DREAMS OFTEN DIE IN THE PROJECTS In the first book of a drama-drenched new series, four unforgettable women will do anything to escape the hood. From their front stoops at Bentley Manor, longtime residents Miz Osceola and Miz Cleo have seen just about everything and know all too well that there's no happily-ever-after in the projects. There's only the desperate need to get out by any means possible. Aisha has what every other ghetto girl envies: a loving man who supplies her with all the fashion, money, and accessories that scream ""hood success."" Now that her husband's in jail, Aisha may have to put something more precious than her designer gear up for sale in order to maintain her image. The cost may be too high even for her expensive tastes. Devani knows she's found her way out of the hood when she sleeps with Tyrik, a star pro athlete. When Tyrik's calls get further and further apart, Devani's mother suggests the perfect scheme: become his baby momma. Will Devani's plans force her man to commit, or backfire with the worst of consequences? Molly is so in love with her husband, Junior, that she doesn't care if she's the only white girl in the hood. Blinded by her love, Molly lets everyone walk all over her. But Junior may cross the line, forcing Molly to give back all the abuse she's taken. Lexi has five children - and four broke baby daddies. Now she is married to Luther, Mr. Right in every way but in the bedroom. Determined to finally provide a good man for her kids, Lexi must struggle to fight her cravings for sex with her ex. Will she stay faithful to her husband or give in to a passion that may very well prove deadly?

This book was sinfully delicious! The four characters, Devani, Lexi, Molly and Aisha gives readers a peek into their worlds in Bentley Manor, the projects. Aisha is married to a drug dealer thats doing time in prison, Devani has her eyes and heart set on a NFL player hoping and praying he's her meal ticket out of the projects, Lexi has five kids and four baby daddies, but is happily married to a man who is not the father of any of her kids and then there's Molly...the white girl who left her family to be with a man name Junior and to live in the proects as his wife.
I couldnt turn the pages fast enough with this book. I would put the book down and then pick it right back up. You know how you read a book and its sooo good you wanna save some for later? Well, thats how it was with this book!
I LOVED IT!!!! I could have read it one day, but I kept saving some for later. HIGHLY recommended!!!
BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! Know what that was??? That was Five Stars, Baby. Flyin Atcha. Woo, these chicks can write. The interwoven storylines never disappointed. Aisha and Lexi had the most distinctive voices, but by the end of the book all the characters came alive for me. The only drawback??? There was one character I wished had a happier ending. She really deserved it. Shameless Hoodwives? Here I come.
This book was wild but I definitely enjoyed it! Very entertaining. Was a quick and easy read, clear to follow and switched up between the narrative of four different women all living in the same apartment complex with lots of sex, drama and crime. Very happy with how it ended and will be reading more by these authors in the future.
Aisha, Devani, Lexi and Molly have a few things in common. Mainly, they each hate Bentley Manor, the run down projects they reside in.
Aisha, unlike the other women, has the money to get out of the hood, but her man does his work illegally so she has to wait for him to not only acquire something legit, but also serve his time. While she’s being diligent and being by her man’s side, money isn’t coming in like it once was and Aisha’s forced to make decisions on her own. Not ready to falter on her expensive taste, Aisha decides that she knows something that just may be profitable enough to keep her afloat. Will her excessive spending get her in trouble?
Devani is certain that she’s finally figured out a way to get out of the hood. Tyrik, a handsomely paid football player, is just the right connection she’s in need of. Unfortunately, Tyrik isn’t thinking long-term in regards to Devani and with the help of her mother, operation get that man is now in full effect. Willing to go that extra yard, Devani is caught with a pass interference. Has she ruined her chances at being drafted?
Lexi has five children by four of the most trifling men around. While she’s made her bed hard, she’s set on building a better home for her kids with her husband, Luther. He works hard, treats her and the kids good and even though he doesn’t win any awards in the bedroom, it’s the real thing this time. Unfortunately Junior, her oldest kids’ father, lives across the yard, and is always volunteering to help her out in the bedroom. Can Lexi remember that love outweighs all of the pain and heartaches?
