Colton Bradford never believed in love at first sight. And then, Rain Maxwell walked through his buddy's front door. He knew there was something special underneath the shy, guarded exterior and was determined to find out what it was.
The problem? Rain had devised her own set of life rules and “Never get involved with a band mate” was right near the top of that list. She allowed Colton into her heart as one of her closest friends, but pushed him away at the mention of anything more.
When tragedy strikes Rain's personal life, Colton is determined to be there for her in whatever way she'll allow. Will she finally open up to him and consider taking things to the next level? Will Colton's ways of trying to bury his feelings for Rain in the past ruin the possibility of a future for them?
With the exception of three years spent in the middle of Nebraska, H.B. Heinzer has called southern Wisconsin home. During that time in Nebraska, she imagined one of her favorite authors living on the far western edge of the county, just south of the highway. At the time, becoming a novelist was a distant dream for her. Now, she is the author living in that location. Ironically, she later found out that same favorite author lives just outside the town HB lived in for the first eighteen years of her life. Now, HB lives in the middle of nowhere but still close enough to the city to not feel isolated. It's the perfect place to let her two kids run and explore their huge yard, teach them about the food chain as they prepare their first-ever garden and debate building a chicken coop. It's one of those dreams that is only possible thanks to the amazing opportunities that have come through writing.
I love Colton, Jon, Travis and Jared too. Rain is the perfect rock chick!!!!
Book 2 in the series and it rocks your heart. Here’s the thing. There has been many a book written with a band as the core of the story. What sets HB Heinzer’s series apart from the rest is the focus isn’t solely on the band but rather the people that make up the band. What I mean is each band member plays an integral part of the story. No one is in the shadows. In most other rock stories, the focus is on one member for the entire book and it is all about the romance. Don’t get me wrong, there is romance and it’s hot as all get out. Just saying the names Colton, Jon, or Travis will have ladies panting. So even though this is Colton and Rain’s story, the other guys are right there dealing with the evolution of Colton and Rain’s connection. They too must evolve and change along with Colton and Rain so that the pieces that are Blessed Tragedy remain interlocked. In the story when one member is dealing with something, all members are dealing with it. Let me put the hotness aside—oh who am I kidding? HOT! HOT! HOT! Why does Blessed Fate have the ultimate hot factor? Because HB writes about rock guys that are so grounded and down to earth- even Jon. They are always there for one another and they truly feed off of one another. When one is down they all are down. And the extra kick of heat is the front man. Only the front man is a front chick!!! Rain is the total package girl next-door badass rock goddess who is my fictional girl crush. She definitely is no Justin Bieber back up singer. She’s gorgeous but doesn’t flaunt it. She’s talented but works hard. She’s in love with Colton but denies it. Rain is kick as but she has heart and she has vulnerability. She has the power to bring a man to his knees yet she can be crushed. What I also love about HB Heinzer’s writing is that it isn’t all angst and sex (and that’s some good book sex). She can write playful and fun. The banter between characters is funny as heck and you can envision people (if not yourself) shooting the breeze like her characters. There were numerous times, I found myself not just giggling but full on laughing till my side hurt just visualizing a scene she wrote about. Heinzer’s characters are real and her story is more than a rock story. It’s about family, love, second chances, and moving forward. If you haven’t put this on your TBR, you need to and if it’s on your TBR bump it up cuz it’s coming to ya June 18th!!! D 4/5
Before I begin a serious review- can we just take a minute and OGLE that cover? Hello, lickable abs! Whew! It's hot in here.
This is the second book in the Blessed Tragedy series, but this one is from Colton's point of view. I love books in a series, where we get the male POV- provided it's done correctly. And I felt HB did a great job with this novel, because we got to see so much more of Colton!
The novel starts out with the band meeting Rain for the first time. She's nervous, but one of the things Colton notices right off the bat is that she's feisty and not going to take crap from anyone. Colton is attracted to her right away and senses that something deeper lies beneath the tough rocker chick exterior.
"When I was younger, my mom called me a fixer. I always found the broken kids, befriended them and then tried to fix their problems. In some ways, I think I saw something in her that first day that made me acutely aware that she was very, very broken on the inside." (pg. 7, ARC copy)
For five years, Colton has been in the 'friend zone' with Rain. She slowly opens herself up to him, talking about her drug addiction, as well as her family life. To the band, she is Rain, a force to be reckoned with, a badass rocker. To her family, she is Maddie, the girl raised with older brothers and expected to act like a girl and not certainly not chase after some crazy dream of being a rock star.
Colton has been able to push aside his feelings for Rain and be a true friend to her. He watches out for her and wants to protect her from the bad things in the world. However, she refuses to date a fellow band member because she understands the repercussions if it ends badly.
