I like reading about military men since my dad is in the army plus they are hot. Cade is a Navy SEAL but ever since one of his friends died, he is aimless, then his father falls ill and he goes home for his grandma. To the heroine, the hero was always her hero, rescuing her from her klutziness, plus he is also her fantasy. She comes from the rich but is not wealthy, so doesn't belong.
The book was just the right mix of sexiness, emotion and fun. The heroine goes all out to seduce the hero, a siren sometimes, then vulnerable later. The hero well, he never stood a chance in front of the awesome heroine. I loved how she tried to rescue him later and the apology plus the epilogue.
Wealthy, gorgeous and a Navy SEAL to boot, Cade Sullivan, has always been the heartthrob of his small town. Cute, klutzy and accident prone, Eden Gillespie, is the town’s social outcast. Home on leave, Cade finds himself coming to Eden’s rescue once again, only this time Eden has definite plans for the local hero and will settle for nothing less than his complete surrender …
Despite the military hero, this not romantic suspense but straight contemporary romance.
Whereas Blake and Alexia’s story in A SEALs Seduction is sensual and steamy, Cade and Eden’s romance is sweet and steady. Their friends to lovers relationship builds slowly from mutual attraction to an intense emotional connection and love. It is fun watching Cade as he realizes that the adorable girl-next-door is actually a gorgeous and desirable woman.
Eden is an endearing mix of vulnerability and strength as she copes with the snide gossip and harsh jokes of her so-called friends and neighbors. Despite her social awkwardness, Eden is intelligent and determined so once she sets her sights on Cade, the man doesn’t stand a chance.
All in all, Tawny Weber’s series is light and fun with great characters and sweet stories. Looking forward to the next one.
A Seal's Surrender by Tawny Weber is a 2013 Harlequin publication.
Cade is a SEAL and most fathers would be bursting with pride. But, not Mr. Sullivan, Cade's father who has never forgiven Cade for walking away from the family business to join the military. Now the old man has had a heart attack and Cade is back home.
Eden is the girl next door type, a girl that lives surrounded by the affluent, while she isn't. Her love life is stagnant and her best friend is hoping to help her out of her slump... when lo and behold Cade Sullivan returns home. Cade was a little older than Eden and when they were younger, Eden had a massive crush on Cade. But, Cade was sought after by every female in town, hoping to trap the rich good looking guy for their own. It was so bad, a club was actually formed with only select few members that could claim they had managed to spend quality time with Cade, giving themselves the name “The Cade-ettes” Eden wasn't even on his radar... until he finds himself once more rescuing the accident prone Eden as she climbs up a tree trying to rescue a cat. Something was different about the cute but klutzy girl next door...
I love Eden's occupation as a vet, and of course how can you not love SEALS. Cade's love and respect for his grandmother is heartwarming and Catherine made a great secondary character.
Eden's financial woes stem from a flaky mother and if that weren't enough, is she is constantly the brunt of jokes and pranks by the rich and ultra hot women of her community.
Cade's issues are little more serious as he had tried to avoid dealing with the death of a friend. So, as each one of them deals with life's problems they find themselves falling in love with each other, but before they can make go it , some very serious decisions will have to be made and they will need to be made for all the right reasons.
This sweet and saucy, girl next door and hot military hero romance was a fast and easy read. I enjoyed spending the afternoon with this great couple. This one gets 3 stars.
I think I picked this book up as a free download on Amazon a while back. Harlequin books are usually good for a decent read, and I've found over the last few years that I prefer their Blaze series over some of the others. There is a little more spice to the romance. That being said,
A SEAL's Surrender is the best Harlequin title I've read in a while.
There were a lot of things I liked about this book. First was it's two main characters, Cade and Eden. They grew up as neighbors, so there wasn't the need to invent a believable way for them to meet and get to know each other. The connection was already there, all they needed was a catalyst to get things moving in the right direction.
While I had a basic idea of how things would eventually unfold, the author a good job with keeping my interest. I love romance novels. They are just about all I read. However, I do have a slight pet peeve that occurs in way too many books within the genre and unfortunately this book had it as well. I hate when lies or miscommunication is what tears couples apart. It's a common trope, but one I despise. It makes the the characters seem immature and not truly ready for an adult relationship.
Even still, I enjoyed this book and will probably check out more of this author's work. There were a few editing issues, however they didn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the story.
I recommend this story for those who like romances that revolve around strong military heroes and happily ever afters.
