Review of An Eternity of Roses
The Valthreans #1
Natalie G. Owens
5 stars

Reading this book was truly a delight-and I use that word intentionally. A fast-paced, loving, lovable, romp through time and character and romance and horror, with characters who are so fully fleshed that I felt they were standing beside me, “An Eternity of Roses” is only the beginning-this is the first entry in a new series called “The Valthreans,” about a race of immortals who commenced almost before recorded time.

Lady Emmaline and Viscount Adrian are so very deeply in love, and are soon to marry. It’s 1807, a time when Society is all, and marriages are almost always arranged for convenience, politics, or matters of wealth. But these fortunate two are in love; until the villainess interferes. Madeleine put me in mind of the infamous Countess Elisabeth Bathory (yes, one of my favourite historical characters) in her depths of evil, the ambition of her evil, and her arcane murderous practices. She rules by fear, and she desires Adrian: nothing will stop her, or can she be stopped?

Natalie G. Owens writes prose as if she is writing poetry, truly. The imagery is superb, and almost every sentence contains a wonderful description that makes the reader want to pause to savour it. I can’t wait to read the next in the series; in the meantime, “An Eternity of Roses” is a definite re-read.

The author provided me with an e-book copy in return for my provision of a fair and impartial review.

In 1807, two young members of the nobility overcome the rivalry between their families to fall in love. Lord Adrian Segrave, the Viscount of Bournemouth, and Lady Emmaline Deramore are three days from their wedding and eager to build a new life together, but a series of supernatural events will viciously tear them apart. Emmaline’s search for Adrian takes her on grueling journey through wars, changes, and time to find a man without the memory of the love they shared and causing her to question when it’s time to let go.

The premise of this story seems very promising. The original use of ancient Hindu deities set up a different breed of immortals in this sub-genre. It’s a shame Ms. Owens didn’t expand upon her immortal world.

This was my first book from her and now I don't think that I could mention an author who writes more beautifully, than Natalie G. Owens. Detailed descriptions, beautiful phrasing, metaphors, similes, sensual love scenes and else are what Natalie puts in front of us, wrapping them in a fast-paced and interesting story about everlasting love, the characters of which are so lively, so real that it felt like they were living on the papers. I loved the parallel between the Valthreans and humans' history, the way she made it appear as if some of our key history events happened because of the immortals' involvement. The characters are likeable, I could feel sorry even for Madeleine too in some situations. The only thing I could list as negative would be that for me, sometimes it was just a tiny bit cheesy for me, but that's just only me, being less tolerant in this case.

The greatest gift a writer can give readers is something different. Natalie G. Owens, in this series (more books to come happily), is doing just that. It’s what I call trail blazing.

She has imbued historical fantasy with a brilliant love story and added dark magic and a great villain as well! The love story is gripping and the characters, Adrian and Emma are so well drawn and emotive, those looking for romance will be delighted.

Yet--! Well I said it was different didn’t I, there is darkness and magic; there is a also tale of immortal beings woven into the plot and truthfully, I found that fascinating.

Because of the romance and the realism of the lovers, there is suspense which is caused by a well-drawn baddie in the guise of Madeleine.

There are glimpses into the next books which sound, again, very different and pretty spectacular. I am looking forward to reading them.
The writing is elegant and the plot and characters are handled well. As a matter of fact the historical aspect is spot-on.
Really enjoyed it.

This is Everlasting Love!!!
WOW! Talk about everlasting love! This is the first book by Natalie Owens that I have read. I will definitely recommend this book to my friends. The road to fulfilling the promise of an everlasting love for Emma & Adam had indeed been symbolized by an eternity of roses. . .a single red rose daily to be precise. You have to read the book to find out why and how. Simply breathtaking! A journey you will not want to miss out. Highly recommended!

This is a wonderfully paced and exciting romance that grabbed my attention from the get go and held me captive until the end. The characters are amazing with so much life of their own that it is so easy to follow them throughout the story and feel their emotions.

As you are lead through the many paths this book has to offer you never know what emotion is hiding right around the corner.

