Clay Preston is the most desirable guy in school, and boy does he know it!
Movie star looks paired with a quarterback’s body, he’s every girl’s dream guy–but not mine. To me, he’s simply my best friend, the one who has been there as far back as I can remember.
Our relationship has always been easy, playful and affectionate, but after one lost bet, and one payment in the form of a kiss, the dynamic of everything changes…
Note: Always You is book one in the Best Friend series; however, it is a standalone novel with a complete ending.
I am a traditionally published and Indie author that hails from sunny England (I lie, it's not really that sunny here!) I'm a hopeless romantic, so of course my main writing focus is romance. I love to create swoon-worthy males that steal your breath! I write mature YA, new adult and contemporary romance novels.
As well as being a writer I'm also an avid reader, mum to one little boy, proud chocoholic and an absolute beast at Lego PlayStation games.
If I had to sum myself up in one word, it would probably be 'daydreamer' - but unlike most of my school teachers, I don't necessarily view that as a bad thing. After all, I read somewhere once that books are like waking dreams...
I DON’T UNDERSTAND. You are a British author. You write with British vernacular. You live in Norfolk. You clearly don’t have a whole lot of experience with American slang, laws, etc. Why, oh why, did you need to set your book in America, not somewhere that you know? First of all, half the stuff you have these kids saying is so wrong: No 18 year old American asks for a “proper kiss.” They don’t go to “amusement arcades” and less than 1% of the American population has a room in their house called a “lounge”.
Have you been to Las Vegas before? Or hotels in general? Sheets are not red. (Yes, a nitpick) They’re white. So that all of the nasty bodily fluid that makes its way onto those sheets can be bleached off and stay in Vegas. Not to mention, anyone winning $172k in Vegas would have some serious paperwork to be filling out, which likely would have resulted in some police involvement, since those fake ID’s (also, not sure if it’s the generational gap, but modern fake ID’s in the US are pretty difficult to obtain without a serious amount of cash!) wouldn’t have supporting tax ID documentation, etc. Don’t think that casino would let them walk out the door with that much cash. I think there was an episode of Full House about that…
Couple of laws to get familiar with… police departments don’t issue restraining orders – courts do. And you aren’t required to have just any old adult (ie: your 18 y.o. neighbor) present for police questioning… You’re required your specific adult. You know, the one legally responsible for you. And speaking of responsible adults… Where were they? Or even a moderately normal one who might have serious second thoughts about some of the things going on in this book.
I guess I’m getting cynical in my old age… I just expect more of a book that people rate so highly?
this is my first review, usually I wont bother writing reviews but I just need to rant about this book.
Okay, so I finished the book, I have to finish it, I could not not finish it. You all might think 'oh, so you like the book?' no. No is the answer.
I love the idea of the story, how bestfriend fell in love and end up together. But this particular book annoys me to no end. Why? 1. That first day when she arrived in school, heard clay called her name and she fropped her bag and ran to him and wrap her leg around him? No. 2. The Blake story? Super no. At the beginning, I was like oh, okay, a guy likes her yada yada, but then the part when Blake started going mental? No. 3. She told Blake to not cheat, but what did she do? Exactly. No. 4. I have some other reasons but I don't want to spoil the story too much. But, I do have one more problem, it's too long with a lot of non-sense. Yes, I actually finished the book, I don't know why, but I did.
Again, I like the idea of the story, but make it a bit more realistic and less stupidity.
I didn't want to have to do this. I don't like leaving bad reviews but I have to get this out.
It was only through sheer will, strength and determination that I managed to get through most of this book. Not all of it. Never all. I couldn't take it anymore.
Let me start off by saying how I absolutely loved how every female in the story besides 'Riley bear' was a slut. I just love it when authors make every other girl in their story stupid, horrible, promiscuous skanks with little personality just to boost the appearances of the female protagonist. Like really? You have to tear down every other female just to make 'Riley bear' seem like the only sweet, innocent non-sluttish girl in her school?