I tried really hard to like this story and this couple but I just couldn't get past the burning question in the back of my mind...Why in the world would you want something/somebody so badly that everyone else has had already?! Eden's self esteem was pathetic. It took her until the very end of this story to realize she didn't need Cade, her mother or the town's approval. I don't think Weber did her homework too well on SEALs for this one. Some incorrect rank info and a slew of typos.
Terrific friends-to-lovers story. Cade and Eden grew up next door to each other. Cade is the only son of a wealthy family, handsome and athletic, and all the girls wanted him. Eden's family used to be rich, but they are comfortable now. She was the quiet, klutzy girl next door that always seemed to need rescuing. Cade was her hero, her crush, and the source of her fantasies, then and now.
As the story opens, Eden is celebrating her twenty-fifth birthday and making the same wish she makes every year - Cade and her together. Instead, she gets a notice from the bank that her flighty mother took out a loan against the house Eden bought from her (long story), and the bank is calling in the loan. She recently opened her vet practice but doesn't yet have the clientele to produce the money in a month. Instead, she steels herself to try to get the local country club set to use her for their vet services. An uphill battle, as she and they don't have the best relationships.
Meanwhile, Cade, who left town the day after graduation to join the Navy and escape his controlling father, became a Navy SEAL. He recently lost one of his best friends in the line of duty and is struggling with his grief. His uncle, a trainer, sees Cade's struggle and tries to help, but Cade refuses to accept what his uncle suggests. Before Cade can escape his uncle's presence, he receives word that his father has had a heart attack and he's needed at home.
I liked both Cade and Eden. She is intelligent, kind, and can laugh at herself. She is also somewhat insecure in that she always felt like she was on the outside looking in, never belonging. But she has no trouble going after what she wants when given the opportunity. Cade is a good man who knows what he wants and goes after it. He has a reputation with the ladies but never leads anyone on.
I enjoyed seeing the relationship develop between Cade and Eden. They have a long history as friends, especially with Eden's penchant for needing rescuing. But on this trip home, something changed. I loved seeing Eden once again stuck in a tree, with Cade coming along just as he's needed. This time, however, Cade sees Eden as more than the girl next door, and his sudden attraction to her freaks him out. I loved seeing Eden ask him out for a drink "to say thank you." His head tells him to say no, but he finds himself saying yes, with no idea what's in store for him. Seeing Eden step outside her comfort zone and put the moves on him was fun.
Over the next couple of weeks, they can't keep their hands off each other, but what they have is more than just physical. I loved seeing their connection grow as they spent time together. Several scenes had me laughing out loud. Cade's attention gains Eden the attention and acceptance she wants, but her ability and kindness make the biggest difference. Some terrific scenes of her with people and animals show her true self. Her biggest fear is losing her heart to Cade, which seems inevitable. Cade is shocked by how much he enjoys just spending time with Eden. He's always kept a distance between himself and the women he's with, but he can't do that with Eden. It gets more complicated when she sees past his flirty façade to the hurt and confusion he hides from everyone.
When a secret Cade has been keeping from Eden comes out, she feels hurt and betrayed. She thought they'd moved past the damsel in distress needing the big strong man stage. Learning that Cade is questioning his future sends Eden on her own rescue mission. But their lack of honest communication drives them apart, each thinking they know what is best for the other. I loved the epiphany that Eden had and what she did about it. The epilogue was terrific.
Tawny Weber gives readers everything they want! Heart thumping romance with a side order of family drama and a dollop of humor makes a perfect recipe or in this case a perfect Tawny Weber romance. I don’t know how she does it, but Ms. Weber creates stories with characters I relate to time and time again.
A Seal’s Surrender is a great nice-girl-next-door romance. Eden Gillespie has the charm, the smarts, and the quirky ability to always find herself in a pickle and in need of a strong sexy boy next door. But she’s tougher than she seems. And that is what I really liked about her. She knew when to ask for help and when to tackle a problem head on. Always the girl on the outside, Eden desperately wanted to be accepted, be considered of “them”-the ritzy country club girls that with a single word every one listened. But that wouldn't happen unless she finally made the Cade-ettes. One of the many girls known for sleeping with the town's sexiest boy she’s had a crush on since her school days. The one man she knew without a doubt was not and would not be interested in her. Her hero. Loved the dynamics of this attraction and how Eden’s personality alone had the bad-boy Navy SEAL seeing a future with her. The steamy sex was just an added bennie!
