Readers who like their contemporary cowboy romance on the spicier side might enjoy this. For me, the book seemed to have an identity crisis as far as its romance genre status. The characters are emotionally all over the place and that was wearing. Overall, pretty good.

Guilt can eat away at your conscience so badly it will ultimately destroy you, sending you over the cliff's edge and there simply will be no way to make it out alive. Being able to get up and still go on whilst living with the guilt as if nothing ever happened is something only a very strong person can do, that is while the world is watching.
When night comes the guilt ramps so high it is as if flames are burning a hole into your soul. Seeking a moment of relieve in any way or form is sometimes the only way to momentarily forget your troubles and leave behind the everyday world of hurt. But when you run back to the person responsible for the guilt simply because you cannot resist them, how will you ever move past it?
In the new read from Melissa Cutler this is the life of Rachel. Ever since she can remember she has been there for her family, especially for her sisters. From the moment their father dies she is right there to step in and take care of the land, the daily chores all to ensure her sisters have the chance to live and not be burdened in any manner or face any form of trouble.
But even Rachel is only human and soon she falls at the hands of temptation when my-tie-is-not-just-for-official-use Vaughn walks onto her porch. Their affair is as off limits as it is hot, and the guilt eats at their souls while the flames of desire burns higher and higher. They cannot be together yet they cannot live without each other and the law coming after them both makes it seem that this is one relationship that will never find it's happy ending.
The character of Rachel was absolutely stunning. Strong, confident, always fighting to get everything done even if it means getting shot to protect her family. A true kick ass heroine! I loved that the author let Rachel be so strong willed in making sure everything is always in tack for her family even though it was in direct contrast with her feelings of never really ever being in tack herself.
Rachel falling apart in little bits in pieces when the real world is no where to be seen showed she was as human and real as they come and that like most of us when you think there are other lives depending on you, you stash it away for all it will do is show you are weak, a very realistic touch very nicely done by the author.
The character of Vaughn was true hero material but also such a jackass. The author let him be the sort of man you want to be all over with in a heartbeat simply because he is all kinds of total deliciousness but at the same time because he has a sense of understanding and the ability to ease pain but only to the extent where it reaches the point when his work comes into the picture.
Once his work steps in all the understanding and caring takes of faster than a outlaw on the run and right here is where the jackass part steps in and all I wanted to do was grab a piece of medal and hit some sense into him! But when the author started digging deeper into his mind I found the answer to him being the way he is and then the author did the brilliant job of crafting the perfect hero from a broken man, simply adored the end result, Melissa you had my heart melting with each slice of pie being offered!
The backdrop settings very vividly described by the author, I felt as if I was able to see the land and hear the sounds of galloping horses and gunfire. The dialogue was a combination of passionate heat, emotional dramatic words that brought me as reader tears of joy and heartache, but above all it was so extremely sexy at times that it not only set alight the pages but is guaranteed to turn the temperature of the coldest place on earth into nothing but a raging fire of flames hotter than the Texas sun.
I am taking away a message of when hiding the guilt you feel from the people that love you the end result when the truth is revealed might be more surprising then finding out you like it rough between the sheets. And backing away from love when your love is all that can save someone is one of the biggest mistakes you can make for when the chance to gain them back comes rolling around the damage might already be to severe to repair.
The author also touched on the life of Rachel's sister Jenna and her love interest and gave just enough insight to let you know Jenna's story will be filled with even more mind blowing awesomeness from Catcher Creek, Melissa write faster and bring me more!
I highly recommend this read for all fans of kick ass, totally awesome, rocking, brilliant romance reads. The author delivers on each and every page. A sensual, sweet, sexier than a Stetson wearing cowboy, hotter than hot, emotionally packed dramatic filled read that will not only leave you breathless and begging for more but also with a overwhelming need to step and break away any chains of hurt you may have holding you down.

Being the second book in a series, I know there are things I've missed out on by not having read the first one. Every now and then the author hints at something that happened in the first book, which made me wonder what she was talking about. Some things were explained to an extent later, but I was left with that nagging feeling that I should have picked up the first book before diving into this one.
The basics are that the three Sorentino sisters have transformed their ranch to some tourist thing to bring in the money and keep the ranch going. Something that has been a success. However, this success is cutting into someone else's profits of a different kind, and vandalism of the Sorentino property ensues.
Things get really hairy when Rachel Sorentino is shot and wounded. Enter Sheriff Vaughn Cooper. Yum. He's crazy about Rachel, and Rachel is secretly crazy about him too, but is in deep denial. These two hook up every now and then, and then one or the other has second thoughts about it, and they dance around each other, pretending like nothing is going on between the two of them.
All the back and forth between Rachel and Vaughn was pretty tiresome, which is why I docked this story half a star. The reasons why I did give it such high rating is because despite the annoying back and forth, these characters are solid. They're easy to like, and even love. They're so well written you actually do care about what is happening to them, and you're rooting for them to get together.
What had me glued to my Kindle, was them trying to solve the mystery of the vandalism, why the Sorentino ranch was left nearly bankrupt, and trying to find out exactly who shot Rachel and why. This was so well written I hated to put the book down so that I could get a few hours of sleep. I just love a book that keeps me that engaged. If you're getting this book, I would recommend to get the first one in the series, but it is not a must. You can get away with just jumping into this one, but be prepared to have some plot questions when there are references to the first book.