This in turn leads Colton to Tanya, who is merely a means to an end. He hates himself for turning to her and feels like he's cheating on Rain every time, even though he knows she won't give him a chance. I do feel bad for him, and I hate that he used Tanya (because she is, as he quotes, a "pretentious bitch".) Rain certainly knew what he was doing, as he comes in smelling of women's perfume, and I think her anger stems more from just being upset that he was late. Rain is all business when it comes to the band, but I think deep down it bothers her on a personal level too.
There were so many points in this book where I wanted to throttle Rain for being so stupid when it came to Colton. He is crazy about her and willing to do anything for her and yet she still holds him at arm's length. I understand that she's had to deal with quite a bit in the past, but girl. Come onnnn! She is stubborn and guarded and a lot more fragile than any see.
The turning point really hits when tragedy strikes Rain's family. Colton proves himself so many times over that he is worth taking a risk for and that he is willing to move heaven and earth for her. I will say this: he has the willpower of a God. He sleeps in the same bed as her, they cuddle, they do everything other couples do, save for the sex. How. Does. That. Happen?! Props, Colton Bradford. Mad props for not trying to ravish the girl time and time again.
"Don't you get it? I do want to be here. I want to be here for you. I hate that you're hurting. I want to be the person you turn to when you're sad. I want to be the person you scream at when you're upset. That is why I want to be here." (pg. 69, ARC copy)
When she finally lets her walls down and lets him in... Hallelujah!
However, things are not so simple, as Rain and Colton realize. Their relationship and trust in one another will be put to the test and some things can not so easily be fixed with apologies. Rain's trust has to be earned and that is one of her biggest things. She doesn't want to be lied to or manipulated by anyone. I won't lie- sometimes I thought her to be a bit extreme in her antics, but I guess that's just the way she is. Still, I found myself angry and irritated with her more than actually liking her in this book.
As for our side characters, we've got some great ones. As I said, Tanya, the band's manager, is horrible. Besides the fact that Colton used her to get over Rain- she's controlling, manipulative, and just a wicked witch who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. Jon and Travis, who make up the other part of Blessed Tragedy, are hilarious. I loved reading scenes with them, and watch them pick on and torment Colton endlessly. They rag on him time and time again about his willingness to wait for Rain and take things slow with her. And there's one scene, involving all of them that had me howling in laughter.
Overall, as someone who loves music, I don't read nearly enough books about bands! I loved reading this one and getting into Colton's head and seeing just how far he'd go for the girl he loves and has loved for years.
*Received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review*
As crazy as it might sound, I felt a connection to Rain from the moment she walked into Travis' apartment five years ago as a broken and scared girl who didn't rust anyone. Before I even know her name, I wanted to protect her, make her feel safe, and teach her how to open up to people again.
In Blessed Tragedy Colton initially seemed perfectly sweet, attentive, and devoted to Rain. I actually got angry at Rain at times for how she put him off and how she treated him. But in Blessed Fate, we get to see Colton's point of view and more things that were going on behind the scenes. He had secrets and was not always making good choices for him or Rain. And one of those big secrets could ruin him, her, and the band. But for the most part Colton was really devoted to Rain and he had loved her for a long time. In this book, we get the earlier story, different scenes that were not part of the first book, and more of their ending. So it is not just the same exact book in Colton's point of view. I actually felt more connected to the story in his point of view than in Rain's. Maybe since he appeared to be the more emotional of the two at times.
Rain is the tough lead singer of Blessed Tragedy. They boys in the band have been her family for years as her relationship with her own had deteriorated. Her past was painful and she had made it through some tough times before joining the band. But when a real tragedy strikes the core of her family, it opens up new doors for reconciliation and understanding. And her band family and Colton are right there with her to back her up just as they do on stage. Colton has loved her for years but has been placed in the friend zone by Rain.
"Don't you get it? I do want to be here. I want to be here for you. I hate that you're hurting. I want to be the person you turn to when you're sad. I want to be the person you scream at when you're upset. That is why I wanted to be here. But right now I feel like have to be so f***ing careful to not touch you in a certain way, to not get too close. That's what's killing me."
Colton and Rain were so good at communicating as best friends that they could do so without even needing to speak. But once Colton finally convinced her to try to begin a real relationship, their communication skills just went completely off kilter. Physically they could relate without a problem, but verbally it all went downhill. It was a roller coaster of bad choices, misunderstandings, jealousy, and saying the wrong things. Colton went from the guy who could do not wrong to the one that screwed everything up repeatedly. His past mistakes come back to bite them and he succeeded in either hurting, pissing her off, or pushing her away several times. Their easy going relationship became anything but. The band did not always help the situation either and finally it all came crashing down.