And Riley bear...? The name says it all. *gags*
I don't know about you guys but I think that Riley was the biggest, nastiest and most hypocritical girl in the story. She was also the dumbest too. A total airhead. Being inside of her head was like listening to a eight year old complain and whine about everything. What a dunce!
But you know what really pissed me off with her? Enough for me to stop reading for a week to cleanse my mind of Riley and her stupidity?
When Blake wanted to be with her and she said that he'd have to accept her relationship with Clay.
Well excuse the fuck out of me. I wouldn't have minded if her relationship with Clay didn't include exchanging hickies, sleeping together half naked and jumping and wrapping her legs around him in public. Seriously? No man wants their woman doing these things with another man even if that other man happens to be her best friend. Just no. There's a limit. It's completely disrespectful. No one should have to put up with shit like that. Not even a psycho like Blake.
I mean I can totally see it. Just imagine Blake and Riley gets together. Now, one day Blake decides to visit her and meets her in bed wrapped up in Clay's arm, legs entwined and they're busy sucking at each others necks. And of course their both half naked - let's not forget that part. So what does Blake do? Nothing of course. Because it's normal. Duh! That's what best friends do. They snuggle in bed half naked and give each other hickies. Yeah. Totally.
And Riley's parents - they weren't parents. They were just two irresponsible adults living with a stupid teenage girl. Nuff said.
I don't have anything bad to say about Clay. He didn't really do anything wrong. He was perfect. But maybe that's the problem. Why was he so perfect? No one is perfect. The guy was freaking gold. It was irritating. He was so sickly sweet and sappy I could vomit.
And this whole Vegas situation. Don't make me laugh. I'm not even going to touch on that area because - wait, scratch that. I'm gonna mildly scrape the area. The two irresponsible adults living with Riley bear allowed her to go to Vegas with the guy that sleeps with her half naked every night in her bed. Ok. Fine. I wasn't surprised. It's not like they were real parents anyways. Like I said before. They just lived with Riley.
Can you believe that these kids walked out of a goddamn casino with $172,000? Cold hard cash in their pockets! No damn paperwork! Not to mention they had fake ID's. No. It's not that easy. That shit doesn't fly.
But apparently, Clay does. Yes. You know what I'm talking about. Clay flies. And so does everyone else in the story, but I'm gonna focus on Clay because he seems to be the main flyer. Yes. He can fly. It's hinted at so many times in the story. I have solid proof. Let me drop a few lines if you doubt me.
“He sighed. His beautiful, dark green eyes were sparkling with excitement. “I missed you too, Riley Bear. I didn’t think you’d be here today, you only got back last night, right?” he chirped."
"Happy Birthday, Riley Bear,” he chirped in my ear.”
“Hey,” Clay chirped as I climbed into his car in the morning.”
“Hey, beautiful girl!” he chirped as he got up to me and wrapped his arms tight around my waist.”
So what I gathered from reading is that birds chirps and so does Clay, therefore he is a bird too. Birds fly and Clay is a bird, therefore Clay can fly too. It's so simple. Clay is a bird. And Riley is a bear. I was trying so hard to figure out what was so off in this book and I finally did. Riley and Clay are both animals. This explains everything that is so wrong with this book. I can't believe I'm only making this connection now. Silly me. O.o
I only gave this book one star because me and my boyfriend bonded over it. Together we shared long moments of laughter and amusement. My boyfriend's not much of a reader but when I read him a few passages from this book he flipped the fuck out. He nearly killed himself laughing.
But on a serious note...
Will I ever finish this book? No. I won't. I can't. I refuse to. Never again will I put myself through such torturous writing. But hey, if you love stories with chirping humans, this here is for you.
I can't believe I did it. I read another book by Kirsty Moseley and... It was worse than the first one.
You would think that after my encounter with The Boy Who Sneaks in My Bedroom Window I wouldn't touch another Moseley book with a ten foot pole and you would be right. But this time I don't know what in the world possesed me to read this.
I'll let the book speak for itself:
“Oh God, I feel sick. I can’t believe I have to go to this stupid school! I only got back from my months’ vacation last night, and the following day I have to start a new school? This really sucks!”