Cowboy Justice (Catcher Creek) by Melissa Cutler.
Cowboy Justice opens with a modern day gun battle. With Rachel Sorentino protecting her land against “four high on drugs” vandals. And it is a fantastic read all the way through. It will take you through the family history of both Rachel and Vaughn. And gives more insight into who they are and why they are the way they are.
Rachel Sorentino has been trying to hold on to her family’s ranch “Heritage Farm’s” with help from her sisters Jemma and Amy. They are hoping to turn it around ever since their Father ran it into the ground. I just adored Rachel’s character. She was strong, firm in her beliefs and while she struggled to sometimes relate to humans she came through in the end.
I loved the character of Sheriff Vaughn Cooper. A sexy man with a badge and a gun. Vaughn loved using his uniform tie for other things than dressing as sheriff. While the sheriff might fit every woman’s dream of good man, he did have a major flaw … his priorities. The job always came first with him and to a point I understood. He was trying to end the career of a law breaking sheriff, but at what cost?
Rachel and Vaughn’s love story is the main focus. While the main part of their history was from a year and a half ago it seems these two can’t forget each other and can’t forget the passion that burns for them both. There is a really passionate scene in the stables with Vaughn tying Rachel’s hands.
I loved the secondary characters of Jemma, Amy, Vaughn’s parents Greg and Maria. I really enjoyed the talks Vaughn had with his father. And I really loved the talk between Jemma and Rachel about the loss of their mother. I also thought Melissa did a great job of describing the landscape of New Mexico. I have driven through New Mexico before and it is just as she described in this book.
A Couple of favorite lines:
“I’m about to kill some men, Vaughn. You better get to Parillas Valley fast, and bring an ambulance.”
Pathetic, how a four-week affair a year and a half ago had screwed him up so royally.

This is the second book in the Catcher Creek Series. I have to say I loved this one more. I received an ARC for an honest review.
Vaughn Cooper "Cowboy Lawman" Sheriff of Catcher Creek is surprised to see Rachel Sorrentino's number show up on his phone. Then he answers and all she says is "get here fast I'm about to kill some men." He rushes to the Sorrentino farm and sees Rachel sitting by a tree hurt. It takes all he can to command the scene and not let on his feelings for Rachel.
Rachel Sorrentino is the oldest of the three sisters. All her life she has taken on the responsibility of raising her sisters even with her parents alive. After both have passed away they found out their Dad had lost everything and they were about to lose the farm. In order to save it they decided to open a Dude Ranch. Only someone doesn't want them to succeed. Rachel doesn't tell her sisters about the threats until she gets in over her head.
Now it's up to Vaughn and Rachel to find out what is going on without getting involved again. Their relationship has always been a secret (or is it?). Someone is trying to close the sisters down and the stakes have risen.
Can Vaughn keeps his feelings under wraps so he can do his job the way it needs to be done?

When Trouble hits Rachel Sorentino's Ranch it comes in spades. Leave it to Vaughn Cooper to come to the rescue.
When Rachel and her sisters hit hard time, what more can they do to keep their fathers Alfalfa farm up and running....why convert it into a dude ranch of course. Only problem is some of the locals don't seem to like the mixing of the old west and the new ways. They'd prefer to keep things quiet and simple. When graffiti starts showing up around their property Rachel takes it upon herself to get rid of trouble, but this time trouble came prepared to fight back! Even with her camera, gun and her noble steed...the troublemakers have high-powered weapons and a getaway truck. As she begins snapping photos behind her hideout they spot her and soon the bullets begin to fly!
When a call from Rachel comes direct to Vaughn he can't help but wonder why she's calling him. She walked away from what they had and never looked back. Once he hears that she's in trouble and getting fired at he doesn't hesitate and jumps in to rescue her, but once he begins investigating who the troublemakers were his troubles begin. Turns out the "hooligans" are some "friends" of none other than the big city Sheriff son, who is use to being able to break the laws and get away with it thanks to his pops position and connections.
As the case unravels more, Rachel is sent home to recover, while her sisters help out with ranch duties with the foreman. As she begins to try and discover what caused the ranch to die off her troubles only get worse, it turns out that there was more going on than Rachel or any of her family was ever aware of! As she's recovering and trying herself to find out where things went wrong, she discovers there is more to Vaughn then she knew.
Vaughn can't help but be around Rachel. he knows troubles going to come back, but he also knows that being around or with her compromises this case...the one case that could pivot his career in the direction he's wanted it to for a very long time. But as he tried to keep away she keeps coming back and someday...soon...they'll have a hard time keeping their hands off each other.
As they both realize that being together is nothing but trouble for both of them right now, they find out the towns people have been talking about them. They can't undo what was already done, but for now they have to keep it professional, but the hooligans pop has a different idea in mind and soon Vaughns family is now thrown into the mix. he's torn and troubled, but knows he has to stay focused to solve this case.
Once they solve the case though, can he get through to Rachel that they should...not should...HAVE TO be together? You'll have to read t find out. *wink*

Book 2 in the Catcher Creek series, Cowboy Justice is a strong contemporary suspense novel. It was so well plotted that I found myself reading way too late into the night, trying to find a pause point I could live with - unsuccessfully! As I read the first book, I followed quite easily, but some may find the back story a bit harder to put together. This novel was a case where the romance did not get in the way of the suspense story - it actually served to move the story along. I found myself fully invested in the lead couple's happily ever after. The mystery was well plotted, and twisted and turned appropriately and quickly. The pacing was even, the settings detailed well, and the dialogue was appropriate to the characters and situations.

Absolutely fantastic! Melissa Cutler did it again! She is consistant with her gripping stories that includes intriguing characters and a suspenseful plot. Her characters always have a great connection that makes you cheer for them to be together! This is definitely a must read!

