Petition for the retitling of this book to: A Baby Between Lukewarm Work Acquaintances

You can tell me these two were best friends all you like, but he didn’t know that she didn’t have a home and lived in hotel rooms, and she didn’t know why he was a bull fighter or literally anything about him. They were work acquaintances at best. Their conversations revealed such basic personal information that it felt like they had just met.

Also his reasons for wanting to conceive a baby the natural way -despite her extreme misgivings- were weak at best: he wanted to be able to tell their baby when it was older that it’s parents wanted it? Ok sir, no kid has ever wanted to hear their conception story ever, in the history of procreation. They will gladly go through their life, existing and being loved without knowing that daddy banged mommy to bring them there. It seemed like he just really wanted to raw dog her.

Also, he doesn’t think her reasons for having a baby are sound and disagrees with them, but when she agrees to his terms for natural conception he is suddenly on board with no more hang ups? What a prince.
And the third act break-up was ridiculously abrupt and completely out of character, so it just seemed like the author was following a formula. It was forced and with the length of the book, unnecessary.

Lastly, please for the love of all that is prosey, come up with another way of saying they banged: making love was used 17 times in this 178 page book, make love was used 25 times, lovemaking used 5 times and made love was used 4 times. Guys, this book was less than 100,000 words and there was no other way that bumping uglies was referred to. I get not using curse words but have some creatively. Making love is the most off-putting and old fashioned gramma way of saying they joined in connubial bliss. 🤮 🤮 🤮
I consider this a personal attack against my digestion.

Ugh this book was mediocre and cringe. TWs should be, but were not, noted: sexual assault/rape, domestic abuse, murder, use of the term ‘making love’ (as noted above).

Ryder and Summer have been friends for years, best friends. Everything is going smoothly until Summer drops a bombshell on Ryder. She wants a baby and she wants him to be the father. She has it all figured out, until she realises that she doesn't get to call all the shots in this situation.
When Ryder takes things into his own hands, startling truths about Summer come to light and he finds he wants to help her now more than ever, but just as friends. Or is it maybe more?

A Baby Between Friends had such promise. I really wanted to love it because I love this sort of story. Unfortunately several parts of this book dragged, with lots of internal monologues and then the end just sort of happened. All of a sudden a solid character acted completely out of character and I was like .."what?". I could see what was supposed to happen but it still kind of caught me off guard and not in a good way. The reconciliation between characters happened fast as well.
So even though the first three quarters or more of the book went super slow, the last quarter left me dizzy. I think better pacing was necessary to make it more believable. I liked the characters Ryder and Summer and I did like the idea of their love story. It just didn't quite flow the way I would have liked.

I really wanted to like this book since I' love stories about friends falling in love, but this story didn't execute it very well. I felt it was really rushed, they went from friends to instantly in love, didn't allow for the characters to develop chemistry. I also agree with previous reviews that question their relationship as "bestfriends" it seemed as though they didn't really know one another well enough for it to be believable.

I read A Baby Between Friends in a heartbeat, a few days ago.

Summer and Ryder have been friends for a few years. Summer had lost her family a few years before meeting him, and after thinking a lot about it she decided she wanted to start a family of her own, only she needs Ryder’s help to do so.

Summer wants a baby, and she’s willing to let Ryder of the hook of the responsibilities that come with being a father just as long as he helps her have her baby. What she didn’t expect was for Ryder to want those responsibilities, nor did she expect that he would only help her on the condition the child was conceived naturally.

Ryder was looking out his best friend, and he saw his added condition as a way to deter her from her decision, he just wasn’t counting on Summer doing anything to have her baby.

A Baby Between Friends was a nice book. Summer is strong despite what happened to her in the past, she’s a sweet and caring woman, but she needs to overcome her fears. Ryder is a tough man, he protects those he loves with everything he has, even his own life.

I think A Baby Between Friends had pretty much all the qualities to make an awesome story if it weren’t for the pace. The books goes just fine until we get to the end. The whole conclusion of the book and how we come to it was extremely rushed. I wished the author had taken as much time with it as she had developing Ryder and Summer’s relationship, I felt like everything fell apart and then it was all glued together in the blink of an eye, the end.