So now I have to say straight off--as a writer reviewer I am the hardest to please! I want to give this a 4.5 for super close to perfect

It has been hard for me to get into a book lately because I notice the little problems. I didn't know what to think from the first chapter of this book because it was so different than Natalie G Owen's other works---all of which I have read. What is this about everlasting life?

But soon we got into a story with beautiful Victorian style that had Natalie stamped all over it.

The story is a romance between two people who are on the cusp of marriage. Unfortunately a dark sorceress Madeleine puts a spell on Adrienne, the hero, that whoever sleeps with him next will be bound to him with love forever. She plans to seduce him but thankfully the heroine Emma decides to go for it on her engagement night! Wowza

Her plans are dashed so Madeleine uses more dark magic to separate them before the wedding. Her reluctant lover doesn't remember anything and the heroine doesn't know where he is. Madeleine makes sure that both of them will live forever since their lives are tied, but if she has her way, they will never find each other again.

1. I love the dark sorceress.

I am a witch myself, and although I'm not the evil kind (it's fiction, y'all), I like reading about characters like Madeleine de Brandeville.

Her character is really well developed even as a villain and I also enjoy the young assistant she obtains later.

2. Seductive and sensual writing

Of course! It's NATALIE G OWENS. What else is there to expect but beautiful settings in Italy and England, elegant fashion, and a smart use of history and architecture.

And of course very classy romantic buildup :D

Adrienne can be a little rough when upset but he's that strong brooding type. Emma has lived a long time on her own so she can handle herself well.

3. This is definitely a page turner

My only quibble is that sometimes the descriptions of the history or the characters thought process take me out of the action in a distracting way. It could use just a bit of trim. But that is something that may only bother a writer.

Wahoo! Even though this is a much much longer than any of Natalie G Owen's other books it still flew by. I read it over just a few days and it's awesome.

Read it.

3.75 stars. A great set-up to the series, which has a fascinating mythology behind it. I'm looking forward to the next installment and learning more about the Valthreans and their enemies. I also enjoyed the character of Max, who's introduced in An Eternity of Roses, and found him quite intriguing.

I liked Emma and Adrian, the leads of An Eternity of Roses, and also liked Max, as mentioned above. The villain, Madeleine, is suitably villainous, but a bit one-note for much of the book, though once she does acquire more depth (I won't spoil the story by revealing how), she becomes a more interesting character.

Although I liked much of this book and really wanted Emma and Adrian to get their happy ever after, I found both characters frustrating at times. Emma, for being so damn passive at the beginning. She waits a decade (!) to really do anything about Adrian's disappearance? (She even berates *herself* for this near the end!) Adrian's passivity is also frustrating, but more believable; given what Madeleine did to him, he didn't have much choice. But Emma certainly did, and I didn't find her behavior believable. It seemed that the delay in her doing anything occurred more to service the plot than out of how her character would actually behave.

And I was upset with Adrian's reaction near the end when he learns the truth about Emma. I know Madeleine had done a number on the guy, but his viciousness to Emma seemed out of character and again to occur mostly to service the plot. He just wasn't a cruel or mean character (it certainly would have come out with Madeleine) and to have him treat Emma that way took him down several notches in my estimation. He partially redeemed himself by the end, but I just couldn't see him as all that heroic after that.

As usual with Ms. Owen's books, there are many beautiful passages, and the characters were well-developed and complex.

Looking forward to the next one!

In a magnificent accident, I was privileged to receive a copy of “An Eternity of Roses” for review. This work, weaved in rich, lyrical language, is meant to be savored in dark, quiet evenings beside a fire. Wrap yourself in the warmth of a favored comforter and be immersed in a story you will not want to rush.

We meet Emmaline and Adrian at the threshold of a life they breathlessly anticipate living together, until fate and the schemes of an immortal separate them. Inducted into an existence neither of them pursued, and with Adrian's memories seemingly lost, we watch as Emma's search for the only man who can hold her heart spans centuries.

Emma and Adam, as they become, face adversaries mortal and otherwise, each with an agenda. It is a world where sides are chosen, loyalties drawn, and consequences draw their due. The result is entirely worthwhile.

The writing is gifted, the editing pure prowess, and the presentation unfolds without a hitch. There are intimate scenes explicit enough to avoid if one is disturbed by an author who does not close the door, but there as well emotion rather than lust predominates.