Really 4.5 Stars
FTC: I requested this from NetGalley, but I love Melissa’s work. She is also a gem to work with. Make of that what you will.
So, this is the second in the cowboy series that first introduced me to this lady’s work. Darker, with a deeper suspense thread, this one is a very different book to the previous story. With a truly horrible bad-guy, two self-sacrificing lead characters and a whole heap of backwards logic, I was truly hoping that the two lead characters could overcome their nearly impossible situation and live happily ever after. Of course, those impossible circumstances helped create the tension that kept me hooked...
The chemistry between the two characters literally flows off the page. Together, I thought they fit seamlessly and this was shown in moments that proved what a lovely relationship they could have. The sex scenes were wonderfully kinky and hot, the leading man seeming to have a fetish for using cowboy related tools to restrain his lovely lady (a scene in a barn is a particularly memorable addition to the book in all the right ways ;D). Apart is where the problems lay for our couple, their overactive sense of responsibility meaning that there was always a reason that the relationship wouldn’t work. I honestly wanted to smash their heads together. At the start of the book, the reason for their separation is the fact that he is the leading officer in the case against her. That I got. Then everyone knew about them and suddenly the reasons became more convoluted. The stem of it all was, in their heads, they couldn't have happiness as they were both solely responsible for everything that had ever gone wrong in their lives... ever. This led to the aforementioned violent thoughts towards these fictional characters.
Vaughn was a solid alpha hero. Tasked to try to prove that Rachel is innocent, he knows that he can’t get involved with her without having to remove himself from the case. Of course, chemistry over-powers them and they end up with a few rather saucy encounters. They never seemed to quite work it out though and I agreed with his Father’s assessment of the situation (you shall see) and don’t believe that he tried too hard to make it work. He was more than happy to share her bed, but whenever it got a little bit rocky he was more than happy to see her push him away. I didn’t get it. It wasn’t an endearing trait and he frustrated me... well, until the pie :D Rachel was equally frustrating. Blaming herself for her mother’s suicide, she then took that to mean she should never be happy herself and live exclusively for everyone else. I loved her with Vaughn, and loved her spunk at the beginning of the book (although I shed a little tear at that scene), but individually she was too much of a martyr not to annoy me. It is very frustrating as a reader when the H/h are apart simply because they refuse to recognise that which is obvious to everyone else in the book. I say frustrating but it certainly keeps the pages turning.
The side plots were exactly that; they didn’t take up too many pages, they kept the suspense level high and they pushed the romance plot along nicely. I read romance for romance and this book was the right balance of romance and suspense to keep me happy. The sex scenes were beyond steamy, an element of kink introduced that I really did not expect from Sheriff Vaughn! Honestly, there was very little not to like about this book.
This book is one I know I will reread. The alpha hero, the cowboy kink and the suspense are all things that I can read again and again whilst still enjoying. Melissa Cutler has, once again, produced a cowboy book that I can adore.

The side plots were exactly that; they didn’t take up too many pages, they kept the suspense level high and they pushed the romance plot along nicely. I read romance for romance and this book was the right balance of romance and suspense to keep me happy. The sex scenes were beyond steamy, an element of kink introduced that I really did not expect from Sheriff Vaughn! Honestly, there was very little not to like about this book.
This book is one I know I will reread. The alpha hero, the cowboy kink and the suspense are all things that I can read again and again whilst still enjoying. Melissa Cutler has, once again, produced a cowboy book that I can adore.

This was definitely my favorite of the three books due to the challenges that Rachel and Vaughn faced to be together as well as the excellent suspense throughout.
Rachel is just fantastic--a tough as nails rancher who can wield a shotgun in one hand and a beer in the other. She keeps her business to herself, not even admitting to her sisters that she's sleeping with the sheriff. She's an awesome no-nonsense throwback to the old-west cowgirls, but even the strongest of women needs companionship, and hot and dirty sex sometimes! While I understood Vaughn's need for secrecy given the position he's in, my heart broke for Rachel being his dirty little secret for so long. Vaughn was so self-absorbed and only thinking about the end game with the Chief of Police that he hurt Rachel again and again. His moral compass was simply not operating at full capacity when it came to her. I did love them together, but damn was I frustrated by the obstacles in their way! The two had great chemistry and the rough and raunchy sex scenes absolutely scorched the pages.
COWBOY JUSTICE had a great plot and storyline that kept me tensed and primed for the danger the Sorentino family was in as well as the ability of Rachel and Vaughn to build a relationship. This is an excellent read and one of the rare books that I would pick up again to try and catch some of the nuances I may have missed. Do yourself a favor and pick this book up right away!

An enjoyable addition to the series that is full of intrigue, romance and danger. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know more about Rachel and Vaughn and of course re-visiting those we met in the previous book.
Rachel is trying her best to run the farming operation of the ranch while her sisters are focused on the guest aspect. She has been watching the land for trouble as there has been several incidences of vandalism. As she rides out toward the canyons she finds more than what she bargained for and is in fear for her life.
Vaughn is the local sheriff and is the first person Rachel calls when she runs into trouble, which some would question, however they have history and although it was more than a year ago, it did not end well, yet there is still something between them and it seems telling that she calls him first.
Vaughn is furious that Rachel has to defend herself and when he finds out who one of the assailants is, he is determined to end a rivalry that has gone on too long. Wallace is the chief of police of the nearby town and they have always been at odds. Vaughn has waited forever to show the true nature of Wallace and his son even if it cost him the re-election.
Vaughn and Rachel dance around their relationship as the investigation heats up. To make matters worse Wallace pulls out all the stops against Vaughn, embarrassing his family and making him look like a fool. The police chief tries to protect a son that seems to be a sociopath who is intent on terrorizing Rachel and her family. The more danger, the more Vaughn and Rachel are drawn toward each other but Vaughn is torn between his family, his job and Rachel and must make some hard decisions.
In the meantime, Rachel finds out some disturbing truths about her father, how he died and how he almost cost them the farm, she is devastated, but with her sisters by her side she gains strength.
This is such a good addition to the series, I like Rachel and Vaughn's story, try as they might for what they think is the greater good, their attraction is stronger and pulls them together. Rachel is a tough woman who seems to carry the weight of the ranch on her back. She has been working since she could remember side by side with her dad until he died, and you can feel the emotion when she has to come to terms with who her dad really was. I like Rachel and Vaughn together, they have this pull toward each other but so many things get in the way, I was cheering when things finally worked out, but what a struggle at times. The chemistry between them sizzles and love the scene in the barn while others were close by - wow.
I enjoy the relationship with her sisters and other secondary characters in the book, Vaughn's parents were fun and I enjoyed when he took her to dinner. I am definitely looking forward to reading about Jenna as the overall story continues, we will see the wedding between Amy and Kellen and find out more about this dynamic family. I am enjoying the series immensely and can't wait.

