An enticing post-apocalyptic tale, created by a supposed master of French Sci-Fi, and re-envisioned by contemporary BD artists. The story follows 'L'enfant noir' (the black boy) and a tribe of post-apocalyptic, most likely devolved Neanderthal-like humans. The boy holds a tenuous link to the tribe, as they all seem to hate him and ostracise him, yet he spends a good deal of this book searching for them. There are interesting concepts in L'enfant, such as eating brains to gain others' knowledge (something practiced by real cannibals), and bio-engineered, radioactive strider octo-elephants...also, everyone talks in the 3rd person.
It's a neat story and a neat book, even with some obvious stretches of the imagination which pull a little too tight on the band-aid of believability (terrible metaphor, I'm tired), and I look forward to reading more...
Also, it's fairly easy French, given these post-humans aren't prone to too many big words, other than nauséabonde (foul).
