Deep in the muggy swamps where there is but one rule, kill or be killed, a new species has emerged—born not from nature but spawned from evil.
Octavia wasn’t stupid. Those unfortunate souls who have crossed paths with her didn’t just become swamp creatures, they became the least deadly of them. She hadn’t counted on the strong spirits of those she’d cursed.
From those murky swamp depths, a hero emerged. The type from which legends are born.
Moss, whose sensual iridescent tattoos are in fact thanks to his reptilian side, still struggles to come to terms with his fate and wants nothing more than to be left alone.
Beth’s life becomes upturned when she reluctantly agrees to accompany her idiotic brother on a hunt for the Bog Man. When she becomes separated from the others she comes face to face with the legend himself . . . only no one ever mentioned how damn sexy he was.
The swamp’s dark history tests the duo on their survival skills as well as luring them deeper into the magic of the swamp.
Author Bobbi Romans is as quirky as her works tend to be. She’s been on a talk show, the cover of the Walt Disney Souvenir magazine, married two couples and has a football team sized family.
Born and raised in VA she now resides in the south where she taps away her next story...which much like her life, she never knows where its heading. She’s all over the net so following along her whacky trail in life isn’t hard.
I love paranormal romances because anything can happen. I also tend to like books with shifters and magic. This book is great because it is a little different. You don't read about swamp shifters every day. Beth is a fun character who thinks like a normal, strong woman with a sassy side. Moss is a hot, damaged alpha male. There is also a magical element and an evil witch. Overall a lot of fun and kept me turning pages. At the end, I wanted more. I recommend this one if you like steamy, paranormal romance with shifters, protective alpha males, and feisty, sassy females.
Definitely a must read. An amazing read in fact. I love the characters, especially Moss. I'm a person who lives for paranormal romance and this is an original. I have over 300 books (all paranormal romance of course) and none of them are about shifters from the swamp. What an awesome twist. This book is extremely exciting, super sexy, dangerously dark, so steamy, keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes you want to keep reading. I can't wait for more. If you're a paranormal romance buff like me, I highly recommend this book. A big thumbs up to Bobbi!!!
After the first chapter I thought I would stop reading. A lot of detailed graphic sex. Too much for me, so I just skim through that, back to the main plot. Well, I bought, it so I might as well read some more. I'm very glad I did finish it. Even with all the sex, it really did have a great plot. In fact, the plot was amazing, holding then surprising me with a huge twist in the story. I never saw it coming. A strange and very different book that had a great ending.
Okay, I'm sorry but the heroine in this novel, Beth, is stupid. I am also wondering how you can see the color of someone's nips when they are wearing bra.
It feels like everyone is raping each other, to be honest.
Beth is so stupid. I was rooting for the evil witch because she seemed to be the smartest, but that's not saying much at all.

When I got a request for Swamp Magic I immediately accepted it based on one thing, and one thing only….how unique it sounded. I read a lot of shifter romance and yet had never heard of any swamp shifters. Snakes I have heard of, but never read because snakes ick me out. Gross. No thanks. Swamp shifters though….gators, reptiles, ect…was something I could get behind and so when I read this blurb I knew I had to check it out.
Moss is one of those humans who was cursed by the swamp witch into a endless lifetime of servitude doing her bidding and being her sex slave. When he stumbles upon a wayward human female lost in the swamp he doesn’t hesitate to help her find her way. Into his bed that is. Though Beth knows she should be weary of the man who materializes right out of the murky swamp water, she finds herself more intrigued then scared. What follows is some awesome sex in the middle of the swamp in a questionable rustic cabin.
Even though Moss and Beth get together fairly early in the book, I did find there to be a solid story line that played out at a good pace as the book unfolded. The story behind Moss and his background was well thought out and implemented. I enjoyed that there even was a back story so I was thrilled it was well done. Beth holds her own as a heroine and she has a few shining moments that made me like her. The secondary characters, including Beth’s timeless aunt, Moss’s fellow shifter friend and the witch herself are all well rounded characters who bring life to the story. I wish the author would have left the secondary love story alone though. It felt a bit to much and took away from the main purpose of the book, Moss and Beth.
Where Swamp Magic goes wrong is in some of the stilted writing, editing and prolonged story line. At times the writing was jarring and seem to come off as forced. Some of the dialogue just didn’t flow. Some of that might be contributed to cultural differences but some of it just didn’t sound right. Another editorial look seems to have been in order before publication and a lot of it could have been cleaned up. I also have a huge pet peeve for authors throwing in random new villains towards the end of a book. It always feels like the author needed to make the book longer and so he/she throws in more obstacles for the hero/heroine to overcome. It is rarely done where is feels seamless and so it gets on my nerves. It takes away from what the author is trying to accomplish and so I have to mention it here.
Swamp Magic is an entirely unique story that, as a whole, I enjoyed. Sure, it needed some fine tuning but the story won out in the end and I finished it in record time.
The book was a fast paced read with the main part of the story happening in what seemed to be a day or so.
