Kyle Sterling is Emmy's boss and the biggest jerk she knows. He's abrasive, uptight, and selfish. When Emmy sleeps with Kyle after a night of drinking, she quickly tries to put the mistake behind her. When the duo is snowed in together over a long weekend, Emmy begins to discover there is more to Kyle than his mean-spirited behavior. Unfortunately, Kyle has a steady girlfriend he is unwilling to break up with.

Moving on and putting that long weekend behind her, Emmy starts dating attorney Luke Kessler. Luke treats Emmy with kindness, reverence, and loves her unconditionally. He is everything Emmy should ever want in a man—sexy, intelligent, successful, and funny, with strong family bonds. He is definitely everything her loudmouthed, overly opinionated mother could ever want for her. Even as their relationship takes off, Emmy is finding Kyle hard to shake. He aggressively pursues her, blatant in his feelings and desire for her. When Emmy succumbs to her hidden feelings for Kyle without setting Luke free, devastating consequences ensue.

Addicted to Kyle, unable to purge him from her life, Emmy's once easygoing life is now on a path of destruction. Will she let go of this man before it's too late? Is Luke's love truly unconditional? Will Emmy ever recover from accidentally on purpose falling for two men at the same time?

This book was all over the place.

It started out all right for me and I was starting to get into Emmy and Kyle's dysfunctional relationship.

As soon as Luke entered the picture, L.D. lost me. The author did not do a good job of explaining why Emmy was so into Kyle and was unable to give him up when clearly Luke was the better prospect. Random facts were thrown in just to fit the story, they didn't even really make sense, such as Emmy's parents being loaded and her being a trust fund baby. How many Paris Hiltons of the world would put up with being a secretary for Kyle and putting in countless hours when they clearly didn't have to work? This was an obvious attempt by the author to beef up the storyline, which was already interesting. Instead, the afterthought addition of random facts felt awkward and threw off my reading mojo.

Emmy didn't have any underlying issues that kept her with Kyle, she was a strong, independent female. In addition, Kyle didn't seem to have any redeeming qualities. He was a jerk, no one liked him and he was violent. And, oh yeah...

I was ready to throw my laptop at the wall after Emmy met with Kyle when she went back to Jersey. How many chances are you going to get in life? You're finally getting things back together and you're jerking around again. So frustrating.

I also read Pieces of Rhys by L.D. Davis and I had similar observations. Not a great book by any means, I probably won't check out any more their works.

Gah! Had I known this was about a love triangle I would have never bought it. I Accidentally on Purpose purchased this book in 2012 when I saw all my friends buying it. Then I let it sit on my shelf for almost three years while I read other stuff. Then the C.D. Canaries group posed a challenge to read 20 books from your TBR shelf and I decided to read books from my “purchased but unread” shelf.

I hate love triangles, most of the time, and yet I couldn’t stop reading this book. The writing and the execution of the story was ADDICTING. Finally at 3 a.m. I forced myself to sleep.

One of the main reasons I don't like 'love triangles' is the characters end up with divided hearts. Along with a divided heart comes cheating and that is always painful to read. I was conflicted while I was reading this book. Just like the characters I kept thinking:

"But this is wrong!”
“Yeah, but it feels right.”

My statuses tell how I felt while I maneuvered through this book. I don’t want to give anything away because suffering through this angsty story is part of the fun. Personally, for me, I like the angst because it makes me “feel”... it makes me invest in the story. Plus no ones life is perfect and it’s the “angst” in our lives that makes for a great story later on.

”Anyone who can rationalize love through intellect, has no idea what love is, for it is an emotion, and cannot be rationalized. For love is crazy.” ~ Christopher Bombardier

Over the last year FMA has told me how much she loves Ms. Davis’s books. After reading this one I won’t be so reluctant to try an author my friends love. I’m always nervous I’ll be the black sheep and not like the book that they loved but I guess that’s part of the reading experience-> no two people read the same book.

One more thing, this question is for Ms. Davis… what kind of shampoo did Emmy use? I need some of that stuff.

**Update: 5/5/2012**

Just Reread Accidentally on Purpose and I loved it even MORE then the first time!! This is a must read!!!

I decided to buy Accidentally on Purpose to have for a road trip I was on. I saw it had good ratings and thought it would be a steamy and easy read while on the road. I had no idea this story would capture my attention and my heart. It was beautifully written, the characters were intriguing,funny, and well developed. I could not put down this book at all!! I am in love with everything about this book, including Luke. What an amazing, successful, sweet man I want to make my own!