"No matter what, you’ll always be my storm cloud. Last night just happened to be closer to a hurricane than a thunderstorm."
If trust is questioned, it is hard to feel secure and once that is gone is there a way to get it all back and start over?
I went back and forth on who I was most irritated with at any given time. Both Colton and Rain made me want to shake them and lock them in a room. But for some reason, I felt more sympathy for Rain in this book than I did in her book. Colton really did manage to fall from grace. But he was not going to go down without a fight especially after waiting for her for so many years. We got to see what played into his thought processes both sober and not. We see his love, passion, fear, insecurity, and need to have Rain in his life. This book allowed us to see his secrets, his plans behind the scenes, and how he worked to get it all back. And I really did love Colton. He might have been misguided, made dumb mistakes, and stuck his foot in his mouth on more than one occasion but his heart was in the right place and he really did love Rain.
"She loves you. You love her. You're just both to caught up in your s**t to see it."~Jared
I love the other band members in this series: Jon, Travis, and new comer Jared add fun and support to this couple and are also integral to the story. I think they deserve their own books in this series. And I really liked Rain's brothers as well. This book made me laugh, mad, frustrated, swoony, and happy all at different times. This series has friendship, love, second chances, and family as the core of the stories and the rock aspect is just the background.
Thanks to HB Heinzer for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
As if Blessed Tragedy wasn’t awesome enough, Blessed Fate and Colton exceeded my expectations. Everything was great and did not appear to repeat everything from the first book. Seeing things from Colton’s eyes just reiterated what a truly nice and genuine sweetheart he is. Granted, he may be a bad-boy rocker but that does not diminish his love for Rain. Colton will do anything for Rain and he really goes out of his way to prove that to her. Through all her pain he never once takes advantage of her and though the sexual tension is off the charts, Colton has some insane willpower to prolong the inevitable.
What I Didn’t Like So I didn’t very much like the reemergence of that bitch Tanya, AKA manger/slut. It was disheartening to watch Colton succumb to her in the beginning as a way to avoid his affection for Rain. But once her mother passes Rain and Colton’s relationship shifts and happy times are to come.
From book one I got more of an impression that the Rain and Colton had discussed being more than friends but from Colton’s POV it doesn’t seem like they’d really crossed the road before. But luckily for him, he’s brave and ballsy and a little arguing won’t stop him.
What I Loved Seeing Jon again, the big brother of the band who looks out for everyone even when he’s drunk himself.
OMG finally seeing the initial Rain-Colton intro was just what was missing from book #1. So exciting, especially seeing the fearless Rain, before she found her surrogate family in the band. It was the best way to start the book, especially as it truly shows how Colton’s felt from the get-go.
“Rain Maxwell could be wearing a potato sack covered in cow manure and it wouldn’t change the way I felt about her.” - Colton
Seeing Colton learn Rain’s idiosyncrasies and his way of ‘dealing’ with her. She continues to surprise him and he just falls more and more. Colton really tries to know Rain and not just to get into her pants. He wants to know her as a friend, band mate and he hopes someday lover…
How Colton sees Rain: Feisty, Stubborn, Brazen
Colton somehow knows just how to deal with Rain’s family. He may not approve of how they all behaved but for Rain, he tries to mend some broken fences and actually helps more than he knows with helping her deal and her family accept her.
I remember in Blessed Tragedy how Rain had herself pretty convinced that hooking up with Colton would be wrong and tarnish their friendship. Well seeing things from Colton’s POV just proved how little chance she had. No one could deny him and his charm.
When Rain gets the phone call about her mom, it’s like Colton steps right in and does any and everything he could to help. AWWWW.
Overall There’s not much that I didn’t like in Blessed Fate and what was there was so minor it barely mattered, Tanya for example. I definitely recommend this. If you read and loved Blessed Tragedy you definitely want toread this and see things through Colton’s eyes. Don’t be fooled either because this is not a repeat of everything from book 1, the timelines are stretched and even the few scenes that are repeated are viewed so differently coming from Colton that it really is a whole new story. In case you haven’t realized yet, I LOVED IT and you should read it NOW.. The End.
I wasn't sure what to expect of Blessed Fate as it is only my second time reading a book that is set during the exact same time as the first one, but told from a different characters point of view, but let me tell you I was not disappointed! I liked Colton most times during the first book, but there was a couple times that I just wanted to give him a good punch in the arm and tell him to smarten up lol, but reading this has opened my eyes to what he was thinking during those times, and it made me understand him a whole lot more.
Blessed Fate is about the lives of Colton and Raine, members of the group Blessed Tragedy, who are best friends. At the beginning of the book we learn that Raine's mother has been diagnosed with cancer, and Colton helps her try and deal with this, he wants her to go home and spend some time with her and the family, however, after emailing back and forth with her dad, she decides that it does not sound that urgent, so she chooses to stay out on tour as her dad said that this was her mother's wish.
