Second chance romance. H/h were high school sweethearts. All the people around the H then were terrible, a nest of vipers and the h got a really raw deal the first time around with the H. In the 15 yrs separation I hated that the H was a manho what with repeated references to all the women he'd dated and the amazing kinky sexual experiences he's had while the h had one partner - her ex-husband - who was predictably lame in bed, a cheater and a jerk. The double standards are so evident that I don't know whether to be mad or just roll my eyes and laugh. H/h meet again for her job. In the h's place I wouldn't have given the H another chance. The author wrote him as some sort of mind reader who always knew what the h was thinking sometimes before she did. That seemed very unrealistic. But I'm glad the h found some closure even if she didn't get back what she/her family had lost. Another good thing about the book was there was a plot which did turn out interesting. I'm giving 2.5 stars for that , personally I wasn't convinced about the romance.
Ben Grady holds a very special place in my heart, and I really can't shout this books praises high enough. :) I have always loved Leah's attention to the details, no matter how small, and how her stories are more plot driven. Now don't get me wrong because this book packs plenty of steam too, but she crafts the story in such a way that it absorbs you into her world. This book is just exceptionally well written, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The details she weaves into the story about Texas always astound me.
So Ben and Allie were torn apart by lies and deceit, and neither of them ever forgot the other or the feelings they once had. Now she is being forced to come back and confront those old feelings all while trying to save his family ranch from someone claiming to have purchased part of the land. These two pack a punch with the emotions going on here. I loved that Ben isn't afraid to tell Allie how he feels, and the way that he knows just how to handle her after all this time is just so swoon worthy. :) Allie is strong, yet, so very vulnerable too. She is justifiably skittish about allowing any man back into her life given her past mistakes, but especially Ben because he could hurt her worse than he did the first time. I loved the banter between these two, and the honest communication that they had. It just made the characters feel more real to me.
I've always been a sucker for a reunion type love story, and this one definitely exceeded my expectations. Overall, the chemistry and real emotions really make this book great, but also the slight hint of mystery going on with all the secrets and deception. Definitely give this one a read guys, because I don't think you will be disappointed. Now I just have to wait on Jake's book, because I'm dying to see where this story goes! It's a trilogy, so you know it is just building and building! *big grin*
This is a really great kick off to a new series from Leah Braemel. I have followed Leah through the Hauberk series and had loved them so knew that I would like this.
Slow Ride Home is about the reunion of too young lovers who learn that things were not as they seemed when they broke up all those years ago. Allie still couldn’t get over the way she was treated by Ben and his family many years ago but had a job to do and that was prove that there was no other valid/legal claim to the Grady land. She never thought she would go back to Bull’s Hollow but she had to ignore that Ben was a Grady and get on with her job but that was easier said than done as sparks still flew between them.
Proving that Ben and his brother were the only legal owners to the ranch was full of twists and turns which uncovered deceit and lies. We pretty much knew that Ben’s family had lied and destroyed the relationship between them but came across two shocking facts, one I had pretty much guessed but the other was a real shock. I came to the decision that I didn’t like Ben’s family very much especially his grandparents.
This story would appeal to those who like a little bit of mystery and loves quite a bit of steam. I am looking forward to Jake’s story which is due to be released May 2014.
It seems like it’s been a long time since Leah Braemel has released a book and if this book in indicative as to why, then the wait was worth it. Slow Ride Home is the first book in her Grady Legacy series and it left me feeling excited about what was discovered and what is to come.
This book takes place in my home state of Texas which I have found can be a blessing or a curse when it comes to books because sometimes authors tend to lean towards stereotypes or base their research on the overblown Texans they’ve seen portrayed in television and movies, but this author got it right. The Grady men have just enough charm and swagger to be true Texans without being over the top. They use some Texan slang but it’s not over done and most of all they are competent, educated men who just happen to own a huge chunk of land they chose to farm and raise animals on. This was an easy book to love because the plot was well thought out and organized, there was enough intrigue to keep it interesting but not so much that it overshadowed the romance, the reunited lovers story was complicated but fascinating, and the characters were well developed and displayed that true Texan spirit. I loved that no matter what kept coming at them, they just kept getting up and moving forward keeping the faith that it would all work out.
I’m always enthralled when a couple reunites many years after a devastating break up. That hurt and resentment has festered for years and even though they claim they moved on with their lives, would they really still feel just animosity if they were truly over? In the case of Allie O’Keefe and Ben Grady it was pretty damn evident that they pull between them was just as strong as it was 15 years prior when their lives were torn apart by lies and deceit. What I appreciate is that they allowed themselves to sit down and talk about the past and realize that what happened was truly out of their control.
