3.5 to 4 Heated Stars

I hate to admit it but I judged this book by its cover. I was expecting something supremely cheesy but was pleasantly surprised to find a well written, engaging and sensual story.

Marketing Rep Kat Owens is new in town and wants to make a name for herself at her new firm. Erik Montague is her client. He also happens to be the sex on a stick man she had a hot one night stand with a year ago. Awkward! When the two meet again he knows he wants a repeat of the night they shared and she knows she needs to stay far, far away from her new client because sex, no matter how scorching hot, can fuck over a good working relationship in a hurry. She doesn’t do relationships because she’s concentrating on her career. He doesn’t do them because his caring about a woman could lead to his hurting her. Or something along those lines.

First things first, the sexual chemistry and tension between these two characters is white hot and exceptionally well done. They don’t give into it immediately but it’s always there, simmering in the background and between them. Usually when the characters share that kind of passion he’d have her in bed or up against the nearest hard surface fairly early on but that wasn’t the case here. I loved the slow build up and it paid off nicely when they do finally come together.

Kat’s fears about entering into any kind of relationship beyond friendship with Erik made sense given her history of being screwed over by clients and work associates. Unfortunately Erik’s reservations didn’t ring quite as true. He’s still feeling the guilt of his fiancé’s car crash and subsequent death over ten years ago, even though he wasn’t in the car with her. He’s unhappy with the way he left things with her and has decided he’s never taking that chance again. His giving in to Kat emotionally then pulling away from her in literally the same breath got old after a while and it took him most of the book to figure out he wasn’t going to cause her pain just by giving into his feelings. Regardless of that, both characters were three dimensional and well written. There’s more than enough affection and playfulness between Kat and Erik to go along with the scorching sex vibes.

I love being surprised by a new to me author or book and I’m happy I stumbled across Savin’ Me. I’m not sure it’s going on my to be read again soon list, but I definitely enjoyed the time I spent with it the first go ‘round.

4 solid stars for “Savin' Me” by Alannah Lynne, which follows the story of Kat Owens and Erik Monteague.

The story begins just as Kat relocates to a new town, after leaving her old advertising company. Little does Kat know that the gorgeous stranger she met in a bar eighteen months previous (and might I add, had an amazingly hot one stand with) also lives in her new town.

Trouble is it turns out that Erik is also one of Kat's new clients and the last thing Kat wants is some one night stand ruining her chances with her new company. To Kat, relationships with clients are a big no no. Luckily this suits Erik just fine, he is not interested in settling down and he certainly isn't looking for a relationship having been badly burned by love in the past but that doesn't mean he wouldn't mind maybe trying another night with the sexy, seductive Kat and he's more than happy to walk away afterwards. Trouble is neither can get the other person out of their minds and keeping things purely professional starts to get a little tricky.

I enjoyed this book, I loved the chemistry between Erik and Kat and I enjoyed the fact that their story unfolded through flashbacks, so page by page we got to see snippets of what had previously happened between the characters. I loved that this was a plot driven story but one that still had all the necessary elements that made this a thoroughly enjoyable book; the right levels of romance and sexual chemistry, a believable and page turning storyline and just enough tragedy to peak my interest and keep it.

Erik was a very likeable, realistic character. He had a vulnerable side that I couldn't help feeling drawn to. Kat, I also liked because she was driven and strong minded and definitely had some sass about her.

This was the first book I have read by Alannah Lynne and it definitely won’t be my last. Overall I would recommended this book to those of you that love the romance genre and are looking for a sweet love story, with some hot sex scenes and just the right amount of heartache and drama to keep the reader engaged.

Kat Owens didn't know what made her agree to a one night stand, but when she met Erik Monteague fell into one full heartily. A year later she has moved to a new city, new job, and new start. The last thing she expected to see was her one night stand who would like a repeat performance or one or two...

Erik doesn't do relationships, the one he had ten years ago taught him a valuable lesson. Never put you heart out where it can get wounded, when he spent the one night with Kat he wanted something more from her. He is not sure what but he knows it can never lead down the path he knows she deserves, but when she is reluctant to have a fling it causes Erik to reflect and make an important decision.

I thought this was a wonderful read, the emotions were very real for both characters. Erik made a mistake in a heated moment when he was young and his guilt has ridden him since then. You sense he is afraid of what is developing between Kat and himself and it leaves him tormented on what to do. Kat though has always been trying to please her family and make them proud, when Erik is there for her in a time of need she finds herself falling deeply for him and is willing to take the time he needs to come to terms with his own feelings, but his ghosts cause him to panic and possibly lose everything he holds precious.