Yes, this is really the first paragraph of the book.
“Almost immediately everyone stopped talking and looked at me. It felt was like one of those movies where the new girl steps out and everyone stops what they’re doing so they can analyse everything about her and see where she fits in the social hierarchy of the school.”
You don't say....
“letting the nerves show on my face. As if on cue the boys started to whistle and shout cat calls at me and the girls stared at me with a mixture of jealousy and hatred. Looks like I wasn’t going to fit in here very well after all….”
“I should have gotten used to it by now. I probably saw him with a different girl draped all over him every week. How he’d not caught Mono from all the kissing I’ve witnessed over the last couple of years, I don’t know.”
Someone didn't go to health class.
“So, why do you think Clay forgot to mention you were a little hottie?” he asked with a smile.
I shrugged. In my opinion I wasn’t exactly a ‘hottie’, I was just average. Like every girl, I had my flaws and insecurities”
You're so modest.
“know everyone’s staring at me already, so why not give them a show? I stopped and pushed him against the lockers roughly, stepping right up to him, pressing my whole body against him, our faces inches apart. I put my hands on his thighs and dragged them up slowly, teasingly, across his hips, up his stomach to his chest.”
*cough* slut *cough*
“Hi,” chirped a girl beside me. I lifted my head to look at her. She was pretty in a ‘not in your face’ kind of way”
What does that even mean?
“Clay wasn’t just hot, he looked like a God he was so beautiful - even I could see that and I was his best friend.”
Of course he's abnormally good looking. Of course.
“I can’t believe this is your first day and you have the whole of the football team after you already. I heard them all talking about you in my first period Calculus class. They’re all placing bets on who will sleep with you first,””
I can't fucking believe she used the same tacky bet as in the previous book. How unoriginal can you get?
“I don’t want to be a cheerleader.” I shook my head at the thought. I groaned. I didn’t want guys hitting on me all freaking day!”
Poor you :((((
“Rachel and I chatted whenever we could, whenever the teacher wasn’t looking and as we walked between classes. She was really nice and we actually had a lot in common. She told me all about the school and how it works, pointing out people of interest - hot guys. Or people to stay away from - clingy stalker types. She said that Clay and his three friends that I had met this morning were part of the football team and were the most popular and most sought after boys in school”
Please notice the lack of complexion in the writing. Did this woman just got out of high school?
“After History class I walked with Rachel to lunch. As soon as I entered the cafeteria the room fell silent”
I've lost count of how many times has that happened in one day.
“I didn’t have to hold on as much. When we got back to the table, he plopped me back into my chair. Everyone was staring at us again”
Maybe you have something in your teeth?
“Ok I really shouldn't go with him, I hardly know him and he has a bad reputation. But he honestly seems so sweet!”
Yeah, he's cute, no fucking way cute people can be lunatics. I mean, he's fucking cute.
And by the way... All the quotes are from chapter one. You've been warned.
I really really wanted to like this, having just read 'The Boy Who Sneaks in my Bedroom Window' (which I loved), thought I'd read another book from this author.
Well, I can't speak for anyone else (this book has like 98% of great reviews), but I just found it unrealistic and childish. I'm sorry, ok! I couldn't even finish it , I'm about 25% in and already I want to strangle nearly every single character for being so darn stupid! First of all they are all blind, it's so obvious that Clay likes, urm, I forgot her name already (..checking..) Riley! Anyway, just so obvious, the amount of times Clay looks "sad" and Riley has absolutely no idea why, not even giving any though on it whatsoever (groans) it's just getting seriously frustrating, Blake on the other hand has some anger issues, and the fact that I have 3/4 left to read of this, assuming that they get together for good in the last 10%, that's a lot of time wasting (on my account anyway) getting irritated when I could be reading a book that I'm actually going to like. So yea, I'd still recommend reading the first few chapters, because it's highly likely that you'd probably be in the other 98% of people who loved this book
Oh god oh god oh god. What did I just read ... or skim through? It's been a while since I've read anything this bad. And I have no idea how this book earned nearly 4 stars on Goodreads. It must've been rigged. Or we just have a bunch of 10 year olds reading YA nowadays.
