Happy Healthy Gut: The Natural Diet Solution to Curing IBS and Other Chronic Digestive Disorders

Rate this book
Finally—a straightforward, friendly guide to conquering digestive disorders through diet! Millions of Americans deal with daily digestive malfunction and attribute it to genetics or faulty wiring. Jennifer Browne reveals the common denominator present in almost all chronic digestive food. What we choose to fuel ourselves with has a direct impact on every part of our bodies, starting with the digestive system. Browne urges us to own responsibility for our own health and make conscientious decisions regarding the cause and effect foods have on our digestive tracts. Written in frank, humorous laymen’s terms and sharing her own personal success story along with others’, Browne passionately educates her readers on why a plant-based diet is the only prescription necessary for a happy, healthy tummy. Discover the direct correlation between digestive trauma and factory farming; the incredible benefits of juicing, fermenting, and sprouting food; the reason why GMOs lead to IBS; and what ingredients really just translate to “sugar” or “lab-created chemical.” Happy Healthy Gut is an easy read that is truly important and highly informative for anyone who has ever dreamed of a perfectly functioning digestive system.

The title misleads that the book is about the human microbiome, but the matter of fact is that it is about why you should become vegetarian. It says nothing new, just combines general information on many topics - acid alkaline balance, chemicals in food, factory farming, GMO etc.

A witty, well informed piece of literature. Provides essential information for anyone looking to improve their overall health, not just digestive health (although that is the focus).

This is less gut health and more why you should be vegan.

I have read any and every nutrition book out there (to include her favorites China Study and The Kind Diet) and this one is no different, in fact it's so elementary I learned nothing new. If you want to hear about eating the colors of the rainbow, go for it, but judging but the title I was expecting more about probiotics and their benefit. She only mentioned fermented vegetables once and nothing about kombucha or water kefir.

As a reader with gluten-intolerance this is old hat to me and her book read more like a memoir or personal narrative than a scientific approach. But if this topic is new to you, go right ahead

Very thought provoking. Jennifer makes an excellent point: nowadays we have become so disconnected with where our food comes from. She has definitely made me begin to question where the food I eat comes from. The major lesson I too from this book: eat locally, and cut out dairy. Worth a read if you prefer health books without all of the scientific jargon.

This is a great beginner for people who are sick of being sick and tired... most of the information I already knew, but Ms. Browne is a lovely writer.

I really enjoyed the tone of this book. Some reviews mention that this book is "elementary" - I enjoyed the introductory feel of it - it is a great place to start learning about plant-based lifestyle changes. I do agree that the title is slightly misleading as the majority of the content is trying to sway you towards a "plant-based diet"; however, where it lacks an extra star from me is that it is definitely opinionated and lacks the awareness of people dealing with gluten sensitives.

The author tries to sell you a vegetarian way to health. All her recommendations are based purely on her own experience and are not suitable for general public. Her knowledge of the subject is quite weak and she has a lot of factual errors in her judgements. She repeats a lot of common stuff from pseudo-science.
I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

Very enlightening, though the syntax throughout makes me wonder if this book was edited. Good ideas and discussions.

I was very impressed with the research that Jennifer Browne did for her book and loved the personal tone she used. It changed my way of thinking and I'm eager to try her ideas for a plant-based way of eating. I'm so glad she included the 3 local farms that will help everyone accomplish this.