Really enjoyed this book. Kat and Eric had a one night stand thirteen months ago. Kat snuck out in the middle of the night and They haven't seen each other since. Eric is all about one night stands or two or three. But no relationships. But he cant seem to get Kat out of his mind. Kat never forgot Eric and when she sees him again and finds out that she is stuck working with a guys that she fell for all those months ago she fights her attraction. But Eric is persistent. The problem the more they are together the more they both develop feelings for each other.

Eric has a tragic past and because of that he has fought what he feels for Kat all the way almost till the very end. He made some crappy choices that hurt Kat, hoping that by pushing her away he can save himself heartache. Stupid man. I have to say that Kat was so very understanding and forgave him and even fought for them when he had given up. I really liked her. Drama at the end, kinda funny cause I saw that coming a mile away. But overall I really really liked it. In fact I hope that we get a story about Kevin and one about Seth. Please !!!!!

The back and forth yo-yo of desire/love and rejection/grief in this story was hard to take at times, but that might be because I emotionally invested in stupid jerky Erik Monteague. I totally understand not being about to choose your family and horrible selfish a$$hole relatives can totally get a person down and make them do stupid things. I liked Kat Owens, she was a cool sexy fun woman that knew what she wanted in a guy, even if she wasn't too clear about her professional career until the end of the story.
Sweet and angsty contemporary romance that was well written and edited for your reading pleasure. It was put in 'erotica' section on Amazon and although there are a few sexy scenes, this is definitely romance without any wierd fantasies or BDSM tendencies.

Fall in love so easily with this great contemporary romance from Alannah Lynne. It’s my first read from this author, and I’ll be looking forward for the rest of the books in the Heat Wave Series.

It was suppose to be a one-night stand, or so Kat thinks. But for Erik, it was a whole lot more than that. Waking up alone, in an empty bed surprised him. He didn’t expect for the girl who shifted his world to run away while he was in deep slumber.

Kat Owens was trying to put her life together after a devastating loss to her career and love life. Moving in a new place is hard, but what is harder is resisting her supposedly one-night-stand who tempting her to have a repeat. But Erik was a client, and she had a bad experience mixing business with pleasure. Not to mention, someone is not happy that she’s in the firm.

Kat has a lot on her plate. More than just starting for scratch, she needs to prove to her grandfather that she can be someone. Distraction was not a part of her game plan. But he was temptation personified. How long can she resist what he was offering?

Just as when Kat was ready to open her heart, walls begin to rise around Erik’s heart as old wound starts to ache again. Will he be brave enough to face his emotions? Or will he end up running away?

Easily likable characters, not-to-heavy drama, just enough to pique your hearts, and great romance makes Saving Me one heck of a read.

Review:

"Savin' Me" by Alannah Lynne was a good contemporary romance that was really a good read. This was a story of learning to' trust and over come insecurities,' I enjoyed this author writing style with allowing the reader to be brought into the story. Who knew that from a one night stand... Kat relocates to a new town and as it turns out Erick will be one of Kat's new clients. Will this ruin her chances with the new company that she is now working for? Well, for a while it seems like neither one of these two are looking for a relationship. However, will either be able to get the other person out of their minds and keep things purely professional?

This was a good read and as you see the sexual chemistry between Erik and Kat you will be found turning the pages to find out what will happen next. You will find that in your reading you will get a 'story that will unfold through flashbacks of what had previously happened between the two characters.' You will find that both characters were realistic, likable, well driven and even strong minded and with all of this will bring out a very good read from this author.

I would recommend this read as a good fast paced contemporary romantic read.

Check out my full review on Bookaholics Not-So-Anonymous.

Saving Me is the first book in the Heat Wave series by author Alannah Lynne and was previously titled Savin' Me. This is a contemporary romance that I went into completely blind and was pleasantly surprised by just how much I enjoyed reading it. The story itself may start off as one filled with light-hearted humor, but there's more than meets the eye. The lead characters have their own sets of issues, she with her family hang-ups and he mourning a love lost, so there is angst but the kind that had my heart squeezing in empathy, especially when those issues make it difficult for them to move on.

I liked Kat and Eric as individual characters and as a couple, with her being strong yet vulnerable and he battling demons even as he projects a laidback persona. These two seemed perfectly suited for one another and most everyone around them agreed. Eric's closest friends were also memorable, making them prime pickings for the spotlight to be turned their way in other books in the series. The author's writing style was easygoing but definitely not lazy and she did a fab job conveying a story with equal parts sweet and steam. Saving Me started the Heat Wave series on the right foot and I'm giving it five stars. ♥

I think a lot of women can relate to Kat. Strong, determined, but ultimately, working really hard for something they really don't want. Kat pushed herself to impress others, and when she was honest with herself, she really didn't like her job. (Boy, can I relate to that!!!)