Colton has had feelings for Raine for years, and he has asked her out to dinner before, but she turned him down as she has a "no dating band members" rule. When everything comes up with her mother, they seem to grow even closer, and he takes his chances again, but again he is denied as she is dealing with too much at the moment to think about anything like that.
As it turns out, they decide to go for it and become a couple. This does not sit well with some people and the author really knows how to write the jealous girl part, she drove me crazy. I understand that Colton had chose in the past to have a physical relationship with her, but he had never lead her to believe that it was anything more, and he knew that it was a mistake on his end. This is a part of the story that we see follow through the remainder of the book, and it adds some twists that were really fun to read.
I think one of my favourite aspects of this book was seeing everything so differently from Colton's point of view, with both Blessed Tragedy and Blessed Fate, we see the same story line, but it almost plays out like two completely separate story lines as there is such a difference as far as how each character views a situation, and how they react to it. I also really liked the romance with Colton and Raine throughout, it is not perfect, and each of them screw up at some point, and have their issues, but in reality who doesn't right? I liked it because it was so real, there was no insta-love happily-ever-after, this was definitely something that they had to work at, and grow with each other, and learn how to fit that other person in their lives as both of them have been single for so long that it is a drastic change to have someone there all of a sudden.
I cannot say enough how much I have enjoyed reading about these characters, and all the other ones in the books as well. The band members are awesome, and I have grown to understand and like Raine's family as well. If you are someone who likes new adult, this is definitely a series that you need to check out, it has drama, comedy, family issues, and romance all wrapped up in to one! Oh, and don't forget about the aspect the awesome band on the way to being rock stars. I would give this one a 5/5, check it out if you have not already!
What do I love about Colt? The answer to that is simple…what is there not to love? He isn’t your ordinary, groupie banging rock star for one. Since the first day he laid eyes on Rain, he’s been addicted to her. Being the best friend and shoulder to cry on, through good times and bad; all the while his heart is breaking for the love he can’t freely give to her. Rain has put these “friendship only” boundaries up, and he can’t seem to break them down. I mean we all have to feel for the guy, he’s been sharing a bed with her for some time now, and not getting any further than a friendly hug here and there. That’s bound to make the strongest man break at some point, right?
Told in Colt’s POV, we get to delve deeper into his mind, and what an explosion that is! I loved it…the guy is so much more than what people see on the outside. He’s stubborn, passionate, sexy as hell, and pretty damn hysterical at times too! He goes to some great lengths to show Rain just how much she means to him. He has a few WTF moments, but overall, I think he totally rocks the romance factor.
Rain is just as stubborn as Colt, knowing how she truly feels about him, but afraid to take that next step. On top of that, she’s dealing with some painful family issues, ones that could either heal her or destroy her completely. On the outside, she’s this badass rocker chick; but on the inside, she’s just a small town girl that wants to be accepted by her family.
It’s a tough road ahead for both of them, but when your heart is on the line, you fight with all you have to make it work. Colt and Rain are the epitome of rock and roll romance, and I’m rooting for them all the way! They should also thank there lucky stars they have a kick butt band family that always has their backs…Jon and Travis are freaking badass!
Fave quote…”I watched her until the chorus, when I joined in. I made no attempt to mask the emotion on my face as I sang directly to her, trying to sear the knowledge that I would always be there for her deep in her soul. She looked over at me and, for the first time, I could swear I saw a glimmer of passion in her eyes.”…(Colt)…No words to describe the passion in Colt’s heart for Rain…freaking epic people!
I give Blessed Fate 5 stars…rock and roll romance at it’s finest!
”No matter what, you’ll always be my storm cloud. Last night just happened to be closer to a hurricane than a thunderstorm.”
Book 2 in this series was everything I didn’t know I wanted and needed!! It grabbed my heart and consumed me, it filled in any little cracks book 1 had me questioning and I fell head over heals in love with Colton. But what I really loved was I built a deeper connection with the other band members and I loved seeing the family bond they truly had. Seriously I am in deep with Blessed Tragedy to the point I would totally sport the T-shirt and scream their AWESOMENESS!!!
”I didn’t know how it could be that each kiss got hotter, but I wasn’t about to complain.”
I thought the first book was HOT and it gave me butterflies and made me heart beat just a little faster. But this book O.M.G. this book was something else entirely!! This book was intense, it was emotional and it wasn’t butterflies in my stomach it was a whole darn zoo.
In a twisted way, it worked.
This book truly worked and it is the perfect addition to Colton and Rain’s story! It also left me wanting more stories from Blessed Tragedy and I can’t wait to see what H.B. gives us next.