Lieutenant Commander Cade Sullivan had always kept a level head about him, never wanting to get tide down to any one woman, especially anyone in Ocean Point. The town he’d been trying to escape since joining the US Military straight out of high school. Back in town on leave for family business, Cade finds himself saving the girl next door once again, but from more than her usual twisted ankle tree climbing antics. This time he’ll have to go up against the one man he’s always butted heads with-his cold-hearted father-in order to save a woman he’s growing more fond of with each passing day.
A Seal's Surrender shined a light on how social influence in a small town or any sized town really can break or make a person. How gossip can turn a profit or just as easily take your dignity. I found this story line intriguing while we followed Cade and Eden's story to finding that ever present happily ever after always found in a Tawny Weber romance.
I’ve grown to love Ms. Weber’s flare for writing steamy romance with heart. I’ve placed her at the top of my must-read contemporary romance authors and look forward to her next release. Thankfully I never have to wait long!
(4.5 star top pick review written for Night Owl Reviews by Talina Perkins)
This is a fantastic story I read it in one stitting Eden is such a great heroine I was laughing with her antics and the animals the goat and dogs and cats and Cade is just so hunky and awesome. This is one very hot sensual story that will keep you turning the pages thank you Tawny for hours of reading pleasure you are an auto buy author for me love your stories thank you
Healing through rescue is not a totally unique idea but when Ms. Weber throws together a very clumsy but adorable lady with a hero who, despite the mental anguish he suffers, can’t seem to stop himself from coming to her rescue, readers are in for an entertaining treat.
Cade Sullivan has a lot of issues to work through in this story. Some of the angst is about the healing from the loss of his teammate but the other is about his place in his family and the town’s community at large. He’s got a bloodthirsty father with a heart that seems to be made of ice and it causes a special kind of conflict, the personal kind. The hero has a lot of juggling to do and his stress is high, until he finds a saucy, funny, sexy lady in a tree.
Eden has been crushing on Cade for what seems like forever. The author creates a sense of history and helps a reader understand why the heroine’s feelings are so strong and why she hasn’t done anything about it in the past. The past is what haunts her because small towns have long memories, and some small-minded people seem unable to grow up for just as long. Again, Ms. Weber showcases why she is so good at personal conflicts – she fleshes out her characters so they seem real to a reader. When a character you come to care for is hurt or sad, your emotions are affected. The author accomplished that in this book. I wanted Eden to finally take that chance and discover if her dreams meshed reality.
A reader will discover that there are a lot more bumps and tribulations before the happy ever after can be realized. Both characters find out that the differences between their fantasies and reality comes with some major concessions, adjustments and compromises of the misconceptions they both harbor. Ms. Weber had Eden starting to act the way a hurt and spastic heroine would act, then put on the brakes and presented a much different outcome than expected. I liked that and it made me like Eden’s character even more.
The family conflicts were a bit clichéd (Cade’s dad and Eden’s mom) but effective nonetheless.
This wouldn’t be a Blaze romance without some very steamy sex and the author had no problems delivering on that score. The scenes were peppered with emotional connections making their placement effective and necessary to the story.
A SEAL’s Surrender is a wonderful continuation of a back story arc that started with A SEAL’s Seduction – two men who lost a respected and loved teammate through the violence of war – and then presented these two strong men, broken in spirit, finding love, happiness, hope and the promise of a better future ahead. This was a nice, smoothly written enjoyable story worth taking the time to read. I had a great time watching them fall in love.
I was actually kinda pleasantly surprised considering this was (1) a freebie and (2) a Harlequin Romance...
I wouldn't consider this book to be full-length at only about 220 pages, but it was set up the way many authors do when writing novellas—where the hero and heroine have a back story in the past that the heroine "remembers" at times. It allows more NOW development in a shorter time, which is smart, and in this case, pretty well done.
I think my BIGGEST complaint was all the background characters. This story took place in a small town, where everyone knew everyone else and blah blah, and so there were a ton of minor characters, and I could never remember who was who. They just kept popping in and out and I didn't really care.
And then there was Janie. Ummmm.... who is she? I mean, from context, I can tell she's a "mean girl" in town, and I get that she's another girl who wants Cade, but.... like... Do she and Eden have a long-running rivalry from high school or... ? I dunno. She seemed random... like the author said, "Oh, I should probably have a bad guy in this book other than Cade's dad, so... let's see... I'll just throw one in right here!" So, I guess I understood why she was in the story from a writing standpoint, but I didn't understand WHY she was there. What was her motivation? Her issue with Eden? Did Cade turn her down at some point? Did she think her pedigree was so incredible that she was the only girl in town that "deserved" Cade? Or maybe that Cade was the only guy in town "worthy" of her?