I love the strong woman we see in Allie, but she also shows vulnerability that most people don’t see. She’s been hurt many times over by men she trusted which puts her on the defensive immediately. I found it interesting how easily Ben could read her and realize when he needed to back off and when he needed to make her talk. Ben is one of those guys who is just a genuine person. He’s trying to adjust to running Bull’s Hollow Ranch following the untimely death of his father. His mother is still reeling, his brother is pulling away, and now someone is claiming they’ve bought half the ranch from a relative no one has ever heard before and to top it off the girl he once loved is investigating the claim as she works for the insurance company that guarantees the title of the ranch. While they are working together to try and figure out the claim to the ranch, old feelings and new start to arise leaving them both trying to figure out what happens next.
This is one of those books that I had a hard time putting down; I just couldn’t wait to see how it was all going to play out and how the outcome would affect everyone. The supporting cast in this book was equally important and I honestly can’t wait to see what happens next in this series. I appreciated the complexity of the story; there were some real issues tackled, yet Ben and Allie’s rekindled romance was always front and center. Slow Ride Home is one of those rare romance books that while you get romance and hot and oh so steamy sex, you get a complete story that keeps you hooked from beginning to end and wishing the next book was already out so you can see what happens next. I can’t say enough good things about this book, so I’ll just say head to your favorite bookseller and grab it…you won’t be disappointed!
Allie and Ben were hot and heavy back in high school. Growing up on a ranch, Ben had a lot of responsibilities and he wanted to make Allie his wife one day. Allie's father was one of the ranch hands and when he was fired and kicked off the land for stealing, he blamed Allie for getting him fired. Allie never saw or heard from Ben after she and her father left the ranch. Cut to years later when Allie, now a lawyer and working for a land claims settlement company comes banging on Ben's door when a former farm hand claims that he has gotten the rights to one third of Ben's farm from a long lost heir. This is where the story line got muddled. There was apparently some child born out of wedlock and given up for adoption, but the baby's father was questionable- was it George Grady Sr., the proprietor of the Bulls Hollow Ranch, or was it Ed Grady, George's son who had a child and gave him up. The mystery was who had sold his rights to a part of the ranch using the name George Grady Jr., if there wasn't such a person. The other part of this confused story was Allie and Ben. Both had been hot and heavy over each other when they were teens, but when Allie and her dad left the ranch, there was some confusion over why- Allie was lead to believe that someone had filmed her having a threesome with Ben and his best friend Logan, and therefore George Grady Sr. did not want a whore anywhere near his father, and Allie felt that Grady had trumped up this story that her father had stolen from the ranch, which is why he father was fired. Because of that video, Allie's father never spoke to her again. Ben's understanding was that Allie's father had tried selling off bales of hay to other ranchers, while telling his grandfather he didn't bale as much as he actually had. Confused yet? Me too. The main crux of this story is Allie and Ben fighting their mutual attraction to one another- neither wanting to get hurt by the other again, but going at it like rabbits when the mood struck. I think had this story stuck to one theme- unrequited love, then it might have been a better, faster read. As it was I kept putting it down and picking it back up again. Another problem I had was Allie- her father is no longer in contact with her because of this video she apparently starred in as a teen. My questions are, why didn't he believe that Allie had no idea she was being filmed, and where was her mother? Why were Allie and her father living on someone else's ranch in the first place. The mystery of the missing heir became very predictable toward the middle of the book, and the ending was predictable from page one. The romance was good, not great. The two main characters had a lukewarm chemistry at best. Too many references to their past, but with holes that made me question their original relationship in the first place. I have read a lot of books that have yet to be proof-read, and it's those little mistakes that detract from the flow of the story. There were many errors that had someone bothered to correct before this went to print would have made the story flow better. Authors- please don't leave the grammar and spell check to your computer- it makes you look bad when you publish a book that is full of mistakes and typos. Would I recommend this book to others? Honestly, I'm not sure. If you are into cowboys- then yeah, this might be for you, but for true romance readers- find a better book.

OMG! I can't tell you how much I loved reading Slow Ride Home by author Leah Braemel! I was immediately drawn to Ben and Allie's love story right from the first page when these two past lovers set eyes on each other again after fifteen years. My heart broke as they found out how others they trusted interfered in their young love all those years ago. We got to see small glimpses of that carefree love, but it is their present relationship that has just "wowed" me.