Kat and Erik had a pretty easy fling and they were both really likeable. :)

Wow, the tragedy that Erik went through... Wow. There are no words. You spend more than half the book wondering what happened to this Lindsay character but you never expect what actually happened.

The ending! My heart sank for Erik! I mean, obviously for Kat because it happened to her... But Erik!!!! You poor man!! He is going to need some SERIOUS therapy!!!

Oh, one last note... Elise. She got off easy. She is a huge Bitch. Yes, with a capital B. B-I-T-C-H. I would have slugged her if I had the chance...Just sayin'.

One of the major rules governing a one-night-stand is no emotional connection, entailments, or ties. This rule ensures no chance of future entanglements. Once the night was shared, hedonistic pleasures enjoyed, and meaningless sex performed, the two consenting partners could go their own way and live the rest of their lives, with sweet memories and nothing more.
Erik Monteague, the owner of Monteague Boats, is a confirmed bachelor and infamously known for his lothario lifestyle, had a one-night-stand thirteen months earlier on a trip to Charlotte, North Carolina. The short encounter stayed with him, haunted him, something that this type of liaison wasn't supposed to do.
Kat Owens knew what Erik was but was unable to deny his sexual magnetism, becoming another notch on his extensive belt of conquests. Unable to face the awkward scene of the morning after, Kat left their nest of lust while Erik still slept. They both thought that they could file this encounter away in the file of memories, but they soon discovered this to be an erroneous assumption.
Fate reunites them when Kat took the position of Vice President of Client Services at the advertising firm Sinclair Marketing Group in the coastal town of Riverside, North Carolina, and Monteague Boats being one of their clients. Will the fire of their one passionate night reignite or can they retain a formal business relationship?
This is a humorously light, graphically sexual, heartwarming, and interesting romance. The tactical addition of the dog pound paroled, ugly, mixed breed, Little Bit, can’t help but tug at the strings of your heart.

Reading this book I would say: there are no longer the good one-night stand, it's only a myth, seriously the protagonists start out with good intentions of enjoying a healthy adventure, but our dear Cupid loves throwing his arrows.

One step away from the coveted Vice Presidency of her firm, the last thing Kat Owens needs is the distraction of a man. Her client, Erik Monteague, disagrees. He’s charming, sexy, seductive, and impossible to ignore or refuse. After succumbing to his advances, Kat’s forced to choose between her career and the man she’s fallen for... while knowing even her love might not be enough to save him from self-destructing.

While Erik’s perfectly executed seduction gets Kat into his bed, the end result is more than he bargained for. Having spent the past ten years wallowing in guilt and self-loathing over his fiancée’s tragic death, falling in love is unacceptable. However, Kat’s passionate, loving nature dissolves the carefully constructed walls guarding his heart, forcing him to face his tragic past and make a decision... spend the rest of his life running, or risk being devastated by love again?

The story told in the synopsis of the book is a bit misleading in my opinion, in fact the story is not as obvious as it seems.
As two complete strangers Kat met Erik in a bar, where they wenform the middle of their sorrows to drink something, they feel an immediate attraction and they spend together the night, in an amazing one-night stand. We find them after a year in another city than where they met and now they find themselves in the real world, having to come to terms with their roles and the deep attraction they continue to feel for each other.
Erik is a very intriguing character, beautiful, rich, confident, but not as shallow as it may seem at a first glance,he has fantastic friends, who are truly loyal and close to him and they have a little fundamental role in this story.
Kat is a tough girl at work, with a sharp tongue if she needs to defend herself, she's spontaneous and direct. At the same time is very vulnerable in the affections because she's unable to rationalize her way to love and enjoy it, she loves always with all of her heart.
Their story is beautiful, hot and moving at the same time, definitely recommend to anyone who loves romance.
Kat's grandfather is adorable, I daresay very cool with his little nephew and I loved how he behaves.
This is the first book in the Heat Wave Series, each book tells of stories of different characters and this is a good thing.
Thanks to Netgalley and Alannah Lynne for the book.

This book was just average for me. There wasn’t anything that really excited me or that I found unique. I actually could’ve done with a little more groveling at the end on Erik’s part but other than that the story was just kind of blah.

