Lisa McMann lives and writes in the Phoenix area. Her newest middle grade fantasy series is called The Forgotten Five. Book one, Map of Flames, was an instant NYT bestseller. It's about five supernatural kids, raised in a deserted hideout, who enter civilization for the first time to search for a hidden stash left behind by their missing, criminal parents.
Book two, The Invisible Spy, is on sale now! Book three, Rebel Undercover, is coming summer 2023, and book 4 will be out in spring of 2024.
Also out now: CLARICE THE BRAVE. It's a story of hope against all odds, about sibling mice who get separated in a mutiny and vow to find one another again.
Lisa's other books include the NYT bestselling THE UNWANTEDS and UNWANTEDS QUESTS series, the GOING WILD trilogy, the YA paranormal WAKE trilogy, the VISIONS trilogy, CRYER'S CROSS, DEAD TO YOU, and INFINITY RING: The Trap Door.
I am writing about the third book, the Island of Fire. This book was not as great in the character department as the other ones. In this book the characters developed great emotions, but in the first two there was something between Alex and Lani and in this book it starts to break. It is great for a romance novel but I feel like Meg is a fifth wheel now with Sam and Lani and Sky and Alex. Meg might still have Cole but I don't know if Cole ever came back. I think that at the end of the book when Aaron comes to see if Alex saw the explosion too. I think that Aaron was trying to look out for Alex a little. I think if Aaron was forced to live in Artime then he would be ok as a person, but Aaron always pushes away emotion and doesn't let what he needs in. It says at the end that Aaron has more magic in him than we thought. I'm ok with the character emotional change but i am not really a romance book liker. As long as there is no awkwardness between the friends then i will be perfectly fine.

I have only read the first and second books, but they were both AWESOME!!!!!!! I loved these books so much. I think it is kind of creepy how in Island of Silence they weave thorns into Alex and his friend's necks, and I am really wondering if they ever get them out. If you haven't already read these books, you should.
This series is good for kids. Unlike Harry Potter and The Hunger Games (to which this is compared), this series is really geared towards a younger audience.
May I ask why the heck Alex always has to mess up and start wars?!?! HE IS A FREAKING TEENAGER, NOT A TWENTY-YEAR-OLD!!! WHY?!?!?!??!?!?!? He is just a child! Seriously. And, if Mr. Today would have sent somebody else to tell Gunnar Haluki that he was leaving, he would still be alive and Artime would have easily won each battle. I just wanna know why a teenager started a war at the age of freaking 13 years old. Ever feel like you wanna just take Alex over your knee? I cried the whole series. But, I guess those are the best parts of the book. I just wanna know why this teenager is so stupid. LOL! I cried even harder when Meghan died in "Island of Shipwrecks". WHY?!?!
I still love these books more than anything on the earth. This book series and TLOS are tied up. If "The Unwanteds Quests" are just as good, I am definitely choosing this as my favorite book series.

A few years ago, I got a little taste of this series and knew I would like it. I always had others book to read so I put it off. My youngest picked it up one day because she couldn’t find anything she liked. I’m really enjoying this read with my 6th grader. It’s an added bonus that she begs to do her reading homework right now. It’s a fun fantasy read. The only thing hard for me is we are only reading 100 pages a week. 😂😂Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
I love this series, which is set in a society that separates all thirteen-year-olds into three groups: the Wanteds, who will train for the Quillitary (leadership positions), the Necessaries (the laborers), and the Unwanted (those considered useless). The "useless" are those who are artistic or overly thoughtful and questioning. Yes, it is a fantasy, but the themes are all too real. Just who/what is valued in a society?
All of these books are great. The story, the characters, and the magic that is holding everything together. Every book has its own uniqe story that is told in both good and bad perspectives. Over all I recomend these books to anyone who wants to read a good adventure/magic book
