A good book to brushup and learn new comunication techniques. Communication is they key and you should be good at it. Pick up this book and get the basics right. From there on, you can follow the myraid books pointed by the author. Recommend this for all.
This is a great overview of communication skills, complete with helpful advice that would be useful for anybody. From children to the elderly, from successful professionals the unemployed - all of us could use some help with our communication skills. Kuhnke does an excellent job of explaining the basics of communication, and provides some very helpful practical advice.
There's really nothing here that is revolutionary or surprising. It will be no surprise to the reader that deeper, well-rounded voices give an air of confidence to your message, that short emails that get straight to the point are preferable to stream-of-consciousness rambling, or that listening is the key to great interpersonal communication. However, we could all use a reminder, and this book is extremely helpful in that sense.
My biggest complaint with this book was the frequent references to other books in the "For Dummies" series. I could have used fewer salesman call-to-action pitches and more practical examples of the principles that were taught here.
All in all, though, this is an excellent book that is worth reading.
Wonderful book to improve your communication skills. I think the importance of listening skill was explained extraordinarily. I found the anecdotes very useful. I am fortunate to read this book and I hope helps everyone to communicate effectively.
As many readers reviews in Goodreads, this book only explained basic communication concepts. It seemed like a college text. I felt it lacked workbook methods to specifically improve communication skills.
I started thinking about my review for this book about halfway through reading it. I was keeping in mind the entire time that it had the potential to read like a manual for repairing the car, at least according to another reader. This format would've been helpful, but I did not get that understanding through my reading. The authors regular mentioning of additional books by the publisher, herself , and other authors was extremely distracting. I find the format intention of bouncing around from chapter chapter out of order to be very confusing if you're trying to make sense how to build up your communication skills. This happened so much, I found it made reading through difficult. My notes to myself that I've written inside the book note that chapters 12 through 16 are very hard to get through... not as beneficial as chapters 1 through 11. I give my review with a heartfelt 2 only because I truly feel that it deserves a 2 1/2, but not a three. As always even if I pick up one or two pointers from a book im satisfied. Not one id recommend.