Saving Me by Alannah Lynne
Book #1: Heat Wave Series

My Rating: 4/5 stars
My Review:

There is just nothing like a small town - everyone knows everyone and everyone knows absolutely everyone’s business. There’s no keeping secrets or dirty deeds under wraps so when Kat Owens moves to town, she is immediately warned about Erik Monteague, the smokin’ hot playboy owner of Monteague Boats. Little do her colleagues know, Kat not only already knows Erik, she knows what he looks like naked 

Thirteen long months ago, Erik Monteague participated in what should have been just another one night stand. Erik’s MO has always been get in and get out with no strings attached but when Kat Owens leaves him in the middle of the night without even a goodbye, he is left somewhat speechless and definitely wanting more. Off and on for the past thirteen months Erik has visited the bar where he met Kat but not once has he seen her. Erik is used to getting what he wants and he wants Kat so it is all systems go the afternoon Kat Owens unexpectedly walks back into his life. As the owner of Monteague Boats, Erik has a vested interest in advertising and within 24 hours of finding out why Kat has moved to town, he asks the advertising firm to transfer his account into Kat’s capable hands.

Kat Owens is on what she feels like is her last chance. Most of her life has been spent disappointing her parents and never quite measuring up to their lofty standards. Don’t mistake Kat for a flighty or lazy girl; Kat is tremendously successful as an advertising executive but her job but her job isn’t good enough for her parents and they aren’t shy about telling her so. Getting Montegeau Boats is a coup for Kat and she determined not to let her personal feelings for Erik get in the way of her success. Kat puts up one hell of a fight but Erik is a persuasive man and before long their relationship crosses the line from professional to personal.

Kat and Erik both try to convince themselves that the past doesn’t play any part in their current situation but both know each is full of crap. Kat’s past and her relationship with her parents is part of what brought her to town. Proving herself to her parents and making them proud is what is keeping her town and in a job she has little to no passion for. Erik’s past is crippling his present and future and if he continues to ignore his past, he will lose absolutely everything he has come to hold dear. Both Erik and Kat try to ignore their issues but after one completely awesome and disastrous weekend, each realizes the past just won’t be denied.

The Bottom Line: Saving Me is relatively light and very easy contemporary romance that I was able to complete in a single sitting. While there isn’t anything particularly new or unique about this read it is a good and entertaining read. I like Kat and her attempts to ignore her feelings for Erik. I like Erik (most of the time!) and his attempts to deny his feelings for Kat. Both characters are slightly damaged by their respective past and are so terrified of giving in to their feelings that they frequently do really stupid stuff. Some of the stupid stuff is damn entertaining and some of it is just plain sad but eventually, they pull their heads out of their respective asses and truly see what they have with one another. While the book clearly focuses on Kat and Erik, there is a cast of minor characters that each have a role to play and they do so quite well. Elise totally sucks, Steve is the quintessential best-friend, Seth is the completely delightful gay co-worker, Kat and Erik’s parents suck so hard there aren’t words and, Kat’s grandpa is a true highlight. Good characters, easy plot and an HEA all combine to be exactly what I like in contemporary romance.

I was given this book for an honest review.

Oh how I liked this book, it made me giggle..a lot. Now let me tell you most likely the main reason why I liked this book, the sexual innuendos. Yep you read that right lol. I can't help it, part of my brain is a 15 year old boy. I bet 97.3% of the time,I can take anything you say and make it perverted. You can tell me about a marshmallow getting stuck to a wall and in my head I have already came up with 8 different ways to turn that all around. I should probably seek help for this little problem but I enjoy the entertainment.

So we start out by meeting Erik and from this man's first thought, I was already swooning. I found it cute how he tried to act all manly and not lu-lu(haha) whipped in front of his boy, even though I wanted to kick him for it. Own your actions man, own them! You come to find out that although he may be a playboy, there is a part of him that is struggling daily. I do feel like though, the author just barely skimmed the surface with him. I felt like she may have left out an important part of him. But I did like him, especially the caveman part. Sorry this woman likes some cavemen lol. He was just missing tattoos. So halfway through his introduction we meet Kat. Apparently these two shared a night of passion that has since stuck with Erik and after 13 months of looking for her, she is basically served to him on a silver platter. Now Kat, I liked the spunky side of her. She was funny and just seemed like a girl you would go have drinks with. And the simple fact that she was the one to hightail it the next morning after their first encounter made me want to hug her and buy her a cookie. The one thing I didn't like about her, was how easily she just put herself out there for Erik. I know she put up a little fight but I wish she would of held out some more. At times it almost seemed to rushed, maybe even forced between them. You do find out that the both of them have a troubled family life and that does help to bring them more together. And you eventually find out what past event has stained Erik's soul. Now I kind of get what his deal was. I really did like his determination to win Kat over, even though he thought that nothing would ever come put of it. So the big question is, did he win her over just to throw it all away? Did Kat ever let go of some of the hurts from her past and give herself the chance to live? Hmmmm?

