Wrong about Mr. Wright

Rate this book
Snowstorms have a way of changing everything.

Ronni Carlisle is convinced that her early retirement plan just got buried under the snowdrifts of Juniper Springs.

Ronni has one Christmas goal. Get to South Tahoe, convince a developer to use her as their realtor, secure her early retirement before close of business on Christmas Eve. All in a day’s work.

What she didn’t count on was a snowstorm, a bullheaded but gentle man, and an airport full of stranded passengers and nothing remotely festive to cheer them with.

Hank’s about had it with her snappish, snobbish attitude. She’s about had it with his challenging her long-held opinions.

They’ve both had it with fighting something neither is ready to admit to.

What will it take for them o yield enough to make this Christmas the first of many beautiful ones… together?

**fingers skittle across the keyboard. Stop. Eyelids blink over the top**

Oh, was this bio day? Oops! I forgot. I was lost in my latest manuscript. Umm... bio. Yeah.

Hi! I’m Chautona Havig. (for those who care, that’s Shuh-TONE-uh HAVE-ig). Yeah. Just work with me here. I should have used a pseudonym, but when you grow up with a name like Chautona, it kind of sticks.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. ~ Hebrews 10: 23–25

Those aren’t just words on a page for me–they’re why I write. I write to encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ. The stories I create are to make people laugh, cry, question, consider.

They’re for you.

When the world screams for hope, I try to point you to the true Source of hope–Jesus.

Sometimes life in the church no longer seems a refuge from the pain of a self-serving world around us, but through my stories, I try to point you to the only Refuge that can truly help–the Father’s Everlasting Arms.

And sometimes we just need an escape from the monotony, the emptiness we see around us. We need joy, laughter–what I like to call “just the write escape.”

Christian fiction without apology or pretense–lived, not preached.
What does that even mean?
It means I care–about you. About your walk with Jesus. I care about the words you put before your eyes, the mental pictures those words conjure. It’s difficult to express just how much I love my brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s difficult to share just how much I love you.

But I do.

And I write for you. I sit in my little house in California’s Mojave Desert and I write to show you why one sister believes one thing, why a brother believes another. I write to show you how some Christians handle trials or triumphs–for you. So when you’re faced with something–good or bad, it doesn’t matter–maybe it’ll spark a memory. Maybe that memory will smolder until you pull out your Bible and see what the Lord said about it–about His great love for you. For YOU!

And maybe, just maybe, you’ll share that love with another hurting, confused, or blessed-with-more-than-she-knows-what-to-do-with soul.

I just happen to think that’s the most blessed giving anyone could hope to receive.

Challenge Prompt: CFG’s “A 2023 title you wanted to read but couldn’t get to.”

Book #32 of 2024: I appreciated that this had a couple in their 50s. You don’t see that much at all.

The FMC was difficult to take for the early part of the book. The MMC is a wonderful man that you can’t help but like. We do see a softer, kinder side brought out in the FMC as the story goes on. The spirit of Christmas, and the wonderful man, break down the walls.

I’ve read a lot of Havig’s books. I didn’t connect with this one as much as others but it was a nice read.

Havig comes up with the most fun plots! I loved meeting Ronni and Hank, and watching them meet each other—neither under very good circumstances! As a single woman, I can relate to Ronni’s wanting to marry someone who has good qualities—but I have wondered before how helpful it is to have a specific “shopping list” of what we’re looking for in a partner. I wrote up a list once when I was 13 or 14, and it’s fun to look back on now—some are still important to me, but most are completely unnecessary!

What Ronni had to battle with here, though, in learning to trust God to provide what she needed, was a good challenge to me. He does know what’s best, and often our ideals aren’t actually based on what we need—their basis is more in fear.

This is not a long story, but it’s a sweet one. I could identify with Ronni quite a bit—and loved watching her grow throughout the story. The ending is lovely, too. If you want a quick, fun read, check this novella out.

I requested a free review copy of this book, and this is my honest opinion of it.

This was a fun Christmas story—and had a lot to think about woven through it! Ronni arrived in Hank's house kicking and screaming (figuratively), with a list of requirements that had ruled out all possible relationships with a man up to this time. As she and Hank were forced to spend several days together, however, she was forced to take a good hard look at her life and attitudes, now that she had given her life to the Lord. What she saw was not pretty—what would she do about it? This process of thinking things through is well worth reading—and the story as a whole is fun!
I received a free copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, and these are my honest thoughts about it.

sweet and fun Christmas novella

What a sweet and fun Christmas novella! From a panicked phone call from a friend asking for help caring for stranded airline passengers to Hank then taking the most difficult passenger home with him in a snowstorm, this story takes off in a whirlwind. Ronnie and Hank are forced to spend 2 days together due to the snowstorm. I enjoyed how both of the characters developed throughout this story. Ronnie, a newer believer, struggles to be different in her treatment of others. Hank calmly and kindly shows Ronnie how her attitude and behavior are wrong and helps her realize she needs to make things right. I recommend this book for a sweet literary escape, be it Christmas or not.

Love reading about an older generation. If you enjoy Hallmark Christmas stories, I think this would fit the bill wonderfully. Ronnie is one of those characters that I wasn't sure if I liked? I was annoyed by her but I didn't dislike her. I really enjoyed seeing the progression of someone actually trying to steer her into a more Christian character. Hank is a really neat guy that somehow felt a bit too perfect (hence my Hallmark remark ;)) but he served a very good purpose and his intention was to be Christlike and reflect that in his day to day life.

I think if this could have been a full length novel it could have really been done amazingly. It was a fun light-hearted read that was very timely for needing some rest.

When the perfect husband list is wrong

Ronni was uptight and rude until Hank challenged her about her actions being not in line with what the bible said. A delightful read that reminds the reader of the need to show grace and love to others.

Christmas is for giving

I love this author, every book delights and this is no exception. When Ronni's plans go awry, she finds herself giving up her lists, giving stranded passengers a Christmas to remember and giving away her heart.

A sweet, romantic, yet thought-provoking Christmas novella. There are some good discussion questions at the end. Would make an interesting read for a book club.

Did not finish

Stopped reading in the chapter discussing yoga. Former yoga teacher turned Christian. Nope. Don't agree. Ronni was on the right track until Hank.

Wrong About Mr. Wright by Chautona Havig was adorable. Layered characters, even an eccentric character or two, made this festive and funny tale just perfect for Christmastime. With a hot cocoa ;)

Fun Christmas story. When God brings two people together no plans that they form will actually happen. This story shows when you focus on what God has planned it will come to pass.

I really enjoyed what the author did with the two main characters in this book. Neither turned out to be who I thought they were going to be when I first met them. Both had surprising depths, and I thoroughly enjoyed being along for the ride for their transformations. I loved the way they interacted and how they brought out the best in each other. I also loved how they discussed Scripture and weren't afraid to lovingly confront sin in each other's lives. But my favorite part of the story was the way it fit in with the larger collection of stories in the Crossroads Collection it was first released in. The authors did an amazing job weaving their stories together seamlessly!
