Copper to Red

Rate this book
This is an 'easy-read' historical romance - ideal for lazing around a pool on holiday.

At twenty eight, Tom Dillwyn is content with life. A wonderful family, an enjoyable job at the market, and plenty of attention from the opposite sex. The last thing Tom is looking for is change.
Licking her wounds after a divorce from her childhood sweetheart, Janet Dawkins (Willow) is back working at her parents’ pub, The Red Lion. Being a divorcée makes Willow determined to keep her heart locked away from any further hurt.
When they un-expectantly find themselves attracted to each other, both are determined not to act on it - each for their own reasons; Tom, because he wants nothing more than a fling, and Willow, because she knows she could never trust her heart to someone with a reputation like Toms.
Fate, however, has different ideas as they are forced together, and apart, by unforeseen circumstances. Will they be able to override these forces or will they both find happiness elsewhere?

Copper to Red is the second book in Ceri Bladen’s Dyllwin Stories. The focus of this story is the relationship between the eldest Dyllwin son, Tom, and Janet Dawkins, whose height and lithesome figure earned her the nickname Willow while she was in school. Now Willow is a twenty-six-year old woman recovering from a failed marriage. She has returned to her hometown to start over and is working at her parent’s pub. At first, she and Tom Dyllwin share a mild flirtation until they both begin to realize there is a strong attraction between them. When circumstances force them to spend a night together, their simmering passions erupt. Tom has the reputation as a womanizer, a love em and leave em guy who is too handsome for his own good, and Willow is afraid she is just another notch on his belt. Upset that she let herself be carried away so easily, she spurns Tom, who is surprised to discover he has feelings for her.

I enjoyed reading Copper to Red. I liked the characters and the Dyllwin family. It’s an easy read to cozy up with on a cold winter’s night. I look forward to the next installment of the Dyllwin Stories.

Adorable story, set in the 60's in a small town in Wales where everybody knows everybody and everyone loves a scandal.

The story follows Tom, a single notorious playboy, and Willow, a divorcee with a broken heart after her husband left her for another woman. She runs a bar with her parents and he's one of their regulars. It doesn't take them long to realise they have feelings for each other, but he has never wanted to settle down, and she doesn't know if she can trust a man again- especially one with a reputation.

I really enjoyed the story, I was rooting for Tom and willow to get together and kept getting as frustrated as them when it just wasn't working!
Having said that, I was a little disappointed that there was all that build up and then you never found out how they ended up together? We were never shown the conversation, the moment they choose each other. I felt a little ripped off. But it was still an entertaining, charming tale.

This was definitely an enjoyable read.

Tom and Willow are both messes. Tom is struggling with his earned playboy reputation and the kinds of girls that attracts. When an old classmate, Willow, returns home after a heartbreaking divorce, he begins to see something different for himself. Willow is no longer one of the boys but his reputation precedes him when, after a night of passion, Willow decides he could never be what she needs.

They can't stay apart for long but, just as things are starting to look up for the pair, Tom's past catches up with them. Will they ever be able to find happiness together?

As much as I wanted to wring her neck at times, I ended up really liking Willow. I wish both characters had been fleshed out more though. Tom was cute. I loved how he was determined to do the right thing even after he was lied to. I was rooting for them the entire time. If you're looking for a charming romance to sink your teeth into, this is one I'd recommend.

I am the author of 'Copper to Red'.

After writing 'Copper', I wanted to write more about Ria's brother, Tom.

I hope during the first book that I managed to capture Tom's love for his family and the ladies! Even though some of his behaviour mould Ria in a somewhat negative way, I tried to make sure that he still essentially had his family in his heart.

Fast forward eight years and even though Tom is still enjoying single life, seeds are planted through various unexpected situations, finally making him realise what he wants - a family of his own...

The Red Lion, a pub where locals meet and relax and where much of this story occurs. Willow (not her real name but an indication of her physique) has returned home to help her parents run the pub after her husband left her for another woman.

Along with his friends and family, Tom’s a regular patron at the Red Lion, a handsome, cruisy kinda guy who enjoys women and he’s not looking for anything serious particularly after just coming out of a two year relationship with Sarah. Gradually he becomes aware of Willow as she serves him his beer with a smile but beneath the smile there’s heartbreak and Willow is only too aware of Tom’s reputation with the ladies, reason enough to look the other way. Wouldn’t you think?

I liked Willow although at times she came across as a bit too naive particularly where her ex was concerned. I mean really? Who would even think about going back down that track?

Tom was an easy going guy who sailed through his adult life without a real care for anyone but himself then out of the blue he offered to sacrifice himself at the altar. Why? I think the gesture was meant to convey how nice the guy really was but it came across as an extraordinarily dumb thing to do and out of character.

I usually prefer romances with lots of action and intrigue, this novella is tame in comparison. When the only other review on this novella to date used the heading ‘Red Hot’ I thought….well you must know what I thought. I have no aversion to sexual tension and well written sex scenes even those explicit ones but I wouldn’t call a novella with one quick sex scene, hot, however it might appeal to readers who want their romance novels with a bit of drama and clean.

Enjoyed the change.