I gotta say I love when a hero of a story is a rancher or a cowboy. There's something so sexy about him using his hands all day, working hard on his land and then coming home to the woman he loves and making love to her *sigh* Ben was this man and I fell more in love with him as I kept reading this book. He can't help but remember how much he loved her as an adventurous girl and now trying to reconcile with the woman she has become. The sparks are still there between Ben and Allie, stronger than ever but they must overcome their trust issues after what's happened to them in the past. I liked that the author didn't make him out to be a jerk and that he spent his time trying to have a relationship with her. He listened to her and encouraged her to be herself, that she did not have to change who she was. He respected her intelligence and career and wanted what was best for her.
While I liked Allie, she had trouble letting go of the past and kept going back and forth. It seemed like for every step forward, she took another step backwards. When Allie was able to let go, I loved how she took care of Ben after a hard day's work or when he had to deal with life altering news. It was those moments together that led to some smokin' hot sex scenes that you could see how much they truly loved each other without speaking the words. I really loved them together and I could not stop reading until I reached the end. I enjoyed the pace of the story, the emotional connection, the sex scenes and just about everything about it. What a fabulous start to a wonderful new series and I'm already looking forward to reading Jake's story next in No Accounting For Cowboys!
This was my first book by Leah Braemel and it won't be my last.
I loved the story here...high school sweethearts who were broken up by secrets and betrayal who end up back together when she comes out to his ranch to help settle a fraudulent claim on the title of his ranch. Allie and Ben were great together. It was obvious from the very beginning that he never stopped loving her, even though it had been 15 years since she left. Allie, on the other hand, was a little more hesitant to get involved Ben again. She didn't want to be hurt again and in the process hurt herself when she attempted to put distance between them. Thankfully, she came to her senses and fixed things.
Even though I enjoyed this, I had a few problems. Allie and Ben drove me crazy with their thoughts of "am I falling in love with him/her again? Does he/she feel the same way?" and they never attempted to talk about it. In fact, when Ben finally told her he loved her, she acted like she was sleeping rather than say anything back or ask if he was sure or how they'd make it work with her living 5 hours away.
Another problem I had was Ben's grandmother and mother. I didn't really like them LOL There were lots of secrets that were revealed in here. I hope we get to see some type of resolution to them in the rest of the series, like
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
***I was provided this book by NetGalley for an honest review***
This is one of those times that I wish I wrote better reviews because there is just no way I'm going to do this book justice. To say that I loved this book would be a GROSS understatement. SRH touched my heart in a way that no other books has done for a while now. The characters are not only relatable but they are real, absolutely and completely real. I admit, I'm a Texan and an Aggie so I might be a little biased but all that aside, this book had it all. It had love, loss, romance, intrigue, a wide array of characters to choose from and plots and sub plots all over it but what it didn't have was confusion. With all the different things going on you never lose sense of the direction of the book. It would have been easy to be overwhelmed with the different intrigues but Leah Braemel is such an amazing author that she was able to keep everything in line. You will find characters that are easy to love as well as those that are easy to hate. There are bits and pieces that allude to what is coming up with the rest of the trilogy that will set your impatience for the next book level on high! There was never a point that I wasn't 100% involved in the story, from beginning to end. There really weren't any slow downs as the book progressed, it was able to keep me active and intrigued the entire time.
I would recommend this book to any and every person that would listen, without hesitation! Can't wait for the Grady Legacy to continue so we can see how everything plays out.
This was not the explicit erotica ride that I was expecting, pardon the pun, given my reading of Ms. Braemel's other works, but for a contemporary romance, it was pretty freaking hot. The insurance claim was VERY, VERY interesting to me, but I think there may have been a little too much legalese and detail paid to that for the average reader. I am an insurance adjuster and know nothing about title insurance, so to me, it was interesting, but I think others may find it very boring. However, the backstory of Allie and Ben and their history dating back to high school was very sweet, very romantic, and VERY hot. As always, this author really does her homework on Texas. If I didn't know where she lived, I would really think she lived here in the Great State because of all the attention to detail on the indigenous plants, the details in Fort Worth and Dallas, Houston's weather, etcetera...basically things that mostly people that are from here would know and pick up on! I wish it had had a little more conflict with Allie and Ben, as the ending was quite predictable, and I would have liked to know exactly where the ranch was (I'm guessing somewhere outside of Abilene), but overall this was a very pleasant read with enough hot sex to keep the erotica fan interested. Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read it and review it.
