After seventeen year-old Sophie’s mom dies in a tragic accident, she is so engulfed with guilt and sadness, she feels like she could literally, simply lie down and die. But a few months later, on the night she and her friends experiment with a Ouija board, things begin to change in unimaginable ways. Sophie begins to hear, and then see, Nick, a boy who has been dead for two years. This story tells of their blossoming friendship, young love, and how, through Nick, Sophie learns to live again. But even in the spirit world, happiness can’t last forever. There is a dark side to this otherworldly friendship. Not all spirits are good. Sophie’s dreams become haunting, scary nightmares. And soon these nightmares become reality, and lead Nick and Sophie into a battle against this evil spirit. They must fight for her life, but even if they can figure out how to fight a ghost, Sophie isn’t sure she wants to. If she dies, she could be with Nick forever.
FALLING grips emotions and keeps the reader turning pages late into the night.
Lisa lives near the beach with her daughter and four dogs. She spends every spare moment at the beach, either reading, or surfing, or just sitting and watching the water. That's also where she does most of her writing, in a notebook, with a pencil. Lisa is a school teacher, and a yoga teacher. She is passionate about dog rescue. As busy as she stays, she is most happy sitting on her sofa, cuddling with her pups.
This book was fabulous! I absolutely adored Nick. I WANT MY OWN GHOST!!!! I loved how the author created Nick and the changes which occurred during the story. I loved the character growth. As the summary states Nick is of course long dead. But he seems more alive than many people I've had the pleasure of knowing in real life. Yes I realize he is a fictional character, but hey he was just THAT alive!
Sophie I felt so sorry for, she lost her mother when she drowned and blames herself for her mother's death. I will say that this story is a little bit scary at times so it isn't for the younger YA. Unless they like shows that have the creepy aspect to them. I figured out who the bad guy was relatively quickly, so I wasn't surprised at the ending. But all in all this was a fabulous story.
This book is a fairly quick read with only 207 pages. For me that is about an hour and a half with distractions of my son popping in to bug me with his millions of daily questions. But once you start you really won't want to stop reading it until you find out what is going to happen with Nick and Sophie and her real living boyfriend. Who while I didn't mention is just as nice as Nick in his own way.
Details/Disclaimer: Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
I was drawn into the story as soon as Sophie loses her mom in a tragic accident and blames herself. Very quickly it shifts into her meeting Nick, who is a ghost she can only see on reflective surfaces. Very quickly, they develop a relationship with each other, that somehow becomes more and more physical the closer they become emotionally. I was torn between their relationship being romantic and a little creepy, especially as Sophie is being pursued by a real, live corporeal boy.
Enter the evil spirit who begins to haunt Sophie and to threaten her life. What it does to them is pretty scary, kind of like 'Paranormal Activity' and such movies. I was a little surprised to find out the true identity of the evil spirit.
The story ends the way it is supposed to end, but so many different endings are possible. I wanted a little bit more out of the story; it seemed to fly by too fast! I would recommend reading it at night, during a thunderstorm, when you are more likely to hear things bumping and crashing around your own house.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I totally loved Falling, it was so different from other Young Adult books I have read in the past. Sophie befriends Nick a ghost who has been dead for 2 years after her Mom dies trying to save Sophie.
Sophie and Nicks relationship is odd, she can only see him in the mirror at first but she can feel his outline and eventually she is able to see him properly. They love each other and when a evil ghost starts tormenting Sophie in her dreams and then for real saying that he will kill her Nick wants to protect her but can he.
The book is full of different emotions, happiness, sadness, happiness, being scared, frustration and so much more. I absolutely loved reading this I was gripped completely and could not put it down and is probably is the quickest I have read a book because I was so gripped with it.
Lisa Rigsbee writes this very well, in a believable way and I cannot wait to read book number 2.
Where do I start? The story was intriguing and kept my interest, the characters were alive on the page, the dialogue was well written, the editing superb (minus a couple of tiny mistakes that didn't detract from my experience) and the ending was strong and emotional. Despite not being the target audience, I really enjoyed this book! I look forward to more from this author.
This was a good read, but I have mixed feelings about the ending. I'm a HEA girl. Although one may argue the ending was HEA, it wasn't the HEA I was hoping for.
Maybe there's a book 2 that will continue Nick and Sophie's story? I hope so. I'm hoping the flickering lights is a glimpse of more to come.
This sounds REALLY good. I'm not usually real big on heavy romance, but I love ghost stories... not to mention my niece is named Sophie and we lost my sister, her mom, 5 years ago, when Soph was just 6. So this book just grabbed me when I read the synopsis. Very intrigued.