”So many things I wish I could say, So many things I wish you knew….”
Blessed Fate is a Blessed book because after reading Blessed Tragedy I needed more. I needed more of of the guys and more of Colton. He put himself out on the line for Rain and he never regretted it. Being in a band is hard but being the only girl in the band well that is just down right crazy! But Rain did it and she is doing what she loves the most.
I Blessed Fate we get Colton's POV and man oh man what a point of view it is! I have to say H.B. can write a story like no one's business and when she tells it from Colton's POV I just about died. I never stopped to think about how he was feeling in all of this. Guys keep things to themselves but Colton laid his heart out for Rain in the hopes she would snatch it up and keep it. But Colton also realizes that Rain has so much going on and so much she keeps to herself.
Rain has always said she follows rules and one of her rules is no dating a band mate. But what happens when your heart keeps leading you back to one of your band mates? Rain will soon find out the depths of Colton's love when tragedy strikes her again and he is determined to be there for her no matter what.
The question remains will Rain let Colton in or will she push him away?
Again...another great book from H.B. Heinzer. The only complaint I have is buying the same book twice. I know it's a huge thing right now for authors to do, but I'm just not a huge fan of it. That being said the book was still very well written and gave us a look at Colton's side and how much he truly loved Rain:))
I'm really glad that Colton was able to get his own book! It's cool to read a whole book of one POV and then read the other character's POV! This story had the same major events as the other book but It also had alot of different events as well! I really enjoyed Blessed Tragedy as well as Blessed Fate!
Colton! :) enough said.. I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't a huge fan of the cussing but I think that might be my only complaint. I received a ARC for blessed fate and will be posting a full review on my blog @ http://two-tall-tales.blogspot.com (6/29)
"I'll take someday. I'll take whatever I can get with you." I brushed my lips against her and rolled her body so her back pressed into my chest. In Blessed Tragedy (my review), we met Rain, the lead singer of a rock band, and learned her story. In Blessed Fate, we get to read about Rain's other half, Colton. This is HIS story and what a story it is! There were times when Rain's narration became too much for me with all the emotion she was dealing with (being Maddie at home, Rain on the road, her past). If I liked Colton in the first book, I loved him here. He filled in the holes from Rain's story and we gained the additional male perspective to offset Rain's version.
"As crazy as it might sound, I felt a connection to Rain from the moment she walked into Travis' apartment five years ago as a broken and scared girl who didn't trust anyone. Before I even knew her name, I wanted to protect her, make her feel safe, and teach her how to open up to people again." Colton is a great guy. Yes, he's flawed. He drinks too much. Flies off the handle at times. Can be such a guy guy. But no one can say he doesn't have a huge heart and loves Rain unconditionally. He can't help his need to "fix" this broken young woman. He fell for her when she first walked in to meet the band. When he deals with Tanya during their trysts and her eventual blackmail, his thoughts still focus on how Rain will feel when she finds out. His love is selfless, his attraction undeniable, their chemistry touching and combustible (what a heady combination!) and his patience admirable. Rain was incredibly headstrong, naive when it came to understanding the depths of his emotion for her, and dedicated in her desire to keep the band her top priority and her recovery clean. As for her heart, who can resist Colton?
"By the time she finished telling me every messed up detail of her life from birth to nineteen, she started to drift off to sleep on my lap. I took her to her bedroom, laid her down and kissed her forehead before turning to leave. If I had it bad for her before then, I knew I was done for that night. She was burning up with a fever, her face red and puffy from her cold, and she was still the most beautiful woman in the world to me." H.B. Heinzer not only gives us the wrenching, emotional love story of Colton and Rain, she gives us the story of the band. Each character--from band mates Jon, Matt, Travis and the addition of Jared later on, besides Colton and Rain, every member is a part of this story (and the first). Including the other guys gives us a fuller perspective and there were moments when they made me laugh or smile. The author paints a realistic portrayal of life on the road and the transitions involved with such dynamic personalities.
I thought I knew the story behind Blessed Tragedy, but that was only the first book. Blessed Fate gives us the complete picture of a family of musicians, the special bond they share, the troubles they face, and the everlasting love between one determined guitarist and troubled singer. Recommended. (http://www.readergirlsblog.com/2013/0...)