This is the second book of the Catcher Creek series. It could be read as a stand-alone book, but if you have the information from the first book it may make the read more “real”. More than that the series is just fabulous – you would not want to miss the first book!!
This is seriously one of the best books I have ever read – I could not put it down, but yet I tried to read it slower because I wanted it to last longer. This is definitely a book to sit back, enjoy and savor every word….yes, it is just that good. When you read the first paragraph you will be transported to Catcher Creek, and I can promise you will never want to leave. You will be reintroduced to characters from the first book in the series as well as the story between Vaughn and Rachel.
The main characters of Rachel and Vaughn are both written in a way that they are real, easy to relate to, and just simply people you would want to know and be friends with. Vaughn is a strong character who is tough, smart, funny but yet intensely vulnerable. He is a dimensional character whose vulnerability stretches far beyond just his love interest, Rachel. I enjoyed learning Vaughn’s personality and the way his snarky “Sheriff” persona was balanced by the helpless he felt regarding his family and most of all Rachel. One of the refreshing things about this story, in my opinion, is that Vaughn and Rachel are equals. Rachel is not weak, quirky, or timid – she does not need Vaughn or any man, for that matter, to rescue her from herself. Rachel has the same qualities as Vaughn she is strong, tough, smart, funny but yet also intensely vulnerable. The opening of the book will most definitely clue you into the type of character Rachel is – it will not take long for you to fall in love with her and the principals she tries so hard to up hold.
The relationship Vaughn and Rachel share is twisted, extreme and just plain complicated. The complications will definitely pull on your heart strings throughout the story, but certainly make the ending that much sweeter. A common theme between the two books in the series is the mutual attraction between the main characters. The attraction is intense, raw, and over-whelming. It is a very interesting story with lots of twist and turns. This book is also full of surprises, and they are like “wow, I didn’t see that coming” surprises. I’m telling you there is not one dull moment in this book – it is a definite no skipping or dozing off zone. If you are looking for a steaming hot romance with a hot dose of suspense, a heaping teaspoonful of surprises, and dash of “damn, that just ain’t fair” then this is definitely your read. I never reread books, but if I have the urge this one is 100% at the top of my reread list! It is hands down as close to perfect as they come – I CANNOT wait for book 3 of the Catcher Creek Series.

Cowboy Justice brings us back to Catcher Creek several months later and tells the story of Rachel and Vaughn, the local Sheriff. Previously the two had been involved in a clandestine affair that started after Rachel’s father was killed. The implications of Vaughn sleeping with the daughter of a victim forced the two of them to keep their relationship secret. When Rachel’s mother tries to kill herself one night while Rachel is with Vaughn, Rachel is overwhelmed with guilt and breaks things off. Neither are quite able to escape the hold they have on each other. At the same time, Rachel is trying to help her sisters revive the family ranch.
The Dude Ranch that the sisters established in their childhood home, as well as the oil wells along part of their land, are going strong. The sisters are beginning to find their footing after the deaths of both their parents. Not everyone is quite as happy with the sisters’ success. Local vandals have been painting threatening messages on the oil wells and other parts of the land. In the interest of protecting her sisters, Rachel opts to try to deal with the problem herself.
In a powerful opening scene, Rachel takes on one such group of vandals. A dangerous gun battle that leaves two of the vandals shot, Rachel wounded, and her horse killed. Devastated, Rachel calls Vaughn. When he arrives it is to find one of the wounded men is the son of the County Sherriff. From there things just get complicated.
Cutler lets her romantic suspense talents shine, as there is more to the story than some locals unhappy with the increased tourist traffic. She brings to light some real-world issues that impact many of the small towns throughout the West. Murder and drugs are not just issues for big cities.
Rachel and Vaughn have a tough road to ride. They are both constrained by their personal outlooks on life, as well as guilt over their perceived indiscretions. Just about the time one starts to let go and let the other in, something happens to force them back into protective mode. Rachel cannot let go of the guilt she harbors over her mom’s overdose. Vaughn feels as if he must protect everyone and take on all the injustices in the world. They are clearly better together, but both are too hard-headed to admit it. When they finally both let go and allow themselves to lean on each other it is wonderful.
This book is more serious than the first, but no less enjoyable. I am eagerly awaiting Jenna’s story next spring.

Vaughn is a definitely hero material. He is close to his family and his talks with his dad are some of the best scenes in the novel. Vaughn's protectiveness of his loved ones is both his best and worst quality. But his biggest fault is his blind spot where a nemesis is concerned. This clouds Vaughn's judgment and puts his investigation and his career in jeopardy.
The romance between Vaughn and Rachel is an emotional rollercoaster. Their relationship is volatile, wildly veering from explosive, irresistible passion to dramatic scenes where they agree to end their involvement. This back and forth of on again/off again is exhausting but an amazingly romantic and touching scene makes all the agonizing breakups worthwhile.
Cowboy Justice is a multi-layered novel that is jam packed with a puzzling mystery, scorching hot love scenes and a delightful romance. Melissa Cutler brilliantly brings the New Mexico countryside vibrantly to life and her depiction of small town living is quite accurate. Intriguing glimpses of sister Jenna and her possible love interest have me eagerly awaiting the next installment of the fabulous Catcher Creek series.