I am not big on Cowboy romance , its not a genre I've ever got into but something about the synopsis ticked the right boxes, maybe it was Bens apparent sensual skills, or the strong character of Allie, either way i'm glad this book made its way into my life. So we start of meeting Allie, a strong lawyer with a past we don't learn much about. We know something has happened but we dont learn straight away which leaves the reader guessing. We swiftly meet Ben, ill admit it, i wasnt keen - but that soon changed.
What follows develops into a complicated but delicious battle of emotions, past feelings and twists and turns. The whole reason Allie returns is to solve a dispute to do with Bulls Hollow and that is the whole point of the story, i found it captivating and found myself guessing what the heck had actually happened. I found myself in fields with the characters, drinking water whilst horseback riding. I loved the Grady men, well the living ones. However, what i loved was Bens nature, how he wasnt afraid to go both barrels head first into love. Allie, is more cautious and realistic and the two fit so perfectly together. This was a nice intro to Cowboy romance and well, im after more now!
Secrets, scandal and betrayal…oh my! I really enjoyed this book, and I’m very much looking forward to more books in this series. This is the story of Ben and Allie, high school sweethearts who were torn apart by the betrayals of those closest to them. When a claim is made against part of Ben’s ranch and Allie is the title insurance investigator sent to get to the bottom of the situation all the old chemistry is back but with it so are the old hurts. Will these two be able to sort out the past in order to save the ranch in the present and will who they are now be able to fall in love again or are the hurts in their past too much to overcome? Add in a secret heir, friends and family with divided loyalties and a former employee with a vendetta and you get a really great story that will keep you engrossed to the very end.
This book was very well written. The story flows beautifully and is easy to follow. The sex is well written and scorching hot. This was the first book by Leah Braemel that I have read but I’m sure it won’t be my last. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a hot romance with a great storyline. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first book from Leah Braemel. I received a review copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
I enjoyed this book enough that I want to read the next book in the series. I really loved Ben and Allie both as individuals and as a couple. I did have a problem with Allie giving Ben mixed signals over and over when it was clear she still loved him. I understood because of their past her being somewhat hesitant, but really wanted her to let go of her issues a bit sooner.
I did like how Allie stepped in to help Ben and his family deal with the legal situation with his family's ranch. She went above and beyond her job duties to find the truth and was there for Ben every step of the way. When the truth came out about what had really happened when they were kids, I love that Ben was there for her completely, and really wasn't surprised in the least as to who was a part of the betrayal that kept them apart for so many years.
I look forward to reading the rest of the books in The Grady Legacy series and plan on looking into Ms. Braemel's back list for more books.
Allie even after all these years that girl is still sweet on Ben, "holy crap Butch's cooking wasn't the only thing she wanted to sink her teeth into - Ben's a**, so wonderfully outlined by his chaps, just begged to be bitten." He's so bossy as well, "hold this" was the only warning she got before he hoisted her into the truck bed." He's considerate, "I don't want you to think all I want from you is a quickie up against a tree or in the back of my truck or...that I'm only interested in you for sex." And he's real open about his feelings, "there's plenty of time, but you make me shoot off my load now and the fun'd done for a while." I loved Ben and I loved this story there was also a mystery to be solved so we not only got romance but a mystery.

E: I was flipping through the collections in my ereader a few weeks ago and saw Leah Braemel’s name. Looking inside there was a book that I remembered reading, enjoying and wishing she had written more in that particular setting. I also found myself thinking for the severalth time that I really wanted to read more of her writing in general. In happy coincidence shortly afterwards I became aware that she had a new story coming out that was a contemporary western. With my recent musings in mind, I decided to go ahead and request it. While I didn’t get what I expected based on the single title I had read before, I did get an emotionally complex, good second chance at love story with some interesting twists.
MinnChica: I’ve read and really enjoyed Braemel’s books in the past, plus any chance I get to read about kinky cowboys is a plus! I always enjoy second chance love stories, and although I thought that Ben and Allie were quick to jump back into a sexual relationship, I loved the way their second chance played out. They both had some emotional hits to take, and although Ben’s grandfather did a good job of screwing them both up, they also came out stronger than ever.
E: Ben’s grandfather was a serious piece of work. In fact several of the responsible adults during the time of Ben and Allie’s first romance were serious pieces of work. It seemed as if they were willing to do and say anything to ruin any chance at happiness for Ben and Allie and for several years it worked. Like MinnChica I thought given the way their relationship ended, it would have taken a bit longer for them to get back together physically but I was glad to see their emotional trust took longer to develop. I really enjoyed the convoluted trail Allie had to follow as she tried to determine the status of the ranch land and who controlled what. Braemel was able to keep me guessing on the exact details for most of the story which added to my enjoyment.
