Maybe a bit wordy, but a fun book about picture day in elementary school. The theme is fun and the art lends lots of silly details for young readers to discover. Class pets, silly vocabulary, happy endings . . . Who could want more?
Not only does Class 202 not have a teacher, but they lost their class pet, Elvis, right before they were supposed to get their picture taken. This chaotic bunch of kids gets help from the school photographer, Mr. Click, to help one especially sad student to smile. He teaches them English and Math while doing so. At the end the class has gained 3 things, a good class picture, Elvis the Guinna Pig, and a new teacher.
I absolutely love this book! It is so cute! I didn't even notice that Elvis was hiding on every page until I was reading the reviews to this book. It's a fun book, and I feel like kids would be interested in it
I would use this book solely on picture day. It's a good way to get kids involved in their class pictures and interested. Maybe it would help them calm down before we took it.
When the artist for your picture book has done covers for The New Yorker, and this very artist -- Ms. Denis Roche -- has also written the text, you know you're in for a treat.
Trying to get one of the students, Olivia, to smile for this class picture... turns out to be surprisingly difficult, then quite eventful.
FIVE STARS. And how unlikely is it that a wish I had while reading... turned out to become this book's surprise happy ending! Woweeeee, say "Cheese."
Children enjoy stories about less ordinary things that happen in the classroom (In my youth, I recall Miss Nelson is Missing. Remember that?). This book follows the same principle. The plot is that the class refuses to take a picture without its pet hamster, which has somehow escaped and gotten lost. The story (and its illustrations) turns into a scavenger hunt for the characters involved and for its readers. The children go to wild and crazy extremes in the vain of locating the missing pet, which in the end does have a place in the class picture.
Funny, interactive, and a great one to read aloud. Recommended for grades K-2.
This book is a great book for kids from 2-7 it is about a class that loses it's class pet Guienie pig (Elvis) they didnt want to get there class picture because one girl wouldnt smile so the class made up words to try to make her smile she finally did when the sat down Elvis appeared everyone smiled whith glee. It is a wonderful book
I read this story to my classroom on class picture day every year. It is a silly, yet cute story about a class that does not have a teacher. In addition, Olivia is sad and the class' guinea pig ran away. Will the class overcome these obstacles and take the best class picture?
Our favorite part of this book was looking for Elvis on each page. He hides in the funniest places. The story is amusing and it was good to see an example of children learning practical lessons in English and Math, without boring lectures and rote memorization.
An unruly class is without a permanent teacher and to top it off, the classroom pet hamster turns up missing on picture day. But Mr. Click, the photographer, helps out in many unexpected ways.
