PrettyTOUGH serves up another ace! Maggie Anderson and her twin sister, Bella, are a doubles team destined for tennis greatness. They've just started their freshman year at Beachwood Academy and it seems like everything—even the Olympics!—is within their sights. But when Maggie quits the tennis team suddenly, she leaves Bella in the lurch.
Nicole Leigh Shepherd is the Pretty Tough Series pseudonym for both Liz Tigelaar (Pretty Tough and Playing with the Boys) and Keri Mikulski (Head Games, Stealing Bases, Making Waves, and Fifteen Love).
I thought the author explored reasons for and against choosing to engage in sports among youths fairly well. The plot was believable too and true to real life. I liked the dynamism between the twins. While some may not find this book very imaginative I liked it very much if only because it's about girls and their love for sports. That alone already warranted three stars minimum for me. The fourth star is for the complexity which underscored Maggie's revulsion yet love for tennis and how she overcame her inner turmoil.
