Widow Danielle Cooper doesn't know how she'll support her two young sons and a 400-acre farm. Her prodigal brother-in-law offers an unusual solution. He'll pay off her debt in exchange for the deed. She agrees to a temporary marriage to transfer the farm, but can she trust a man with too many secrets?

Thrown off the farm by his father, Hale vows to reclaim the land where he was raised. Helping Danielle provides a perfect way to redeem himself, but his feelings complicate matters. This was such a pleasant story that I read it in one sitting and I didn't regret doing it.

My most favorite part-

"Lord, thank you for bringing Uncle Hale to help us. And I pray Cocoa will let us pet her tonight. Amen."

"You'll have to ask permission to pet Cocoa, she's a working dog."

The five year old scrunched his nose. "You mean she gets paid to be a dog?"


I loved Hale even though he was deaf and the fact that he was still willing to do anything for his dead brother's family even though they shunned him six years ago just kinda sealed the deal.

I'm gonna look out for more of Lynn Kellan in the future.

When Danielle Cooper’s husband Mark dies due to an accident on the farm, she is left struggling to feed her five year old twin boys and make ends meet. This Novella by Lynn Kellan is short and sweet but leaves a lasting impression! I was sucked into this story from the moment I picked it up! Danielle and Hale are both trying to put their lives back in order. Together they have to save the farm while navigating through their feelings of guilt, regret, anger, love and hope. It’s an endearing story that packs a lot of punch for only being 120 pages!

This is a fast-moving romance about Danielle, a widowed professor with two sons, who is left with a run-down farm and huge debts. Facts about her late husband come out gradually when she turns to Hale, her brother-in-law for help with the farm. He is more than willing to help her out because he secretly loved her all along so jumps at the chance to prove himself to her.

I got into this book quickly and liked both the main characters so couldn't help but root for them to fall in love with each other. The story line was unique and kept my interest. I looked forward to seeing what would happen next! It was over before I knew it but I liked that it didn't drag along at all. I recommend it if you are looking for a light romance!

Danielle is a widow with young twin boys struggling to manage under a mountain of debt and a failing farm. As we read we discover she'd struggled through an unhappy marriage to a drunk, in desperation she contacts her husbands brother and her old friend who'd been thrown off the farm six years earlier. He offers her a deal, she marries him and he clears the debt, what follows is a lovely story of old and new love. This is a lovely sweet feel good book.

The story of Hale & Dani has to be one of my now new favorites. I fell in love with them as well as her boys. This was a great story filled with 2 people falling in love but there is just something about how it is written that makes this so much better. I did not want to put this book down until I finished it. A sad story that has a happy ending I like that. Wish it could have been longer with more of what happens the ending of the story left me wanting more. Read this one if you get a chance it is worth it. But I will from now on say Anything you ask. WOW that got me right in the heart.

I enjoyed this very much. This is a fast read and a sweet one. Something that makes this story such a standout is the author's choice not to use Hale's deafness to advance the plot. His genetic reason for deafness is a plot point, but only a very minor one. Too often authors use disabilities as a prop, and Ms Kellan was wise enough not to do that in any way.

Got 75% in and w/ the married couple it goes into a sex scene. Also some language, and some heavy innuendos, and mild talk of sex.

I read this book a few years ago and gushed over it, (think total fan girl). I did everything from recommending it on Facebook and Twitter to strangers in a waiting room. My family understands my devotion to a wonderfully written book. Strangers? Not so much.

The story happens only on a farm with a quick side trip to town. It should be boring. It's not. It's sublime. It's sweet and romantic without the fear of cavities. It's still my favorite book of this decade.

The two characters are broken but resilent. They are willing to bend and accept both life and each other. Circumstances beyond their control has brought them to this point and sink or swim, they need each other. It's both heartbreaking and life affirming.

The hook into me was the deafness of the H. I have some hearing loss and have deaf family and some blind ones. I wanted to do a realism check on this author. She passes with flying colors. All the coping strategies and little touches are so perfectly true to life. Add in the dog and you have a fan for life.

I reread this book last night and found another of her works which I promptly bought. I love her writing and her storytelling flows without coercion. I follow her and highly recommend that you do too.

Danielle becomes a quick single mother of two small boys when her once loving turned abusive husband falls from the roof of the barn and dies on his way to the hospital by heart attack. Trying to run the 400 acre farm left to her which has been left in disarray by her husband and trying to keep down a job as a teacher, as well as raise two boys Danielle finds herself in a financial mess.

Once bound from stepping foot on the farm enters Hale, the outsider of the family, brother to Danielle's husband. Hale was sought to be the cause of the fire that ruined his fathers farm, yet little does anyone know the real truth about just who set that fire. Stained with secrets Hale, hopelessly in love with Danielle, is afraid to commit because he fears losing her when she is the only person who has seen and accepted him for him.