There is a theme of love in this novel as being a gift given or received, rather than a treasure to steal or covet. A magic there surpasses the greed, hate, and covetousness of those who do not understand true power ... and that portrayal, I believe, was the author's intention from the start.

Do yourself the service of reading this novel. Experience a work of true talent in storytelling and wordcraft.

**Received for an honest review**

1807, England. All of Society is anxious and excited for the marriage of Lady Emmaline Deramore and Viscount Bournemouth, Adrian Segrave. All, that is, except for Lady Madeline de Brandeville, who despises Emmaline and craves Adrian. Just days before their wedding, a series of events occur that tear Emmaline and Adrian apart, leaving Emmaline without her love and Adrian without his memory of her.

Though the story centers around Emmaline and Adrian, it also includes the Valthreans, a society of immortals that have been around for centuries. Their history is given in the Prologue, and is woven beautifully throughout the story.

But this isn't just a story about two people who are madly in love with each other. It's a story about a love that is lost and found, that transcends time and distance, that perseveres and triumphs in the face of hopelessness and despair. Adrian and Emmaline's love for each other is beautiful and pure at the beginning, and it burns more intensely and a hundred times brighter when they are finally reunited.

This was a wonderfully moving story with memorable characters and a plot that not only kept me interested but had me anxious and excited when that climactic moment of finally finding each other happened between Adrian and Emmaline. And I can hardly wait to read more of this series.

I truly fell in love with An Eternity of Roses. The characters were well developed and the story streamlined.
Natalie G. Owens takes us on a fantastic journey of two lovers that last for about two centuries. Both Lady Emma and Viscount Adrian are made immortal due to the evil plans of Lady Madeleine. They are torn apart before they can marry by this evil enchantress's spells.
You have an age old feud of good versus evil that is thousands of years old.
You will enjoy the adventures each lover must take to concur evil and regain their chance of Happily Ever After. There are plenty of twists and turns, evil vs. good(with good winning).
Ms. Owen is a new author to me and I will definitely be buying the books in this series as she releases them.
BTW, I started and finished the book in one day. I couldn't put it down...LOL

Ms. Owens has penned a tale that spans centuries and a few countries as well. Her characters pulled me into their world and held me captive. Her descriptive words easily allowed me to visualize each scene and feel every emotion. I found myself rooting for the likable hero and heroine from the beginning. I also realized I loved to hate the villainess.

While reading, I found myself entering a fascinating paranormal world where I secretly wished I was one of the good guys.

I am very pleased that Ms. Owens will be continuing the series. I can't wait to read more about the world of the Valthreans.

This story is definitely going into my "To be Read Again" pile.

This. book was amazing! I was drawn in by the author's lush, poetic voice, and the historical setting. The characters were well drawn and the stunning backdrop of history and the characters moving through time is compelling. I really liked the herione and found her trials to be heartbreaking, and yet she endures and preserveres with grace and dignity. I can't wait to read the next book and find out about Max. Added to the sense of history is the strong descriptions and sense of place the author evokes as she has the character living in England, Germany, Italy, and creates such rich settings that one feels as if they are visiting these places with Emma.

An Eternity of Roses was beautifully written and a great read. Ms. Owens is very talented with description of characters and places. Emmaline and Adrian have a love that will last through endless odds and time. Lady Madeleine tears them apart on the eve of their wedding and casts an evil spell on them both. Still love conquers. Superb!

There are plenty of twists, turns and good and evil. My favorite kind of novel. I’m looking forward to the sequel. Five stars for sure!!

I was given a copy to review by the author. The story itself is wonderful. However there were several timeline errors, things like we met yesterday, when it was day before yesterday. Also the middle of the book has little action but hold out for an exciting ending. I can't wait to read book 2 Max's story.

Can love survive the test of time – and an evil curse?

DISCLAIMER: I was given a copy of this book by the author (via Goodreads/Shut Up and Read/Read It And Reap) in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

ADVISORY: This book contains mature, adult situations and dialogue.