I stopped at maybe 10%. And it already felt like I had been reading for ages. Seriously, why was this book so damn long? HOW DID ANYONE PUT UP WITH THIS TORTURE? So, so bad. Horrible. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!!!!!
But why, you may ask? Where do I even begin?? I'll start of with our narrator, I guess. She's what, 16? However old she is, she speaks like she's 11. 13, tops. Her thoughts in italics were literally, "OMG! He is super cute! He makes me want to squeal!" And makes me want to THROW UP out of my asshole.
Then we have her friendship with Clay. I have seen friends. I have seen boy-girl friendships. But I have never heard of anything remotely CLOSE to whatever the hell is happening between Clay and Riley. The book starts off and it's clear they're already down to fuck. Like I'm not even joking, THEY SLEEP IN THE SAME BED! THEY MAKE OUT! THEY TOUCH EACH OTHER LIKE THEIR HANDS AND BODIES ARE MADE OF VELCRO! Seriously, what is even going on? Don't even get me started on that time they gave each other hickies. In the hallway. Like it was totally normal. Yeah, ya know. Just let me lean over and suck on my friend who's a boy's neck. It's not like people will think we're dating.
Then there's Riley's attitude. I'm not even joking, but she must be goddamn Katie Upton or something from the amount of times she's been "hit on." (Her words, not mine). Literally she comes to this school and boys are practically lining up to even take a look at her like she's the bachelorette or something. LIKE HOW HOT IS THIS CHICK? EVEN IF SHE WAS FUCKIN BEYONCÉ THAT KIND OF SHIT JUST DON'T HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE!!!!! Also. On her first day of school she gets her ass slapped at least twice. Seriously. That's not okay. But Riley, stupid fucking little Riley doesn't even care. SHE ALMOST LIKES IT what is wrong with this school of fuckers oh my GOD. Then she goes to a football game and what happens? She's approached by another extremely hot guy named Blake (I swear no one in this book is ugly, nor does anyone have what people like to call a personality). Blake is instantly attracted to Riley, like ready to consummate with her IN LOVE. I don't get it. Has this Riley chick drugged everyone single boy? By the way, Blake is 21!!!!!!!! Riley is 13!!!!! Okay, well technically she's 16. But with her I really can't tell sometimes. Either way, it's totally illegal and he's a creep! No lie, he stalked our Riley until she went out with him. He buys her a birthday present after they've talked twice. Fast, much?
I said I would finish this book for shits and giggles, but turns out I have better things to do. Like stab my eyes out. Or sauté my arm in a saucepan. Plus other reviews are saying that Blake and Riley end up running to Vegas and get married or some shit?????? I literally can't even right now. I'm waiting to wake up and realize that this book never even existed.
I first discovered Kirsty Moseley back in May of 2012 when I stumbled across her self-published novel, The Boy Who Sneaks in My Bedroom Window (http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...)
Now, after reading Always You, my thoughts are pretty much the same; a little all over the place. Perhaps my KM love stems from my best friends fall in love "g" spot, but there's just something about Kirsty Moseley. It's like she gives me literary beer goggles every single time I read one of her books. I see the flaws, I know the flaws, but I just don't care. I mean, I care...but I don't.
One thing that seems to be a common occurrence in KM books is the lack of parental...well, parenting. Either the parents are pretty much non existent or their blasé carefree parenting is a little unrealistic. Who are these people?? Teenagers sleeping in the same bed and running off to Vegas; it makes so much of the story implausible, but isn't that one of the great things about fiction? You can manipulate and redefine plausible to make your story work. Kirsty Moseley does this and she does this often, but she does this well.