Emmy is almost 30 years-old. Never married, no boyfriend in sight, works for a company as a personal assistant to the biggest prick in the office. One night at a bar Emmy runs into this prick, Kyle.. who maybe a prick but a hot prick. One thing leads to another and of course they sleep together.

The two begin to have a secret relationship. They have really tender moments but also hot crazy sex. Kyle has a girlfriend who he only with because both their families are wealthy and they look good together on paper. Kyle seems to really love Emmy and Emmy loves Kyle too in their own crazy way. There are times I want Kyle to screw his family and his future and be with Emmy. Other times it seems all they are to each other is a fun night in the sack. I was really torn with out how I felt for them being together.

Then Emmy starts to date a hot lawyer, Luke. He is everything you want in a boyfriend and more. He loves Emmy and she loves him too but can't seem to stop her affair with Kyle. I want to scream and kick Emmy to stop cheating on Luke and dump Kyle but like I said I was torn because sometimes it seemed Kyle and Emmy should be together.

Over time, Luke and Emmy end their relationship. The scene of Luke dumping Emmy was amazing and you felt the pain he was feeling. Scenes like that is why I LOVED this book. I am afraid to say too much about the book and give away the story. I had no idea novel had such depth to it and was amazing with how much I feel in love with every single character and their families.

Accidentally on Purpose is one giant surprise I want to wrap and reopen again and again! The ending was amazing and set up perfectly. I had no idea how it would end, who would be with who, and how it would eventually end was a shock.

I was a little surprised for Kyle's ending and it seemed a little out of the blue because you don't hear about it until the end. You will HATE Kyle and I am glad I ended up hating him because if I didn't I would still wonder if him and Emmy should be together but now I understand he isn't good for her, he is toxic no matter how much he is in love with her or the feelings she may have for him or did have for him.

I really encourage ladies out there to read Accidentally on Purpose if you are looking for a story about a witty, funny, independent woman, with a crazy family (who you will love and laugh at), want to read steamy love scenes, fall in love with two men, but eventually know the one she should be with, and a storyline that is totally unique and special.

I give Accidentally on Purpose 5 stars. I am so glad I picked this up and decided to give it a try. I love being happily surprised by a book and falling in love with a new book boyfriend, Luke!!!! It is on my favorites shelf.

It happened accidentally on purpose- my heart accidentally started loving two men, but I purposely (and stupidly) acted on it instead of walking away from one of them.

Emmy and Kyle, Emmy and Luke...
Emmy is a 30 year old single woman, she is a hoot. Emmy’s boss Kyle can be a dick. But one night, they run into each other at a bar and they hook up. And it changes everything. Kyle has a serious girlfriend, and some circumstances keep him from being able to break up with her. Emmy decides to move on. With Luke(another guy at her office) who has had a thing for her for years.

“I don’t want you to think thats all I want from you.”
“What else do you want from me?”
“Everything” he whispered.

Luke was great to Emmy. He loved her and treated her well... don’t see the problem? Well, Kyle loves her too. And she loves him. Kyle ‘the dick’ isn’t always that. he has a really sweet side. I’m not going to lie... the first half of the book I was totally Team Kyle!

“Don’t lie to me. Don’t ever lie to me. Tell me you love me.”
“Sex does not equal love.”
“I know that, but I loved you before I ever touched you.”

Emmy tried to make things right several times, but she could never find it in herself to get rid of Kyle and come clean with Luke. She wanted to do the right thing, it was really taxing on her to go on like this.

I was trying to reinforce our friends only relationship. I was selfish, because I didn’t want to give up Kyle completely, but I didn’t want to be a sneaky hoe bag either.

About half way through, things just went crazy! And then even more crazy! Reader beware- this love triangle takes you on a bumpy ride!

What I wanted to happen in this book, and what actually happened were two different things, but overall I was satisfied with the ending. Emmy was very conflicted through the book, I really liked her, but other times I wanted to scream at her! Kyle Kyle Kyle... what am I gonna do about you? I loved you at the beginning- I did. You made it really hard on me Luke was great. There were times, he hurt Emmy too, but all things considered, he was a wonderful guy. Emmy had some great, funny friends. And the relationship between her and her mom was just too much! They had me cracking up! “At any rate, you always look beautiful. Except when you wear red lipstick. It makes you look like a whore.” That mom was hilarious!