MinnChica: Yes, I thought the absolute strongest aspect of this book was (in addition to the sex scene, obviously :) ) the little mystery surrounding the ranch lands and family secrets. Watching Allie help to unravel all the secrets that had kept Ben from truly knowing his family was both wonderful and fun. I like the fact that Allie got to be the one to break all the bad news to Ben, because I think it really helped them work on their emotional trust, to gain back some understanding and respect for the people they had grown up into. I really liked Ben, but after he and his brother Jake made a decision at the end, I found myself loving the guy even more. Ben came across as the kind of stand up, loving and attentive hero that every woman loves!
E: Oh yes, Allie having to break the news made her involvement in their life and Ben’s reactions to her all the more intense. I also loved how her boss never let Allie get away with avoiding her situation. I thought she had a hidden soft spot but also knew that Allie’s insider information would help clear up the tangle story quicker. Initially I had some issues with Jake both in how he treated Allie, understandable as the story developed, but also towards Ben and the ranch. Seeing Ben take Jake’s side and start treating him as a co-owner not just a quasi-hand really meant that Ben was growing emotionally. The decision that Ben and Jake made really cemented their status as hero material. I have to say by the end of the story I was really cheering for Jake and I hope that he gets his story is next **not so subtle hint**.
MinnChica: The whole relationship between Ben and Jake was wonderful. With Ben treating Jake like a hired hand, and Jake avoiding Ben because of family secrets, their whole time together was wonderful! I have to admit, one area I was disappointed in this book was with Ben’s best friend Logan. It was obvious from the get-go that Logan did not have it as easy as Ben did growing up. Despite the fact that they were best friends, being a punching bag for his dad couldn’t have been fun. And yeah, as a kid he made a huge mistake, and kept it a secret. But the way that Ben completely turned his back on his best friend felt a little too rash of a decision for me. Especially since Ben seemed unwilling to see anything from Logan’s point of view. While I didn’t really like Logan’s character to begin with (he came across as a self-centered asshat), but at the end of the day I also felt that Ben was a little quick to jump on the idea that Logan did anything maliciously. I think he was a kid stuck between a rock and a hard place, and made the best of an already shitty situation.
E: See on the other hand I didn’t have any serious issues with Logan to begin with but as the story progressed my doubts and questions about him grew. I understood that at the time he was caught between a rock and a hard place but he had a very long time to make amends. I got the feeling that Ben was a better friend than Logan ever was regardless of his mistake. I was glad to see what Ben decided to do given Logan’s actions even though it meant the end of a long-time friendship. I felt that if the friendship had continued Ben’s relationship with Allie never would have come to fruition. I enjoyed watching the secrets unravel as much pain as they caused at the time because of how Ben, Jake, and Allie were able to work through their anguish and build on the connection they used to have.
I enjoyed Slow Ride Home and I am glad I reminded myself that I need to read more of her writing. The romantic and familial relationships with their ups and downs provided satisfying reading. The addition of the complex web of lies, omissions, and half-truths added to my enjoyment as I tried to solve the puzzle. I look forward to seeing this series continue and also exploring Braemel’s backlist. I give Slow Ride Home a B
MinnChica: All in all I really enjoyed Braemel’s Slow Ride Home. I thought the secrets that were revealed about the Grady family were wonderful as they slowly came out. I thought the relationship between Ben and Allie, while quick to develop, was wonder, super sweet, and incredibly sexy. I hope that Braemel continues to write more within this world, especially about Jake. I give Slow Ride Home a B-

I give Slow Ride Home a B-
This is my first book by Leah Braemel and is the first book in her new series about the Grady brothers, one of which is quite a surprise for everyone, reader as well as characters, near the end of this story. I like our hero Ben a lot. I always fall hard for a sexy cowboy. Allie is his weak spot, even after all the years she’s been gone and then suddenly reappears in his life. Despite all the lies and deceit they discover in their past and the fact he and his brother Jake could lose the ranch, Ben is very happy to have Allie back at Bull’s Hollow. Now he just has to convince her it’s the right thing for them both.
Having just discovered someone has sold a portion of their ranch, Ben contacts the insurance company to take care of the problem. Imagine his surprise when it’s Allie O’Keefe who shows up on his doorstep to investigate the claim. They have a history, one they thought would be their future, full of love and everything that goes along with it. But Allie’s father is accused of stealing and Ben’s dad fires him on the spot, forcing him and Allie to leave town. That was fifteen years ago and not one word has Ben heard from her in all that time. That doesn’t keep his feelings and reaction to her at bay, though. The woman still gets to him, no matter what she’s doing.
