It has been said that author Tom Winton is a man who writes with his pen dipped in his soul. Like all his previous Amazon best-selling books, his new novella, Within a Man's Heart, is packed with intrigue and emotion. Mr. Winton has been listed as an Amazon Top 100 Author in Literary Fiction. Four years after burying his young wife, New York sales executive Christian Crews still can't move forward with his life. Day after day, treasured memories of his beloved Elyse continue to drift through his spirit like an endless procession of mournful ghosts. Chris wants to leave Manhattan—walk away from his job and the apartment he and Elyse once shared. He dreams of moving to New Hampshire, where he feels he just might have a chance of finding peace. But in his grieving mind, breaking away from those memories would be the same as abandoning Elyse—an unforgivable act of betrayal he could never live with. Then, on the fourth anniversary of Elyse's death, Chris makes two shocking discoveries, and a part of him begins to believe that she would want him to go on with his life. Two weeks later he makes the move to New Hampshire, and minutes after arriving in the small rural village of Mountain Step, he meets a beautiful local woman with mesmerizing gray eyes and a heart as big as the surrounding mountains. Beginning another emotional relationship may be the last thing on Chris's mind, but he soon finds himself falling for Gina Elkin, every bit as hard as she's fallen for him. Could there be a future for them? Will Elyse allow it? After all, she's still deep within Chris's heart—a place no one else has ever been.

He has also been named by Wattpad (the world’s largest online reading platform) as one of their most followed authors.
I read this story in one sitting. It is probably one of the most romantic and yet heartbreaking story I have read this year. The main characters are so well developed that the reader gets to know and understand them. I was very fascinated by Chris Crews. His love for Elyse is so rare and touching that he finds it very difficult to let go even after such a long time. His conflicted emotions about a potential new love are frustrating, yet very realistic. I have a lot of respect for Gina for staying in a difficult situation, because most of us would not have the patience. This story takes you through the experience of great loss, healing and hope. I highly recommend it.
I bought this beautiful little book this afternoon. I opened it up and could not put it down. It's a romantic novella that will entertain and touch you. Written from the perspective of a very talented man "Within a Man's Heart" will not disappoint.
Within a Man's Heart by Tom Winton is an endearing story. Emotional, raw and gripping. A cozy read that takes you by the hand and brings you into the center of the story.
Starting over is never an easy thing but it puts you out of your comfort zone and open to new possibilities. So interesting the choices we make and why we do so.
Quote ~
"As much as I loved Elyse and always would, I knew it wasn't good for my to keep seeing her ghost everywhere I went. But what I didn't know was that someday Elyse herself would actually encourage me to make the move. Oh, she didn't float down from the clouds like some kind of angelic apparition and say in her sweet voice, Go, Chris, go! Go to New Hampshire! No that didn't happen..."
Within a Man’s Heart is the first book I’ve read by Tom Winton, but it won’t be the last. I’d been wanting to read his work for a while but was afraid to do so. I had heard through the literary grapevine that his novels were emotionally intensive and often included sad or heartbreaking elements. So, you can imagine how timid I was when I read the blurb for this one. After all, this author wrote about my biggest fear—losing a spouse. I cannot imagine surviving the overwhelming pain which accompanies that particular loss. As expected, I felt Christian’s grief immensely. I reached for the Kleenex more than once. But guess what? To my surprise and delight, it made the rest of the story all the sweeter. The fact that he loved his wife wholeheartedly and held her memory in such high esteem made me fall in love with this hero. I found myself pulling for him, wanting him to experience romance and passion with Gina. To fall in love again and have a second chance at happiness.
I can’t sing Tom Winton’s praises loud enough. The man has definitely earned his stripes as a romance writer. Before I go, I should mention that this emotionally-charged story was artfully woven together with vivid atmospheric and scenic descriptions. I felt as though I was accompanying Chris (Christian) on his journey. All of my senses were engaged. It was as if I was experiencing all the beauty of New Hampshire firsthand. I highly recommend this book to all lovers of romance. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to download more of this author's work.
Novelist Tom Winton does a wonderful job of showing what happens within a man's heart when he is widowed. For Big Apple sales executive Chris Crews loses his beloved wife to brain cancer, it is a long, downward slide into despair. Giving up the Manhattan apartment he had shared with her, he puts his things in storage and heads north to New Hampshire where he hopes to be rebuild his life. Stopping at a store in a tiny New Hampshire town, he meets a woman he cannot forget. From here we see what it's like for men who have suffered this kind of loss and are unable (and unwilling) to bring it in to the open and grieve it. With the pain locked in his heart, he suffers more pain, including the pain of attraction.
This could have become a trite story, but it isn't, and I thank Tom Winton for penning a tale that pulled me in and kept me in. Men learn as boys not to show their hurts so they won't be ridiculed, put down, and sometimes bullied, and it causes no end of pain. This is a book every man should read, especially men who have suffered the loss of a love. Thank you, Tom Winton, for telling this story and sharing it with your readers. It's one I won't soon forget, if I ever do.
I really enjoyed this well written novella. The book quickly grabbed my attention and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I didn't want the book to end because I was enjoying it so much.
The author has quite a way with words. He described each person and place so well that I felt as if I was right there, in the middle of the action. The cabin in the woods sounded absolutely peaceful and lovely.
This book is full of romance, adventure, and more. It is the story of a man with a broken heart finding love again when he least expected it. Would he allow himself to fall in love again? Read the book to find out!

A widower with a never-ending love for his deceased wife is given a sign and packs it all up, ditches New York, and lands in a small town in New England. He knows he will never love again. Until he is able to get past his guilt, he cannot see that he has found a second true love. This novella is a sweet, sweet, from the heart love story. When you need your heart warmed, read it tonight. My thanks to the author and Goodreads for a complimentary copy.
A beautifully told tale of a man torn between two loves. Four years since his wife died, he is starting to move on, and he meets with the woman who can help him to do that. But would that be to betray the memory of his first love? The setting is in the beauty of the mountains, but the battlefield is in his heart. A short book, but told with skill and depth typical of Tom Winton's writing.

This is a very sweet, moving love story. I think in some way everyone can relate on some level. I'm sad to admit I didn't choose this book, but I am glad it was recommended to me. It moves a little slow at times, but it really has a sense of heart felt longing that draws you to it. All and all a good read
Grief as a crutch. In that respect it was well-written. Even with the male POV in the narration, the story was full of jumps and slow starts. It read more like a draft than a final copy of a tale. It could have been so much more.