Looking for an emotional, roller coaster, ansty, love triangle book that you won’t be able to put down, read away!

“You’re not a lost cause. Yes, you made bad decisions, but you’re not doomed. I love you Emmy, scars and all.” sigh

I'm all jacked up on angst-driven romance right now so when I saw this cover and title I thought "meh". Not that I don't read sexy, sweet light-hearted adult romances, it just isn't what I'm feeling at the moment. But being the first book to pop up on my Kindle day after day wore me down so I decided to give it a shot.

What can I say? I erroneously judged a book by its cover; but come on...if it looks like a duck, right? In this wonderful era of the indie author, so many books are continuously being presented that for me the book covers act as tags. Visually I can tell if I'm in the right place without reading a thing. Kick in the title "Accidentally on Purpose" and you've got light, sexy contemp...Bella Andre, Shannon Stacey, Jill Shalvis. Not the case here. Although the author has a great sense of humor and is able to project that through the heroine's high-spirited personality, the subject matter isn't funny at all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
RECIPE FOR DISASTER
Ingredients:
1 - Beautiful, single, independent, open-minded female
1 - Hot-headed, hot-bodied hunky boss, attached but not unavailable
1 - Sexy studmuffin hottie with a jumbo-sized who-ha, single but convinced ingredient #1 is who he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
Mix 3 ingredients very carefully. Timing is of utmost importance as you don't want 2nd & 3rd ingredients to blend.
When inserting into the oven, WEAR A GLOVE! Failure to do so means someone will surely get burned.
Finished product will result in a complex love triangle
Note: Do not attempt to enhance recipe with crystal meth as it might create a monster.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is Emmy's story - a beautiful, brainy, feisty, potty-mouthed 30yr old "Jersey Girl" who loves to drink and plot her mother's demise (usually done simultaneously), who falls in love with two hot men and the repercussions of not having the willpower to let one of them go. She will crack you up, she will piss you off and she might make you cry...whatever it is, she will definitely evoke some kind of emotion in you. And so will Kyle and Luke who both love Emmy with everything they've got... but of course are approaching from very different angles as Kyle is engaged to someone else and Luke wants to "domesticate" her. As you might imagine, this story packs a whole lotta punch (literally & figuratively) so proceed with caution. But definitely proceed!!

5 stars!

OMG! I have been meaning to read, but was waiting on book 2. Series is complete.
Stand-alone book 1, but a triangle so you’ll want to read book 2. If you don’t want spoilers do not read book 2 blurb. Thanks Sarah!xo

BLURB:
Emmy hates her boss Kyle Sterling. She does the unthinkable after a night of drinking and sleeps with him. Before she can even begin to put the enormous mistake behind her, she finds herself snowed in for a long weekend with Kyle. The pair not only get cozy while the storm rages outside, but Emmy sees a side of Kyle that she didn’t know could possibly exist beneath his hard, temperamental exterior.

When the storm is over, Emmy insists on moving on, especially since Kyle has a long-standing girlfriend, socialite and heiress Jessyca Venner. Soon Emmy starts dating Luke Kessler, and even as their relationship grows serious, she finds Kyle hard to shake. Kyle aggressively pursues Emmy without mercy, despite the fact that she clearly loves Luke. Armed with the knowledge that Jessyca possess sensitive and alarming information that has the enormous potential of destroying Sterling Corporation, Kyle refuses to cut ties with her until he is able to find a way to save the family business from devastation.

Emmy, unable to resist Kyle any longer, begins to make a series of bad decisions that result in heartbreaking, life altering, and even devastating consequences.

Is there hope for Emmy or will she lose everything? Will she be able to forgive Kyle for a terrible act? Will she be able to forgive herself?

Yep you read it right...5 big ole whopping stars from me a stingy star giver. I am an emotional and angsty loving book fiend.

The opening scene cracked me up. Emmy is hilarious and who hasn't wanted to say what she says in that moment? HILARIOUS. Oh and Kyle's quote much later in the book "what is this, is it in your family's DNA to hate me?" Doesn't sound funny but is chuckle out loud funny while reading it.

Emmy, Kyle, and Luke OH MYYY!
I admit it , I loved every one of them. You think you know what this story is about and that there is a bad guy...NOPE, YES, NO, you'll see. It's about Emmy and where she is in her life. So refreshing to read about a 30 year old non virgin. This author was able to capture every emotional moment perfectly. I love the humor and the snarky smart ass that is Emmy. She screws up but is awesome. She is real. The story follows her character through the dark parts of her life, can she make it through?
I was so sucked in to Kyle and Emmy . They fit, they clicked, they had chemistry on paper, no matter how wrong- you find yourself rooting for them at times. AHHH then there is Luke ! What a freaking sweetheart. I love Emmy but anything bad you can say about any other characters was in fact in her as well. At times she is her own worst enemy -but isn't that life?