But Allie is all over the place about being back at Bull’s Hollow. Her life had been perfect at one time on this ranch, but then everything came crashing down around her once her father was fired. It seemed everyone blamed her for the fallout, her father and even Ben. Because she never heard from him once they left town. But she’s a different woman now, confident in her job, so there’s no reason at all she can’t do what the company and the client need of her and then be on her way. This time on her terms.
Of course, what both Ben and Allie can’t get away from is those feelings – everything from anger to lust to betrayal and even to love – when they’re near each other now. This time, however, they talk to each other. At least to a point. There’s still residual anger and denial they can’t get past until much later, but in the meantime they discover how they were each betrayed by those they loved, and they begin to work together to figure out what the hell happened fifteen years ago to tear their world apart.
I enjoyed their investigation, which twists and turns at every bend. Every chance Ben and Allie come together, they can’t keep their hands off each other, no matter how stern they try to be with themselves. Allie is the one who has more doubts about continuing where they left off. She can’t seem to make herself believe in Ben, and that’s my problem with her. I realize she has a lot to get over with everything she went through before, but there’s no way Ben could be any more supportive or loving than he is. Allie is in bed with him one moment and ready to walk away the next. This is okay the first few times, but it goes on much too long for my tastes. Even when her beliefs are shown to be untrue, she still balks. Eventually, though, Allie does realize what she has with Ben, and as her investigation comes to end, decisions need to be made.
The story does get a tad confusing here and there with all the family relations and goings-on, past and present. That bogs it down some once in a while, trying to keep the players straight. But you don’t get totally lost, things become more clear as you go along. The surprise near the end is quite enjoyable, and I like that Ben knows he has to do the right thing from the beginning. I do look forward to future books. There’s two more intriguing Grady brothers to be had, so I’m curious what Ms. Braemel will do with them.
FTC: Although this author has featured on the blog several times, I have no real relationship with her. This review was requested by the publicist for a fair and honest review.
This was a very sweet book that kept me entertained but never really hooked me in. I liked both of the characters but I hated pretty much every other person in the book; they were horrible individuals. Although the trope was second chance love, I felt that there wasn’t enough emotional focus on that particular plot. Things weren’t resolved, they were brushed under the carpet and then they picked up where they left off. It didn’t fit with the amount of hurt both professed to have at the start of the tale. I really enjoyed the world that Ms Braemel created (cowboys?? Come on, you know me :D) and there is every chance that I will pick up the next one.
The romance itself was very cute. They were very good together and I liked the way that they dealt with all the issues with the land. I believed in them as a couple but I did get more than a little bit annoyed with the does he/doesn’t he love me nonsense; they kept stating that this was a more adult relationship than they had before but they never could seem to talk to each other about their feelings. I felt that more emotional angst was spent on this aspect than the hurt and betrayal of the relationship before.
As I stated earlier, I really did dislike the majority of the other players in this tale. The Grandmother, both of their Fathers and his Mother?? All terrible people. The person claiming that he had part of the land? Horrible person. Ms Braemel did a very good job because I’m pretty sure that I was supposed to hate them immensely…. I liked only the brother and the romantic couple. It helped me engage with the story more, really routing for the HEA. I wanted to know what the secret was and, to be honest, I was actually quite surprised with the twists that came out. It was fun and these are the bits that will keep me reading this series.
Overall, if you like sweet cowboys with a bit of heat, this is one that could be for you. I liked the world building that Ms Braemel did and so will continue with this story.

She was the one for him. He wanted to marry her, but when her father committed a crime on the ranch and was fired from Bull Hollow she left for good. Years later the ranch is on the line and Ben Grady needs serious help. When Allie O'Keefe appears as a representative of the company attempting to help Ben with the claim that part of his precious ranch now belongs to outsiders, she tries to be all business, but Ben rattles her calm like no other. The self proclaimed city-girl is now out of sorts back in heartland Texas even though she's had another life. She's been married and divorced and changed herself from an innocent country girl into a force to be reckoned with.
Ben Grady never thought he would be taking over Bull Run so soon, but once he takes the reins, it's full speed ahead, and if anyone wants to take his family's legacy away, they're going to have to go through him. He never realized how much of a soft spot he still had for Allie until she came walking back into his life. This time with stilettos instead of cowboy boots, Allie is all woman and once Ben ignites that match, the flame between these two burns to a maximum.