Its started out with 'Beth' becoming lost in the swamp. only to be saved by she was initially fearing until she seen the lucrative 'bog monster' who happens to be a very sexy half man half reptile named 'Moss'. she is immediately drawn to him.
Never Before had he experienced this kind of vulnerability- the urgency of wanting her to feel everything he was, from the raging desire to the intense need for her to understand who and what he truly was.
Beth is a fun and quirky character who doesn't seem to know her own powers until she needs to use them. At times i found her to be quite an engaging character whose wit literally made me laugh out loud at her antics and free spirit. While Moss was exceptionally hansom with his rugged good looks and old school charm. he was mysterious and i just wanted to get to know him better and maybe hear more from him. Then there was Damian he was also a hot character who was definitely genuine with his feelings toward beth when they first met. i kinda felt sorry for him to begin with and really thought the story was going to have a love triangle. if they were to be a love triangle then i am not sure which one I would have hoped won. luckily though, in came 'Grace'- Beth's Aunt. Whose long since broken but not necessarily mended heart was soon on the mend when she met Damien.
the sex scenes were quite tasteful and not at all smutty. The love they found in each other was actually really refreshing and it was so nice for her to understand from the start that there would ultimately perhaps always be something between them that kept them apart.
Something in hime screamed wild, untamed and dangerous and she revelled in it
Swamp magic took me by surprise. I was not sure how I would enjoy a setting in the swamp, but it truly added a good background to the story. The mysticism that surrounds the swamp fit perfectly into this story. I personally love shifter stories, but am use to the more "traditional" shifters: lions, tigers and bears..But Bobbi Roman was able to use nontraditional animals and still bring the animal magnitism... The story will grow on you and before you know it you are hooked. And it leaves you wanting to continue..hint.hint..need book two. This story is too good to stop now. This is my first book of Bobbi Roman's, but will not be my last !..
I was so excited for Swamp Magic to actually come out in print!!. Moss is a unique character, unlike any I've ever encountered in the many books I've read. All of the characters were developed really well, and I felt as if I could SEE them come to life on the pages. Of course, I don't have to tell anyone who has read the book how HOT it is, pun intended, but it is a FUN read as well. The mix of heat, humor, and surprise was well worth the wait for print. I am sure that Bobbi's second book in this series, Under The Full Moon, will also not disappoint...
I have read the author's other works and couldn't wait for Swamp Magic to be released. Now I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next in this series. The hero was to die for, and Ms. Romans has described him with such detail, you just have to fall in love with him. The heroine is a strong woman, which I like. No wilting violets in Ms. Romans' books. I recommend this book. If you like hot paranormal romance, grab Swamp Magic.
I usually do not read paranormal books. In fact, I have never been interested in a book about shifters, but this one caught my eye. I love the characters and I am glad they don't shift into a wolf or other overused animals. Instead one is a reptile and the other is an Armadillo! And I love both Grace and Beth's personalities! I kept laughing at them while I was reading! I am really glad I read it and can't wait to read the second one!
I enjoyed it. The book takes the reader to a dark place, the southern swamps. Who would ever think a swamp and a scaley dude could be sexy. It makes me even more intrigued to read the next in the series, because Romans has already introduced those main characters. There seemed to be an excessive amount of cursing, but after awhile it just became the style of the book and the personality of the characters. Glad I had the chance to meet Romans at My Fav Books!
This book was great. The fact that it was truly unique made it so much more interesting. Who knew bog monsters could be so good looking. Swamp Magic was steamy, sexy, and even funny. I highly recommend reading it.
Swamp Magic has a really unique storyline in that the hero is a "partial" shape shifter into a reptile. Let me tell you...I think it takes real talent for an author to get me hot over an alpha male with a split tongue, claws and scales that shimmer on his skin...but I was attracted to Moss as much as any other heart-throb hero.
This is the second Bobbi Romans book I've read and she has a quirky, smart-ass writing style that I enjoy. Beth was a feisty, independent heroine who acted rationally most of the time but she had a few moments when I wanted to slap her upside the head.
I was really, really surprised by the twist this story took in the middle with the witch, Octavia and the sex spells she cast. Personally I had no problem with it, but if you're a reader that does not like the H/h to have sexual relations with others once they are "together" (regardless of the reasons why it happened), then you will want to steer clear of this story.
There were a few parts within the story where I would have enjoyed more "showing" instead of "telling". And I felt a little lost a couple of times about what exactly was going on. Similar to another reviewer, I'm not sure I understood why a new set of villains were added at the very end of the story, unless they are important to a sequel, in which case, I think they should have been hinted at / introduced a little earlier.
Overall, this was an entertaining story with a very unique storyline. However, I don't see myself reading it again and I wasn't moved to tears, hence only 3 stars. I did laugh and smile quite a few times!
Passion in the most unlikely of places. The swamps are not a safe place during the day, let alone at night. Beth is stranded in the bogs and is rescued by a man/monster. She gives into her baser desires and has an incredible one night stand that leaves her feeling love. Is it possible that Moss is her everything? Through drama and trials can they eventually find peace in each other?