Anyway, other than that, I really quite enjoyed the story. Someone mentioned in their review that all the Navy stuff was wrong. I read some of the vet stuff to my husband, and he said it wasn't terribly accurate either.... Just saying... Oh, and it's NOT erotica (like people are shelving it), in case that is worrying you about reading it...
I know this cover is well…..in my case, I find it to not be exactly a good selling argument. But you know what they say: Never judge a book by its cover. So I took that advice with this book.
So you guessed it, I wasn’t really expecting much from this book when I picked it and ended up being surprised by it. It was a sweet, nice read. Not very long and not mind blowingly good but good none the less. I really enjoyed reading it. The characters were so sweet and funny. Eden made me laugh by her clumsiness and quick wit. She was a ray of sun and I really liked her voice in the book.
“Who the hell was she to rip open the safeguards he’d built around his heart and force him to see what was inside?”
Cade…..Ahhhh Cade. I wish I were one of the Cade-ettes! ;) He does sound swoon worthy in the book. I liked that this book made him be more that a guy who wasn’t looking for anything study and ended up falling in love. All the emotional part about his feelings.
And the plot was nice to start with.
So if you’re looking for a nice, sweet, summer read that is worth more than our usual man-realises-he-wants-more-out-of-the-girl-than-a-good-time plot but that is not to complicated either, this book is the right one for you!! And I mean come on! He’s a SEAL for Christ’s sake!!!! ;)
Decent overall story, but the military stuff drove me nuts. Naval Captains don't earn their bars, they earn a bird. Captain's wear bars in the USAF, USMC, and USA, but not the USN. Also, how did Cade become an officer? He claims to have enlisted and gone through BMT with his two buddies, and that they were on a team together. Officers don't traditionally enlist first, they usually go through college first, then sign a contract as an officer into the military. I understand that he could have gone through college later and then become an officer, but for all 3 of the amigos to do that would be unusual. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there are 3 officers on 1 SEAL team. I'm thinking it's more likely that you have 1 officer commanding a team of enlisted. So having the 3 amigos on 1 team doesn't make sense. All of these things may sound really trivial to most readers, but they drove me absolutely bananas while reading this book. It's a shame, because the romance between Cade and Eden was good, and I appreciated all the humor. 3 stars for the love story and humor, minus 2 for the military frustration.
I personally enjoyed this story more than the first one, one of the facts that Cade and Eden have a bit of a history. Eden has always had a thing for Cade, but not only is he older than she is, but he’s always seen her as the girl next door that he needs to save. Little does she know that after Cade accidentally saw her naked --one of the many times he rescued her-- he’s seen her as more than just the girl he always rescues.
The chemistry between these characters is amazing. The strength of Eden and her outlook on so many things that have happened in life is amazing. Where most others would just fold and give up, Eden, just looks for a solution to her problems. She’s definitely a fighter.
Cade has issues with his family, being back in the town where he grew up and his feelings for Eden. For a man who is always so in charge his insecurity and indecision at the beginning can be a bit of a frustration. The great thing about Cade though is his concern for his grandmother and Eden’s situation is so enduring.
At the end of it all, the changes and growth that both the characters make, really is all that you need to love this story.
Lieutenant Commander Cade Sullivan, Navy SEAL comes for a visit because his father had a heart attack or rather because his grandmother, Catherine asked him to come home.
Eden Gilespie, lives next door and while Cade has been away in the Navy being a hero, she has become a vet and bought her family home and opened her business in the converted barn to vet office. Cade has rescued Eden from one mess after another since they were children and they are friends.
This time is different and Eden offers more than friendship and Cade can't resist to surrender to her. A SEAL's Surrender ~ Uniformly Hot! is a great title for the relationship that develops between these two with a variety of issue and problems thrown at them for a fun and sexy hot SEAL story; one of my favorite types of stories because who can resist a hot military man?
3.5 Stars Contemporary Blaze Harlequin. Part of the Hot men in Uniform! Series. No fantasy required. Nice heat and chemistry with an interesting original story. Had some nice suspense.
Got to love those men in uniform! They are the real deal. Men with physical, mental, character strength honed through the fire of training and combat.
Blake = Very Hot Toned Muscled Male= Yum!