Blessed Fate is the story of Colton & Rain but told from Colton's POV ~ If you haven't read the first book Blessed Tragedy then I suggest you read it as it's told from Rain's POV and I can't give away too much in my review without giving away the original story ~ I can say this when I had this book in my hand I was
Colton ~ Oh I love Colton and I was super excited to see this story unfold from his perception! It opens up with how Rain was introduced to the rest of the band and how a friendship between the two develops into intense feelings for one of the parties with the other adhering to the old standby ~ not getting involved with anyone from the band! Colton has a little thing going on in the first part of the book that had me
I was totally thinking Why? Oh Why? and with HER ~ That biatch deserved to be
I just wanted to tell this woman
As the book progresses Colton holds steadfast and shows he is continually there to support Rain. When tragedy strikes the band steps in and is there to support Rain. When FINALLY the chance to acknowledge something more is given and both parties are on the same page I
there was definitely chemistry between the two and it was totally - epic, oh yes I was
but when Colton makes a big mistake taking the word, um pictures, from another I just
That isn't what really got me though~ Colton really had me
and totally
when he they returned from tour and something happened and he let the "seeds" of doubt be planted instead of talking it out. My heart went out to Rain in both books! I ached for her but in the end by the very end I was totally
If you are looking for a solid 5 ++ star Rock Star Romance series then Blessed Tragedy is the series for you! I felt there was immense growth between the first book and the second ~ both were awesome but for some reason this one is my FAVORITE! Totally worth the read ~ This is had some hot roll in the sheets parts but it was more than that for me it was Colton's love that made me wish at times I was Rain!!!!!!!
One of the things I loved about this book was even though it's book two in the Blessed Tragedy series, you don't need to read the first book in order to enjoy this story. I enjoyed the book enough that I will go back to read the first book however it's not something you need to read prior to this book.
In this story we meet Colton Bradford. The second Maddie aka Rain Maxwell walks through that door it was love at first sight and Colt wanted to make her his own. Rain has a set of rules that she follows the biggest of which is not never fall for a fellow band member so she tries her hardest to stay away from him lasting five years in the band all the while ignoring Colt's advances toward her and becoming best friends. Colt over the years has grown to love Rain and will do anything to protect the girl he considers his best friend. He hasn't had a relationship in the five years Rain has been a member of the band but being a man he's had temptations and he handles those temptations by making the mistake of taking their manager to bed or more than one occasion Tanya. Tanya I hate right from the start she'll do anything to get her claws into Colt even taking pictures of him while they are together and when he's leaving her hotel room to use against him.
When tragedy strikes Rain she leans on the only family she feels she has, her band. Colt sees his chance to be with Rain when her walls begin to crumble and she starts to let him in. From here starts the battle for Rain to hold on to who she is and what she wants out of her life. She finds out her family never hated her and that Colt truly is in love with him. But her band mates fear that Rain will resort back to her drug abuse even though she's been clean for years now when she says that she'll do anything to make the pain go away.
This book was an excellent story about Rain learning to deal with her issues, Colt fighting for the woman he loves and his band, and dealing with an ex-lover who will do anything to make Colt hers. I loved this book and cannot wait to read more books in the future by this author and am hoping to see possibly other books in the future about the other two band members Jon and Travis, I give this book 4 stars since it was a great story and well written!
So Blessed Fate is one of those books that was originally in female POV (in Blessed Tragedy), and now has this book in the male's POV. Usually I'd have read the first book, THEN this book (like with Walking Disaster!), but this time I didn't. And I must say, H.B. Heinzer did a great job of writing this book to make a reader feel as if, even though they didn't read book 1, they know and understand what's going on.
I liked this book. I really, really did. I ALMOST loved it, but not quite. It was well written, held my attention, and made me happy. Ahhh, happiness.
Character Rundown: Rain: Dare I say that I don't see what's so great about her? I just don't. Maybe I would have if I had read the first book first, but...meh. She just seemed mean most of the time. And stubborn. An I just didn't like her.
Colton: Now, Colt...I LOVED this boy. He was so sweet. The only thing I didn't like about him was his little...fling...with you-know-who. (No. Not Rain. Read the book and you'll know who.) He didn't always do the right thing, but he DID always have the right intentions and that made me happy.
Plot. I was surprised by how much happened in the first half of the book. It was good, though, it didn't give me any time to get bored. The story started slowing around the second half, however, and was defnintely redeemed in the end. Overall, I did very much like the plot.
Colton & Rain. Colton almost made me like Rain. He definitely made me want to like her. So them together was great in the way of making Rain easier for me to deal with. I think these two are good for each other. Even though I do not like Rain and love Colton, I rooted for them, no doubt about it.
The ending. Well. Good job, H.B. Heinzer. ;)
Overall,Blessed Fate is a book that is not perfect, but is definitely entertaining to read and can make people (like me!) happy. A nice, solid, NA romance. WOOT!
I didn't think I could love Colton more, but I think that I might. Blessed Fate is a companion novel to Blessed Tragedy. It runs along the exact same time line but is told from Colton's POV.