The story is written at times where Emmy is talking to you the reader. I laughed, yelled, and gripped my Nook so hard.
The story is solid and the steam factor up there-but fitting.

CURRENTLY .99 WHAT A BARGAIN!

I swear this book had me in knots. I have a seriously stressful job, but today all I could think about was what would happen next.

Kyle or Luke, who will Emmy choose? What do I even want to happen??

This story owned my thoughts today and I am so glad I fit this one in!! Now onto book 2!

2.5 - 3 ★'s

I'm going to start with explaining my low star rating first...

I always hate investing in a book only to end up disappointed but don't we all? Almost ALL of my friends have five-starred this book so you can imagine my surprise that I didn't, especially since it's suppose to have angst written all over it.

To be honest, I'm having a hard time articulating exactly why I didn't like it that much. The story felt forced almost as if it was telling me the story instead of drawing me in. I guess not liking the characters was another huge influence.

That and being hit over the head at about the ninety percent mark with a twist that had vital information. The only good point was that the character was beyond saving even without that information. Still...I hated that! I definitely felt manipulated.

I also never felt the love...WTH? One felt more like lust and him just getting what he wanted. Also, his "problem" was solved rather easily.

And while I sort of felt love from the other, especially in the beginning, what he said later floored me. Don't get me wrong, I understand he was justified and hurt but he's loved her for years.

description

But let me tell you a little bit about the story...

Emmy has worked for Kyle for a while as his executive assistant and she's very good at her job. He's known as a "dick" so she's trying to get him to be better with his employees.

One night he finds her at a bar, she gets drunk and later they have sex even though he has a girlfriend. She tries to stay away but he doesn't take no very well.

During this time, another employee in a different department asks her out and she goes. She doesn't like being the girl on the side and she almost tries too hard with Luke.

So, now she's carrying on with the both of them.

Kyle and Emmy try to be secretive so needing some time alone, they head off to Miami. Emmy has an unfortunate incident that involves fracturing her wrist and this is the beginning of the end.

And their secretive romance is not so secret...leading to a different fall out.

Still Emmy tries to make things work and just when she's feeling better about things, life happens but the worse is yet to come. And it's hard to take and even harder hearing the whole truth.

I do like how events moved on from here even if I didn't like how one of them held back. I wanted MORE.

The ending sets things up for both guys with the next books in the series. Will I read them? I'm not sure. I have a mighty need for closure so it is a possibility. Hopefully, those will draw me in better. *fingers crossed*

My Thoughts........

Someone posted that this book was on sale for $.99, so I went and bought it, then forgot about it. The other day I was looking for something to read, thumbing through books I've already bought and I came across this book. I starting reading this book and I fell in love with it!!!!!!!! It is a quick, easy and witty read. The story is about Emmy, Luke and Kyle. It's also about how the decisions we make in life can destroy the people and relationships we have. It's about weakness and not making good decisions but at the same time you absolutely can't help yourself! Its also a delicious little love triangle....I love a good love triangle!

I loved Emmy's character! She's was so witty, her inner dialogue had me laughing so hard! She was from a wealthy family but she was so down to earth and never came across as snobby. She worked for Kyle and oh yes, they had a little fling going on. This was a huge problem because Kyle had a girlfriend, not good I know! Then enters the ol' so sweet and good looking, Luke. Luke is an attorney and he is every girls fantasy, he is so sweet to Emmy. He also works for Kyle's company. I'm sure you can see the recipe for a train wreck, from what I just wrote. However, I truly enjoyed this train wreck and all the ups and downs it delivered!

The ending was beautiful because quite simply it shows you that people can learn powerful lessons from their mistakes. This book was quite a treat and unexpected, I'm so glad I read!!

I only have good things to say about this book.
I started the book hopeful like everyone else that Emmy would end up with Kyle.

I have to admit that I thought he was really trying in the beginning, I understood that he had obligations and was working his way through them. I just never thought it would take that long! Then like Leo said: nothing would change because she accepted it to be that way.