I don’t say A Baby Between Friends was bad book because of it, however. I just wished it was developed more carefully. It still was a lovely story, sweet, steamy at times and heartbreaking at others. It was worth the read.

No sure. I only finished it because Kathie DeNosky wrote it and if this was a non-romance book I'd give it 4.5-5 stars but as romance I wasn't sure.

At times it was slightly cringy and clinical especially when they had 'failed' sex...banging...or whatever....love making. It did have an embarrassing element to it and I like my romance to be like modern fairytales. Maybe Ryder should have just done it in a cup.

Also I thought maybe Ryder needed anger management classes or at least take at seat on Lane's couch, the fact he ended up killing his foster father in a frenzy so was charged with man slaughter then nearly does the same to another creep. They deserved it but Ryder could be sent down for displaying his uncontrollable temper via gallantry.

Also after a few books the old Mariah vs Jacon childbirth bet got a bit boring. Also the brothers betting on the next marriage.

Still looking forward to reading the one more, which is TJ seemingly the quietest of the foster brothers. I can't stand Mariah or Jacon so may give it a miss.

Not very good. Pretty slow and really uncomplicated. I didn't really like it but gave it two stars anyways.

I usually love a book with friends falling in love and this one even had babies, but I just didn’t liked this couple, maybe is because Ryder is acting all fine and suddenly he changes. Anyway, not my favorite book by far.

Summer is actually a nice girl and I understand her fears and her reasons for wanting a family, but Ryder was not the best person for her. The couple didn’t showed a lot of sparks and he helped her, but the relationship felt a little bleak for me.

The know each other for years and there way too many secrets between these two. He never even knew she didn’t had a house for Pete sake. Doesn’t sound like best friends to me at all.

I always enjoy a friends-to-lovers story and this was a nice and quick distraction. Ryder and Summer's friendship turned relationship that went fast, but of course, it's an old category so I wasn't surprised. After a few stressful days this was a nice audiobook to listen to during the workday.

What would happen if a single day can change how you look at your best friend/work colleague.

It was very interesting getting introduced to the rodeo circuit. Summer Patterson , who handles PR decides that it is time to become a mother and Ryder McClain has the seeds needed to help create the family she wants.

An interesting narrative in which both the lead characters have enough money to not work but choose to do so. There is a also a dark secret in Summer's past that Ryder needs to inch slowly over.

A light read and a fun experience.

Me gusto.

A story about a young woman who is best friends with a handsome cowboy--and work colleagues; they both work for the traveling rodeo--who decides that the one thing she wants most in her life... is the one thing only he can give her. Summer and Ryder have been best friends for a couple of years now, and Summer's been thinking about having a baby for the last couple of months and she's decided who she wants to be the baby's daddy. Yep, her BFF. She's got a few conditions, if he agrees to go through with it, and that would be that they conceive the baby the clinical way and not the with the coming together of the two of them physically, and that she doesn't want his status in their relationship to change in any capacity. She doesn't want a boyfriend or least of all a husband.

But Ryder's got some issues with those terms. See, as a kid he'd been passed around from one foster home to another for as long as he can remember-plus he has this big secret that he can never reveal to Summer-and he doesn't want any kid of his to grow up without a father. He wants to be as active as possible in the child's life.

Summer just wants to fill the emptiness in her life. Ever since her parents died 3 years ago, she's been lonely. Being an only child to an older couple who didn't have any siblings or family themselves meant that she was alone in the world from the time she was a senior in college. She's decided that having a baby will give her someone to love and someone who will love her back. Sad, I know.

But as per usual, things don't go according to plan. After some teasing from his adoptive brothers, Ryder began to see Summer in a whole new light. Her every touch is electric and her presence does something to him that it's never done before. Same can be said for Summer, she has started to realize that trying to keep Ryder as "just a friend" isn't as easy as she thought it would have been. But alas, Summer has a secret as well. A secret that she needs to reveal to Ryder, somehow, because she doesn't know if she'll be able to move on from it.