So happy with Slow Ride Home by Leah Braemel. Allie was so resistant of her feelings for Ben and to see the progression from her consistent mistrust and loathing to the re-sparking of her love for Ben was such a journey. Ben is all man and very sure about what he wants. An alpha with a capital A and oh so steamy. He also is a man with a conscience and a man with feeling, perfection wrapped up into a not so small package. The growth that this reunited pair have shown through their years of separation add a whole new level to this story.Leah Braemel's intro into the Grady Legacy brings us strong and interesting characters that I have to admit I want to know much more about in the coming books. This was actually the first book I have read by the author and I have to say that I loved it. Leah's attention to detail and her emotion filled tale give this a 4 and a half moon rating from me. Now bring on the Grady bunch!
This is actually not a new book (published Nov. 2013). It’s been on my TBR list for a long time. I know shame on me, right? I really am sorry I couldn’t make time for this one sooner. I wished I had. I absolutely loved it.
I have been a fan of Leah Braemel since 2010 when I took a chance on Personal Protection, her first book in the Hauberk Protection Series. I fell in love with the way she portrayed her heroes and heroines. Ms. Braemel’s heroes are men of honor and her cowboys are some of the sexiest this side of the Mississippi.
Slow Ride Home is a story of betrayal, loss, first love, soulmates, and second chances. It centers on two main characters, former high school sweethearts Ben Grady and Allie Daniels O’Keefe. Ben Grady, who along with his brother Jake, own Bull’s Hollow Ranch, which has been in the Grady family for generations. Allie Daniels O’Keefe, Ben’s ex-girlfriend, lawyer, and claims investigator for Stars and Stripes Title. The two were ripped away from each other at eighteen by those they were supposed to be able to trust, Ben’s grandfather and Allie’s father. Even though they both moved on with their lives, they never got over each other or the anger and hurt from all those years ago.
They are given a second chance at love when someone tries to steal the ranch and Allie is sent in to investigate the legitimacy of the title claim. In order to save the ranch and the Grady legacy, she and Ben have to find a way to come to terms with years of hurt, anger, and resentment. Soon they learn the truth of their family’s betrayal and that the same lies and betrayal that tore them apart brought them back together. Soon they realize the love they felt for each other is still there. When they give in to the attraction, Ben and Allie’s chemistry is explosive.
This book touches on every emotion and sex is hot, hot, hot. This is a must read and I can’t wait to delve into book 2, No Accounting for Cowboys.
This is the first book in a new contemporary series with characters with a painful past. Ben and Allie were inseparable as teens. Allie's dad worked on Ben's family ranch and his family didn't approve of Allie. Several things happened back then that she thought forever would set them apart. Her dad got fired for stealing from the ranch and someone made a sex tape of Ben and his best friend Logan and her together. She left town with her heart and pride broken. Now years later she's back and she's the one person who can help Ben sort out his legal problems. As a lawyer and claims investigator for his insurance company she's has to find out who is trying to steal a part of his ranch by claiming to be a long lost Grady heir. Allie has to prove there is no heir and someone is committing fraud or Ben might lose the ranch. In the midst of all that Ben and Allie get closer again and secrets come out. There are several things going on in this story as it lays the ground work for the series and brings you the second chance love story of Ben and Allie. There's a few bad guys in the mix and as the secrets start to unravel Allie and Ben get closer. I liked how this story played out. Ben and Allie had a hard and painful break up but once Ben found out everything that happened to Allie during that time he sets out to win her back. He never gives up and knows he has to do it slowly to gain her trust again. A hot mix of sizzling and sweet!! Great beginning to the series. I can't wait to see what happens next!
Ben Grady is half owner of the Bull's Hollow ranch. He is a partner with his brother Jake. His first love was Allie Daniels. They dated in high school until Allie's father was found out as a thief and they left town. Ben has never gotten over Allie. Turns out there was a video made of Ben, Allie and Ben's best friend, Logan when they had a threesome. This video led to Allie losing her scholarship to Texas A&M.
Fast forward fifteen years and Allie is a lawyer who handles property title disputes. Bull's Hollow had part of it's shares held for a unknown heir. Ben and his family think the whole claim is ridiculous and their title insurance company sends in Allie to investigate. Ben and Allie's first meeting after fifteen years is strained to say the least. I won't give anymore plot away but that's the synopsis on how this story starts.
I am a sucker for western romances. I'm also a sucker for second chance love stories. I enjoyed both of the tropes here. What I didn't enjoy was the idea that back in high school a girl engaged in a threesome. I'm not a prude but it's hard for me to buy into it. The suspense of finding out if there was truly another heir was entertaining but I kind of thought my heroine was a slut. This tainted the book for me. I will admit that even though there was copious amounts of descriptive sex in this book that were hot, it still left me a little cold. I don't know if I'll read any more in this series yet.