I have to admit that the first half of the book I was secretly wishing she would end up with Kyle. Yes I said it again maybe because I really felt that way!
Luke was very sweet and loved her but u know how how we are as humans, we always want what we can't have. That's what Emmy craved- in her words he was her drug!

I started to fall for Luke when he gave her the choice to choose him, sometimes u know the truth but u choose to ignore it beacuase you want it sooo bad!

My heart broke when Luke broke up with her. I was very conficted at that stage because like Emmy, I wanted her to be with both of them because I wasn't ready to let go of any! Lol!!

When Kyle broke her wrist, I really did feel that it was a mistake! I was still willing to forgive him. But that was the LAST straw for me what he did to her at new years! First kissing Jess then hitting her!!

I really admired Emmy for leaving and going away and having the baby. She faced her inner Demons instead of running to Luke because Kyle messed up.

Luke stole my heart all over again when he asked her to move in with her.
I really can't blame the guy for being angry with her and not talking to her but I would have done the same if I was him.

They slowly found their way back together and I think the fire and confronting Kyle and letting go or letting him go was the only way to move forward!

The only thing I feel that should not have happened was her falling pregnant again!
Really!! They needed time back together before another baby!

Anyway this was an awesome book and I loved every page of it. I was even at the point of blow drying my hair and reading! Lol.
I love that this book was so realistic!

6 stars! :D

This book was a confusing mess of emotions. Emmy ends up falling for her boss, whose a jerk and at the same time agrees to go out with a co-worker, Luke. At first Luke is made to be this real stand up guy and according to other reviewers they saw him the same way, but I had my doubts. To me, he came off as a good guy on eh surface but he was a bit of a player. Even though Emmie was cheating on him, I kinda didn’t care.

Kyle was a jerk throughout, but I really think he was between a rock and a hard place with his girlfriend. His actions weren’t always honorable, but when it was said and done, I Mainly because I didn’t like what Luke did when Emmie and him started That’s when I wanted to stop reading the book. I knew who the author was going to make her end up with and I didn’t like it.

My opinion is unpopular, but it is what it is.

Safety: There was never mention of condoms or STD’s. She admittedly took the pill when she remembered and was then

The next book in the series is about Kyle, I won't be reading it. I checked into the third installment which is from Luke's POV and from other reviewers we find out

I will not be reading book 3. Kind of wished I hadn't read book 1, but I was looking for a little angst.

2.5 stars. Wow, what a train wreck of a heroine, but at least the story gave us a decent HEA. I almost DNF'd this book but stuck with it based on the number of friends who enjoyed it. It had a lot of twists and angsty moments, so I can see why many liked it, but too many elements of this story are not my cuppa.

Emmy is the kind of character I would normally hate in most books, yet in ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE she is the heroine. I will be honest, it took a lot to warm up to her character. The story is told over several years, and fortunately she does a lot of growing and learning (thank God!!), but for much of this book she makes one bad decision after another followed by excuses, excuses, excuses!

This was a hard story to read. First and foremost, readers should be aware that this book has a fair amount of cheating going on. You can make your own judgement, but for me cheating can't be excused so simply as Emmy and Kyle do over-and-over-and-over. It didn't endear me any more to Emmy as she kept blaming Kyle for much of their problems, not owning her own part. I get that was part of the issues she needed to overcome and learn from as the story develops, but it was still hard to read.

Then there was the love triangle with the obvious cliche' of one is 'good', one is 'bad'. I really liked Luke, but I understood her desires for Kyle as well. However, love triangles are not my cuppa either.

There is also a storyline of physical abuse, which really shocked me and pissed me off.

There were some unexpected twists-and-turns, which certainly brought the book up a notch or two, but in the end the story wasn't my cuppa. I have no plans to read more of this series, I prefer to leave it here with the HEA we got.

Absolutely, without a doubt, 5 stars!

I won't go into details because I think I may be the last person to read this book. (I've had it downloaded since 2013).

Talk about a rollercoaster ride!! Whoa, just so much happened in this book. And while I did like Kyle, I absolutely fell for Luke and my heart was breaking for him the majority of the time.

Warning to those who don't like cheating......which I am one of those people......but this book was "Picked for Me" by Leslie in our challenge and I'm really happy to have finally read it! I'm even moving onto Book 2, Worthy of Redemption, because I need to know what happens with Kyle in the aftermath of all that angst!!!!!!

Find This and Other Reviews At Craves The Angst.

