Following the death of her father, seventeen year-old Grace Celadon moves with her twin sister to a lavish island off the coast of Massachusetts. There, the sisters become entwined with an enchantingly reckless group of teens. Like two side of a single coin, the twins spiral fast and wild into a blur of drugs and alcohol.

When strange things begin to happen all around them, Grace starts to wonder whether it is more than just the frightening hallucinations of drug highs that plague them. She begins to question whether it's possible that something sinister has rolled in from the breathtaking cliffs and pastures of the island to find them.

I signed up at the chance to read and review this book for the author. I received an ecopy of the book to read in exchange for my honest review!

This is one of those books where you're utterly flummoxed at the end. You aren't confused, but you just keep saying wow...yeah...wow! This book grasps your attention by using the second person from the get-go, instantly putting the reader into the shoes of Grace. The constant use of "you did this, you did that, you felt this" drags you in, willingly or not, and plops you in the driver seat of Grace. Incredibly effective at getting you to engage with the story. That being said, after a little bit, I started to find it annoying. Perhaps I found it annoying because at times I wanted to shake Grace by her shoulders, but really...am shaking myself since I felt as if I were Grace? I DON'T KNOW! lol Like I said, incredibly effective way to make the reader engage instantly.

There is a lot going on in this novel all centering around the twins, Grace and Jude, their grandmother that they had never met, and their past tragedy. The conversations and banter in this book are smooth, believable, dead on for teenage angst, growth, relationships, etc. Very well written! In fact, this played like a movie in my head...seamlessly streaming with vivid imagery. I could SEE that house, the grandmother, etc.

I really liked this one and would definitely recommend it be added to your reading list!

R2R: Cry Devil

(I received a free copy, in exchange for a review.)

It only takes one moment, in your life to change everything. Grace and Jude are identical twins, mirror images. One car accident, changes their lives, losing their father and parts of themselves. The only person to rescue them is their grandmother, who does so reluctantly. Parts of the night are missing from Grace's memory and the coma has not helped. She stays behind, in the hospital, with Jude moves to Vitoria, the island where their grandmother lives. Grace is allowed to travel there, after a few weeks and comes back to a person she can barely recognize. All of this leads to a strange journey, where not everyone gets out alive and no one is want they appear to be.

'The girl, laying there on the cold abandon asphalt road, blinked away tears as the heat in her body began to climb. She had been afraid, terrified that she had been on the brink of death or that she has died altogether. But looking upon the doe, she saw want true death looked like. The girl was not dead. She was alive, slowly finding her breath again.
The girl- alone in the darkness on that cold spring night, hearing no siren in the distance yet breathing more steadily with every passing moment- she was you.'

I have a rule, that if I cannot get into a book, by page 50, then I turn it in. But, since I received this book, for a review, I felt that it was only fair that I dig my feet in and continue. Am I happy I did so, half half. I found the writing style to be a bit annoying. I understand that the author was trying to place the reader in the main characters body, but the constant use of 'you' was the part that really turned me off. But, I continued on and was surprised with the direction the book turned and it had some interesting characters. The ending was a little surprise, wrapped up as a gift and it left it open for another possible continuation.

The story is told within the second person narrative, and when I first opened the book I just happened to be all alone so I decided to read it aloud. The opening paragraphs were chilling and hearing myself talk in this way sent shivers down my spine. Never is my life have a been so compelled by such a writing style. The opening of the story was intense yet enthralling. Grace and Jude suffer through a terrible loss and have to move to Vitoria to live with their grandmother Marilyn.

Jude has always been the spitting image of her twin sister Grace, yet as soon as she get to the island she changes — she dyes her hair lilac and becomes different – something Grace can’t understand. Trying to get close to her sister again she embarks on an unusual journey filled with drugs and witchcraft. The style of writing is haunting but very much beautiful at the same time, you almost forget in some parts it is a horror story. My emotions were so conflicted and changed at the drop of the hat when characters emotions changed. There is so much loss, hurt and betrayal going on with the six teens it’s almost too intense to read.

The book is definitely one of my most favourite stories I have ever read, it’s dark and mysterious and pulls you in in all the right places.

COVER ART

I honestly preferred the original cover as the new one isn’t my favourite, although it does add some intrigue.

{my thoughts} - This book is about two twin girls Jude and Grace Celadon. They are identical twin sisters in every which way. It is written in Grace’s point of view and begins with her in the hospital due to a fatal car accident that took the life of their father. Jude however, is living with your grandmother, waiting for you to get released.

This book starts out slow but it picks up, it touches topics such as love, betrayal, trust, religion, and many more. The title of the book truly matches it’s content and once you read it, you will be like “no way.” The ending was wonderfully written and wrapped the whole book up nicely.

{reason for reading} - I was given a copy of this book by the author in return for an honest review.

uses a unique writing voice to bring the reader into the story that makes you feel as though the reader is part of it, not merely watching. From early on, you are presented with a storyline that you want to know more about, while still being presented with enough background information to not lose who the characters are.

Everyone in this book has such a unique personality to add to the storyline. Definitely a more dark, more intense ride than I expected even from the start and the end.....completely unexpected!

When I received this book as the winner of a first reads giveaway, I wasn't sure what I was getting into. The book didn't seem to fit my current interests and the description provided wasn't grabbing my attention. I was so wrong. Once the action picked up, I couldn't put the book down. The characters are interesting and the story dark and twisting. V.S Ware wrote a note in the cover saying, "The devil is in the details." She couldn't be more accurate. Get ready for your jaw to drop.

Won this from goodreads giveaway. It's dark and twisted tale of twin sisters who's lives are changed by a car accident. They have to move to a new area and make friends with broken rich teens. There is dark magic and religous undertones that turn downright sinister. The ending was a shock and left me scared and a Little freaked out. Would be a great scarry movie!

This book is unlike any YA novel I have ever read. I could not put it down! The prologue alone is breathtaking and while the book takes a dark turn, the writing is so beautiful you forget there is even a hint of horror lurking in the shadows. Loved this book so much, definitely worth the read!

I felt kind of cheated by the ending. I was really enjoying the story and was really engrossed in it, but the ending felt like a big let down.