I'm a sucker for second chances. I had just finished reading a really heavy romance/suspense and needed something lighter. Slow Ride Home, while lighter, isn't a total fluff story. There's some family dynamics that will blow you away. The lengths to which some people will go to keep the family name and legacy untarnished is unbelievable. This book is an easy read and the intrigue that is there is easily resolved with not a lot of drama. It is a pretty typical second chance story.
Allie and Ben were high school sweethearts getting ready to go off to college together when they are ripped apart from one another. Each is told a different story and each feels betrayed by the other. Fast forward 15 years, Allie is a lawyer for the title company that holds the title insurance company on the ranch that Ben has inherited after his father tragically died. There has been a claim made against the ranch and Allie has to get to the bottom of it. During the investigation they'll find out the truth of what happened 15 years ago, who was actually behind it all, and how they were manipulated. Can they let the betrayals go and build a future? The future they should've had? Or a better one?
A new series that will follow the Grady brothers (3) who have had a somewhat difficult life, but have stuck together through it all. This first book follows Ben who is fighting to save the ranch from some locals who claim another son exists and that they own part of the ranch. The bank has sent out a claims officer, who just happens to be Allie, Ben's first love who was kicked off the ranch by Ben's grandfather after her father was found guilty of theft.
I liked the world that Braemel created on the ranch and am really intrigued to see what happens with the other brothers, especially Jake who seems to have something going on that he won't share with anyone. The Grady's past is pretty riddled with a "keep a lid on it" family who don't want their dirty laundry aired out and would rather push it under the rug. By the end of this book, I wasn't really sure where anyone stood except Ben and Allie.
I loved this book. Allie is a lawyer and she works for a title insurance agency in Houston. She has to go home to the ranch she and her father were thrown off of 15 years ago and help the owners save it. Someone has sold half of the ranch but the owners Ben and Jake Grady said they did not sell any of it. Allie has to figure out what is going on and save the ranch.
She still has feelings for Ben who she loved when she was 18. They had plans to go to Texas A&M together that fall. But she lost her scholarship when they lost their home on the ranch. Ben emailed and wrote letters to Allie and never got an answer back. Why? He never forgot her.
Ben tries to work with Allie to find this supposed son of his grandfather's who sold the land to a former employee who was caught stealing. But he stills wants her and pursues her, not that it takes much because she wants him too.
Will they save the ranch and live happily ever after?
Slow Ride Home is the first installment in The Grady Legacy by Leah Breamel. This series opener has it all. From the hint of mystery to the almost erotic romance, this series is one to look out for.
I loved the idea of a second chance relationship, especially if one of the parties are pissed. So this romance was right up my alley. And who doesn’t love a cowboy? The sex scenes are borderline erotic and I was quickly turning pages as I fanned myself.
I especially loved that the side characters were well developed and interesting. I can’t wait to see who gets their HEA next.
This excellent start to The Grady Legacy has hooked me and is a great addition to any “cowboy romance” lovers device.
Ben and his brother just lost their father and one of their barnes burned down. The insurance company send in a woman to investigate and it is not other then Ben’s ex Allie. She did not want to come out in the first place as she knew it would not go too well. Allie and Ben slowly come to terms with what happened between them and start to search of who would want to burn the barn and they might have someone else that is also owner of the ranch. The characters of Allie and Ben worked well with each other. With the suspense thrown in you want to see where the whole situation goes between the two and if someone really did set the fire. The setting is good and the author does a great job bring out things to catch your interest. I would highly recommended this book to read. Thank you Netgalley for the free book to read for an honest reivew.
It has been awhile since I have read a cowboy romance as I don't tend to read them much anymore, but I did enjoy this contemporary romance. It took me awhile to get into the story as I didn't understand all the insurance claims and it made the story a bit complex, but once I understood what was going on with all the characters, I was totally invested. I really like that there are going to be two more books about the Grady men because I now have real feelings for these characters. Good story, good characters and a fun story.
**Thanks to Netgalley and Carina Press for giving me an ARC of this book for an honest review**
Slow Ride Home was outstanding! I loved it! This is a second chance romance story sucked me in right from the start! I loved the characters, the authors writing style (this was a first time read for me) and plot. Ben and Allie were high school sweethearts that are thrown back together several years later. Its a rough road back and they have a lot of things to work through but of course, they do get their HEA. :) This is first in a new trilogy and its the perfect way to kick off a series! *ARC recieved from NetGalley