Blessed Fate begins at the first meeting between Rain (Maddie) and Colton. It then jumps through a few moments that were important to Colton in their relationship. Then we get to see just why that bitch Tanya hated Rain SO much (how stupid are you Colton!?). Then begins the fateful tour that brought Colton and Rain together.
When Rain's mom died we were able to see how hard it was for Colton to let her go without him. It sucked. But we also got to his thought process about telling her about his dad, getting his piercing, and everything in between. I had kind of hated him when he didn't believe her about the drugs even her apartment was ransacked, but seeing it from his side made it better.
I love love love getting alternate POVs. Knowing what was going on with the other person in a book I've already read, AH -MAZE -ING! So thank you H.B., for that! I definitely wanted to slap Colton for Tanya, so dumb! But, for the most part I just really loved him, well except when he jumped to conclusions about those pictures. I loved how much he's only thought of Maddie when making decisions. I saw glad he wasn't the stereotypical rocker, I probably would have quit reading if he were.
Blessed Fate was a 4.5 star read for me. It was great! It could be read as a stands alone if you really wanted, it's not a cliffhanger and has an HEA. I would definitely suggest reading both though, and starting with Blessed Tragedy. Thanks H.B. Heinzer for this alternative POV! I wish more authors would do them!
First of all I have to say that I was a little mad at myself that I didn't realize Blessed Fate was the second book in the Blessed Tragedy series.... HOWEVER, I will say that even though I saw numerous people on Goodreads saying you really needed to read Blessed Tragedy first I have to disagree. I'm not typically a fan of same story but different POV and lets just say that I really enjoyed Colton's POV!!! I didn't feel like I needed Rain's thoughts in this story because of the way HB Heinzer tells it. I could still feel her emotions through Colt's words and I could sympathize with her as well as understand why she did and said some of the things that happened.
Falling for a girl and knowing that nothing will probably ever come of it, is obviously hard. But Colt did not disappoint. I'm sure there will people out there that hate how he tried to "forget" Rain... but in all reality can you blame the guy? I couldn't and the funny thing is that even though I'm usually that reader who gets all mad at the hero for those things I couldn't help but understand them better and I think a lot of that was because I saw it all through his eyes. His love for Rain was strong and true and even though he made a lot of stupid decisions his love for her seemed to grow day by day.
Blessed Fate was a great read... it was a little more telling instead of feeling but HB Heinzer definitely pulled off the male POV which is something that a lot of authors struggle with! I'm looking forward to hopefully reading the other guys books.
I really did enjoy this story. I loved getting to know the band members, they were all likable, even Jon who was a little bossy at times. Although there wasn't much character development throughout the story, I still connected with Rain, feeling her pain and devastation, as well as Colton's anguish and hopelessness.
Colt was an absolute sweetheart. He was deeply in love with Rain, a little obsessive at times, but he was a genuinely good guy. Although he made his fair share of mistakes, err Tanya, I couldn't help falling for him. It was wonderful to see a guy so devoted to his girl. He'd do just about anything for her, and when he messed up it killed him to have to see the pain he caused her. He also wasn't afraid to apologize!!
I'd love to get my hands on book one, as I'd really like to read this story from Rain's POV. She was a little high-strung and went off on a tangent, so it would be interesting to see exactly what she was thinking or feeling at certain times.
There were a few sleazeball characters in this book. Tanya, yes, Colt's mistake! That woman deserved so much more than the tongue lashing she got. She was despicable. Then there was Garrett. I know Maddie could vouch for him, but I just had a very uneasy feeling whenever he appeared. I'm still convinced his motives were not entirely pure, even after he and Colt had their one-on-one.
Overall this was a quick, fun read. The serious and sad moments made the characters more real and believable, and gave the story a great emotional twist.
A strong 4 STARS!!!! What can I say? Blessed Fate is every bit as awesome as Blessed Tragedy. If you haven’t already seen my review for Blessed Tragedy, check it out HERE. Blessed Fate is giving you the same story as Blessed Tragedy, but from Colton’s perspective this time. If you liked Blessed Tragedy, you are sure to like Blessed Fate! Heinzer nailed the story from Colton’s view. One thing that I really enjoyed was that you don’t just learn more about Colton; you learn more about Maddie/Rain, too. This book actually starts with Travis’ introduction of Rain to their group. You learn what kind of person Rain was when she first hooked up with Blessed Tragedy. You also get a very ugly side to the whole story involving Tanya. It’ll leave you feeling a little sick to your stomach reading about Colton’s involvement. I still couldn’t help but love him, though! You also get insight into his actions from when Rain was arrested, and I wasn’t so mad at him concerning that whole ordeal anymore. I still wish he would have acted differently with his initial reaction. Heinzer is definitely one of my new faves! Matter of fact I just finished Bent. You should pick it up, too, if you haven’t already! I’ll have a review coming soon for it. *I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.*
I like seeing the other POV, but I really thought there would be more. About the only thing I can think of that was in here, that wasn't in book one, was that Colton consulted with his normal piercing guy before letting a stranger give him a PA.
