I have desired to learn Linux for yeears, but just never had enough discipline to do it. This book teaches the same material as the others I bought in the past, but the structure and style are in a fresh approach, just different enough to hold my interest while I experimented with each command on my Raspberry Pi computer. I am clearly not an expert, but I am a lot more comfortable with the command line. I gave 5 stars and recommend it highly.
This book was so easy to use and his explanations were very clear. Right from the start I was able to follow along and actually use the information with the examples given, so that gave me hands-on experience, as I went along learning the basics. Even though I had been using Linux before I bought this book, it can be very complicated, especially since I was used to Windows. Thankfully it didn't take long to get through the basics on this one and the application of the material would fit any distribution of Linux, as far as I can tell. Saved a lot of headaches with this one. Highly recommended!
I docked one star for a few needed proofread areas but other than that this is golden. Do not skip this piece of gold. I am no longer considered a Linux beginner but a coworker asked me for a suggestion and I had to lead him to this piece of treasure.
Pro tip: Open open OneNote or a notebook and jot down the commands and what they do for your future knowledge base. Refer to them or use anki for flash card space repition, you can thank me later when you are a Linux admin :)
Very fast read to get someone started on Linux. The best part is the ending, which directs you to the Man Pages for command descriptions. Something everyone should know in this day and age.
Provides a great intro chapter for each section followed by detailed syntax and practical usage of each command and its options. Great history of Linux as well!
Definitely a good beginner’s guide to those who are new to linux
Thanks to the author who did a good job explaining well on CLI basics with the most used commands. Those who are in a need of a Linux basics start, definitely I would recommend this book.
This is when you wish this authorized written other books you read and had a hard time understanding. I am glad I bought it and it sure will remain a reference tool for days to come.
I thought this was a terrific overview for beginners (me) learning the Linux command line. I haven't found it easy to learn all of this at my age but I keep picking away at it.
Does what it says on the tin. It's a beginner's guide for Linux. All command line stuff. Nothing that you couldn't get from the internet but if you like having a guide next to you. This one is well written.
This book is an excellent start for someone who knows nothing about Linux. I thought the level of technology in the book was great for a beginner. I also liked the pace at which the book progressed from beginning to end.
I gave 4 stars, nothing change in the linux. But the other parts, I don't see this as a book for expert in Linux. But for the beginner it's a 5 stars with many examples, perfect for a beginner