4.5 Big Crazy Insane Stars!

The Review:
First off, let me say how much I loved the main character, Emmy. She was a smartass, she had spunk and she was fun. Then I wanted to strangle her… then I wanted to hug her… then I envied her… then I wanted to strangle her again… and finally I felt happy for her.

Emmy is a PA for her boss, Kyle, at his company Sterling Corp. where he is notoriously knows as dickhead. He treats everyone in the office like his own personal punching bag, including Emmy who seems to take the brunt of his anger. So she’s surprised to find him searching her out at a bar she owns one night after a particularly stressful day. But instead of the surly ingrate she’s used to, he apologizes and they commence to get drunk together which leads to an unhealthy affair. He’s her addiction and she’s his. Their relationship is intense and passionate and on some occasions, toxic. However, the author does an incredible job making you like Kyle. Then in walks Luke, a wonderful and caring man who turns Emmy and Kyle’s affair into a triangle. It gets messy and convoluted but this story draws you in and holds you tight. The chemistry between Kyle and Emmy and between Luke and Emmy never falters and at one point I literally couldn’t decide which paring I liked best. Things take a dark and twisted turn and you can’t help but feel for Emmy even though she brought a lot of the complications on herself. I went through a myriad of emotions reading this book, ranging from love, dislike, hate and adoration.

The Wrap Up:
This book was a powerhouse of emotional angsts and I totally loved every minute of it. Its definitely one I’ll re-read.

We’ve all had that one boyfriend or girlfriend that turned you into someone no one recognized. You dont even recognize yourself. Your need for them takes over and you become an addict for them, their touch, their call, their everything. It truly feels like you are on drugs and nothing can break you from it and all you think about is your next fix and when you get it, its smooth and intoxicating and you just cant get enough. Until shit hits the fan! And even then you want a lil bit more of that forbiddeness and you are back to square one with a bloody nose, literally! I have to say when Part 1 ended I was in fucking shock! Kyle what??? He did what? Why???? That threw me for a loop. Totally was not expecting that to come outta left field. But really, I should have seen it. Sometimes love/obsession is BLIND!!!

After the relationship we all wanted to ride over and over again, we finally had to get off of the damn rollercoaster or throw up or maybe even both. The relationship between Emmy and Kyle is/was dysfunctional. They both wanted what they couldn’t have but was willing to sacrifice everything to keep what was slowly making them crazy. That spark they had could only last so long, right? What started out as innocent ended up blowing up for all involved.

And Luke, he was always there silently loving Emmy when she was so clueless. She had a great thing with him but she took it for granted. Again I was surprised with this story. The way he played things out with Emmy was priceless. When the dreaded reality hit him he hurt Emmy like no one else could. She never thought in a million years that her sweet Luke would blow her off like he did and I think she finally realized that a part of her died that night.

Part 2
Forgiveness and moving forward.

Can you forgive someone who broke your heart into unrecognizable pieces never to be put back to right? You may say no to this question but you gotta remember, this is a book so of course theres a happily ever after.

Emmy was so beat down and with all the wrong she’d done to Luke, she didn’t think she deserved happiness She didn’t feel like she was worthy of anyone or anything. Her days were lived to take care of her child and that was it.
A little help from Luke and a small semblance of life came back into her eyes.

Emmy had nothing to lose. For once in her life she was honest and with the honestly brought more shit to the table. Ultimately this is what it took to bring some peace into her life and she was able to find happiness and closure.

This book was full of some major effedupness and as much as I hated the cheating in it I couldn’t put this one down. This book is gritty and toxic and full of angst and I loved every minute of it.

Due to I'm pretty partial to this book, my review will be scattered, dotted with extremely personal thoughts.

"Coming from a guy who wasn't always nice to women, he's only going to treat you the way you let him. If you continue to be tolerant of circumstances, he's not going to have a reason to change."

Dear Ms. David,

I must admit that when I started reading, I thought this one would be another romance-erotic novel, but I was so wrong. It hit me in a deep level.

Your characters (and their traits as well) were perfectly delimited, each one with its own persona.

Your plot, a total real life drama, with all the feelings that surrounds us in a daily basis.

I could totally understand Emmy, her fears, her tremors, her struggle, her needings, being broken, and not feeling complete, due to I myself lived a similar experience, not having two relationship at the same time, but being in an physical and mental abusive relationship.

"Love can make us do things we never meant to do."

Kyle is the typical guy, who's use to get all that he wants, at the moment he needs/wants it, no matter consequences, but not because of his family, but despite of his family. He's the little wounded boy, who's always pressured to assume faults that aren't his.

