Zombies suck, but they’re not after brains! Forget mindless rotting corpses shuffling along. These zombies are young, hot, and looking for action. One day Kai Bauer is tending vineyards in Germany, the next he’s on a plane heading for… well, he doesn’t really know. Wait a minute! He’s a what? And they have to drink what to live forever? The transition begins on his nineteenth birthday. He must find a mate in four years or he’ll have a long, un-fun life.
That’s Jasper’s problem too. After decades, the ex-priest has given up on finding a mate. He’s willing to be Kai’s mentor and friend. Gorgeous, distant, and off-limits, meet young, virile, and gay.

These travels provide the inspiration behind many of the detailed settings and characters throughout Z.'s work. Z. thinks all writers and publishers of M/M are promoting equality, since everyone deserves a happily ever after.
Its official!!! I want to be a Zombie!!! Well I want to be one of Z's gay zombies...because shambling, rotting , brain eating creatures of the dead these ARE NOT! Oh no.These guys are hot, hot hot and they have a very interesting liquid diet! * cough*
Cute, quirky, entertaining and sexy, I have to admit I really enjoyed getting to know them all. Its not often a paranormal story comes up with something different so this was a nice surprise and a completely different take on the Zombie lore we've come to expect... Which made me very happy as I usually go running for the hills if the ' Z ' word is mentioned! I blame sneaking in to see ' Night Of The Living Dead ' when I was 15 for my phobia!
Kai has a visit from two gorgeous mysterious men, Beau and Lafayette, at the beginning of the book and is whisked away from a not so great life with a not so nice Uncle and dropped into a new one that not only holds a bombshell about what he truly is, but also has him questioning whether he is actually as straight as he thinks too... Okay WE know from the word go he's obviously going to get his Zombie, but bless him he doesn't, so watching him, wander wide eyed and innocent through his induction into this new world, is fun. Jasper is an ex priest and assigned to Kai as his mentor and guide and as these Zombies are destined to find a mate, well I'll let you guess the rest! Another thing I liked was that Kai finds a book, chronicling how some of the couples got together so we get a couple of side stories alongside the main one.
There were a couple of things I would have liked a bit more info about, like Kai's backstory and what started the Zombie clan, as it appears that some are born with the Zombie gene, ( Kai being one of those) although humans can be turned, but because I was enjoying it so much I pushed them aside and just got cosy with the story. A touch of BDSM and lots of sizzling man on zombie action made for a slightly camp but thoroughly entertaining story.
Kai's cousin Ulrich is a sweetie and there's more very likeable supporting characters who will no doubt get airtime in the next story. I'd love to see Corey and Jackson get their third and Ulrich is definitely up next if the teaser ending is anything to go by, so I'm looking forward to whats in store next for ' Club Zombie ' and its horny boys!
I read and loved Z Alloras Dark Angels hot rocker series about 18 months ago, so I'm now going to check out the rest of her books that I've not read. One thing I do love are Z's covers, I'm a big PL Nunn cover fan and most of her books are done by PL. This one isn't but its purty fine!! Check out the hawt naked guy! Yum! Going into my keepers!
The idea was really good. The execution left a lot to be desired.
Where to start? The depictions of Germany and Germans could not be further from the truth. It’s one of the most developed countries in the world and also super Lgbt+ friendly, and yet the MC Kai teaches his cousin the concept of flying in first class. The farm where Kai works at the beginning of the story makes me think of the 19th century (there are no technologies, nothing), and when thinking about the possibility of being gay, Kai thinks of a super hateful way people in Russia can treat gays. First of all that came out of fucking nowhere and there were no trigger warnings. Second of all did the author think Russia is a neighborhood in Germany? I haven’t gotten past ch 2 in my review, so I wouldn’t call these spoilers yet.
Spoilers and possible triggers ahead. The book surprises with casual mentions of slave chambers, terminally ill relatives, virgin shaming. I quit at 33% when for the last 10 minutes or so I had been reading about a different couple finding each other and forming a relationship in a book that the MC is also reading. Kai was reading a book in a book. Of a different couple. Was it intended as a world building method? It’s a rhetorical question. I don’t care.
Anyways, I really wanted to like this. I suspended all my disbelief early on and unfortunately it was not enough for me to enjoy it.
I'm gonna go ahead and give this a 3. If you remove all the zombie club scenes, it's actually pretty cute. I think jizz vampires would be a better discription, than zombie. The zombie sex club...not not hot, and could have been glossed over. But, some of the other zombie couples were kind cute.
Let me just say that this is in NO way a typical zombie story. No horror, no gore and no brain eating.
For starters, these zombies are gay boys that have specific DNA tags that trigger a transition at the age of 19. From then on, in order to remain immortal, they will need to ingest...spunk!!!