I didn't like Always You as much as TBWSIMBW and I completely understand the negative reviews. I had some of the same thoughts, but at the same time there was just something about it. Maybe Kirsty Moseley laces her words in heroine, maybe there are subliminal messages hidden between the pages, maybe I'm just looking for something that's not there because I am obsessed with best friend romances, but either way...I liked it. I read it from start to finish without a break and despite some "yeah right" eye rolls, I was hooked. Like I said in my TBWSIMBW review, it will all come down to your ability to overlook the improbable and see the story. Forgive some editing issues and see the story. Look deep, and see what's lying beneath, a great story...a fictional story.
Another thing I have to mention is KM's ability to write chemistry, passion...SEX. She writes steam and does this achingly well...achingly.
At the end of the day, I know many of you will have some of the same issues as other readers, but I also know that Kirsty Moseley has some great stories to tell. Addictive stories. Stories that I have grown to love. My ramblings may have confused the hell out of you, but Kirsty Moseley has completely confused the hell out of me. She's confused me, drawn me in, and has me begging for more.
Something FREE from Kirsty Moseley
Thanks to one of my fabulous facebook friends Stephanie Dunn, I discovered a free KM book on wattpad, Nothing Left to Lose. This book has the potential to be the best book Kirsty Moseley has ever written. Be warned though, it's raw...very raw. It needs a lot of editing and a thorough cleaning of the excess, but WOW!! I loved the story. It's a complete detour from her other two books, but it has the same addictive appeal. I can't tell you how much I'd love to beta NLTL! I'd love to beta all over it. Beta it so hard. So. Much. Potential. Did I mention it's free? WOW!
This has the potential to be another 'incredible' read !! X Yet again, more truly addictive characters in Riley and Clay....in fact i'd quite like my very own 'Clay' xx It's the Best Friends fall in love story, that I am a true sucker for....the incredible sexual tension ...the 'First Time'....AND then....POW !!!!! An incredible twist and Oh how I sobbed !! The middle section needs some 'cutting down'( I read it on Wattpad so wasn't edited).. I LOVE a bit of romance, but there were slightly too many 'I love you Riley Bears' at one point !! LOL x The beginning was YUM....so gorgeous and romantic and Vegas was just so beautiful and really FUN to read....Although PLEASE, when this gets published...Put back in the DELETED scene !!! That was JUST PERFECT XX AND then....OMG... The last 10 chapters, from 24 onwards...WOW !! I simply couldn't stop reading and my emotions were a MESS !!!! I was still reading at 3am Lol x The tension, the heartache, the love, the tragedy, the elation !!!! When Riley came back to the Hospital with her shoe box full of Memories...I SOBBED...out loud !!!! It was just INCREDIBLE xx OH....and the last chapter and Epilogue, that just about finished me off !!! I had to get up this morning and re-write my reveiw as I was an emotional wreck by 3am !!!! Can't wait for it to be refined and published...and then I can read it AGAIN and possibly AGAIN !! X
I have found yet another favorite author :) WOW!! :) I enjoyed The Boy Who Sneaks In My Bedroom Window soooo much and couldn't wait to read this!! Boy was I so far from disappointed!! I loved this book!!
Riley & Clay are just 2 amazing characters, and what I loved even more is how strong Riley is as a female character. Clay is such a man, mature for his age yet still care free and free spirited, but It was a breathe of fresh air to feel like it was Riley who was the strong one, especially after Clays accident. Normally the female lead characters are soft, and defenseless, always needing a man to protect them, but Riley really held her own, even though she was dependent on Clay for many things.
Books like this make you believe in modern day fairy tales and as my favorite author Amanda Bennett ( author of Beautifully Broken) says: "I do believe in happy endings. I also believe that it takes a bit of bad experiences and rough roads to get you there, but in the end I strongly believe it is worth it."
The Epilogue is my absolute favorite, I got my happy ending :) <3
It’s like it was written by a 14-year-old with high hopes for how her high school experience is going to be. Apparently the heroine is super, unbelievably hot but didn’t know it. Almost everybody is in love with her and *every* girl is jealous of her upon her first day of school. Very unrealistic. I had to stop myself from constantly banging my head against my headboard. I really tried pushing through this but I couldn’t with how the heroine kept talking on and on about how clueless she is about everything around her. Ugh. This should be on wattpad instead.