Overall, not a bad story. I just wished it were a little better detailed and maybe slightly longer. Everything just kind of came together a little too nicely in a slightly cheesy way, but it wasn't ridiculous so I could deal with that. The writing was good, the story flowed well, a very likable-if not rather young to be thinking about motherhood, but to each his own-and a very sweet hero who didn't have it easy as a kid but was able to redeem himself as an adult.

Very good book. I like friends to lovers stories and this one was pretty sweet. Summer and Ryder have been friends for several years and she is very comfortable with him. She doesn't think she will ever marry but she wants a child of her own, so she asks Ryder to help her out. Ryder is surprised but ends up willing to do it. Neither one expects their friendship to heat up to something more.

I liked both Summer and Ryder. Summer had been alone for several years after the deaths of her parents. She wants a family of her own but because of an incident in her past feels that she will never be able to marry. She has given it a great deal of thought and asks Ryder to be the donor for her to have that baby. She is surprised by his conditions but is willing to try it his way. She is nervous about the physical intimacy but discovers that she welcomes it from Ryder. Her feelings for Ryder start to change from friendship to love but she's afraid that he will never feel anything but friendship for her. I really enjoyed seeing the way that Summer was able to overcome her past with Ryder's help. I also liked the way that she had the courage to go to Ryder at the end and show him that he was always the man she thought he was in spite of his own past.

Ryder had been friends with Summer for several years. Suddenly he started seeing her as more than just a friend, and it was freaking him out a bit. When she came to him with her plan, his first reaction was to turn her down flat, but he didn't want to hurt her feelings either. So he came up with the idea to require that it be done naturally. He was stunned when she agreed and wasn't quite sure how to deal with it. When he found out about what had happened to her I loved his reaction. I especially loved the way that he was so determined to help her overcome her fears. His total control over himself and his willingness to let her set the pace were just what she needed. His feelings for her were growing stronger but he felt he didn't deserve the high regard she had for him. When his past rises up to haunt him he breaks things off with her and tries to hide from his feelings. I loved the intervention by his brothers and how they tried to make him see sense. But the best part was when Summer came to confront him and showed him that he had nothing to fear.

I was really surprised how much I liked this book.
I loved Summer and Ryder and how the strength of their friendship, came from a place or love and respect.

Ryder is almost stoic in his relationship with Summer, hes protective and almost unaware of her as anything but a friend, instead of a woman who could change his life forever.

Summer has a dream, she wants to be a mother. She wants her child to inherit the strength, character and compassion she shes in her best friend Ryder.

The relationship between Ryder and Summer draws you in, with its sense of understanding in love. Highly recommended.

My view

This book presents a sweet story between two friends and how their love developed with their interactions. The characters passed most of their time during the story together with minimal interactions from others.

Both characters were attached to their pasts and that caused their relationship to flourish, but at the same time set them back. In a way, they complemented each other and at the same time, Ryder protected them both.

More a moment I thought the Last Chance Ranch mentioned in this book was the same one on Vicki Lewis Thompson books, but it was just the same name and similar programs for foster kids. Both characters love family and became one.

This is a stand alone book, but the second on a series.

What I liked the most

I love the way Ryder took care of Summer and his relationship with his brothers.

I wanted more of

I wanted the story to slow down. The time between the rodeos moved pretty fast and the characters felt rushed into their relationship.

Who should read it

Anyone looking for a sweet romance with a little bit more intimacy.

This book tell the story of Summer, who want to have a baby, but she doesn’t want anyone’s baby. She wanted her best friend’s Ryder baby. She asked Ryder to be her sperm donor. Summer is alone in the world when she lost her parent. She has been living like a nomad while travelling from one rodeo to another. She wanted to have a child that she can call her own but she doesn’t want to get married after a bad incident during her younger days. Ryder was surprised with her request but after a deep contemplation, he agreed with her request but not by being a donor. He wanted her to conceive naturally. Summer in turn was shock with his ultimatum; and she agreed with him in the end. From there on, Summer’s past begun to unravel itself and Ryder find himself wanting to protect her instead.

I like the story and the characters in this book especially Ryder. He is a responsible person and the fact that he want to help and protect Summer shows his caring part. There are issues which Summer have that lead to her decision to ask Ryder for help but it have been revealed slowly throughout the book. This is a sweet read with good love story to tell for me.
