A Soldier’s Christmas is an anthology of three Christmas stories, of three different service men finding love at Christmas. The second half of the book is Naughty Christmas Nights by Tawny Weber. The thing I love about anthologies is being introduced to new authors. I met two new authors in this book, Leslie Kelly and Karen Foley and loved them both. I won this book in a give-a-way package by one of the authors.
I’ll Be Home For Christmas by Leslie Kelly
I loved this story. Rafe Santori and Ellie Blake loved each other once. When Rafe enlisted, Ellie wanted to wait for him. She would have waited for him. But Rafe thought he was doing the right thing by letting her go. Their timing was horrible but it was evident that neither of them ever truly moved on. Seven years later Rafe is home on leave and is trying to make it back to Chicago to spend Christmas with his family. Ellie was away on business and also got stranded in the storm. A chance encounter in the airport brings them together and they embark on a road trip in the middle of a blizzard trying to make it home. The trip gives them the chance to reconnect and become reacquainted. Is it possible that this Christmas might finally be their chance for the love that was denied to them all these years?

They are stranded along with hundreds of other service members, waiting to be out processed. But they find a room in a bed and breakfast with a wonderful family for Christmas. As feelings are uncovered and passions ignited, this turns out to be a very special Christmas.

These two have chemistry like crazy but with both of their lives depending on this decision, can they trust one another? All four of these stories were wonderful. You will get plenty of Christmas happily ever afters. You will find humor, sweetness, plenty of sexiness, and plenty of those warm and fuzzy feelings I love. This is a definite book to add to your Christmas reading.

I'll Be Home For Christmas - Leslie Kelly - 4 / 5 - This was rather uniquely done. Usually when we have a second chance romance there are a lot of hard feelings and someone is held at fault. Here, both Rafe and Ellie feel a lot of regret at the lost time and Rafe certainly regrets his role in all of it, but there isn’t any anger or blame cast about. This is basically Ellie and Rafe realizing that they still love each other, never should have separated and are not about to wait any longer to be together. I didn’t even mind that neither of them had been celibate during the separation, mostly because both of them figured that it was well and truly over between them during that time
Presents Under the Tree - Joanne Rock - 2 /5 - Dylan and Ari were high school sweethearts who went their separate ways after high school and ended up hooking up and getting married the last time he was in town - before he got deployed again. He comes back at Christmas determined to hold onto his wife, but Ari thinks he’s there to fix their little mistake, since she hadn’t heard anything from him while he was away. The couple was likeable and this was well-written, but I just didn’t enjoy how this finished. I really couldn’t buy into any long term happiness given that Ari was as sensitive as she was about 4 months without hearing from Dylan and the only difference between that time and the rest of their lives is going to be a few Skype calls. After her reaction to that, I’m supposed to believe that she’ll be happy with just her work and a husband who shows up for a week twice a year? I might have been able to buy into it a bit more with an epilogue or something… What happens when they have kids? It could also be one thing if it were temporary...military families do that all the time, but they don’t expect the time away to be a permanent fixture of their lives, do they? Dylan made no mention of eventually retiring. So yeah, not so thrilled with their supposed HEA.
If Only In My Dreams - Karen Foley - 3 /5 - Aiden is a SEAL on mission in Africa when he comes down with Dengue fever and is nursed back to health by a woman he’s had a crush on for months, Lily, the army medic. He learns that they’re shipping out to return home together and he knows he’s going to be tempted. Lily is also tempted, but only for a fling - she’s not willing to risk her heart, no matter how gorgeous Aiden is. When they get stuck at a B&B on their way back home and have to spend the holidays together, the sparks fly. This was pretty good, nice, sweet characters, some pretty sensual scenes and not a lot of focus on the angst. They had some mixed messages but no major miscommunications. I think this might have benefited from a bit more emotional punch, but it was a good, sweet story. Also would have liked an epilogue...but that seems to be a theme here.

With anthologies I wish we could rate each story instead of averaging ratings. Leslie Kelly needs a lesson in meteorology; generally storms move west to east, not east to west. I think her hero/heroine would have appreciated this information when they started their trek from New York to Chicago. The best story was Karen Foley's - it's the only reason I gave 3 stars to this book. Kudos, Karen Foley!

1st book - was ok just not a fan of 2nd chance theme because both have had other relationships throughout the years of seperation.
2nd book - was ok but boring
3rd book - I did not like it,I do not like heroines like the the one in this book the push push push away, doesn't want a permanent relationship but wants hero sexually (basically the heroes normal role). Np.

Snowstorms don't typically travel east to west (New York to Chicago) without explanation. They also don't have eyes ala hurricanes.
And one doesn't enter Illinois from Indiana (en route from New York) 90 miles from Chicago.
These are such easy things to fix but are so glaringly obvious that they took this reader right out of the story.

Was this really only 224 pages??? It felt like forever.
All 3 stories are overly drawn out with repetitive inner monologues. The Heroes are vets who for no real reason, were inconsiderate douches to the loves of their lives because they were more concerned with being patriotic heroes than being true to their hearts. Fair enough. The greater calling and all that. But don't expect me to find this at all romantic.
