Whitney is on her way to Naples, Florida to help her company settle a land dispute. She gets a tip on a short cut and tries it out – but maybe should have tried it out when there wasn’t a huge rain storm. Her luck turns worse when her car runs out of gas. She gets rescue by White Eagle who gets offended by her lack of knowledge of Indians. He makes a point of schooling her and trying to change her point of view. Whitney does learn more about their culture and is falling for White Eagle. Her luck finally seems to be changing until White Eagle’s dad shows up and spills some secrets!

I believe this book was first written in the late 80’s. So it was commonplace to use Indian rather than Native American or any other pc term of today.
The book also seems to do a fair job of showing how judgmental we can be towards different cultures.
Besides that the book was awesome! So much heat between the H and h with both having too much pride but also falling madly in love. Plenty of poetic love scenes! Awesome vintage read!!!

I read an ARC of this book via NetGalley, and I hadn’t realised it was a re-edition of a book published in 2000, but that certainly didn’t dent my enjoyment.

I love the setting – as reflected beautifully in the new cover: the Florida Everglades. The author uses this as a wild and beautiful backdrop that has a thrilling undercurrent of danger thanks to the local wildlife such as the ’gators and snakes.

The chemistry between the characters is strong from the beginning, and I like that both characters are feisty and passionate, and quite prepared to lock horns where necessary. I really enjoyed the exploration of the Indian way of life, and Whitney’s education in what exactly the local peoples needed, and while I had seen the big twist of the book coming from the beginning, I found it satisfying to read, and I liked how the author tied up the ending.

By far my favourite element of the book is the author’s descriptive approach; especially the fact that she takes the time to explore feelings and thoughts rather than just racing along with the plot. She makes use of perspective shifting to allow us to see the story from both sides:

Leaning her forehead against the cool pane of glass, Whitney stared out into the black night. What an unusual trick of fate that evening had played her! Little more than an hour ago the Glades and its inhabitants had been but words and pictures in her mind. She had inadvertently stumbled into a situation that was proving more educational than any book had ever been. That she had to appreciate. The strange things that the remarkable Indian was doing to her unraveling composure were another matter entirely…

White Eagle was watching his surprise guest, assessing her with a curiosity that would have stunned Whitney were she to know its cause. His crystal gaze softened momentarily; she looked like a beautiful, woebegone child as she stared out the window, her hair drying and fluffing around the delicate contours of her face; her arms clasped tightly around a slender form that seemed incredibly petite beneath the dropping tails of his huge shirt.

In all, I found this a quick, easy and enjoyable read; ideal for those who like traditional romance.

(As a side note, the author uses the term ‘Indian’ throughout the book to refer to the native people, which initially surprised me, as I had thought the politically correct term was ‘native American’. But when I researched the matter online, I learnt there is quite a debate on terminology in this area, and in fact, according to the US Census Bureau, most Americans prefer the term American Indian to native American. So I learnt something new from the book!)

This book was originally published in 2000, but if you missed it, this is a great opportunity to read it now.

I really have a love for Heather Graham books, and this one reminded me why. Heather uses her excellent character building in this novel to highlight the differences between the main characters that make them such a perfect match for each other. There are a lot of romances out there, but this one is unique. I liked that Heather didn't stick with the modern way of life for the tribe and thought it made this book a lot more rounded and enjoyable.

The story is basically built around a young woman who works for a land development company and is trying to convince the local Indian tribes that they would be better off living in provided housing. On her way to the hotel where she will be staying, she gets caught in a storm and meets a member of the tribe that has a sharp tongue, a quick wit and a strong male presence she can't seem to resist.

What I loved about the book, was the way Whitney's character was developed. She was headstrong and determined, and yet had enough feminine qualities to make her seem innocent and a perfect offset for her love interest. She came into the book with a past history that was believable and easy to comprehend and supported the way her character behaved throughout the rest of the story.

There was a portion of this story that just outright irked me. I won't include a spoiler here, but I will say it was the lake scene. It pretty much killed my like of the character White Eagle and I honestly wanted to slap him. I never felt the same about him after that.

Overall, this was a pretty compelling romance that kept me waiting to see what would happen next. There was an initial twist I wasn't really expecting and I liked that it didn't go exactly as I had thought it might.

I think fans of romance and fans of Heather Graham will definitely enjoy this book.

Tender Taming was a fairly enjoyable read. Whitney has gone to Florida to negotiate with the tribes there to have them release parts of their land for a new housing development. At first, I didn't like Whitney's character. She was arrogant and really should have done her research before heading to Florida for negotiations. I didn't blame White Eagle for playing a little joke on her. She redeemed herself in the end as she was genuinely willing to learn more about the tribes. The romance was a bit cheesy, but that is why we love these throwbacks, right? I enjoyed reading about the Seminole traditions and the Everglades on which their land sits. It made me want to go to Florida for a visit.

** I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review**

Although I do like some romance books, this one was just not one of my favorites from Heather Graham. I hated Whitney a lot! Her small minded mentality got on my nerves and I guess that is why I couldn't get past that and her finding any kind of hapiness with White Eagle. I really wasn't rooting for her at all.

Other readers might enjoy this tale though especially those who like stories that have Native American culture. This I found to be interesting when White Eagloe would tell Whitney about his tribe and some of their traditions and customs.

While Im not going to go deep in the plot as you can read any of the numerous other reviews here I am in agreement with a few of them at the same time.

I thought the book was well written and I am a fan of Heaher Graham. I did not like Whitney. I did like most of the character interaction between Whitney and White Eagle.
I thought there was a bit too much History for me. I dont read this genra to learn lots of details I read it to get lost for a few hours in someone elses life.

I like to be able to put my brain in slow motion and just be a spectator in my leisure reading.
I am rating it a 3. It is a middle of the road book to me.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

To be honest, I requested this book because of the title. ^_^

I didn't realize that this was re-edition book. I'm a fan of Heather Graham, and really liked her historical series North American Woman. I fairly enjoyed reading this one too. I think it has some ups and downs through out the book, but it still kept me on the edge and waiting to see what will happen next.

I really wanted to like it more than I did. For a self proclaimed PR guru, Whitney was an idiot with all of her assumptions. Plot was fairly predictable but still enjoyable. Loved White Eagle though.

What can I say? I've read the book three times and it's still on my shelf to read again. I love the whole story. It has some humor, sadness and a great love story.
