No ha gustado nunca Georges Duby. No es ya que escriba mal, porque lo hace realmente mal. Me resulta insultante llamarle historiador. Duby ojea fuentes dipersas, estoy seguro que de forma parcial, y luego elucubra en su cabeza sobre historias fantásticas totalmente desconectadas de la realidad. Muchos de los historiadores relevantes académicamente son idealistas y metafísicos, pero aún así no le dan la espalda totalmente a la realidad.

En este libro se repasa la vida (bueno, las majaderías de Duby sobre ellas) de 7 personalidades femeninas del siglo XII, aunque también se incluye a María Magdalena. Se abunda en los tópicos de que el medievo era misógino y negativo para las mujeres, pero no se atisba ni un mínimo esfuerzo por tratar de entender las razones de esta lógica.

En fin, porquería de autor, por lo tanto porquería de libro.

I confess to being a bit disappointed, both because, most sources from the 12th century being written by monks, we know very little about the life of women during that time, and because the author used throughout a very serious tone, in spite of some of the material lending itself to quite a humorous analysis. So overall this is a very serious book, which concludes that really we know about the men of that period but not the women. Women in those times were seen as vilely provoking desire, while not being as easily controlled as they should be, and one never knew what they thought… I concluded that perhaps the view of men on women has not really changed 900 years later!

Ia dar 4 estrelas porque A Eva e os Padres é um livro bom demais. No entanto, tiveram partes muito maçantes. Mas, a escrita do Georges Duby é fluída e maravilhosa demais. É um livro prazeroso de ler.
