What's unique about this book is that the author takes suggestions from other books and says to compile all that in your own book that you create yourself on regular paper and then read parts of it everyday to retrain your brain to think positively which is the key to happiness and a fulfilling life. He also suggests making up your own music compilations to listen to regularly that help keep you in a happy frame of mind. So if you've read about making gratitude journals or writing quotes and poems that you find uplifting or putting up pictures of people you admire to focus on positive things well this guy just says stick it altogether in one place which is smart. Many things are explained step by step as if it was a manual which is good. He goes on to say that by reading it everyday you apparently rewire your brain to focus on the positive and it will automatically banish the negative. He claims to have used this technique with tons and tons of athletes, stars and business people but he won't name any names or just an odd one here and there that very few people have heard of. If it's so phenomenal why aren't these people speaking up?

What I didn't like about the book was the delivery and how the author discounts every other method out there. He's very frank, somewhat full of himself and toots his own horn a bit too much for my taste plus there's excessive self-promotion for some other book he wrote too. He does however give away free templates of how to make up the book on his website so maybe he's just not the best of writers and he comes off as abrasive despite the good message. If all that doesn't bother you then you may find this book helpful.

There are other in your face approaches like Dr Phil's books but Dr Phil is funny and seems more humble and while Dr Spackman's method appears to have merit it's just too bad he couldn't get his message across in a friendlier tone.

What I liked so much about this book is that the author is a New Zealander and so VERY like me with similar experiences. The other thing is that Spackman seems normal. He doesn't seem like some over achieving super positive super human. He is just a man with good ideas and a rich history.
Another great thing about this book is that it starts by telling you why before it goes into how. And then it follows up with clear, informative, interesting, and often personal stories that really help your understanding and increase your belief in what he knows.
I love the idea of putting together your own personal winners bible and I believe this to be an excellent tool and possibly the best thing I have got out of this book.
As one last comment I loved reading the final chapter about his Grandpa's cottage, I found it emotional and highly relateable, i think it was brave and increased his human-ness even if I didn't see the relevance clearly other than that he's saying "at the end of the day, everything is for a reason and you make it through life no matter what is thrown at you."
I can't wait to read the ant and the ferrarri.

I really looked forward to reading this book, because of the the scientific background of Dr. Spackman. The design and layout of the book is reader-friendly. He uses great pictures to get his ideas across. There are few interesting new ideas that I took from the book. For example, to start my own personal "Winner's bible" that can promote motivation to pursue my goals and the use of "emotionally supercharged CD's" to push myself emotionally.

I didn't like the immoderate use of self-promotion in the book. There is no mention of specific clients - one can excuse this by arguing for the confidentiality, but the author also doesn't mention scientific or other sources. Not in the text and not in the end of the book.

I wouldn't recommend this book for it's quality content or new ideas.