As far as the story goes I enjoyed it. There was some humor, romance and a little heartache. I may have teared up a little in a couple of spots and also called Erik some ugly names in my notes. The only downside I found in this book was, to me it seemed like at times the author over did it with details. Three paragraphs later and she is still describing the entryway to the house. I appreciate some detail but ehh it seemed like to much for me. Oh the other thing, I didn't like was, Erik made it seem like that even after Kat that he dated but didn't sleep with anyone. But later you find out he did, while once again she became the born again virgin. For once I wish authors would reverse this role. But don't worry I am not holding this against her, I am just stating my opinion on the matter. I also thought the end was kind of blah, I couldn't believe that was it. I wanted more from them, more answers or something. But overall I really liked Erik and Kat, oh and lets not forget Little Bit and Grandpa! I really enjoyed the story, I honestly did bust out laughing a few times and considered going and getting a glass of ice water for those steamy parts. Whew! I can not wait to read the rest of this series.

It's a great feeling when you're in the mood to read something not too long but with enough story and character that will captivate you throughout and leave you with a content smile on your face in the end. That is exactly what Savin' Me was for me. I went into this book only having read the synopsis and not really knowing what to expect. But the end result was fantastic.

Kat Owens is starting fresh, moving on from her old marketing firm she has relocated cities and looking ahead. All Kat wants to do is prove to her parents that she isn't a royal screw up and can be successful. She is within mere grabs of the coveted Vice Presidency position at her new firm Sinclair Marketing Group (SMG) and the last thing she needs is anyone to get in her way...much less a man. During a meet and greet party held by SMG one nigh all her plans come come tumbling down when she scans the room and locks eyes with HIM.... The one night stand that she hasn't seen or stopped thinking about for over a year.

Erik Monteague is successful, hot and the local playboy. He is done with relationships thinking that nothing good can come of them other than hurt so one night stands and no strings attached sex is all he's after. That is until that one night 18 months ago when he met a woman that not only rocked his bed but stirred something within him that he hasn't felt in years. Trying to find her without success he is still living his carefree playboy life until that night at the SMG party...and HER

Erik and Kat are a beautiful mess. Neither of them wanted a relationship each for their own reasons but the pull they had towards each other was just to much to ignore. So they come to an agreement to see where things go. The problem with that is that Kat loves and loves with all her heart and Erik has loved and lost 10 years ago and doesn't want to go back there again.

I'm not going to say much more than that about the actual plot but I will say that I really was not expecting to like this book so much. Erik and Kat were a really awesome apart and together. Their chemistry was undeniable but they each had fears, past tragedies and insecurities they had to overcome. Another reason I really liked these two is they didn't play games and beat around the bush, they said what needed to be said, when it needed to be said and took as good as they gave. They had their share of angst but taught each other the meaning of forgiveness and trust and in the end got their much deserved HEA.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fast paced well written contemporary romance. The plot is realistic and all of the characters truly lovable. This was my first Alannah Lynne read but I assure you it will not be my last.

Thank you to netgalley for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

I’m going to start with what I liked about this book because it’s going to take me a while to explain what I did not like.

What was good

The overall story line conveyed immediate interest for me and I liked the characters from the start. They were nicely described and had enough personality to get me to want good things to happen for them. And that is about it for what I liked

Now for what was not so good

The story DRAGGED on and on and nothing really happened with it. There were so many nuggets in this book that could have really gone somewhere if only the author would have elaborated more and developed that story a bit more. For example, there was this cat fight that was developing between Kat and Elise for nearly the entire book and there was this implication that there would be this major drama and blowout that occurred at some point but when it all boiled down to it, it just peaked and fizzled with absolutely NO drama, payback or comeuppance what so ever. It was stated that Elise was “dealt with” but wow what a great story this would have been had the author added that in the book.

Also, Erik had some major jealousy issues with Kevin Mazze, which also just fizzled into nothing. It appeared in the book at first that Erik was violently jealous but there was nothing in the book that collaborated that claim. He and Kevin were actually good friends and Kevin didn’t even really yank Erik’s chain at all with regard to Kat… at least not enough to warrant such a jealously on Erik’s part.

The history between the two main characters, Erik and Kat was briefly described here and there and the reader was “told” that there was off the chart chemistry with these two when they got together thirteen months earlier but I didn’t really feel it. To me, I didn’t think they had much chemistry at all or there would have been far more than one sex scene in the entire book. Why not have a prologue at the beginning of the book that was dated thirteen months ago and really steam it up with these two. THAT would get the reader dying for these two to hook up again.

Lastly Kat (I’ll stop ranting after this) – she was too soft and nonconfrontational. To me, I felt like she would accept whatever was handed to her and say thank you with a smile. She withstood nasty parents, Erik leaving without explanation, and Elise stealing from her and instead of standing up for herself, she goes for a run.