"At first, I couldn't figure out why I was seeing stars and why my left side of my face stung and hurt so badly. Not until mi vision began to clear did I see Kyle standing over me, with his hand raised and breathing erratically, with an animalistic expression on his face. I tasted the blood and then I realized he hit me."

Luke. Even though he's Mr. Prince Charm, he isn't perfect: he's someone who's hurt, that deals with pain, lust, sadness, traitors, and himself. Although, he accepts Emmy in spite of herself, knowing she's broken.
“I love you, Emmy, scars and all.”

So, while I was reading your book I just kept thinking I was one of the lucky ones, those one who had the support and who could get off these situations, despite circumstances.

“Anyone who can rationalize love through intellect, has no idea what love is, for it is an emotion, and cannot be rationalized. For love is crazy.”

That's why my review is totally partial, due to you, as a writer, touched a sensible, forgiven part of me.

Never accept anything (or anyone) less than you deserve.

DNF. Not a bad book at all,really funny at times. I just didn't "connect" or sympathized with the characters at all, unfortunaltly. May go back to it some day though...

The moral is: Never sleep with a man whom you (and everyone you know) regularly refers to as The Dick. Seriously, big effing clue!

This is a disturbing look at the unfavorable side of sexual obsession from the viewpoint of a victim in denial. No one in this book can be accused of doing anything inventive and intelligent. All of the characters are tailored to be reactionary, uninformed witnesses and/or participants in this crudely-functioning relationship. There are no heroes. Luke brings an edge to the nice-attorney-down-the-hall role, but I found him too...tolerant. The dark, irresistible-and-equally-repulsive dickhead Kyle is chillingly warped. And the victim, Emmy, is layer after layer of frustration and stupidity. But this is where Ms Davis' writing prevailed. She doesn't begin the story by telling the reader Emmy's bad choices are the reason she's faded into a hollow shell. Rather, she forces us to live every painful detail of this wilting transgression, horrible decision after horrible decision, showing exactly how this praiseworthy woman becomes a shattered screw-up.

This unyielding examination of the battered Emmy ends as another one of those angsty romances where the leading lady toys with indecision, insecurity, and infidelity. The characters are far from perfect. Even the HEA felt twisted and stained. But I think that's the point. In the fallout of abuse and obsession, the reader will likely be coping with the choices Emmy made. But Emmy's deep dissatisfaction with herself is quite lucid and heart-breaking, which riled a mercy I didn't realize I was capable of having for her. The emotional assault alone makes this book a recommended read.

I know I’m joining the minority in my opinion of this book. There were just too many negatives that I couldn’t ignore. What I found to be the best part of this story is the surprising shocker that the author hid well. I really didn’t see it coming until it hit me in the face.

Both Emmy and Kyle were detestable characters. Kyle was just a jerk from the get-go and Emmy was one of the weakest heroines in my memory. She’s such a contradiction. Smart in so many ways and just dumb as nails in too many others. And lest you should wonder – cheating was a two-way street for this couple. Even though Kyle was scum of the earth in my opinion, Emmy sat right there on the curb ready to fall into the gutter with him.

Adding another layer to this messy situation is a relationship triangle and one side named Luke, who I dubbed “the enabler.” Although he appeared to be the right choice in my mind from the very start, our lovely heroine didn’t agree. I guess I can see where she’s coming from – after all, why make it simple?

The story, which spans several years, is loaded with ugly moments and cheating is at the heart of the entire book. And the ugliness doesn’t stop with cheating - there are layers of abuse as well. Like I said, it’s packed with ugly love – and I do feel that the characters loved each other in their own questionable ways.

There are major struggles to get to a happy ever after ending, but two of the characters manage to overcome the drama to achieve the positive outcome. Although this appears to be the start of a series, I'm stopping here where I'm satisfied with the ending.

WHEW! This author stabbed me in the heart with all of the FEEEEELS in this book!

I bought this book on purpose when I saw that it was about a woman in a love triangle. I have no shame. I admit I'm drawn to angst-ridden, frustrating love triangles that make me want to punch the characters in the throat. Apparently I have issues. :p

I've never read a love triangle like this one before, though. This story is so creative and so well written that I thought my heart would burst with all the emotions it evoked in me.