Cowboy Justice had me from the get go. This was one action packed story from right off the bat. Rachel Sorentino is a young woman who has worked her whole life to make her family unit not only stick together but thrive. You see her mother with bi-polar disorder, a father a farmer with a gambling problem who just didn’t know when to stop. She was so embarrassed by her mother when she would have an issue in public until one day she just shut down and ran off. Ending up at the feed store and the owner gave her a lucky horse shoe and took her back to the farm. Where she ran off to think. The one that found her was her father who told her that she would be fine and would grow up to be a great alfalfa farmer just all the other family farmers have been that worked that land before him. So, at a young age she went to work learning everything she could from her father who walked on water about how to be an alfalfa farmer. And overlooked all his downfalls.
Vaughn Cooper on the other hand was the town’s cowboy lawman, the Sheriff. He was straight laced when it came to the law. The reason being he was raised ten minutes away in a different town under the rule of another law enforcement agency. It was run by Wallace Meyer Sr. of the Tucumcari’s police of which he is chief. He is as bad ass as they come. Bending the law to suit him and his. At the young age of 16 years old Vaughn vowed to take him down.
One year ago while investigating the death of Rachel’s father’s death (after years of dealing with bringing one or both of her wild sister’s home from being out partying or whatever, etc…) Their attraction took hold and they both turned off all logic and allowed their needs to be with each other take hold. After that one night he said that they had to keep it a secret because he was on the job as well in the middle of her father’s case which was almost wrapped up but still. This was the start of the sexual roller coaster ride and hide and seek.
Besides the hot and I do mean hot, sizzling hot scenes, which is not at great amount like some but they are there. There is an under story going on with mystery, suspense, family, and love. What an amazingly fun roller coaster of emotions this writer was able to bring forth in me. Melissa Cutler has an extraordinary and yet simplistic way of writing that just engulfs you from the minute I started reading. I highly recommend to men and women. My Review:
This book starts off with action that never stops. Wow...I literally was crying within the first 20 pages....not good since I started it in the parents area of my daughters gymnastics gym...LOL. But the book is good with so many twists and turns that I just didn't see coming. I love how Melissa Cutler writes her suspense. I literally spend the time reading her books gasping out loud at what is happening.
In this book, we have Rachel and Vaughn. Vaughn is the county sheriff. At the top of that list is that a night of passion she spent with Vaughn...while she was out of the house, her bipolar mother lost it and subsequently died. Rachel has never been able to forgive herself or come clean with all the events of that night with her sisters. Unfortunately, she's learned over the years that the only person she can count on is herself and she's extremely independent. That hurts so much of the possibility between her and Vaughn.
They both want more, but have no way to move forward. There are so many obstacles in their way. It makes for a fabulous, romantic, suspenseful read. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this book.
There are a ton of layers to it...both the suspense story and the character's back-story including their families. You see lots of both sides families and the town of Catcher Creek, including Kellan and Amy from book #1 as they are preparing for their wedding. Overall, it was definitely an extremely satisfying read. Another great one from this series by Melissa Cutler.

This book starts off with action that never stops. Wow...I literally was crying within the first 20 pages....not good since I started it in the parents area of my daughters gymnastics gym...LOL. But the book is good with so many twists and turns that I just didn't see coming. I love how Melissa Cutler writes her suspense. I literally spend the time reading her books gasping out loud at what is happening.

No one is going to try to scare Rachel off her family’s land. She and her sisters have worked too hard to try to save the family farm to let some punks writing nasty graffiti to make her leave the land she loves. A warning shot should get them running for the hills. What happened was a gun fight and Rachel needing to call the one man she tried hard to stay away from; Vaughn.
Most of the time when you read an opening chapter of a book and there is a gunfight, it generally is between the big alpha male hero and the bad guys. Rachel does engage in a gunfight to defend herself and her property; and in the same chapter had a touching moment too. Rachel is a complicated woman; she has been taking care of her sisters long before her parent’s death, she shoulders much of the responsibility of the farm and a lot of guilt too. She and Vaughn had a secret affair that Rachel ended when her mother committed suicide. The affair and their remaining feelings are referred to often in the book. This is my first book in this series; and since I was not fully aware of Rachel and Vaughn’s history I found it took me a chapter or two to get vested in their romance. Vaughn is a hunky cowboy lawman. Much of the book he struggles with his feelings for Rachel and his desire for revenge. Vaughn has a great relationship with his parents; and his conversations with his Dad were some of my favorite scenes. Even though there is an investigation going on Rachel and Vaughn produce some steamy scenes. They also almost brought me to tears a few times too.
This is a very detailed book, so read it slow and enjoy. The details make scenes memorable. I found every character, no matter the length they were in a scene, a joy to read. Rachel has a love of photography (I do too) and has dreams close to home and far away. There was one small detail about Vaughn that is revealed early in the book that he uses to show Rachel the depth of his feelings and his willingness to try new things. That scene could have easily been done another way but I think the way Melissa Cutler wrote it was refreshing.
I am quiet open with my love of everything cowboy and Cowboy Justice did not disappoint. If you have time read The Trouble With Cowboys (Catcher Creek #1) before Rachel and Vaughn’s book, I plan on reading it before How To Rope A Real Man (Catcher Creek #3) releases in May.

