Rate this book
The perfect gift for Mother's Day, this is a delightful treasury of nostalgia that gives an intimate, impressionistic portrait of the America of 1900. Possessing an eye for engaging detail and charming sentiment, Rutledge perfectly captures the amazing changes that have taken place in America since the turn of the century.

Really fascinating look at how times have changed since 1900 when life expectancy was 47, only 8% of homes had a telephone, Coca Cola contained cocaine instead of caffeine, banks paid 4-6% interest, sugar was four cents a pound, etc. I've read my coffee several times and it amazes me every time.