The books not bad...and as a stand alone, I'd give it 3 stars. But it brought nothing new to the table. I don't like or dislike Colton more. I don't understand any characters more. It didn't really bring anything more to the table than what was already out there.
I wanted Colton's back story. How he grew up, why he is the way he is. Maybe more info on WHY he fell for Rain. Why he's ready to settle down at such a young age for a rock star. We already knew he had an absent father. Not much more was said in this book about it either. What makes Colton Colton? Rain I guess, because he doesn't seem to have another thought in his head.
What can I say? Give me a book with a rock band in the center of it and I am sold. This book tells the story of Colton and Rain from Coltons POV and it wa great to see how his love for his friend developed and how it grew stronger yet we alos see how he is not perfect when he sleeps with Tanya. And that girl is just bleh. I think I hated her from the start and the things she did were seriously messed up. Rain is also messed up, dealing with tragedy and really growing up will do that to you, but she finally admits to herself that she loves her best friend. The band was awesome, I loved their banter and their support, sometimes I would laugh out loud to the things that came out of their mouth. And the hotness factor in this book is skyhigh. A great summer read.
I received an ARC of this book from the author. While Blessed Tragedy is written from Rain’s point of view, Blessed Fate (Book 2) is written from Colton’s perspective. Honestly, when I was finished reading Book 1, I was really interested in hearing Colton’s side of the story. I’m here to tell you HB Heinzer didn’t disappoint. Colton is a rocker with a heart of gold, even when his mouth is saying things his heart doesn’t believe.
The characters are so believable and easy to relate to. Even with the main couple being Colton and Rain, there is a lot of interaction between the band mates. I like the banter between Jon and Colton, as well as the fact that Jared finds his own witty voice towards the end of the book.
I think I an going to listen to my inner dialogue and stop reading books that are the same as the original, but told in the other main character's voice. While I really liked Colten in Blessed Tragedy, this book did not do much in building up his character, it actually had the opposite effect for me. I would much prefer to have a single book with alternating POV than this rehashing of a story I know. If you want me to know what both the lead characters are doing in a book, give it to me all at once, please!
Okay book, got tired of Jon asking Colton if he had a vagina yet. Also, for how often we heard Colton was raised by women and taught to respect them, I thought he mishandled things too badly when he did mess up.
I get worried when I read a book from the males pov after reading the original from the females thinking its just going to repeat the story I already know - never happens I swear I have to stop thinking like this. This book was almost a whole new story! Of course it touches on the same events but from a completely different view. There was so much I didn't know about Colton and Maddie's relationship. I had know idea what was going on with Tanya that it was kind of a shock to me. Colton did a lot for Maddie that we didn't get to see in "Blessed Tragedy" . I felt for Colton in some situations that I was pissed off at him for in "Blessed Tragedy". Some hot sex scenes -nothing too detailed or raunchy. Fabulous ending.
I didn't think I could love Blessed Tragedy any more but with Blessed Fate I fell in love with Colton all over again !! I loved hearing his POV ! It seemed at times to be like Rain's side but the depth sometimes of how he would say words and acted towards Rain and how he would take care of her was very very heart felt. In Florida in his Dad's house, on tour after hearing of her Mom's death and OMG the 3 proposal's...Thank God she kept saying No so he could show her how much she ment to him !! They are sole mates !! LOVED IT !!
Absolutely amazing. I Loved Blessed Tragedy sooo very much. I am thinking acually 6 or 7 stars because it was just so wonderful, so I was super thrilled to get to basically experience it again, but through Colton's eyes. I would have to say, this is probably one of my favorite books I have read where they do the alternate POV story. Colt and Rain make such a perfect pair and HB Heinzer made a beautiful story for them.
I have just finished reading this book and loved it more then Blessed Tragedy. I think Colton's view of he events was better than Rain/Maddie. It is interesting to read them one after another to see why things went the way they did and to see both points of view. I think the story was good but made much more sense in this book then the other because more background information is reveled that was kind of confusing in Blessed Tragedy. If reading these books, make sure you read them both.
Blessed Fate is a perfect ending to Colton and Rain's story. There are few books I have found that the sequel is as good as the first but this is one of those rare ones. This is Colton's point of view and it's so great to see his side of things. You see the raw emotions and learn his secrets. But, those secrets threaten to destroy him and Rain. They fight for each other and know what they must do to save their future. This is a must read!!