This novel starts out with a heart racing gun fight, and some very bad moments for our heroine Rachel Appleton. This is the second in the Appleton Sisters series. We first met the family in The Trouble With Cowboys, and Amy and Kellan's journey to their HEA. To overcome hard knocks to there ranch and livelihood, the Appleton sisters decided to convert their working farm to a vacation attraction called Heritage Farm. The citizens of Catcher Creek, New Mexico are not happy with this decision, and graffiti and other annoying problems have been popping up. Nothing to the extent of gun toting vandals that Rachel is confronting today. She has her ever present camera, and is able to get photos of the men and their vehicle. She is armed and fires a warning shot to scare them away, and they turn on her in a volley of bullets, which severely injures her horse and herself. She is forced to do the one thing an animal lover never hopes to have to face, but is devastated by the pain in her much loved horse's eye. She manages a call to the one person she knows she shouldn't contact, but who always has her back.
Vaughn Cooper is the Sheriff of Catcher Creek, and he and Rachel have a difficult relationship. They met and were immediately attracted during the investigation of her father's death in a car crash. Rachel and Vaughn knew that anyone knowing of their meetings would damage his investigation and her reputation in this small town. Quiet out of the way meetings was all they could manage, until one devastating night, returning home after a night spent with Vaughn she finds her mother unconscious from a suicide attempt. Rachel's mother does not recover, and neither does Rachel. The guilt is breaking her heart.
This story has amazing twists and turns, and a number of shocking developments. Rachel is a strong determined woman, who believes in her responsibility to her sisters, and the duty of saving this land and their home. Vaughn is always in her head and heart, as much as she tries to deny it. Vaughn is an honest sheriff, who is faced with not being able to protect the woman he loves, and facing the prosecution of the son of one of his hated enemies, a fellow lawman.
I enjoyed this novel, and recommend it to readers who enjoy contemporary cowboy stories, with strong characters, and strong families.

5 Huge Stars !!!!!
This book was remarkable. Vaughn, Oh, Vaughn where have you been? I am adding him to my favorite boyfriend book list. Hot, sexy, sheriff and cowboy makes for a hot read. Vaughn and Rachel steam it up in this book.
This book grabbed me from the first page. We meet Vaughn in book one of this series and get a glimpse into how he feels about Rachel. Rachel and Vaughn a match made in angsty heaven. Oh my, this book was angsty, so much so that I had a knot in my stomach through half the book. I was ready to reach through my kindle and throttle someone. This is fantastic writing!
The thing I loved about this book the most was the mystery and intrigue. I was so caught up in the cops and robbers aspect I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen. It was very well written and flowed so smoothly.
I loved strong Rachel and the strength she had for her family. Vaughn had the same strength qualities as Rachel yet they were still so insecure towards each other. The emotions in this book take you for a ride. You experience love, heartbreak, joy and a huge sigh of relief. I was so happy to let my sigh out that I almost jumped up and down. I was so heartbroken for Vaughn at one point in the book I wanted to scream my sadness for him. Vaughn and Rachel have so much history it takes them years to trudge through it. Perseverance pays off for their HEA.
This is my third Melissa Cutler book in the last few days. That’s how good her writing is. I wanted to absorb the whole series in one setting. The story had an amazing flow you really did not know what was going to happen on the next page. I am hoping we will see more from the Catcher Creek Series.
Each story can be read as a stand alone book but to get the whole effect you should read them in order to understand the dynamics of the family. I would highly recommend this book, as well as, the entire series. If you love hot alpha cowboys, plenty of mystery and angst then this is the series for you.

That was seriously the best cake tasting party ever!!!!
In this installment, the Sorentino sisters are doing better than ever. The Bed and Breakfast they had started is doing well , and they are inching towards financial freedom. Thank God for that, because these sisters did not have it easy. Unfortunately, the town of Catcher Creek is not all that happy with their business. In fact, there have been several attempts to let the sisters know, and it has become quite deadly.
Rachel is the second sister of the series. She is the sister that held it together and the one that stayed home to take care of her parents. But honestly, after meeting her from The Trouble with Cowboys, you know there was more to her than what she shows. There are definitely secrets she keeps especially one that included Sheriff Vaughn Cooper.
I really enjoyed this novel as much as The Trouble with Cowboys. I loved Rachel and her responsible sibling role. I thought she was a strong woman in her world and protected what is hers. Though she had that persona, Ms. Cutler still gave her vulnerability making her character more believable. And who better to sweep her off her feet but the Sherriff of their town. I just adored Vaughn. He is an all-American Cowboy-Hero in every way; from his looks, manners, confidence, protectiveness, and to his sexual appeal. Wait until you read about his sexy and sweet sides. And I have to tell you the strength of this book is the sweet and romantic side of Vaughn. It’s what I loved most anyway.
Ms. Cutler did a fabulous job with this installment. She never fails to bring a good Western romance with a hint of mystery. As I mentioned in my review of The Trouble with Cowboys, Ms. Cutler can deliver sexy cowboys. This book just proved my point because Vaughn is sexy as hell. I can’t wait until the next book, “How to Rope a Real Man” which will be Jenna, the youngest Sorentino’s story. I’m pretty sure her story will be a tear jerker.

Since Melissa Cutler’s first book for Kensington was published last year, I have been eagerly awaiting the second installment of the Sorentino sisters’ journey to restore the family farm back to its former glory after their father ran it into the ground.
Cowboy Justice focuses on Rachel, the oldest daughter, who always “did her duty” to the detriment of her own happiness. She is in love with Sheriff Vaughn Cooper and he with her, but both of them let their sense of duty prevent their developing a meaningful lasting relationship.
For me, this was a multiple hankie read, starting from the very first chapter. Ms. Cutler made very clear how much Rachel cared for her sisters and her farm, and how torn she was that she couldn’t see a way to be with Vaughn and be the matriarch that her family needed her to be.
Vaughn is the hunky cowboy that romance novels are famous for. He has as fierce a sense of responsibility as Rachel does, and he is determined to see that Wallace Meyer, Jr., who is the police chief’s son and Vaughn’s nemesis, is brought to justice for his crimes against Rachel and her family.
I hate to give away too much of the plot in my reviews, but suffice it to say that my heart ached for both Rachel and Vaughn that they couldn’t see a way to live up to their responsibilities and make their relationship work. Ms. Cutler got the bad guys perfect. Meyer Sr., and Jr., were easy villains to hate!!
After a very unexpected revelation about Rachel’s father’s past wakes her up as to what she is doing to herself, and a turn of events in Vaughn’s life that makes him take a second look at what he is doing to himself and Rachel, these two lovers finally have an epiphany as to what is really important in life.
Cowboy Justice was an emotional roller coaster of a read, and one of those books that I hated to see end. Even though it is part of a trilogy, it can be read as a stand alone book.