Overall, I had to force myself to finish this book and I’m not sure why I did. I reluctantly gi it one star, I really can’t give it more.

Kat Owens has moved away from Charlotte NC to accept a position at a small marketing agency, Sinclair Marketing Group or SMG. This is a fresh start for Kat, a chance to earn the VP position that would finally prove to her family that she is doing something with her life, not just floating by like her parents think. While at a party for SMG, Kat runs into Erik Monteague, the one night stand from thirteen months ago that she hasn’t been able to forget or move on from. Kat doesn’t have time to be distracted by Erik, she needs to reach her goal, and unfortunately a man in her life doesn’t fit into that goal at this time.

Erik Monteague, owner of Monteague Boating, is a client of SMG. Erik can’t believe that Kat is in the same room as him after all this time. He is the one who normally walks away, but when she left from their one night together before he woke up, he thought he would never see her again. Erik is a typical playboy, he doesn’t do relationships anymore, not since ten years before when he lost his almost fiancé. There is something about Kat though, something that keeps him wanting more, but his past won’t let him.

The way that Kat and Erik interacted was believable and not forced. You could tell that the passion they shared that single night all those months ago hadn’t died in the tiniest bit, and when they would get together again the passion would ignite, and it did! I loved when Kat didn’t take anyone’s shit, especially from Elise, her nemesis and her message to Erik was hysterical. Kat felt that until she made VP she would never make her family proud, especially her Granddad (which I loved that she called him that because that was what I called my grandpa).

I felt for Erik, the incident that happened ten years before really did serious damage. He had short term affairs, never any form of relationship since that time, and never wanted more until he was with Kat. He tried to keep his feelings from forming into more and when he failed at that, he did the typical guy thing, he pushed Kat away. When his past almost recreates itself with Kat, he finally opens his eyes to see that he needs Kat in his life and that she has helped him heal.

This is the first book in the Heat Wave series, and I really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to the rest of this series. I was able to read this is one afternoon; I can only do that if the book really draws me in, and Savin’ Me drew me in from the start.

Kat had an unforgettable one-night stand with Erik. After resigning from her job following a huge misunderstanding, Kat accepts a position in another company where, unbeknownst to her, Erik is a client.

From the moment they lay eyes on each other again, they can't resist each other. She's determined to move on from that night, but Erik is relentless. Putting aside her uncertainties, she finds herself in his arms again only to be left in the cold once their connection comes to be too much for Erik.

This was an interesting story. I liked how Kat worked hard to move on from Erik and how she set forth in her goals even if all she wanted was to give into her attraction to Erik. I felt for her too. She wanted to be pursing something else as a career, but felt she had to comply to her parents wishes. She was frustrated both in her personal and professional life, but she kept her sense of humor and her determination.

Erik, on the other hand, frustrated the hell out of me. At first, I admired his resilience in getting together with Kat, but as he started to withdraw from her, I started to question his motives. I was intrigued by his story and why he kept Kat at bay and with what little was revealed in the beginning I put my worries aside. I tried to understand where he was coming from, but I couldn't help but think that he was playing her knowing that he couldn't give her what she needed at the moment. It was great to see how he came to his senses and know the full extent of his story, but the damage had been done. At least in regards to my opinion of him.

Alannah Lynne did a great job of bringing Erik and Kat's emotions to the page. I could understand Kat's hesitation to start something with Erik and her sadness when he pushed her way. And although I didn't think highly of Erik, I admired his determination to prove to Kat that he was worthy of her love. It was a treat to see how deeply his pain was when he thought he had lost her. It helped to endear him to me a little.

I wish the story would have been a bit longer. There were some interesting characters I would have loved to know more about. Their addition to the story brought out another side to the main characters and I think their story would be a treat to read. Hopefully, I'll get to see more of them in the future.

All in all, Savin' Me was an intense romantic story of second chances and new beginnings. It had the heat factor, some emotions and a great cast of characters.

I received this title from the author through NetGalley in exchange of my honest opinion.

Kat was new in town, running from her old life amid a work-related scandal into a new one with a new job, a chance to make it big, become a VP in the firm. How could she have known that a hot one night stand would come back to haunt her thoughts, her life, her career? But, sure enough, there was Erik, still hot, still all sexy and now a client. Hmmm, sounds like this could get verrrry interesting, doesn’t it?
It seems that Kat has haunted Erik’s thoughts, weakening his resolve NEVER to become attached in any way to anyone after a terrible tragedy in his past that shattered his world. And then, there she was…again. The sparks are there, the magnetic pull is strong, and both Kat and Erik try desperately to avoid any involvement, they really tried, honest! And when they failed, they tried again, but sooner or later, one of them cries “uncle,” and is willing to risk a future with the other, who now is pulling back twice as hard. Confusing? Not if you realize that both Kat and Erik have issues that need to be resolved. They both need to overcome their own demons and learn to trust someone. Will it be possible? Can they take that sizzling magic they find under the sheets and carry it over into the rest of their lives?
Savin’Me by Alannah Lynne is one of those contemporary romances that you connect with right down to your toes! She has drawn a realistic plot, colored complex characters and combined it all with just enough heat to create a delightfully spicy concoction!

