A traditional regency. Girl who was "ruined" by a scoundrel, guy with amnesia, no sex to speak of.

Back when this book was written I thought that publishing companies were still employing line editors but this book looks like their editor was out to lunch.

Drama and romance

I did like the main characters and the story but felt it bogged down in the middle, too much dithering.

Cripes, I couldn't get past the 2 obvious mistakes on the very first page of this book:

1. A Spanish woman would never refer to a man as "querida" which is the feminine form. She would use "querido" instead. Is Ann Barbour illiterate about language genders?

2. Spaniards do not drink grappa (which is Italian), they drink orujo.

If it had been just one error, I would have carried on, but 2 mistakes on the very first page of the book is too much.

I stole this from a carwash and read it on the beach because i thought i was supposed to read a Harlequin roman novel on the beach. but i am warning you now it's NOT a romance novel, it's a thin dull mystery. There is only one piddly little kiss at the very end and not a single steamy scene, not one. The cover is deceiving and there is a unforgivable lack of 19th century sex.