Hale proposes a marriage of convience so Danielle can be free from the debt in which is brother procurred and so he can take over the farm in six months time as he always hoped to do. Danielle accepts but never truly realizes until she sees the way Hale interacts with her and her children just how much she loves him and has since the beginning. This matter of marriage turns from convience to blossoming love and ends with a heartfelt tug.

The author packs a lot into this short novel. At the outset of the story, Danielle has texted her deceased husband’s brother to ask for help. She has inherited the broken-down family farm and can’t manage it by herself. When Hale arrives, we get some backstory about the summer they spent together (the summer Hale fell in love with Danielle) and the big fire that resulted in Hale being rejected by his family and Danielle marrying his brother.

Then comes Hale’s proposition, which Danielle has no choice but to accept. Given her history, she has a long way to go to trust Hale, and the unfolding story events show what kind of man Hale is (very different from her husband).

Guilt is an overarching theme in these characters’ lives, and since I often write characters wrestling with feelings of guilt, this was compelling to me. I liked the exploration of family dynamics (not a light and sunny topic), and I liked the slow build-up of attraction and sensuality (I’m not a huge fan of instantaneous attraction).

There is a twist at the end that really made this story spark (which I won’t give away here). And frankly, I was relieved that the author chose to make this a shorter novel rather than stretch out the guilt, lies and misunderstandings. It was the perfect length.

Anything You Ask was a wonderful book about a couple who had to be taken from each other then brought back together because of hard situations.

Now Hale wants to reclaim the land he was raised on and get the girl he left behind back. He never stopped loving her, and wants her back, but he also wants his land back as well. So he decides he's going to do everything he can to prove to her she can trust him, and maybe learn to care for him as well.

Dani doesn't know if she should trust Hale or not. She was married to his brother before his death, and things didn't turn out so great. She loved who he was at one time but over the years things went bad. Now she's not sure she should let herself go again for another main of the same blood, raised by the same people.

This book was somewhat short, but it brought together a wonderful plot with romance, awesome kids, and some deeper meanings to things with it. I really enjoyed reading this book, and I highly recommend it.

Danielle Cooper's alcoholic and abusive husband died 4 months ago. And all he left her was...alone. She and her 5 year old twin sons are slowly starving to death on a barren and debt ridden 400 acre farm. Hale Cooper, Dani's brother-in-law hasn't been back home in 6 years, accused of a horrendous act that he did not commit. Dani was the only one who believed Hale was innocent. So when she texts him that she needs help, he immediately drives 1300 miles to be by her side. When Hale offers marriage in return for digging Dani out from her dead husband's foolish financial decisions, will she trust him with her heart or let guilt separate them forever?

I won this book in a First Reads Giveaway!! I thought it was an amazing story. The fact she threw herself into Hale's arms when she saw him made me think they dated at an earlier time but I was wrong. Surprisingly wrong. It was Hale's brother not Hale. They way she was thinking all Cooper men were the same only to find out how wrong she was. The fact that Hale never really stopped loving her made me feel that his leaving wasn't for all the reasons given. I can definitely relate to the fact she gives up things so her boys have more. The ending when all the secrets were revealed was not what I was figuring they would be and truthfully sometimes I am glad to be wrong. I would recommend this to anyone who likes secrets and happy endings. I read it the same day I received it and thought it was an awesome book.

I enjoyed this book. It is a sweet, fast read filled with betrayal, secrets, and love. I enjoyed watching Hale and Danielle figure things out and (I know this is strange), but I enjoyed Hale's disability and how it worked with the story. I often find the use of a disability annoying in books because it feels like the author is using it as a plot device. Not in this book. The inability to hear fit seamlessly into the plot and while you were told about it a lot, it wasn't really used to move the plot line or cause unnecessary ruckus in the characters lives. It seemed totally real and I appreciated that.

Dani had a horrible marriage and after her husband died she was left with huge debt and a falling apart farm that she didn't know how to keep up. When her husband's disowned brother shows up to help her she is relieved. They were good friends once. The unspoken feelings of the past began to come back for both of them, but neither had the nerve to bring it up. When truths of past come out the hurt is overwhelming but it finally gives them a chance to speak the words they'd never spoken before. I'd love to read what comes next and how Dani's boys grow up.

All in all, I enjoyed the book and will definitely read Ms. Kellan's future releases.

I do have one major quibble though. To me, it seemed that the author deprecated Mark's character in order to praise Hale. Mark was no saint by any means, but there had to something good in him, otherwise Dani wouldn't have stayed with him for so long. Also, maybe I'm being too fussy, but I was taught that it's inappropriate to speak ill of the dead, therefore I felt slightly uncomfortable while reading this book.

Other than that, it's a great read that I would recommend.

A novella and a delightful romance. Set on a farm. I love that, and it's so rare to see a story set on a traditional farm.

The reader guesses right away that the hero has loved the heroine for many years, although the heroine is unaware. It takes her awhile to trust her old friend, and the slowly growing tension is fun. The hero is the sweetest guy ever.