Honestly, the moment I checked out was when she saw him for the first time in a ~month~ and then immediately did that dramatic jump thingy on him and apparently wrapped her legs around his waist. Ugh. NO.
I was so surprised at this book, so it started off for me as a great YA book, everything you need for a great friends to lovers story. Sweet handsome sporty guy, fun confident pretty girl, I thought I was in for a predictable story line taking me straight to a happily ever after ... Well I got all the benefits of a great romance but with added drama and depth. I could not have been more surprised this was a well written book which has me rushing to see what else this author has to offer! Great story, drama, epic love, amazing characters - total thumbs up from me. Recommendation - read it!
**update** i forced myself (lotsa skimming) and finished the book. If you are 16 years old and have no idea about what is realistic in life, you will enjoy this. everyone else... you should skip.
im at 70% but i had to stop ... im not sure i can finish this.. and after looking at the reviews.. its a similar scenario. 1. Was this written by a 16 year old? 2. this was so immature. 3. pro - cute bff's that turn into love. BUT 4. who lets their kids sleep over when theyre teenagers? 5. who lets them go to vegas for a weekend? 6. if youre obviously british - why are you setting the scene somewhere you have no clue about. no one high fives. they brofist. no one says lets have a proper date or whatever terms the UK uses. why couldnt this just be based in london? 7. why is everyone so beautiful? 8. the immense amount of making out...spare me. 9. this is so unrealistic. you might as well added some monsters under the bed. 10. the villain in the story, blake.. randomly pops up. 11. PRO - author knows how to keep you interested even tho the story is boring. but im not sure how much more i can take.. 17 yr olds married, with their own apt and their mom's are giving them wedding gifts. :/ seriously?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The only reason I finished this book was so I could write this review. It started okay, right of the bat I realized that the author repeats sentences in every paragraf which annoyed me, but I continued reading it hoping it would get better. Oh boy was I wrong! Not only was the main character crying every single page, but the moments that were supposed to be sweet where overly cliché "Riley Bear". I´m not actually sure what was worse the writing style or the lack of depth of any sort in the characters. It was extremely dramatic at times going from 0 to 100 in a second, not in a good way. Half way through I decided that I will finish it so others won´t have to...
i wanted to giv this book just 4 stars, i really did, coz it was SOO LOOONG it pissd me off to no end!! but i cn not help but give it full 5 stars!! n since the books was LOOONG, this is goin to be a LOOOOOOONG review
ok so this books has flaws n a lot o them it was a realllllyyy loooooong book (jst like the other book 'The Boy Who Sneaks in my Bedroom Window', wich i did give up on) i kinda gave up by chap 9, coz evrything that happens in a typically YA book had awrdy happend by then!! i really cudn imagine wat else could happen to fill THIRTY THREE CHAPTERS!!! it has so many cliche's, i gave up counting it also is the winner of book with the most number of 'I Love You's in it (i kid u not, it made atlest three appearence in evry single page) the chick, Riley, pissed me off in the beginning. lost in the love triangle n shit n their world was perfect, waaaaay to perfect so perfect n convenient it was annoying n the 'other guy', don even get me started n Riley, i get it, Clay's perfect believe me, EVERYONE gets it, so quit mentioning that in EVERY SINGLE PAGE!!! m dieing of jealousy as it is, u don hav to rub it in girl! i had pegged this book to be one o those books that are pointlessly written for the heck of it!
BOY WAS I WRONG!!!
i dunno when or where xactly, but the book picked up its pace n really started going places! lyk a super mario game, completing levels after levels of teenage romance! so much LOVE in this book it makes u all giddy! :) o and that man CLAY PRESTON!! *sigh* screw riley, i wana be Mrs.Preston!!! he goes up on my list ryt alongside Travis Maddox, Jude Ryder, Noah Hutchins and the likes TOTALLY!! i was glad he was not 'haunted by his past' or any of that crap he was great, SIMPLY AWSOME! this book definitely put my faith back in the whole 'one and true love forever' it really did their relationship was tested at scary levels n evrytym it survived, i jst wanted to jump up n clap lyk a lunatic!!
so evn if it was impossibly LONG, it was totally worth it if ur a fan of swoon inducing, drool worthy, sappy, chocolatey love story, this is a MUST READ!!!
ps: i read the version with a tulip and wedding bands on the cover i jst saw this new cover on goodreads while rating the book can i jst say this cover is PERFECT!!! simply PERFECT!!!
