Release date: TBA

Niko is broken, as his city is broken. An unmatched assassin—yet still a just a youth, haunted by dreams of fire and blood, and robbed of free will.

Little Brona is the spymaster, and the architect of a deadly web of blackmail, kidnapping, and torture. She is a kind of mother to him, but not the one he deserves. She speaks, and Niko obeys.

The balance of power shifts when a beautiful boy comes between them, in a dance whose steps are no accident. His body can deny Niko nothing, yet his face hides a secret only Brona knows.

But Niko may not get a chance to discover it, or learn how to live out from under her shadow.

A monster stirs in the dark labyrinth of Niko's mind—and once it breaks free, not even Brona may be able to stop it.

JULIO ALEXI GENAO writes for money and reviews for pleasure.

he freelances as an editor of fiction and corporate communications when he has opportune breaks in his hectic twitter schedule.

he eschews capital letters unless someone is paying him, because he is lazy and belligerent, and not because he is an artiste.

he is not defensive about that at all.

or about his choice to write this bio in the third person.

he believes in recreational drugs, professional discourtesy, and the right to review books honestly—even if the author is a friend.

he lives in new york city with three cats, barbaric neighbors, and mental illness.

I never rate things before reading them, it's tacky. BUT, someone gave this 1 star for some unknown reason... so I'm balancing it out.

this is right up there with Volume 3 of Captive Prince: things i'm sure will never get published because the author dies before finishing it.
i don't know how supacat will meet her end, but i'm damn sure julio will be shot by ms. llewellyn for his review of the most terrible blurb ever.

in 2025 some artsy "filmmaker" will make an oscar-winning short movie out of When You Were Pixels, which will make m. night shyamalan direct a horrible prequel some greedy hollywood jackoff wrote in the back of a starbucks. it'll be called A Syntax of Memory, sure, but in a shocking twist niko will be the next aang and you'll damn well know you got ripped off paying for that shit summer blockbuster.

oh well.

To counter the asshats who one-starred a book they didn't read... probably out of spite or jealousy. !@#$ you and the horses you rode in on. Carry on, Mr. Genao.
