FIRST ROC PRINTING. May 1990 MASS MARKET PAPERBACK, Janet Asimov. Each month the members of an exclusive club get together in the heart of Manhattan to trade some very unusual tales. The club is Pshrinks Anonymous, where psychiatrists of every school analyze their most interesting patients --and some cases that are truly out of this world. So take your seat as a guest of Pshrinks Anonymous, where you'll hear such weird and wild tales as the story of an artist possessed by a Martian obsessed with the many shades of green; the case of a man convinced he's found the means to open a portal to Elfland; the experiences of a woman whose hot flashes could conquer the barrier of time; the discovery of a cosmic allergy that could prove the finish of the universe itself....-
Also known as: Janet Jeppson Asimov, Janet O. Jeppson, Janet Asimov, who originally wrote as J.O. Jeppson, is an accomplished novelist and short-story writer who sometimes worked in collaboration with her husband, the late Isaac Asimov. Among the Asimovs' joint ventures as writers is the series of juvenile novels involving an endearing robot, Norby, and his young owner, Jeff Wells.
A fun little book of short stories. The unifying theme is a group of psychiatrists who meet for lunch regularly in a Manhattan hotel. Each story is a particular patient/case related by one of the group. After a few of the stories you get the hang of the group and the group dynamics. All of the cases involve some kind of science fiction twist, although it is never clear what is real and what is imagined. I was not impressed after the first couple, but grew to enjoy them. Dr. Jeppson (noted by her married name of Janet Asimov on my copy) is a psychiatrist, as well as a science fiction writer. The ideas presented in these stories were fun to contemplate and play with.