CLAY PRESTON!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh maybe i shd get back to Liam from 'The Boy Who Sneaks in my Bedroom Window'
The longest 15hrs of my life! I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.
I'm afraid this book was a huge fail for me, I love the synopsis and the fact the that it was a long friendship that turned into love.
The storyline however was just too much, there was way too many stories going on in one book.
Look, we all have our pet names for people, hell I even call my other half "chick" but throughout the whole book????really????
"Riley Bear" (eye roll) is our MC, her and Clay have been best friends since they were knee high, their parents even think that they will eventually end up together living happily ever after, this is probably why at 16 Riley Bears parents allow her to have Clay stay overnight once a week to watch movies, sleeping in the same bed may I add!!!?????
I mean come on, parents of 16yr old daughters would not allow this, especially with an 18 year old boy with raging hormones, are they stupid or what??
The thing is Clay is not like other boys, oh no, he is a perfect gentleman and treats Riley Bear with the utmost respect (apart from one time copping a feel) even telling his friends to leave her alone!
Oh and what is up with the hickeys ?? Nobody does that NOBODY!!!
The list kinda goes on and on for this book and I feel terrible giving a book a bad review, but I said I would be honest so there you are ;○)
One story morphs into another story, Riley has the most trustworthy parents in the universe, even giving her and Clay $1000 to go gambling, in Vegas, underage! (oh yeah and getting married!) After scoring some fake id's (they just give them away in the US don't ya know) they win twelvety million squillion dollars at the casino and just walk on out with it, without even flashing their sparkly fake id's and pop off to get wed!
Then we have the stalker Blake (eye roll) Then the accident with the miraculous recovery (eye roll) Riley Bear telling Clays parents that they basically weren't allowed into the hospital room to see their own son on deaths door, and of course the sweet sacherine ending.
After reading it I wanted to go and read some good old fashioned smut to cleanse my pallet! .
First of all, it was very poorly written. A book targeted to a 13-year old audience (minus the erotica). This is the first book that I have read from this author, and sadly, I don't understand why this is receiving 4-stars and above. The plot, I must say is quite unrealistic. I mean, come on, what kind parents with a decent mind allow an 18 year old, testosterone-pumping male to sleep with their 17 year old daughter? Even if they are really close, childhood friends even, it's just a major no.
The protagonist is basically a very promiscuous woman and she knows it, based on the first few pages of the book, yet she hates on the girls who are like her. She tends to contradict herself all the time especially with her decisions. This is probably why I didn't like her.
That is all I could say about this book and I hope the author further develops her literary skills and think of a more sophisticated and realistic storyline.
So i saw the rating for this book and its pretty high so obviously i was expecting for the book to be.... good. It wasn't even remotely good. I'm not even half way into the story and i already feel like my brain is being butchered by this crap. No, seriously, like wtf?
And it wasn't even a main part that made me feel like ASHKHASJAHKAWSDFJKHED; ENOUGH! it was some shitty scene in a diner on her birthday when she goes with that Blake guy to eat and the waitress "sneers" at her when she wants to order.
what? wha-wha-what? no,no,no. shit like that does not happen. shes ordering a milkshake. Not everyone has to be obsessed with you or jealous because your with a good looking guy. Its so fucking unrealistic that its frustrating me to no end.
just stop for a second and try to imagine it:
MainGurl: Can i haz ah milshek plez?