Molly is white, comes from a well off family and could leave if she stopped being so stubborn and admitted that her father was right! However, Molly is deeply in love and unwilling to see what everyone else can about her husband, Junior. Sure he may not be much now, but she believes in him and their future. After being in the mist of so much ridicule, has Molly come to her senses?
Murders, attacks, prostitution, drugs, adultery, sex, violence and AIDS, I have to also agree DESPERATE HOODWIVES would definitely overrun DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES any day of the week.
This book makes a person, especially a feamle think about a lot of self determination. It is a good thing that these females have to will power to get out of the hood, but it is the independants that matter. I think thier dependancy, or "plan" for getting out by latching on to a man is not really a good thing. Like the fact that the a mother with 5 children cant depend on anyone of her children's fathers is bad. But if a female is really determined, she can do it on her own. I have heard often about the females who try to get pregnant by someone famous in order to get child support, but either way, I will feel sorry for someone who doesnt even try to stand on their own, finding the easy way out and latching on to someone and sometimes dragging them down too.
This book is labeled as a sexy urban tale written by two authors under pen names (pseudonyms). If you are into erotica, vulgar language, and no real plot just sex and cheating throughout the story, this book may be for you. It also felt like the same vibe just different characters names--married woman, cheating husband, and gay relations of men that leads to infecting their lovers with HIV. Same old story with nothing for me to latch to! I will try to read "Shameless Hoodwives", hope no more jive-talking and sex scenes to be the only make-up of the novel.
This book kept me on my toes the whole time and i enjoyed reading this book . The ending with Lexi, luther, and Junior I didn't expect and was super shocked to see that Happen, she was actually the one I expected a happy ending with and Sad but true things like that are happening around the world ! I really despised Junior so everything that happened to him was for a reason he was a snake and deserved it, I felt sorry for Molly she was just blind in Love. Aisha , I had a little hope for but you expect consequences like that when you make rash choices like that ! and as far a Devani, Poor Baby you let your mama write a check for you that you can't cash .
These people were a whole ass disaster and I can’t even be mad at how everyone story played out. Selling ya self for designer clothes, tricking a man into marrying you instead of working on your own to improve your situation, and staying with a clear POS just bc of love smh. Nobody was meant to leave happily ever after fr.
I didnt think I would be able to read this book. I dont like reading different characters stories through out a book but each persons story was a page turner.
One thing , this book purpose is to show you living in the hood is not the way to go atleast living there. There was no likable characters for me. I skipped past Molly parts..... quick read dramatic in most parts and no common sense in the rest.
I am surprised how big of a chokehold the stories these women told had on me. Not my typical read, but a recommend. All I'm saying is I finished it in a few hours!!
this book is right here have you never wanted to live in an apartment building ever, the tea in this book is real, ladies watch who you keep around your man.
This book had me gone. I love it & it taught you a lot about life . The goods & the bads of it... Mainly the bads .
Molly: I loved her ! She was one of my favorite characters... She showed love to a black man losing everything and everyone in her life . Junior is his name.. Her family is even disowning her for this love. It's crazy .. And she is so blind to his wrong doings but everyone else see its & tries to forewarn her but she doesn't listen . It's eerie to her. Junior has her so whipped it's not funny. The fact of him knowing that doesn't help any either he has mind control over him & in the end she finds out the hard way when she get diagnosed with HIV and her life is officially over ... She is slowly dying because of a man she gave up everything for & she ended up killing him and going to prison .
Lexi: she is what I would consider a hood rat . She has 5 kids , 4 different baby daddies... She has had multiple failed relationships with the fathers of her children & some how she got Luther. Luther treated her SOO good and took care of all the other responsibilities that no one else wanted to ... And i loved and adored dude for that. Lexi had a hard time with it sometimes , especially since he couldn't please her all the way in some aspects... But I can tell you out of all the hoes in this book Molly & Lexi kept their shit together .. They never Cheated or did anything corrupted towards their marriage and I loved that about them . In the end the truth does come out . Luther is GAYYY & who Is he fucking ? Junior ! And he is a bottom bitch at that, all these ken that constantly come in and out her children's life ... She should just focus on being a part and say fuck love for the time being because it doesn't seem to be working out for her at all .