Cowboy Justice by Melissa Cutler, is the second book about the Sorentino sisters, who are doing much better with their B&B and making their way to the success and financial freedom they have been aiming for. Only there are people in the town of Catcher Creek who are not happy with their business, to the point that there have been several (quite deadly) attempts to make them aware of the fact.
Cowboy Justice is about Rachel, she stayed home to look after her parents and the ones that has been holding everything together. She is responsible and strong, and makes sure to take care and protect what is hers.
Vaughn Cooper is the town’s Sheriff, and he is very straight laced when it comes to the law. After being raised in a town where the law was bend to benefit those that were supposed to uphold it, it can only be understood why he is the way he is. Which is why when a year before when he was investigating the death of Rachel’s father, no matter how much he and Rachel wanted to be together, after one night he said that they had to keep it a secret since he was still in the working on the case.
Now Rachel wants to keep her distance from Vaughn, for he is the only one that can see the vulnerability that no one else does and cut right to it. Also she has not been able to forgive or stop blaming herself for what happened on the one night that she was with him and not home with her mother. But when she needs help he if the first person she calls, even if their attraction is an inconvenience to his career.
Things are not going to be easy for Rachel and Vaughn, for it seems they have many things against them, including her extreme independence and his career. But what the heart truly wants and what feels right is not easily denied, especially when danger comes knocking to her door.
There is a great suspense and back-story about Rachel and Vaughn that will keep you hooked and wondering what comes next. But he romance will not be lacking, for the HOT scenes may not be many but they are sizzling. The chemistry is great, and the adventure and suspense will definitely keep you hooked.
If you like a good intriguing, suspenseful romance filled with danger and passion that will keep you hooked, don’t miss Cowboy Justice by Melissa Cutler.

I was So happy to get to read Rachel & Vaughn's story, I've been waiting to see how it would play out since The Trouble with Cowboys. I was NOT disappointed.
Rachel and Vaughn have a secret past, and both feel guilt and regrets over that brief relationship. Things are stirred up again, when an incident occurs on Rachel's property and Vaughn, as sheriff, must investigate. In the course of the investigation, Rachel and Vaughn are thrown together often, forcing them to recognize their remaining feelings for each other.
Rachel is the oldest Sorentino sister. She's taken a lot on her shoulders growing up, and she's also put her own wants/needs/dreams last so as not to do anything that would risk her sisters or their happiness. I really liked that both her sisters, and Vaughn figured out just how much she shouldered and tried to alleviate her of some of her burdens. I found myself more attached to Rachel than her sisters, because of her "Mothering", I recognized the way she took care of those around her to the extent of hurting herself, both physically and emotionally. This made me even happier to see her finally recognizing that she deserved to Live for herself and find her own happiness.
Vaughn is a great guy, even when he believes he isn't. I had fun watching as he worked through their history and worked towards a future together. I loved his interactions with his family, most especially his father. Vaughn held his feelings close to himself which of course spurned misunderstandings and a delay in his own happy ending, I was glad to see him realize this and push himself to set things right for himself and Rachel.
The element of suspense the police investigation brought was a wonderful addition to the story. It set it apart from being just another quick, easy love story. Nothing about Rachel and Vaughn was easy, and their story wouldn't have been as fitting without their added issues to work through.
It's going to be a long wait for Jenna's story.

I really liked that both her sisters, and Vaughn figured out just how much she shouldered and tried to alleviate her of some of her burdens. I found myself more attached to Rachel than her sisters, because of her "Mothering", I recognized the way she took care of those around her to the extent of hurting herself, both physically and emotionally. This made me even happier to see her finally recognizing that she deserved to Live for herself and find her own happiness.
Vaughn is a great guy, even when he believes he isn't. I had fun watching as he worked through their history and worked towards a future together. I loved his interactions with his family, most especially his father. Vaughn held his feelings close to himself which of course spurned misunderstandings and a delay in his own happy ending, I was glad to see him realize this and push himself to set things right for himself and Rachel.
The element of suspense the police investigation brought was a wonderful addition to the story. It set it apart from being just another quick, easy love story. Nothing about Rachel and Vaughn was easy, and their story wouldn't have been as fitting without their added issues to work through.
It's going to be a long wait for Jenna's story.

Rachel has been taking care of her family first and herself last since she was a little girl. She played both father and mother to her two younger sisters while her parents played an unstable and unreliable role in their lives. The one night she puts herself and her desires first, her world crumbles. Since that time she has walked around with guilt and longing for the one thing she can’t and won’t have – Vaughn.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, The Trouble with Cowboys, so I was hopeful that I was going to like this one as well. Turns out I liked this one even better than the first. There was so much emotion and feeling in this book it added a depth I wasn’t expecting, but fully appreciated.
There is one scene in particular where Rachel goes over to Vaughn’s house and completely lays herself bare before him. There is so much going on, unspoken and emotionally, between the two of them in that scene that it almost felt invasive reading it. Like I was witnessing something so utterly private… and I shouldn’t have been. It was beautiful and a little tragic and quite possibly one of my favorite scenes I have read in a long time.
We get to know the Sorentino sisters better and understand what shaped them into who they are today. There is a lot of mystery and action wrapped up into this book and all the elements created a hard to set down book. It seems like an impossibly long wait until I get the next book in this series in my hand. I may go mad in my waiting and wanting to know more about Jenna and Matt. This is a fantastic series so far – have high expectations for the next book, too.

