This story...

I never really review romance novels but...it never answered some questions. I know as a romance novel I shouldn't expect much yet...

It never cleared up what happened to Zach. They mentioned him a lot. The baby boy that Tanner had known as his own son for a year until it was revealed by his now ex-wife Cindy that the boy was not biologically his. The book brought him (Zach) up as the reason why Tanner Forsythe acted the way he did. (Though I didn't like what he did. It wasn't an excuse for what he did but more the reason behind why he did what he did. I'll get to what he did later.)

Anna, asked Tanner why he didn't try to look up Zach. And I thought that would mean a reunion but guess that didn't happened. Tanner said he tried finding them before but they must've moved state. For a man who can run companies and became CEO the fact that he didn't hire a P.I. seems out of character. But whatever.

So a dead end on the Zach plotline. Just the mysterious, he's out there...somewhere.

Next. Philip McIntyre.

So Tanner hired him (without preamble to Anna about this) to be Anna's new boss and report to him for her department. His reason: so Anna wouldn't technically be reporting to him, the new CEO. Also, because since she's pregnant (with his baby, might I add) she needs to be slowing down not ramping up for her move to Brussels in January. (FYI, she found out about her pregnancy in October. About a month after he stopped calling/returning her calls and after their night of passion. Poor move on his part. Just because you found out you were going to be becoming Anna's new boss you "dump" her without word. Real classy dude. Crap, I've digressed.)
So, a move Anna's been looking forward to for years and has even learned a new language or two in preparation and has even been "combed" for the job for months. But all of that goes out the window because of the new bundle of joy.

Anna finds out about the new guy on Monday, after spending Saturday afternoon with Tanner and his parents about the prospect of the baby. Then Sunday to "hang out" and nowhere in that time on Sunday did he give her a heads up. Dick move Forsynthe.

Then Phil turns out to be an ego-maniac and turns Anna's workdays hectic but I guess he was just added for tension between Tanner and her. They never deal with him since the end of the story we don't know if the talk Tanner had with him helped him not be such a glory stealer or what. Like, did he get fired, did he change his attitude? Author never says.

Then: the add of John Gilbraithe, the UK customer.
He was just added as a potential rival to Tanner since Anna and John dated for a bit before just staying friends. Since Tanner, Anna's boss, holds the veto power to her move to Europe and had decided that with her promotion to Brussels should be postpone to a later date. Like maybe they could renegotiate after the birth of the baby and maybe after the baby was a few months old she "might" go. Ugh, dick move again.

John was also added because after finding out about Phil mucking up stuff with the European division from Anna and her move to Brussel not being so definitive he asked if that didn't pan out he could offer her a job at his company. You know who wasn't happy about that. You're got it, Tanner.

Tanner shut that down right quick to John when they talked later that the reason why Anna wasn't going was because she was pregnant... with HIS child.

^picture him being more smug than Dean Winchester is to the police.

But one of the problems I had with Tanner was that he had power over Anna when it came to the job. Him with his need to control her from moving to Europe pissed me off, a'ight? There's a reason why teacher/student, boss/employee shouldn't date. The power difference and the fact one side of the couple could wield said power to their advantage does not make a healthy relationship.

But whatever, I liked the story contrary to my review. I just found some faults I wish were addressed but I should not expect that from harlequin-esque books.

God, I don't even know why I read these books if they find a way to grate me. I'm a sadist to myself. And no, I don't care that the correct term is masochist. I feel like there are two of me in here and I feel like one part is sadistic to the other part. It's the only way to explain why I do these things to myself. *goes to pick up another harlequin book because I haven't learned my lesson yet*