Devani // she was a hoodrat also , who was trying to smooch off other mfs to make it out the hood. Tyriek is her boyfriend who is in the nfl . How she met him I'll never know.. But how she didn't keep him is an easy go answer. The thing with this girl was she felt like her Pussy was the golden profit out of the ghetto and in reality it wasn't. Her loyalty was the main thing that could've got her out but she failed miserably with that. She tried to trap tyriek by getting pregnant by him, another major fail. She ended up fucking junior multiple times & thinking it was all going to be on the sly in the end and getting a ring . That wasn't the case & Devani felt like if and use her pussy and ass she would make it & she didn't . She thought with tyriek cashing out on her that he was going to take her with him and that wasn't the case and when she found that out she tried to run away .., she ended up shot & dead & tyriek ended up in jail .
Last but not least.
AISHA: She is the one that disgusted me the most ., the one that always turned her nose up at everyone. She was married to maleek living the life but when he got locked up everything went backwards and down . It was like she was still spending and there was no new money coming in. Then there was kaseem what pissed me off about that situation was kaseem was the one that started all the shit & he was always trying to holla and get on Aisha , throwing her money and all that. Aisha ended up having a hard time getting money and she didn't and to do a 9 to 5 she wanted the shit easy and that's where her big mistakes came into play aside from losing maleek for them. She ended up getting into her own escorting business and things were good at first ... But of course they change ... She ended up meeting a man that became obsessed with her And it got worse from there... She ended up getting cut severely but that didn't stop her move it safe to say that .
It's crazy that all of it happened . But Bentley manor can take you Down ! Can't wait to read the next one ,
My Spring Brake Read. (April 15 and Finished April 17)
Overall book was great. Wished it was lots more drama in it like Shameless Hoodwives and Hood Life. But, have to admit I still kept turning the pages.
Aisha was a miss know it all thinking she better then everyone around her because of the money, clothes and her man. But, he ends up locked up and she had to fiend for herself to be able to keep living the life she only knew how but, al the end everything exploses in her face. Her pass comes and hunts her.
Devani whats it all and in order to get it all she wants to keep her man Tyrik that is on his way to the NFL. But, in order to get Tyrik or at least she thought was to get pregnant and have his baby so he can make her his wife. But, Tyrik wasn't going to have that at all. Not no project chick.
Molly is the one person that stands out the most being that she the only white girl living in Bently Manor. But, that is the only thing that makes her stitck out she also married to Junior who is well known to sleeping with everything one in the projects. But, at the end it all comes out and she lets Junior have it.
Lexi has 5 kids and they dads not in the picture but, Luther steps up to the plate and take care of Lexi and her 5 kids as his own. Lexi loves her husband but, he is very weak win the bedroom and she find herself at times wanting to have sext with her 2 older kids dad Junior but, she stops herslef for the slake of her marriage. But, Luther has a secreat of his own that will blow Lexi's mind.
Devani lives in Bentley manor with her mama. Current dating a nfl player. She just found out he got traded and is going to be leaving and she comes up with a plan to make him take her with him......get pregnant..:.which she does. But is it his? One quick screw with his man whore cousin and a broken condom might make it his. Aisha met a big time drug dealer married him and they try to be on low so they live in Bentley manor too. But he got busted and is locked up waiting for trial looking at 10 years. He done had her use all their money on a lawyer she had to turn to tricking to keep up what she was used to. Lexi has five kids by 4 guys. She's married now with a good guy who's trying to get them out the ghetto of Bentley manor. Her two oldest are by the man whore that is junior who devani slept with as well and Lexi comes home to find him having sex with her husband. Se kicks hem both out and is trying to work through that. Molly is the white girl that junior decided to marry but in doing so she lost her parents. But when she seeks out fertility treatment cause she can't get pregnant she discovers she has aids and she finally sees all the rumors about junior were true. She goes home to pack all her stuff and sees junior as she's leaving all up on some other girl so she shoots him to death. Devani all star boyfriend had her shot and killed as well cause he wasn't taken care of no baby. Ashia tricked with a psycho who stalked her and slashed up her face when she was moving out her appointment. The ghetto is never boring.
