This story was exciting and well thought out. By the end of the book I was a little in love with the love interest myself! The main character, Tia, is a three dimensional lead and very loveable herself.

This book has layers and layers to it, and just when you think everything has been uncovered, Loren Lockner unveils a new surprise.

It's actually rare that I can't fault a book. There's always something which irks me or distracts me from the story. Not here. This was a completely enjoyable read with danger, romance, intrigue and a great ending.

Hold on tight because this book will shock you out of your seat. It will leave you gasping as you think, what on earth is going to happen next? While the true question is, who can you trust?

We are greeted by a murder. Then we meet Tia Heath--a twenty-nine year old, single, successful children’s book author. Her father is the owner of a successful company but information was leaked, which leads to disaster. Unbeknownst to Tia, she was content residing in Alaska. Unfortunately, her life changed one stormy evening when two gentlemen entered it, Steve Newcastle and Jon Simons. Unexpectedly, her ex-boyfriend pays her a visit the next day. Her encounter with these characters, lead to an unbelievable turn of events. It all leads back to the question, who committed the murder? Timberline Trail is an interesting read filled with intense scenes in an incredible setting. Tia's character is someone you could relate to but I felt that there was something missing with her and can't quite put my finger on it.. That's the only reason I give it 4 stars.
The story was well developed and it will keep you trying to guess who did it? That is until you get to the end and are surprised by the events that have occurred. It was also clean and there were no grammatical issues that I noticed.
There's some romance and action. A very nice suspenseful romance book!

In the heart of Hollywood near Hollywood and Vine, in an alleyway a murder is committed. The killer, Andrew Carson, uses his Glock on a man begging for his life; his last words, ”I promise not to tell anyone about Timberline Trail.” The corpse was one of “California’s finest.”

The story then moves forward ten months later, to Alaska and Tia Heath, the beautiful story’s protagonist who writes children’s books. The reader is then introduced to Tia, her family, and Alaska. The Alaskan descriptions are every bit as breathtaking as the geography itself in the author’s details. Tia is twenty-nine, single, and from a rich family. Her father Anthony, with his partner, own a computer company. Her mother died when she was 48 of ovarian. And her brother RK, who she secretly admires, refuses to go the family business route. Initially learning that Tia was engaged and now has an ex fiancé, the reader gains an understanding of her relationship trust issues. There’s a mystery creating tension right from the first pages; Tia is unaware of being watched. And the first watcher is being watched by someone else in a blue parka. Blue parka man cut the cables on the first guys car so it stalled. Also interjected into the story, Tia has a visitor from her friend Mary Whitebird. Mary comes bearing cantaloupe and gossip; she’s seen a new handsome man in town who is looking for property. There’s enough intrigue in the first couple of chapters to glue me to the page as the mystery and intensity heightens with each page turn.

The story progresses and a snow storm hits . A pounding knock on Tia’s door reveals a tall good-looking stranger, Steve Newcastle, whose care is stalled. Unable to leave due to the poor weather, she makes him a meal and we find out that he’s a recent divorcee. Will he be a love interest? While he’s eating, there’s another loud yell and knock on the door. Another man is there screaming that he has a wounded wolf needs tending to from a gunshot. Tia knows the wolf, named Sugar, who she and her father raised since an abandoned cub. He becomes a great addition as the story progresses and Tia finds herself in dire straits. The man with the wolf is named Jon and he ends up staying over also. Tia has a strange attraction and comfort with him and again I wonder if he will be a love interest. When there’s mention that both Steve & Jon regret that their “weapons” are locked in their car, there’s a sense of foreboding. I want to know where this is headed. And will Tia fall for one of the men? Are they stalking her? Is there more to come? There’s mention of a scandal involving her father and the death of his partner. And how does all this fit with the initial murder in Hollywood? And who are the copter load of men in suits who arrived just before Tia’s ex fiancé mysteriously shows up? How do all the pieces connect? The answers come with surprises: a truck goes over an embankment, gunshots, being on the run with the wolf, etc. The author does a great job of upping the suspense. No spoilers here but suffice it to say this was an entertaining read that drew me and held my attention right down to the satisfying ending.

Timberland Trail is an epic crime thriller. It has the type of storyline that keeps you wanting to read faster so you know what happens next. It has a fantastic plot with action, intrigue and the all important romantic element. Both well written and encapsulating, it is certainly a book I would recommend!

Timberline Trail is a romantic suspense that begins with a murder in California then jumps to the back country of Alaska. The main character, Tia, is happy living a secluded and peaceful life in Alaska. Her cabin provides the isolation she requires as an author of children’s books. Then suddenly her world is invaded by not one but two mysterious men. One is there to protect her, the other for more nefarious reasons. But, which is which? As the story progresses the main character Tia, as well as the reader, is left wondering who to trust as one character after another is added to the mystery. The author does a great job describing the area and the natural habitat of Alaska. There are several twists and turns as Tia tries to make sense of what is happening to her and why. The suspense aspect worked better for me than the romance aspect of this novel but overall I did enjoy the story and would recommend it to others.

Beautifully written, this book immediately draws you in with a mysterious murder. My senses perked thereafter every time I read mention of Timberline or trails. It's not my typical reading but I'm glad I bought it. I identify with the main character, in particular her appreciation for solitude - she's a strong character. All the other characters are as mysterious as the start. I would recommend this book for someone looking to escape into a suspenseful story with an Alaskan setting. There's even some romance thrown in there.

Who killed who? This is an intriguing story line, jaw dropping twists and the pages turn themselves, you do not want to put the book down. Tia Heath, single successful her life changes one stormy night. I don't want to give too much of the plot away but the question throughout is who did it. Highly recommended.

I loved it! Tia and Jon, the two main characters, were great. I enjoyed all the unexpected twists and turns throughout the book. The plot was wondefully written with lots of intrigue and suspense. I love animals and enjoyed reading about the Alaskan wildlife and especially "Sugar" the wolf. I definitely plan on reading more of Loren Lockner's books!