Synopsis:

Emmaline and Adrian are just days away from their wedding when, in a fit of jealous rage, an immortal witch, Madeleine, places a curse upon them -- one which dooms them to spend an eternity apart. Madeleine kidnaps Adrian and causes him to lose all memory of his life before. She convinces him that his name is Adam, and that she is his wife, Marie. Even though she is with him she can’t make him love her, and his dreams are haunted by a dark-haired beauty. An old enemy of Madeleine’s turns up and she makes a run for it, so Adrian is finally able to escape from her clutches, and goes on to pursue a life of travel and adventure.

Madeleine’s curse on Emmaline purposely didn’t remove her memories of Adrian, because Madeleine wants to torment her for eternity. Over time, Emmaline follows clues, and one night finds her face to face with Adrian. But he doesn’t remember her, and they are separated before she has the chance to try and establish a connection with him. She eventually uncovers information that is valuable to the immortals. She also learns of the Valthreans (the immortal good guys), and chooses to align herself with them -- rather than with the evil Cult of the Snake (home to Madeleine and her cohorts). Over the centuries, she assists the Valthreans during times of war and peace, all the while searching for Adrian. They have some near misses, but fate and time do not seem to be working in their favor.

However, when an earthquake occurs and the devastation is broadcast around the world, Adrian (now known as Adam) is among the survivors. Emmaline (now known as Emma) uses her connections with the Valthreans to track him down, and travels to London to try and meet with him. Adam senses a connection and is strongly drawn to Emma, but his ordeal with Marie has left him damaged, suspicious and cautious. And with good cause, because Emma isn’t the only one who saw that broadcast. Now both Emma and Adam are on Madeleine’s radar … Can Emma find a way to break the curse, or will Madeleine destroy them all?

Comments:

I thought “An Eternity of Roses” was pretty good. It had an interesting storyline spanning several centuries and exotic locales. Emmaline/Emma was the main character, and as such was very well developed. Adrian/Adam’s character was less so, but he’s got less story-time. I hated Madeleine/Marie – justifiably. She was manipulative, evil, and bat-shiat crazy. Some of the minor characters were OK, but kind of glossed over. However, my favorite was Max. (I look forward to reading *his* story.)

I pledge my heart, body, and soul in eternal love to you. 5 dreamy sighs

Whew!! What a rush!! Although this book was different than I was expecting, it still grabbed me in its clutches fairly quickly, but with all of the mystery, suspense, intrigue, heartbreaks and twists & turns, I never knew which way it was going to tug me next!! It is so beautifully written that I found myself lost in the pages, so engrossed in the story that time flew past and I didn’t even realize it! “The rose then seemed to radiate more beauty, more vitality…” From the very beginning I fell for Adrian & Emmaline and loved how they loved each other. They seemed to have a sixth sense when it came to knowing when they needed each other - for example, Emma gets all freaked out and heads outside to regroup & hide, so to speak. Adrian heads outside a few minutes later, where they hide so that she can calm down. Of course that is a water downed version of what actually take place, but you get the idea. “You are meant to be mine. You are in my blood.” Now the blurb says this: “The Valthreans immortals series contains sexy heroes, strong heroines, intriguing immortals, magic, spells, mystery, amazing adventures, exotic settings, secret cults, and sensual love scenes.” But that just barely scratches the surface and does not convey the wealth of emotions you go through while reading this book!!! The whole concept was unique, for me at least. Usually being 'Immortal' means you are a vampire, shifter, god, demon, angel or something in between or even a mix of, but not with this book! Now if anything, THAT alone should get your attention! *innocent smile* But take EVERYTHING that IS this story and it becomes so much more than mere words can fully describe! “An eternity of ordeals ensued from that encounter with Fate, but things would finally change now.” “Mine, Emma. You’re mine and no one else’s. I’m marking you now.” I bawled for the last 40pgs or so. It was such a gut wrenching, heart pounding, 'hang on to your seat' ride of a story with a brilliantly beautiful or should I say beautifully brilliant, ending! Regardless, it was an amazing story that had a lot of twists, turns, surprises, mysteries & suspenseful moments that were written perfectly! As this was my first book if Natalie’s, I wasn't sure what to expect, but boy does she impress! Wait, that is too bland. She impresses, astounds, amazes, astonishes, delights…well you get the picture. Natalie is truly an exceptionally talented author and I cannot wait to read all of her books!