*Note: Reduced from excellent 4 stars to 3.5 stars as H&h thinking became a bit repetitive while dragging out toward the end. And very disappointed that the author did not adequately research the SEALs. SEALs earn bars for example not stars!
This storyline is simplistic in the extreme. Almost as if it were written for teens and not adults. The cover shows a man with black hair and a dark heavy beard shadow. When the hero is described as being 6'2", blonde and having green eyes. For me this caused a disconnect right off the bat. Someone, author, editor or publisher, thinks the average reader is too stupid to notice. That I find insulting. The characters are not well developed and much of the discourse comes across as unnecessary expect to flesh out the word count. I was very disappointed.
This is a great book penned by the talented Tawny Weber. She writes very intriguing characters who make you root for them through the whole book. Being a klutz myself I relate to Eden and need to be rescued, and found her rescuer Cade extremely handsome and sexy as hell., I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a hot and satisfying read!
Sweet read. Didn't find anyting exceptional though. Started out pretty humorous, I really liked the animals, as Eden the "h" was a veterinarian. The story started out on the steamy side but later on everything seemed to scream 'standard romance'. So only 3 STARS for me, sorry to say.
Good story line but had some issues with the military aspects. Seals have a different ranking than the references in this book gave. Hot and steamy and worth the read.
After the death of his SEAL buddy, Lieutenant Commander Cade Sullivan is unsure whether he wants to remain a SEAL. His uncle is a trainer with the SEAL’s and trying to talk Cade into becoming a trainer but Cade is unsure. He goes home when his father has a heart attack and meets up with Eden Gillespie, his neighbor who he is always having to be rescued. This time, she was in a tree rescuing a cat and her foot is stuck. After freeing her foot, they agree to meet at the local club. Eden has had a crush on Cade for years and now she is determined to seduce him.
A walk on the beach leads to a secluded spot and her fantasy comes true. What she doesn't know is that Cade has thought of her often too. His klutsy neighbor has grown on him and when he sees her in a tight dress, he's all for a little action. Eden sees how upset he is and when he brings up the question of whether to stay with the SEAL's or go into training, she realizes he wants her to make the decision and walks away. Cade feels betrayed. She is afraid he would give up something he loved for the wrong reason and it has to be his decision.
They are in love and want to see if the relationship will last. He takes on the new job and she travels to San Diego and he returns home on leave. Their relationship is built on friendship that has turned into love.
Lots of funny sections in the book, some of which is terminology used by Weber.
For a run down what the book is about please see the the blurb above the reviews.
The plot was well done. The characters likable. This is the second time I've read this series due to not realizing it was one of the series I've read before. I just forgot to do the reviews for them then.
This one had me laughing in places because the heroine is so outlandish but I give it to her she doesn't let anything stop her. I loved how the hero seemed to always arrive at the right (or is it wrong) time? I loved how they interacted. However, the heroine's family was a bit much, although his grandmother started to come around at the end but most of it she acts like a stuck up snob.
The plot was good but the characters is what made the book go and you didn't want to stop reading because you wanted to see what they got into next.
Her hero Snotty town full of the rich and mean, one of their own is not rich and is looked down upon. Sexy next door neighbor has his own ‘club ‘Cade-ettes’ well he don’t but the members list is exclusive, and Eden just wants to guy for him not is popularity. Many birthday wishes she blown candles out for a night with him but no magic luck, until his on leave from his Seals for his father’s heart attack. Missing cat in a tree, accident prone girl and a the hero rescuer, town of snooty people, a father with control issues and loans… what will happen..
Finding out what makes Cade the man that he is, was like peeling the paint off a piece of antique furniture. So many layers and so worth it in the end. Eden is a breath of fresh air and someone so relatable. I started it yesterday and finished it tonight! On to book 3, can't wait for this one!!
Alexia is just looking for Good Hot Sex while Blake is looking to forget the traumatic loss of a good friend one moment of instant attraction leads to intense heat but Blake and Alexia have a few problems since Alexia can't stand officers and Blake is a Navy Seal. This is ones sexy ride from start to finish that you won't want to put down even after you finish it!
This was a light, fun and quick read. Sexy but with a storyline. Who doesn’t want to be the girl who actually has a relationship with the guy who all the girls wish they could?
A fun, sweet SEAL romance with a few inaccurate facts and editing mistakes. I enjoyed the characters although I wasn't too big of a fan of Eden's need to be accepted by people she didn't even like. Still an entertaining, short sexy military romance that I did like.