This is a typical Contemporary Romance. Very little drama/angst, a simple story line/plot and a HEA tied up in a pretty bow. And after a few intense reads this was a breath of fresh air. Every now and then I need something just a little steamy that makes my heart smile.

Kat has moved to a new town - new job, everything about her surroundings in unfamiliar... well almost everything. At a work party where she is suppose to be meeting clients she spots a pair of blue eyes from across the room that she hasn't seen for 13 months. Eyes that belong to the man that rocked her world that one night after a rough day. The same man that she left in the early morning without so much as a note or a kiss goodbye.

Erik is the typical playboy of his small town. He is not interested in a relationship. He had that once and after he lost it - he was never going to go through that pain again. But one girl that he met 13 months ago took his mind off of his pain. Allowed him to make it through the anniversary of the tragic end of his relationship. And that woman has not left his thoughts after all these months.

Now that Kat and Erik have run into each other again - Erik is certain that a few more romps would get her worked out of his system so he can continue on his path of plowing everything in town that has a vagina. But Kat doesn't want to get involved with a client... but Erik knows that his only chance at seducing Kat is to force her to spend time with her on a professional level.

As these two reconnect both realize that the one night they spent together was more than just a one night stand. But with Kat's need to show her parents she can be responsible and Erik's need to keep his heart protected it's not as easy as just giving into temptation.

This was is part of a companion series, but can be read as a stand alone. The author does comment that these books will cross paths eventually, so reading order is probably left best to the order per the release and author notes. The story was a quick read that was just shy of 200 pages. Even though the story was a predictable one, the story was still good. This is not the steamiest of books, but this is my go to type of read when I have either hit a wall full of bad books or ones that leave me hung over.

This genre is sort of like my palate cleanser. It can wash a bad taste out of my mouth or prepare me for the next exciting book on my list.

Let me just say that giving a five wine glass toast is not something I do often. So, not only am I thrilled to give this book the proverbial five star because it was an extremely well written book that pulled at the heart strings, but also because it's an indie author with a self pubbed book! Thank you Alannah Lynne for such a great story!

Erik Monteague has loved and lost, and because of that is determined to never love again. That doesn't mean that he can't slip between the sheets for some hot & sexy mattress dancing with an attractive woman. The problem is, no one has caught his attention since he had a one night stand with Kat in Charlotte over a year ago. If that wasn't enough to drive him crazy, he's gone back to Charlotte to look for her so that he could work her out of his system and he can't find her. That is until she shows up at a party in his hometown of Riverside.

Kat Owens is determined to make her parents proud of her. To finally show them that she's not just all about having fun, but that she can also buckle down and be a career success. After her supposed best friend stabbed her in the back at work in Charlotte, and one of her clients became her ex-boyfriend, she decides it's best to move on to some place new for a fresh start. Now she's in Riverside with a new job and this time she's determined to get it right. If she concentrates, and stays on task, it will be a piece of cake to reach her goal of becoming VP at her new firm. Well it would have been easy, until the sexy distraction of Erik walks back into her life, determined to pick up where they left off in the bedroom. There's two problems with that. First, he's a client of her firm, and she doesn't want to make that mistake again. Secondly, he'd be the biggest distraction of all to her master plan because it wasn't just a hot sexy might to her. It was the night of her life, and she hasn't been able to get him out of her mind since. She knows that he'll just break her heart. But he makes it so hard to say no.

Pick this book up and you won't regret it. It's a sweet story with wit, heartache, and engaging characters! To read this review & many more, visit Reading Between the Wines Book Club!

I got this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

ok, I honestly have to say this book was not for me. Don't get me wrong. It was a great story line, but i feel like this book could be cut in half. It dragged on, and i felt like it could have been a lot different.. there was minor sex scenes that i don't know why people shelved this as erotic because it is not

Kat was in a huge firm. She was up for promotion, and she did the one thing that you were not suppose to do. She was dating a client. This turned out to be a big scandal at work, and let her without a promotion, and leaving her to quit her job, and also her best friend. Kat was drinking away her sorrows when she say him. Erik was also drinking away his own problems, and they both connected. Leaving them with a hot steamy night. Kat left without saying goodbye, and thought that would be the last time that she would see him..

