In this mythical poem from talented children's author Jorge Luján, it is the rooster who is the poet of the day. At dawn, his song draws forth the universe and gives way to the dance of beings and objects, all dreamily rendered in color by award-winning illustrator Manuel Monroy. This auspicious collaboration of author and illustrator results in a bilingual picture book at once simple enough to appeal to small children yet complex enough that adult readers can find joy in the verse and images over and over again.
Spanish to English translation book. Read out loud in Spanish--
3.5... Very very simple book about a rooster waking up with the sun. The poem was the story and it was very sweet but very short. I enjoyed the beautiful illustrations more than the story. The pictures of the day to evening and the rooster were praiseworthy enough to be on my wall as art.
I used this bilingual story for a chickens/roosters/chicks-themed story time program for both Spanish and bilingual story time (in Spanish for Spanish story time and in English for bilingual story time). The short story is actually a descriptive poem that captivates adults and children alike. The illustrations are stunning!
Imagine the sky filled with sparkling stars that form the majestic rooster. Rooster/Gallo is a regal poem set to beautiful images that will touch adults just as much as children.
