The Five Kingdoms are in chaos. Armies march to war led by the Master of the Torr, a powerful wizard who will stop at nothing to bring Zollin, a young wizard from the northern kingdom of Yelsia, under his control. Meanwhile, a rogue sorceress is bewitching every man who sees her, each one pledging his life and death to her cause. She sends men north to find the young wizard and bring him into her army. As kings strive for greater power among the Five Kingdoms and magical beasts awaken across the land, Zollin, the Wizard of Yelsia, is nowhere to be found.
This book sees the main characters coming into their own. They have been through a lot and it shows with the choices they have to make. The journey is still long though and things are changing. On to book 5.
I enjoyed the first two books, but the lack of character development and the castles of completely immature characters has spoiled an otherwise good series.
I have waited to post a review. I gave it as many chances as I possibly could. In fact, i waited years and 3 readings before making this review. In all that time, my opinion has only grown stronger.
First of all, it is easy to forget that Zollin and a couple of the other protagonists are teenagers. At least I have forgotten a few times before, which led to many negative opinions about this series. Eventually, I came to view the writing as, in a sense, amazing that the author was able to encompass the illogical and erratic behavior and reasoning of a teenager. But my issue comes with how things conclude.
It seems that the writing was not able to differentiate between the personality of a teenager and life's resolutions. I guess the lesson from here on out is, if you act impulsively, but with a tidbit of maturity, then everything will work out fine? Idk.
But from this book on, it is a consistent pattern of actions of profound wisdom and maturity immediately followed up with selfish and immature moments. It becomes, and stays, quite irritating to read.
There are bright spots, which is why i gave this a 2 star.
If you enjoy this at all, please take advantage of it being part of kindle unlimited so you dont have to spend extra money on this dumpster fire (but it is worth the inclusion).
I enjoyed the first seven books of the Five Kingdoms series. My review is in the first of the books. But elements were introduced as the series progressed that made me decide not to continue after seven.
I admire Neighbors' writing skills and his imagination. For readers who don't share my objections, you may find him to be one if the best authors you read. Characters like Zollin are what place a book in my favorites list. But, Zollin's morality was not typical of the characters in the story, even the 'good' ones.
This is the 4th book of the Five Kingdoms! I have enjoyed reading these books. Love the story, the caracters. I have included this saga in my top picks. Toby Neighbors knocked this epic right out of the ball park..........Home Run 😄
While Zollin and Brianna are tracking down the dragon to destroy it the powerful wizard, Offendorl, is still stalking Zollin to bring him under the control of the Torr. Offendorl is also learning how to bring the dragon under his control. Chaos reigns as the war for ultimate power begins. Zollin must defeat Offendorl as he seeks the whereabouts of Bartoom, the dragon. He must also find Brianna once again, if she is still alive. There are a number of traitors and backstabbers in this story. Who they are will surprise the reader.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series so far but I question some of word usage of the author as sometimes he uses words that seem to modern for the story. The one that comes to mind is "ozone". He also seems to use some medical terms that I would not think people would have known. All-in-all this does not detract from the story it just makes you stop and think...............hmmm....how would they have known that?

This well written, grabs hold of you and doesn't let go. Descriptions are vivid and are easy to imagine. Great series. Don't miss out.
I'm sorry that I didn't get my review out in a timely fashion I was enjoying the books so much
Ok, this author is really dedicated to make this an amazing and unforgettable story. I'm already finished with book 5. I just couldn't wait to read it. Now I'm just going urge you all to keep reading because the author admits that this story has really flowered into something that has made her feel the same as you and I, as readers, that there's more to come. That sentence was way too long.
I am very much enjoying this series. I've already read all of the rest of them and am just marking them as read because I finished them while at my mother's home in Arkansas. I would recommend them to anyone who enjoys the fantasy genre and am currently looking for the next series. If anyone has any suggestions I would be thrilled to hear from them.
Even though most of the characters are still separated at this point the action really picks up, and it finally feels like the story is moving forward. The previous book felt like fillers. The power struggles of the Kingdoms and internal turmoil of Zollin and Brianna’s relationship make this book much better than book 3.
Another great installment. These characters just keep on growing and are becoming favorites of mine. I look forward to moving forward. Filled with action and suspense and shocking events, this addition aims to please. Great story! One thing I must mention, is that I think it would be good for an editor to take a second look and correct some small grammatical errors.
This is going to be an excellent book I cant wait to get started. I want to see if the get eaten by the dragon. was way good but now I am hanging of another cliff and waiting for the next one