Their main goal is to find their mate and bond with them. I just loved learning about how Beau and Lafayette met. Over their long years together, these lovers have made a safe-haven of sorts for all zombies. They even go around the world looking for boys close to transition to help them out and bring them home to the estate.
This is how Kai makes it to the States. Beau and Lafayette come to Germany and introduce him to his new existence. He doesn't know how to react at first and is sort of lost. He's sent to live with Jasper on the estate to help him settle in. There is a great build-up of sexual tension and smoking hot chemistry.
Club Zombie was pretty amazing and I loved all the references to the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
so this one.. it wasnt a bad story... but had a little less storyline then i like.. this was more.. sex and sex haha.. that being said this is one of the few zombie books ive enjoyed for the most part.. i am just sort of wishing for more plot.
Probably not the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of zombies. But these aren't Romero zombies, or voodoo zombies either. They're not mindless or violent, they aren't dead or decaying, they don't eat brains... How are they like zombies? Okay, they aren't. They are hot (eternally) young slutty guys who need to eat semen daily to survive. Obviously if this were a real species/medical condition people who had it would not call themselves zombies since that term carries a host of negative associations, but hey, you read the paragraph I just wrote, yes? Clearly this is not meant to be realism, and it is not one of those books where some supernatural whatever is a metaphor for something else, this is just cute men having lots of sex while also hoping to find true love.
It was fun. If you are like me and tend to approach books in a rigorous frame of mind, wanting scientific correctness and sensible behavior and all the plot holes patched, well, you need to put that aside before reading. This is like eating ice cream for dinner, something you are allowed to do because you are adult, but with the added benefit that the book will not make you fat. Well, maybe, there is a lot of talk of creamy deliciousness in here, maybe you want to order Natural Harvest and plan some culinary experimentation.
A note about the sex: Zombies appear to be big into BDSM and exhibitionism. They own a sex club at which the two are combined, along with providing easy supplies of "essence" (AKA cum). I am not turned on by any of these kinks. Paddling, ouch. No judgment on those who enjoy practicing or reading about such matter, I just wasn't expecting it from the synopsis. However, 85% of the kink is concentrated into one section, so if you don't like this stuff you can just skip, beginning where Kai and Jaz head to the club and pick up again a few chapters on. Nothing plot-important happens other than Kai realizing he is attracted to Jaz, which is already obvious to the reader.
Despite not being into most of the actual sex parts of the book I did enjoy the relationship between the two MCs. Bonus kudos to Allora for having both be equally inexperienced; I'm tired of virgins being "taught" by casanovas.
Disclaimer: I internet-know the author and received a free copy of the book. However, the other couple books of Allora's I have listed were added before we "met".
I need to add bookshelves entitled "fun" and "original". Z. Allora takes a standard trope--zombies--and turns it on its ear. Our boys suck heads all right, but it's not brains they're after.
While many moments are light-hearted, beneath the hotness and playfullness is some pretty solid world-building, and some very complex relationships as our modern day zombie, Kai, navigates a world so foreign and far removed from his uncle's vinyards, his former home. For his own protection and training, mystery men take him away to a club in my home state of South Carolina (whoot!) and inform him that he needs to injest semen to survive. An intriguing and introspective roommate smoothes the way for Kai's self-acceptance, and I hope the book's ending means that there will be more books in this series.
I love stories where the characters grow throughout the book, and I got character developement in abundance with this little gem.
Okay, so this is not the best written book ever, but it's better than many I've read in this genre, a lot better. It doesn't pretend to be deep and heavy, although it does skate over some pretty heavy subject, like abuse, slavery and crippling lack of confidence. It is also a light, quick read and very much a 'feel good' book.
I don't understand the comment that said there was no character development because, for me the protagonist, Kit undergoes a lot of change, some of it fundamental, in his view of himself, his family and his pre conceptions.
The book is funny, sexy and puts a completely new twist on the whole zombie mythos. My main complaint is the place it ended. That was cruel Z
This was....different! Zombies who don't go mindless for brains, but who survive by drinking other men's spunk. I think it would have been more sensible if they had been vampires, not zombies, because nothing about them resembled anything zombie I've ever seen.
I'm kind of intrigued enough to want to know what happens to Ulrich and Alex, but I dunno if I'll bother.
Also, this is tagged BDSM, and lots of stuff happens, but it's watching other people, and not the MCs participating themselves, so I don't know if it counts.
Before you start reading this book forget everything about zombies you think you know. These Zombies are totally different. No Walking Deads here. And after I was over this I really enjoyed the story and this new Zombie concept. :-)
4.5 rounded up to 5. This is my first time ever reading an m/m zombie book and honestly it helped because her zombies are different. Very clever on how zombies are in this book. It was really good.
