After spending most of my career as a newspaper journalist and later as a medical writer and editor, I recently began writing novels full-time. I enjoy creating settings in my home state of New Mexico, where my previous co-author and mother --the late Doris Holmes -- was also born. In particular, I love the Chihuahuan Desert where I have spent many magical hours exploring the outdoors.
I have always really liked murder mystery books. I always have trouble finding books that I can actually read and be interested in. But I feel like I actually succeeded this time. I really liked the story line of this book, I thought it would be boring because of the beginning but it picked up. I thought the beginning started off a little slow, but when she got on the plane, I think that it started to pick up. After she arrived at her sisters farm, I could hardly stop reading the book. I loved that she didn't even know her own brother-in-law, it really added an unknown feeling to the book. How she has never met her sisters brother and she is supposed to trust him when her sister mysteriously goes missing? I really enjoyed that detail. I am glad that I could find a book that I really enjoyed. It has been a while since I have done that. But I really like how this book was set up. Loved it!
The beginning of this book started off slow. The first chapter was filled with a lot of useless information that had no baring on the story line whatsoever. The end of the first chapter picked up though when Melinda was caught in a flash flood as she was on her way to her missing sisters ranch.
We finally get to the basis of the whole plot in chapter 3 when Melinda finally gets to the ranch. However again the story veers away from what this story is supposed to be about, with the token suggestion every once in a while.
Sadly this book was said to be a mystery which, I guess it was, with the disappearance of Melinda's sister. However it lacks something you can sink your teeth into. One good thing is there is no off color or offensive language or intimate situations that is found in most books today. For that reason alone I will give it 2 stars.
I liked this book for what it was. It was free on Kindle so I can't complain. It was a little slow at first but picked up later. It was pretty easy to figure out but kept my attention. I was slightly distracted by the editing though. I'm not one to nitpick punctuation but these errors were mostly missing words. It occupied my free time.
Gave up at 63%...right at the point where she wanted to fling herself into Mac's arms after almost being run down. Oh please. What would she see in the guy? I don't care if she finds her sister or not at this point.
Some of the scenes she can do it shorter. I have second thoughts about Preston. I think the author can be more clear about him and his real lifestyle before his sad death. Entertaining material.
Really good story - I was sad with one part of it, but won't spoil that!! I really enjoyed it and didn't want to put it down because I just needed to know what was going to happen.
Felt like a traditional love story with a little mystery mixed in. I think I was looking for more mystery, but if you like romance with the man saving the woman theme, this book is for you.
