As with any learn-it-yourself language book, this book focuses on getting you a working vocabulary of simply words and phrases right from the beginning. Fortunately, it has a good habit of introducing cognates with English to build up the vocabulary. One thing that might also interest those grammar-haters out there, is that it does not lay heavy on the grammar until the last third of the book. Unfortunately, when it does dwell in the grammar if fails miserably to explain the difference of tense usage, especially when it comes to the use of the subjunctive and its different types. However, it is not a bad introduction to the language.