An Eternity of Roses (the Valthreans #1)
By Natalie G. Owens

A Romance Across Time- Austen, Paranormal style!

Make a cup of tea or pour a glass of wine to snuggle into this story of love that conquers all; time, immortality and evil-intentioned witch’s spells. This romance meanders through time with an adventurous flair and paranormal intrigue. When two lovers engaged to be married are thwarted by a jealous immortal witch of a woman, the adventure takes foot.

The story begins with ancient gods and mystical chalices that make mere men immortal. Two sects emerge, one wanting world dominance (of course- the aim of all evil cults) and the other defending the world against them. Their battle stretches across time and eventually the immortality comes to an undeserved woman, Madeleine de Brandeville. The villain also happens to be an accomplished witch.

Madeleine works for the Cult of the Snake but serves her own purpose as well. She wants the power and prestige of the Viscount of Bournemouthe who happens to be Adrian Segrave. Madeleine wants to be married to him so she can use his position to better herself and in the meantime appease the Cult that wants his influence with the royalty. However, Adrian is engaged to Lady Emmaline Deramore and only has eyes and heart for her. Madeleine casts a spell to steal Adrian which sets in motion a series of adventures. Through a series of events Emma joins forces with the Valthreans to combat Madeleine and the Cult.

Author Natalie Owens, has a poetic elegance in her writing reminiscent of the romantics of the 1800’s. The style of this series is Austen-like with flowing descriptive passages, and emotional drama added to a more modern paranormal adventure. The reader should be warned to take time with this story as the subtleties need to be savored as there is much detail given that is needed to understand all of the delicacies within.

“This particular day, God had painted a lackluster sky and overpopulated it with moisture-filled gray clouds.” By Natalie Owens from An Eternity of Roses (The Valthreans Book 1)

Filled with gems like this one, Natalie Owens provides the reader with a journey into the wonder- world of painting with words in her paranormal romance An Eternity of Roses. Spanning several centuries, the story is about love—the power thereof and the perseverance of those lucky souls who’d found true love and wanted to reclaim it. It shows that love is indestructible, neither time nor evil could obliterate it. This is a powerful story written with excellent word usage to draw the reader right into the world of Emmaline and Adrian.

Every story has to have a villain and An Eternity of Roses is no different. Without providing a spoiler, I have to mention that Madeleine de Brandeville was portrayed as a well-balanced antagonist with enough character traits for the reader to understand her motivations. At times I pitied the woman for her brazen refusal to accept that love can never be forced.

This is not a quick read and readers should prepare themselves to spend some time with the characters Ms. Owens so skillfully created. The language is prosaic and the imagery is superb. The plot was well planned and executed and the ending left the reader with a sigh of satisfaction which in my opinion is a sign of a good book.

Overall this is a book I would recommend to all lovers of paranormal romance.

The Eternity of Roses is about Emmaline, who was about to be married with her fiance Adrian, and they were seperated because of a person called Madeleine, who was in love with Adrian.
Later, both of them were turned into immortal beings, 'Valthreans'. Adrian, being kidnappedand drugged, could not remember anything in his past life. He only knew that he eloped with a person called Marie.
This book was definitely a joy to read. I didn't really understand why the author was so obbsessed with immortals, but apart from that and the strange names people have, I really liked it.
The story was fast-paced and well-planned, and it was also well-written with fitted descriptions.
I loved how the author described the characters, such that all of them, Emmaline, Adrian, all of them seemed to be living on paper.
I also liked how the story connected with the past, and there were a lot of explanations about what Valthreans were, although the fact that it happened in India was a little strange.
After reading this book, I could see that love was a very strong bond and even though two people may be seperated by many obstacles, they will remain loving each other. Time, and space are not obstacles to love.
This book is definitely somethig I would recommend to people who are looking for a romantic but easy read.

My Thoughts:

An Eternity of Roses by Natalie G. Owens is a well written historical paranormal romance which has a hype for this series that’s definitely warranted. You find some strange and deadly unique, entertaining, and thoroughly addicting story.