Emmy's life and her bad choices were so incredibly annoying yet addictive. So addictive to the point that I could NOT put my Kindle down. I HAD to find out what would happen to Emmy and her dysfunctional relationships. I HAD to find out who she ends up with at the end. So, as I'm reading as fast as possible trying to figure out what is going to happen, the story takes a crazy, unexpected turn. What happens to Emmy, I never saw coming. It was CLEVER.

I will admit that I have a love-hate relationship with the first half of this book. I felt so frustrated most of the time. But then the second half of the book made up for all the frustration and anger I endured.

This book is good. Amazing really. So, if you don't mind reading about angsty love triangles or cheating, then read this book.

This book was highly frustrating! It was just OK for me. I hated all the characters. I wanted to pull my hair out and scream the whole time I was reading. If you like cheating, physical abuse, lying, drug abuse, and completely frustrating characters, this book is for you.

Kyle Sterling leads his father's office, Sterling Corporations, and is highly wealthy and attractive. Nevertheless, all of Kyle Sterling's employees as well as numerous others, including Emmy, know Kyle is a "dick."

"You're worse than a douche bag. You're a douche puddle, the excrement of douching."

Yet, Emmy sleeps with Kyle. When the one-night fling turns into repeat nights, Emmy and Kyle find themselves in an affair. Kyle is continuing his relationship with Jessyca and Emmy started a relationship Luke. Obviously this leads to devastating consequences.

"...he's only going to treat you the way you let him. If you continue to be tolerant of your circumstances, he's not going to have a reason to change."

As a reader, I never understood the attraction to Kyle as he continually fell through on his promise to leave Jessyca and only seemed to say and do the right things when it benefited him getting what he wanted from Emmy. In addition, I lost sympathy for Emmy when she continually chose Kyle over Luke, who was obviously a better choice because he treated her with dignity. On the other hand, that dignity was lost when Luke's caring personality completely changes as he dumps Emmy in a distasteful manner. Anger would be understandable, but he was ruthless.

By the time I was fifty percent done with the book I was ready for it to be over, not even caring if it ended with the usual happily-ever-after as I no longer held any connection to the characters. However, the author drags the story line by seemingly throwing in one scenario after another - abuse, pregnancy, and drugs - which only appears to be added to explain something that already has happened or to justify something after the fact.

Overall, the beginning of the book held promise with the sarcastic and laughable dialogue, but that was soon lost the more the characters became less and less appealing and the author introduced more issues that seem to be thrown in from left field.

OMG! WOW! This book was so AMAZING. I got 3 hours of sleep last night cause of this book. I could not put it down. IT will take me a couple of days before I'm able to shake the feeling I had when I read and finished it.The characters are so raw and real. I was so shocked by the end of part one. Didn't see it coming. My feelings for Kyle were all over the place. Sometimes I loved him, sometimes I hated him. But regardless of everything that took place, I truly believe that Emmy and Kyle loved each other. At the same time I felt so bad for Luke. You don't realize who she's staying with till the end of the book. I would love a book for the Loser. I still want a HEA for him. Such a steal for 99c. Please get this book and enjoy the ride..

"Kyle was a drug and I was the addict"---EM

"A real man wouldn't do anything that could potentially hurt you. I manage to hurt you every day, every minute. I can see it in your eyes, Em"---Kyle

This is how I felt for most of this book:

For Most of this book, I wanted to Bitch slap Emmy for more than half of the book. Kyle I just wanted to punch in the face and poor Luke I just wanted to hug him.

This book had me frustrated for most of it, I was angry annoyed and then just sad.

But I'm glad that Luke got his HEA!!

Thank you Nas for book that I want to throw against the wall

I really feel some heart burn giving this five stars. I didn't love any of the characters. I didn't like a lot of their decisions. I often didn't approve of their choices. They went through the story hurting each other and themselves. They repeated the same mistakes over and over. They let their inner demons rock their worlds, and everyone else. They were selfish, and blind, and cowardly. They were also surprisingly kind and selfless at times. They loved, as much as they could in their own broken ways. They kept trying, even after they failed repeatedly. They sought redemption, and absolution. Even though I didn't like them, I felt for them. Deeply. It hurt my heart to watch them struggle.

I'm not sure what exactly I was expecting going into this story, but it wasn't this. Emmy was about as flawed a heroine as I've ever seen. I was so deeply upset with some of her decisions, that it is honestly hard for me to get past. But really, no one got off Scott free. Kyle, disappointed me over and over (and it hurt every time, even though I knew that he was going to do it). And even Luke, didn't get a pass. If you like angsty - this one is a 100 winner - read it, you won't be sorry.
