This was my first short story and my first book from Dee DeTarsio. I have to say that it was very well written, especially for it being such a short book. The author’s sense of humor definitely came out in all the characters. MaryBeth was a little annoying with her whole obsession with Dean Dineno, but I guess that’s how some of us girls sound like when we are crushing over a hot guy. If you’re in the mood for a short funny cheeky girl story, I recommend reading this book.

The plot wasn't all that enticing but the way it was written was great. I laughed out loud quite a few times. I loved the metaphors so much that I wish I had thought of them myself. I will look for more by this author!

This romantic comedy quick pick (as it’s marketed) tells the story of the Heroine Mary-Beth, a naïve country girl and the man she is in total infatuation with - Dean.

Mary-Beth is a copywriter with an upmarket advertising agency and has to devise a marketing strategy for a new celebrity perfume. She uses her crush on ad executive Dean as her inspiration in creating all her campaigns.

Dee DeTarsio has a really great premise in this book which could have been developed further into a much more substantial and promising romance or romantic comedy.

Instead we get a novella with an incredibly naïve heroine and a male I originally believed to be the hero, instead Dean is nothing but a cheating schmuck and I couldn’t connect with him.

Mind you Mary-Beth’s morals left a lot to be desired. Rule #1 Don’t screw your boss’s boyfriend.

To add insult to injury the dialogue in this book is incredibly immature and at times I felt as if I were reading an R rated young adult novel. The likeness stops right there as you get into the elevator for the first love scene and the narrative practically takes you on an engineering lesson and an exploration of lift mechanics.

Fortunately the end came and with a positive outcome, Mary-Beth meets the love of her life. I'd really love to read that book.

Highlights:
• One of the biggest highlights was to read a book where the romance author had the courage to break all the rules. It's refreshing.

Lowlights:
• I didn’t laugh. Not once.
• I felt quite bogged down in the immaturity of both the story and the dialogue.
• Character names could be improved e.g. "La-ura"

Summing Up:
I applaud the author for her bravery in putting this book on the market. Would I read another book by this author? Absolutely because you can't judge an author on just one book.

Cute

Are you looking for a no brained? Something to just make you smile. This is the story. No characters to track. The setting is familiar, even if you've never really been there. No nightmares or creepy feelings to keep you awake. You can even turn the light out without checking the door locks, closets and under the bed.