Kai, a young German man on the cusp of his 19th birthday is mysteriously taken to America by 2 men. It's here he learns some pretty wild and uncomfortable truths, although he takes the news remarkably well. I felt there was good world building in this erotic tale of new beginnings, acceptance, hope and finding the one for you.
Interesting concept. I feel so bad for the zombies that haven’t found their mates and are still waiting and I couldn’t help but feel they aren’t enjoying their lives.
Jasper and Kai are adorable, I’m not sure how Jasper thought he was going to figure out who his mate was without sucking anyone but at least he finally took the plunge in some way with Kai. Their dancing around each other was cute basically they were confused by their feelings but after while the sexual tension breaks way enough for them to figure out what they are to each other.
I am interested in trying the other books in the series too and hopefully seeing many of the side characters find their mates, I can’t wait to see what Ulrich gets up to.
I received an ARC of this book and am giving an honest review.
This book was great. It was hot and fun. There was a lot of sex, but it fits with the story. If grammar and editing are a thing for you, then I don't recommend this book, but if you can look past that and enjoy a fun kinky book, then go for it.
Zombies Ahead is the first book in the ‘Club Zombie’ series. It stars Kai Bauer, who is turning into a zombie, and Jasper, a zombie. This is told in third person from Kai and Jasper’s pov.
FYI-I counted over 220 pgs so if you're looking for something short and entertaining, this is not it. At least by my count. My three stars is generous, really more 2.5. The premise was fun but what should have been a smoking hot look into Zombie life just wasn't. It kind of dragged and felt off. The use of full words instead of contractions made the flow all wrong IMO. Using "did not" instead of didn't when using a character's voice. It was just off. A waste of time? Meh, not really but I wouldn't run out and buy a copy.
I thought the premise of this was hilarious, zombies who don't eat brains, but still need something from... heads. I thought it was just so fun.
Kai and Jasper are sweet and lovely, and I love watching Kai figuring out who he is and what he wants out of life. Jaz is just so patient with Kai and just so very zen. I love that about him. He's exactly what Kai needs.
I'm loving Ulrich, and I can't wait to see what happens with him, as well as what happens when Alex.
Oh how I loved this first book in a new series by one of favourite authors.
This is an entirely new take on Zombies....they do not want to suck your brains out. Has the kind of insta-love looking for a mate that I love plus lots of gorgeous young men and hot sex!! Cant wait for the next one :-)
If you’re looking for a story with, IMO no angst, then look no further. I have to say that I enjoyed the authors take on being a zombie. I just wish their was a bit more world development/backstory. Other than that, it was a quick and fun read :)
A seriously sexy twist on zombies made this an extremely interesting story to dive into. I wish so hard that I loved it. There was very little character depth and the story was so focused on all the sex around the MC's that we got extremely little of their own relationship development and intimacy. When they did get around to bonding it was so underwhelming that I almost wish I DNF'ed this book. So seriously sad because I was set to enjoy the story based on the sexy premise.
Kai, a hick from the German sticks, is whisked away to a completely foreign world, in more ways than one. I could appreciate his personal journey into finding out what he likes, who he likes, and what the zombie world is all about. But while I was expecting characters evolving, I got a whole lot of voyeurism and sex by everyone but Kai and the man he's drawn to more than anyone else and it left me with a sour feeling. I'm certainly not a prude, but I was appalled by what I was witnessing through Kai's "education".
Jasper was so tame and hands-off that I just didn't care about him at all. There was so much potential for him and we got so little that I didn't even really know why I bothered being interested in the first place. I understand that he was pretty set in his disappointment over not having a mate, but after counseling others you'd think he'd be a tiny bit more aware of the reactions he was having to Kai and would be more interested in learning about him, getting closer to him to find out if what he's drawn to is a mate bond in Kai and not just a nice-looking young man, and more annoyed by the offers and advances of fellow zombies. We got so little that it might as well have been nothing at all.
Their connection was too little, too late for me and while I'm a fan of the double-innocents thing, there was so little to recommend them as a couple that I just didn't care. The "seer" bit with Kai's cousin, the creating a connection and building a mate bond between Kai and Jasper, Kai learning to accept his sexuality...there were a lot of things that could have been developed and yet we were just given a very erotic view into a zombie brothel. I didn't hate the story, but I definitely didn't enjoy it either.
2.5 stars. Honestly there isn't a lot of development in this book either world building, character or plot. In fact, I'm not sure I even really understand the whole concept of how and why some people become zombies. Also the zombies in this world aren't really that different from everyone else except they are all gay, all men, live long lives and have to ingest semen on a regular basis.
