Le Loup #1

Le loup qui voulait changer de couleur

Rate this book

il martedì si veste di rosso, ma sembra Babbo Natale e a lui non piace nemmeno il Natale;
(NO, non dico nulla!)

,eccome!

Could have been a cute story except for the pages where he gets roses and covers himself in petals and says Yuck now I look like a princess. Way to reinforce gender stereotypes and toxic masculinity. Heaven forbid a guy look like a princess.

I was just about to give up on this French original translated into English Series but this one wasn't bad at all! I love the art work, (textures and color is my thing!) and the colors thing was interesting. In the End, of course it is teaching to be happy the color you are !

Labai keista knyga su labai keistom žinutėm...

1. Neaiški pagrindinė istorijos žinutė. Vilkas pradžioje NEnorėjo NEbūti vilku, jam tiesiog nepatiko juoda spalva. O gale jis nusprendžia "geriau jau liksiu vilkas". ???

Visą dieną jos be perstojo sukinėjosi aplink, murmėdamos vilkui į ausį: "O, vilke, tu tikras gražuolis!" Vargšas įvairiaspalvis vilkas visai nebeturėjo ramybės! "Ne, ne, tik ne tai!"
Ką iš šio epizodo turėtų "išsinešti" berniukai? Jeigu nori patikti mergaitėms, reikia tiesiog pasipuošti??? O ką turėtų "išsinešti" mergaitės???...

This book could have been a great way for kids to learn the different days of the week and some colors, but there were too many wrong messages in the books to even consider recommending it.

The day the wolf decides to wear pink, he looks at himself in the mirror and realizes with utter disgust that he looks like a princess. This is unacceptable! It is saying that looking like a women is ugly and horrible! Then, the next day, he covered himself in brown mud and hates looking all brown. Finally, he decides to hurt a peacock by removing all of his features to look handsome. And then something really weird happens... There are so many female wolves walking around him -because of how beautiful he has become- that he decides to finally accept his natural color.

What is even this book? So many toxic gender stereotypes and wrong ways to teach kids to love themselves the way they are.

Hilarious! Wolf isn't happy with how he looks so he goes through almost all the colors trying to find his new color. All the story is funny but the illustrations with the peacock makes the book for me! Please pick this book up for any child who isn't happy with their looks and most definitely for learning colors.

0 stars, I hated it. The author/illustrator pair chose to represent the color brown as mud that stinks and is itchy and as a color only flies and pigs could tolerate being. Books like this are harmful to diversity and representation. Even though it's meant to be just a silly book about learning to love your own color, it reinforces insidious misconceptions that being the color brown is ugly.

This book is perfect for my bilingual storytime. It is full of vibrant colors that we could talk about in Spanish and, along with other books, use repetition to enforce the color words. It was a cute story, too, with a nice moral at the end!
