I'd say more like 2.5. The original idea is captivating, but could have been handled better. The writing is more than decent, except for a couple of blunders I hope result from poor proofreading of the Kindle edition ('breath' for 'breathe' and 'consul' for 'console') with particularly vivid descriptions of sights and places. Unfortunately, i found the development of the love story too easygoing and lacking in depth. After the first third, the book changes settings and the H/h relationship, as well as the things that start happening around them, sound more and more sappy and packed full of clichés. There I quickly lost interest and had to struggle not to quit. The final chapters luckily improve, with quick developments, some drama, and the H's (and the h's) issues confronted with introspection and depth. The ending packs these up even too neatly, together with several other themes which clues had been abundantly scattered throughout the previous chapters. It is satisfactory, but not so nice as to redeem the lacking parts. I am disappointed, because my idea of romance stands much nearer to Ms Radke's than to what the label currently implies. A curiosity I found endearing: I don't know when this book was originally written, but it shows a peculiar absence of modern technology in everyday life, especially in communications.
Jared is in need of a tutor. Ellen is a teacher and loves to be able to help her children. She meets Jared thinking that she will need to teach a child. She is shock when she discovers that the one needing help is Jared. Jared also convinces her to help him at work since his assistant is leaving. Ellen can't say no and she accepts the job. This couple gets closer with time. Ellen was very patient. This book was an easy read. The topic was interesting. 2/5 Fangs cross posted at my blog http://mrsleifs.blogspot.com
I was somewhat disappointed in this book. I have enjoyed this series, but read them out of order. I didn't realize this was #2. I think the author improves with later books series. The characters seem to develop better in later books. The premise was a good one, successful adult male unable to read hires a tutor. But parts of it seemed disjointed and some things are never resolved. My disappointment will not stop me from reading Nancy Radke books, because on the whole I enjoy them.
What an awesome story. I loved this book and am looking forward to reading more in the series as well as other books by this author. I love how good they are and without the sex and heavy petting.
A deep secret, a lonely tutor, Romance.... Ms. Radke has penned a wonderful story With a dashing hero who has a deep dark secret that he has kept his whole life.. That only gets exposed to .... NEVER MIND NO SPOILERS allowed.... This is a very good read.
The hero was frustrating and proud. Made me want to kick him in the pants. The heroine was too nice for her own good - her family walked all over her. It was a good read, though.