There isn't a lot of story to this book. Kai is "sold" to two American men and taken to a place where zombies live. He seems to take to being a zombie really easily and accepts it just fine. In fact, he has more of an issue with them saying all zombies are gay because all though he has sometimes fantasized about other men he swears he isn't gay. He is roommates with an ex-priest zombie who doesn't participate in all the casual sex at the zombie manor. It's obvious these two are mates but while the reader is waiting for them to figure it out we read about lots of other zombies and mated couples having sex (mostly at Club Zombie). Club Zombie is a club where the zombies go to ingest semen and have sex. The club has lots of different rooms for several different kinks. This book is full of lots of sex but it it's actually well written and entertaining.
Obviously this book doesn't take itself to seriously and lots of future mates are introduced in the book. Although I found it somewhat entertaining I can't see myself continuing with the series.
Note: An ARC was provided by the author via LesCourt ARC Team.
I felt that this was a good beginning to the series, and since I never got to read the original edition of this book, I have no clue if any changes were made to it. Kai is pretty much a clueless teenager thrown into a whole new world with Jasper and several other zombies--whom I suspect will be getting their own stories told as the series moves forward--as his sources of information. Along with trying to understand that he's actually a zombie and what that all entails, Kai also has to deal with his confusing sexuality because even as the "clues" point to him being gay, as far as he's concerned, he's straight. I liked the connection that Kai and Jasper shared, although theirs was more of a slow-burn romance even as a number of the others had no qualms engaging in public displays of sex and affection. Both main characters are easy to like, and then there are a couple of supporting characters who've already captured my attention--i.e. Ulrich (Kai's sixteen-year-old cousin with the zombie gene), Cassidy (a zombie who appears to be gender fluid), and Alex (a shy zombie). Zombies Ahead garners four stars and I look forward to more. ♥
This is a really entertaining MM zombie story with just a touch of sexual insecurity. I particularly enjoyed the MM romantic approach this author has taken instead of writing the normal bloodthirsty zombie stories. I found the plot light-hearted, well-written & unique. The characters are interesting & well-developed, there is good support from the secondary characters. There is: an shy apparently straight young man (Kai Bouer) who is rescued from a good-for-nothing abusive uncle (Franz) by two zombie men (Beau Renou & Lafayette) & taken to a place called “Club Zombie” where Kai come into contact with a ex-priest (Jasper) who mentors him but then the attractions flare, Kai’s cousin (Ulrich), humor, some twists, intrigue, family issues, manipulations, threats, memories, insecurities, discovery, explanations, disbelief, unease, memories, loneliness, confusion, hope, attractions, some BDSM, dreams, fantasies, longings, desire, steamy scenes, mates, happiness & a satisfying conclusion although there is a tiny cliffhanger to do with Ulrich. I look forward to future books from this author with great anticipation.

I love the premise for Zombies Ahead, it's unique and interesting. There were some inconsistencies, but I still didn't feel that it slowed down the pace of the book. There's more kink and exhibitionism than one might expect -- take heed. I enjoyed it, but just be aware that it's there if that's an issue for you.
I know this is a re-release, but the book feels unpolished. I want to know more about the characters. It doesn't feel like Kai has a lot in common with Jasper beyond their country of origin and a strict upbringing. Maybe if Kai had shown some interest in joining the Renaissance games, or actively participated in Jasper's play group. At times, I felt like I was getting more detailed information about background characters than the main couple. With a bit more interaction from the main couple and some light polishing, I can easily see this jumping to five stars.
This was a quick, sweet, unique take on zombies. Kai is basically kidnapped from his home in Germany. He lives with his not very nice uncle and younger cousin Ulrich. He comes to America and lives on an estate after learning that zombies exist and he's one. He also learns of the very unique way in which they feed and how that plays an important role in finding your mate. He's partnered with an older zombie named Jasper who was a priest in his past life and is also a fellow countrymen. Kai is only nineteen and has repressed any sexuality because he feared his uncle's reaction. Jasper was young in a different era and as a result, never explored his sexuality either. Together, these sweet men come to the realization they are mates. Ulirch has a spot of trouble and is brought to America to be reunited with Kai, which sets up the next story. I'm actually very intrigued by this series and am extremely excited to continue it.
The movies got it so very wrong because these guys are young, hot, gay and fabulous.
When 19, certain DNA tags start to transition turning young men into zombies. When Kai is plucked from tending his uncle’s vineyard, he’s very confused especially when he is told that he’s becoming a zombie and he will live forever, but only if he drinks..... his medicine, oh he has four years to find his mate or things will become sad and lonely.
This is a fun read turning the idea of zombies on its head with no gore, blood or brain eating, this is not a serious book and in fact it doesn’t pretend to be either, it skates over what is some heavier subjects such as internalised homophobia, abuse and slavery, I think that this is pure entertainment and I enjoyed it and would read more.