Even though the story is narrate in third person something that normally doesn’t captive me that much. The story line is fast paced and pulse pounding from the very first chapter. With a hot blonde & blue eyed Adrian Segrave he’s really is drop dead delicious LOL. And we found a strong Heroine that will run to the end of the world to be reunited with her true love no matter what that witch did to curse their marriage. Emma’s adventures will take to different places around Europe.
About our villain well is a she a witch Lady Madeliene and I guess we girls kind of hate more when is a woman the bad in the story. She kidnaps Adrian and put a spell on him making him forget everything about his past and gives him another name & worst get him as her husband in a loveless marriage. He doesn’t feel a drop of love for her.
The sex scene are steamy and well written with class between Emma & Adrian but you won’t find a lot of does. All the stolen identity, separation, revenge and a true love will bring some tears to your eyes.
Overall, I was pleased that the story tied up rather well and while it left me eager for the second book.

A sweeping, lavishly descriptive tale written in the style of high-Victorian Gothic romance, with fairy tale elements that provide a paranormal twist. An Eternity of Roses spans the Regency era to modern day in a story of cursed lovers destined to live an eternity apart.
This book is not your typical fast-paced, plot-driven Paranormal Romance and may not appeal to those who dislike highly descriptive writing styles. It read more as a historical romance with a twist.
I loved the story's concepts and the world the author has created, and some of the side characters, especially Max and Madeleine were intriguing, but for some reason I failed to really connect on that visceral level with the hero and heroine. Perhaps it was because they spent so much of the story apart, or because it felt as though neither of them ever truly grabbed their destiny by the horns and fought back until so late in the day. The plot dragged for me at times, seeming to get bogged down in minutiae and back story, and in the latter half, I found myself skipping over many paragraphs hoping to get to the meat of the action.
Having said that, the story is very well written and highly imaginative. Although a stand-alone story, it leaves the door open for future stories in the Valthrean world.

Madeleine de Brandeville works for The Cult of the Snake has her sights set on Adrian Segrave~Viscount Bournemouthe. There's just one problem he's engaged to Lady Emmaline "Emma" Deramore. Adrian and Emma share an unique bond that Madeleine is desperate to break. So Madeleine hatches a plan to separate the two lovers for all time by making each of them immortal. When Adrian goes missing Emma is devastated but doesn't give up that she'll find Adrian someday despite what Madeleine says. Emma learns that there are two groups of immortals The Cult of the Snake and The Vathreans. Emma catches glimpses of Adrian during their separation. Will Madeleine get what she deserves? Will Adrian remember the truth? Will Emma be reunited with Adrian? Your answers await you in An Eternity of Roses.

I loved how this book spanned not just years but centuries! I was fascinated by the history and culture presented. Adrian and Emma's love is timeless. I loved that Emma didn't give up on finding Adrian. Adrian would only catch glimpses in dreams of his true love. I despised Madeleine from the first. I look forward to reading more of the series.

A beautiful love story that takes you across the centuries and various parts of the world. The writing flows well, and considering the "virtual" thickness of my ebook version, I found that there were no boring moments. The descriptions are wonderful, and, as a reader, you have no problem diving into the plot and the world created by the author.
Also, this first installment lays the grounds for a much bigger plot, that of the Valthreans and the Cult of the Snake, which I definitely want to find out about. And don't get me started on Max :) (Cue: bring on book 2 ASAP!)
Definitely a fab read :)

I received this book in exchange for a review.

Emma and Adrian are awaiting their wedding day. Just before their wedding day, Adrian is kidnapped and Emma is turned into an immortal. The spell also causes her to forget the details of what happened. After Emma recovers her memory, she begins her search for Adrian. Adrian has been turned into an immortal too. After two centuries, Emma is able to find Adrian now going by the name of Adam. Adam doesn't remember her. Can Emma help him recover his memory and rediscover their love?

I really enjoyed this book. It could use a little editing but it wasn't bad. I would love to read the next in the series!

I enjoyed this unusual tale about two lovers who lose each other for decades due to someone else's evil intentions. More than anything, it's a testament to the power, strength and durability of love. Ms. Owens writes very well and it was a joy reading an ebook which contains so few errors.

I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This book was amazing! It had all the elements of a well written fantasy and romance. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy romance, suspense, fantasy, culture, and history.