Cowboy Justice is the second book in Melissa Cutler's Catcher Creek series about the Sorentino sisters. I hadn't read the first book when I started with this one. While Cowboy Justice stood really well on its own, it would probably still be best to read The Trouble with Cowboys first, because there are things that will probably make more sense if you do.
I've been wracking my brain trying to think of a word to describe the relationship and connection between Rachel and Vaughn, and there were two terms that just kept popping up: explosive and incendiary. Despite their reservations and fears, they positively seethe with thinly-concealed desire. While there is a fair amount of to-ing and fro-ing between them, Melissa Cutler has constructed this in such a way so that the tension remains real and never becomes tiresome.
Another aspect of Cowboy Justice that was really well done, I thought, was the suspense and the mystery that surrounded the vandalism of the Sorentino farm and the increasing threats that are plaguing them. I found myself genuinely intrigued and anticipating every new twist and turn.
I really enjoyed the relationships and interactions between the characters in Cowboy Justice. The relationship between Vaughn and his dad was lovely, and Rachel's interactions with her sisters will definitely ring true to those of you who have sisters.
If you are looking for a suspenseful, emotional romance with a sexy lawman hero, Cowboy Justice will definitely fit the bill.

"Cowboy Justice" is the second book by Melissa Cutler in her Catcher Creek series. She started the book off with a gun battle between Rachel Sorentino and four vandals that were high on drugs. By the end of Chapter #3 my thought was "how is Melissa going to get Rachel and Vaughn out of this mess?".
Rachel is a strong and independent woman who always handles everything that life throws at her. She has been taking care of the family ranch and her two younger sisters since she was a little girl because of her parents' instability.
Vaughn is the local sheriff who is honest, trustworthy and ethical. Vaughn is close to his family and when he is troubled he talks to his dad. Those were some great scenes in the book that really let you see inside of Vaughn. However, his job was always his first priority and that blinded him many times to being there for Rachel.
The romance between Rachel and Vaughn was emotional, often volatile and downright HOT! Melissa developed Rachel and Vaughn into solid, well-drawn characters that I really rooted for during this book.
Melissa did a great job of describing the New Mexico settings. When Rachel and Vaughn were out horseback riding together, I could actually see the land as they rode because of her vivid descriptions.
Melissa has written a plot that is solid. The twist and turns of the mystery that starts out as being vandalism, then turns into so much more as you continue reading, kept me glued to the pages. This is a great story and I look forward to Jenna's story in the next book.

I’ve been waiting for this book. I really liked Vaughn and Rachel when we met them in The Trouble with Cowboys and I wanted them to be able to have their story told and get their HEA. While this is a series and follows the story started in the previous book this book stands alone just fine (but I recommend that you read The Trouble with Cowboys because it was really good too).
This is a story about many things: families, guilt, revenge, forgiveness, love; it was all there with a fair bit of suspense and a heaping scoop of lust (the scene in the barn…keep some ice water nearby). Rachel and Vaughn have been having an on again off again secret affair since her father’s death over a year before. When she is injured during a shoot out on her property Vaughn begins to see that he may have made a terrible mistake turning their relationship into a dirty secret. These two have explosive chemistry that leaps off the page. They are irresistibly drawn to each other but bad timing, secrets and other loyalties try to pull them apart. This book is an emotional roller coaster with, I have to say, some pretty crushing lows (I found myself rubbing my chest to try to relieve the physical ache I got for what these characters were going through, there are very few authors who can get that response from me.) but when everything comes together it is so good. I don’t want to give the plot away so I’ll stop there.
I loved this book and I’m really looking forward to reading Jenna’s book How to Rope a Real Man when it comes out! I received a copy of this book through the Goodreads First Reads program and this is my honest review.

This is the second book in a series. You can read them as stand alones but it is so much better to read them in order to learn all the little nuances and the history of the Sorentino women and the land they love.

Dealing with beer drinking, trespassing vandals. Dealing with beer drinking, trespassing vandals spraying hate laden graffiti on the boulders on your land. Having a shootout between one .38 revolver and 4 rifles – not very good odds. Getting shot while having a shootout with beer drinking, trespassing, graffiti spraying vandals. Having to put down your best friend (your favorite horse) because they shoot him while gleefully trying to kill you. Having to break down and call to warn the local sheriff you are about to kill some men. Rachel Sorentino is not having a good morning!
From the first page, this book held my attention and the excitement increased with every page turned! Reading this was like having a western soap opera unfold. With so many different people (and there were a lot) and so much going on throughout the book, you would assume that either the storyline would get messed up or the writer would lose characters and not keep up with the plot. But Melissa Cutler proves (again) that she is golden. She weaves a tight storyline with an incredible plot, with fantastic people that you will, by the end of this, grow to love even more then before (from the first book in the series) or so very much loathe because there just is no redeeming value for that character.
Keep it up Ms. Cutler!!! I am anxiously and happily anticipating next one….

This is book 2 in The Catcher Creek series and it blew me away! This book was more intense and edgier than Book 1, but it was needed for the storyline. Melissa Cutler has a way of transporting me into her characters lives and making me feel everything they are feeling right along with them. Even though I knew this was a Romance book, I wasn't sure that there was going to be a Happy Ever After. I could not put this book down, I had to know that Rachel and Vaughn were going to be ok! I loved that both the characters were so strong from page one with Rachel fighting off vandals on her family property and Vaughn being the town sheriff. The two had a very long secretive history and it was interesting to see how Cutler developed their relationship throughout the book. I think Cutler does an excellent job of showing how protective people can be of their families and the lengths that they will go to protect them. The secondary characters added to the story but didn't detract. Cutler did a great job of showing how small town law enforcement works and how some sheriffs don't always play by the rules. I really wanted more justice to be done to the other sheriff and perhaps he will get his in a future book. If you love cowboys, small town Romance, Romantic Suspense, this book is for you. I was given an ARC for a fair review.
