Simple text and photographs, both modern and historical, detail the history of the pledge and the reasons for it, as well. I really like the Pebble Go books and have many in my elementary library collection. This one will be a replacement for an older book that I have with the same title.
In one or two sentences per two-page spread, Monroe provides a very brief introduction to the history of the Pledge of Allegiance and how it ties in with the national flag code. Colorful illustrations accompany each line of text. Teachers who hoped to have line-by-line or word-by-word interpretation of the Pledge will be disappointed, but those who need a springboard to introduce the tradition of saying the Pledge of Allegiance daily in class may find this useful for preschoolers, kindergartners, and even early elementary students. The large pages and colorful illustrations make the volume a good choice for reading aloud to groups, as well.
