Automobile Association AA (Great Britain) was founded in 1905 to provide vehicle insurance, driving lessons, motoring advice, travel guides & road maps.
I have the original 1968 edition. If I was living abroad, reading this book I'd imagine that every Englishman/woman must be living crammed in between a castle and a cathedral, with crown jewells and old masters, suits of armour and illuminated manuscripts piled up around them. Not far off, actually.
Predated a Google-Maps and en masse APP space navigation era, this comprehensive book of the UK masterpieces encompass plentitude of information not only arts-related geographically, but historical and bibliographical.
While usage of this folio is hard to imagine upon travelling on the move , it's a brilliant source of knowledge to acquire.
This is a beautifully produced book, packed with information. The practical details are well out of date, but most of the locations are timeless. I have owned it for years, but used it anger for the first time today, researching for a short visit to Essex and Suffolk. Highly recommended.