They're the residents of Bentley Manor...Aisha Cummings, wife of a big time drug dealer awaiting trial, searching for a way to continue supporting her fabulous lifestyle...Devani Rodgers, a dime piece hoping that an unplanned (and unwanted) pregnancy by her pro-athlete boyfriend will be her one-way ticket out of the hood...Lexi Mitchell was a victim of good sex, five children and four babies' daddies later she's found a husband; good sex is now a thing of the past...Molly Jefferson, the only white resident, left the comfort (and money) of home for Junior, her no good husband...They're young and hopeful that one day they'll leave Bentley Manor behind.
"Desperate Hoodwives" is good to the last drop, chock-full of drama and unexpected twists. Bentley Manor is as much a character as its residents. Meesha Mink and De'nesha Diamond give readers a wickedly good read in this hood tale of love, sex, greed, betrayal and even murder. "Desperate Hoodwives" is an irresistible read.
I learned that u cant really trust men and just trust everyone one you see just because they give u the time of day i learned hat if u got 4 kids and all the baby daddys failed it s time to give it up and just be friends and i aalso learned thet men aint always what they appear to be everyone has secrets and junior happen to actually wanna stick his thing in to anything and Luther just been there to catch him in his horny rude but i think thats really fucked up that junior had to go for his ex- husband i mean havent she had her heart broken enough
I thought I would try out a little urban romance. This book did ok until it got to the end and it totally fell apart. I am not sure the writing was great or anything like that but it kept me involved. It had a pretty good amount of sex and the dialect was good. The end however was ridiculous. All the desperate hoodwives came to different bad endings. I think the author may have been trying to preach on the dangers of fast living but it didn't come across to well.
This book was about desperate females depending on men to get them out of the hood. This book tells about four young girl wanting to get out of the hood. The story is told by to older ladies who were told the same thing as these young girls. Aisha is a young girl who thinks she has it all when she married her thug that is until he got locked up leaving her with little funds and a promise. Aisha used to this custom lifestyle not knowing what they have in store for him
Life in Bentley Manor is a family affair in the hood. Relationships as well as a friendship are pushed to the limit every single second of the day. That's the life for Lexi, Molly, Aisha and Devani, along with the front porch queens, Mz. Cleo and Mz. Osceola, respectively. Oh Lord, please help Smokey, Luther and Jr living dat life! It's a sad one with more than a few unhappy endings.
*****The Scarlet Letter DFWM....The characters really compliment each other and each are unique and bring their own personalities to the story. I actually grinned, laughed out loud because I felt a part of the story - truly an amazing feeling to be so immersed like this, and I enjoyed every minute of it!
Read it years ago and it’s still just as good if not better!
This series will pull you in and teach you something without you even knowing. It’s better than some reality tv show or falsified drama. These are real life experiences, and having the opportunity to see these characters through will enlighten your own life. Can’t wait to pick up the next book!
WOW! Really that one word describes this book. There were laugh out loud parts of this book and just plain jaw dropping parts. It took less than 2 days to read because I just couldn't put it down. I had to know what was going to happen next.
I finished this book and like everyone said, it was a page turner. I thought it was pretty decent. I expected it to be better because of the rave reviews. I will be reading "Shameless Hoodwives" when that comes out. I am also willing to sell this book.
Definitely a great start to this series. I was hooked from the beginning. I was planning on reading something else in between this and Shameless but once I got to the end of this I knew I couldn't. Definitely two great authiors!
At first I was disappointed because I thought it would be a "hood" book. The only thing hood about this book is where the main characters live. However,it was some crazy stuff happening in this book. What really got me was the end. This book proves that men are the root of all EVIL!!! lol
