When Scott Evans sends an anonymous invitation to the dominant he’s fantasised about for months, he just hopes that Joe Stuart will be curious enough to turn up at the specified address and do a scene with him. It never occurs to Scott that Joe will send a note back to him, or that something as simple as writing a letter could evolve into a kinky game that will test both men to the limit. Orders, pleas, kinks and even love—there’s nothing a letter can’t contain once two hot and passionate guys start Pushing The Envelope.
Previously available only in electronic format, these fourteen installments of the best-selling Pushing The Envelope series have now been combined for a paperback edition!
Kim is a thirty-three year old bisexual submissive from Wales (UK). First published in 2008, she has since released almost 100 BDSM erotic romance titles ranging from short stories to full length novels. Having worked with a host of fantastic e-publishers, she has just moved into self publishing.
While she has occasionally ventured towards other pairings, Kim's first love is still, and probably always will be, Male/Male stories. But, no matter what the pairing, from paranormal to contemporary, and from the sweet to the intense, everything she writes will always feature three things - Kink, Love and a Happy Ending.
I've read this book 6 times now within 6 months...I jut have to read it....I love Joe and Scott....Scott so innocent and scared of his feelings for Joe....And Joe not your big tough dominant but just what Scott needs x
I liked this a lot for a good BDSM erotic romance, although it slowed down a bit in the middle few chapters. If it had been written all together as a novella, we would have had more relationship talk midway. The guys may have been able to interact a little more into each other's outside lives. And I would have liked that. But given that this was released in chapters, Ms. Dare did a good job of each one feeling like an individual and complete scene.
You always knew there was another letter coming, and were therefore anticipating the next installment/chapter, but there aren't little cliffhangers at the end of each chapter. For that reason, it makes it easy to take your time with this. I'd read one to three per day, maybe taking a day off here and there. No huge tension or need to stay up late reading. That's just the nature of the format, and a positive thing since I'm assuming they were released in pieces.
But given that they're all out now, you obviously would want to get this compilation instead of the individuals if your interesting in reading this. It is absolutely all one piece and you really need to read all 14 to get the whole story.
The sex was hawt. And chapters 1-10 or so all had unique and interesting scenarios. By the last few chapters it was a lot more focused on the relationship, and I think this was harder to accomplish in this format. Ms. Dare still needed a sex scene per chapter/episode and she didn't want to leave us any cliffhangers. So really it's not until the last chapter that it all gets worked out. I was starting to get a bit antsy by chapter 12, but I did still enjoy it.
If you like a tad bit of romance with your kink then I think you'll like this. Be prepared for a strong and confidant Dom, and an uber insecure and stuttering sub. (That reminds me of one other comment. Scott said he only stutters when he's nervous but he ALWAYS stuttered. I got that for most of the chapters, but near the end that would have been a nice tool to use to show us that he was getting more comfortable and confident with Joe.)
Received from the publisher in exchange for an honest review, reviewed for Hearts On Fire
P.S. The labeling of this anthology as chapters 1-14 confused me since there were 16 chapters, and it was throwing me off when I tried to line it up with the individual stories. But then I realized that the existing parts of the story have been tweaked and re-edited, and two entirely new installments have been added. The edition I read is the first time all the installments have been brought together in e-book form and I would definitely recommend reading that.
A story of two men exchanging letters to develop a relationship. A guy who wants to be a submissive sends an invitation to the dominant bartender he has been lusting after. Their relationship progresses.
Lots of hot kinkiness. Lots of verbal bondage. Lots of sex. Lots of point-of-view switching.
Since all the parts of this story really make up one entire book, I read them all together and there’s really no point in attempting to discuss each on its own.
Incidentally (or not) the very length of the resulting tale is what makes it so lovable to me. We (and the guys) get to explore the evolution of their relationship and love in more detail and perhaps greater finality than in most of the shorter stories by this author. And it still builds up momentum and drama. So while maintaining the structure of each of the fourteen parts, I don’t think those bits would really stand remotely as well on their own.
This is Joe’s evolution, too. Maybe even more so than Scott’s struggles with self-esteem, for all that it happens with a little less spotlight (until later on, anyway). Joe starts out as a rough guy who takes what he wants and doesn’t much care for the people he has sex with beyond making sure to uphold his part of the bargain. Scott opens him up to taking care of his sub’s emotional needs as well, to wanting to take care of them. Joe calls it being “a good guy” for once and marvels at how fun it can be to keep screwing the same guy. I think for me that was the moment Joe really clicked with me, and it got better and better from there.
As for Scott, I can imagine that some readers might feel he is portrayed as too improbably insecure to be taken seriously, but although for a moment or two I almost felt that way about him myself, the fact is that I’m the poster child for insecurity and as such I can only say I recognize a lot of myself in him in that regard. It doesn’t really make him weak, I think… Especially since he does have flashes of assertiveness, not to mention that the fact that a lot of things scare him half to death yet he does them anyway suggests a lot more inner strength than if this came easily to him. So he has that fascinating duality, wherein submission is as natural to him as breathing, but that does not mean following up on it in reality takes any less determination.
Blah, I am just talking in circles with this.
Anyway, one of the wonderful aspects of this book is the lack of formality as part of Joe’s straightforward and uncomplicated kind of dominance. There are no demands of shows of respect or formalized dances to go through. It’s all instinct and nature and as such keeps the guys real, living and breathing. Believable even within this comparatively extreme depth of D/s.
My apologies I’m overly tired right now and my thoughts are a mess. That’s a pity because this story deserves better than abrupt, near-delirious ramblings. Just keep in mind to tackle it all in one go and not to give up too soon, because, as I said, it gathers steam and impact. Although why would you give up? It’s not as though it’s ever boring or repetitive to begin with.
Yeah, I better get some rest. Not making any sense at all.