Boy was Kat wrong. She was at a open house for her new job when she spotted him. He wouldn't let the fact go that she left. He was watching her like a tiger watches his pray. He finally got her backed into a corner and got her to explain why she left. She was going to keep this relationship all about work. She was not going to go down that road again. Her boss Rusty thought it would be a great idea for her to work on Erik's business. This was a big client, and he had high hopes for her.
Erik was not going to make her job easy. He was going to get the full advantage on this. He took her on the boat and to his business. He also took her away to the beach for the weekend with other business partners. He was going to make her his. That was until they finally slept with each other again.
Erik will find himself fighting himself because of his ex girlfriend. He couldn't move on. To make matters worse. A child and family friend. Elise who also works Kat is trying to get her fired. Elise knew that Kat came from a huge firm, and you just don't leave a big place for a little place like this. Elise will be asking a bunch of questions to get all the dirt she needs. Including taking a client from Kat, and going thru her office.
Kat will have to make a big choices if her job is worth the relationship with Erik, or will she move on just to be with him. Will her boss believe that Elise is trying to mess with her or will it just be like her old job?

Don’t you just love it when a wicked one night stand comes back and you realize you’d like another shot at it? Two people meet in a bar, share an amazing night that neither has been able to forget and both want to repeat. Thirteen months later they meet at a party and so sets up the incredibly sexy book, Savin’ Me by Alannah Lynne.

I can’t even begin to express how much I enjoyed this book. Erik Monteague is kind of a mess, he suffered a tragedy ten years ago and he’s shut himself off refusing to get involved again. However, he can’t seem to get Kat Owens off his mind and finds himself thinking and feeling things he never expected. Kat hasn’t exactly had it easy over the last year; she quit her job amid a scandal, had to relocate, and doesn’t really enjoy her career. When she reconnects with Erik, the spark is there but because he’s a client she doesn’t want to get involved.

Never have two people worked so hard to NOT be together than these two, but man did they fail miserably. I’ll admit I enjoyed every minute of them failing. While this isn’t an erotic romance the sex scenes were written so well, it wasn’t hard to imagine every single minute of their time together. Intense, sexy, and a good time was had by all (including the reader).

This couple had quite a few stumbles along the way and even with support from friends and family I began to wonder if they’d be able to work through it all. Erik especially had some dragons to slay and it takes another near tragedy to make him realize he needs to live his life. When Kat realizes the perception of what she thinks she wants out of life and what she truly needs things really start to fall into place for her but then Erik throws her for a complete loop and she’s as confused as ever.
Savin’ Me is the perfect example of a well written romance novel. The characters are complex, the plot line realistic, the sex scenes gratifying, and the happily ever after we all enjoy. While this is my first book by Alannah Lynne, it won’t be my last. I’m already looking forward to reading the next one in this series!

I loved Erik. Did I mention I love Erik. Because I DO. He was sweet and kind. Gentle and sexy downright sinful in and out of the bedroom. He worked hard and loved his friends and his sweet cute fugly dog. Kat was strong willed, stubborn and fun. She just moves to town determined to not be a disappointment to her family. Well at least her mom and dad with Erik’s help she sees her grandad loved her no matter what and was always proud of her. She was kind as well.

Erik and Kat meet one night in time and can’t get each other out of their heads. Kat had walked away and Erik was angry. Angry and intrigued so when she shows up in his hometown working for the ad agency he uses he is determined. Determined to get answers and to get her out of his head. Kat is resistant thinking he is a bad boy with no work ethic.

Little does she know he will be her client. And she learns who Erik is. And she falls. They are explosive together. They try to resist each other. More Kat than Erik but can’t. The chemistry is off the charts. Problem for Erik is he is so scared of love and commitment. He isn’t fearful because he wants to leave the bachelor life behind. He is fearful out of a past love and guilt. He feels his love destroys and he can’t handle destroying someone else. His friends try to help him see differently and tell Kat he is worth the fight but Erik is hard headed. It isn’t until he almost loses Kat that he changes. He accepts his past and with the help of Kat’s grandfather comes to terms with things.

Each character is endearing in their own way. Eriks friends are gorgaluscious and fun loving. Loyal as well. They always have his back as he does theirs. Kat’s boss was kind and sweet. Her grandad was precious. Her parents and his meh. Those parentals you want to shake until they see straight. It is them that really are the crux of both Erik’s and Kat’s problems.

This is the story of Erik coming to terms with his past and finding love and allowing it to come into his life and heart. The story of Kat finding her voice and who she is. It is about the two of them coming together and being what the other needs. It is sensual, fun and at times sweet. You see all sides of the characters and how the came to be who they were and how they came to find one another.