Waitress:
The whole freaking story is so exaggerated and the main charcter is annoying as fuck.
the story basically goes like this:
A girl moves to a new school and shes nervous about not having friends or fitting in and is going through this whole fake anxiety period and then she steps out of her car and is as if time stops. Im not shitting you this girl made time stop. all of a sudden all the boys wanna have sexual intercourse ._. (yes, i said sexual intercourse) with her and every single girl is, for some reason, jealous of her because... who the fuck knows why AND THEN her BFFF (clay) comes out of no where, he also happens to be the most popular guy ever which makes people more jealous and some other bull shit happens and blah blah blah.... i didn't carry on reading -_-
Her and Clay are weird...they have some weird almost friends with benefits relationship but then brush it off as a joke... (im sorry i didn't realize sucking the shit out of someones neck was considered friendly O_O)
Long story short, this story is dumb as fuck.
there's so much more i can say but honestly i cba to waste my time on this anymore so with that i said, adios!
Title: Always you Series: - Author: Kirsty Moseley Release Date: 31 October, 2013 Rating: 4 stars Cliffhanger: No HEA:
I've read this book a couple of years back and the reason i decided to review it now is because i still remember the story vividly after all this time. So i figured that it deserves a review from me!:)
*RILEY*
*CLAY*
*best friends...*
*who eventually become...*
*...more than friends.*
I love friends-to-lovers stories. I think it's my favorite kind of romance.
Riley's and Clay's story is not a "normal" one. In fact one could describe it as "unusual", "unrealistic" and "over the edge" and i wouldn't blame them. But it IS a story... one that i happen to like a lot! :)
I think people would either love or hate this book because of its "unrealistic" nature - i use quotes because i don't believe in this term especially when it comes to fiction. I recently started watching a show called 'Obsession: Dark Desires' and believe me when i say that the TRUE stories that are shown there are pretty "unrealistic"...
Riley and Clay are friends since they were young. They are next door neighbors and they practically grew up together. The "over the edge" part is that they often sleep in the same bed together and their parents know all about it and they're okay with it - which is kind of weird and lets face it, creepy... Clay's feelings are more than friendly ones and he's been feeling like that for quite sometime. Riley is starting feel the same way but she doesn't want to jeopartize her relationship with Clay so she tries to ignore them. She meets Blake, a very handsome older guy but she soon realizes that he's not the guy for her - due to things that I'll let you find out by yourselves by reading the book - and so she decides to give Clay a chance.
As i said before, this is a story that has stuck with me and i only read the book once. For this reason alone i thought it would be fair to somehow praise it. :)
LOVED IT (: tried putting it down but couldn't...yeah I had homework to do, but the book was so freaking amazingly good so homework-eh- whatever...
First of all, I think they are just adorable. I was super annoyed at Riley though. I mean, how dense can she be? Her best friend is the ultimate package and EVERYBODY knows he is in love with her, except well, her. Dense much? Yeah, I mean she is just so stupid that I was very very tempted To rip out the pages of the book. Sigh, well at least she realizedm after some hot smacking and such and such. Yeah, if that didn't wake her up then....
So I thought that Blake chambers was super dreamy...until he fractured Riley's wrist, became stalker ish, and oh yeah, don't forget the so-not-creepy pictures all over his wall..PLUS THE BIPOLAR MOOD SWINGS
Yeah, two dates totally makes them official.
I HATED BLAKE when he stabbed clay. Like full on loathing there. Never thought I could be so wrecked with emotions there ): i was seriously SHOUTING at my tablet, "NOOOO CLAY DON'T DIE, PLEASE DON'T DIE!" I mean it got to the point where I went to the ending to see if he died )': WHICH I NEVER DO!
OMG THO, I seriously think they are my most favorite couple (: adorable. WISH FOR A SEQUEL (: or continuation or something somehow?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Always You is like the book version of every CW show ever, complete with high school where everyone is perfect, teenage love, angst, and a wedding in Veges at 17. Parents are abusive people who don't understand their kids. Expect the one set of "cool" parents who do and totally let their underage daughter sleep together with her underage boyfriend in the same bed, naked. Adult authority is so absent from their entire book its almost like the author forgot about it along with the plot. Serious WTF-age. Don't read this crap.
What a great story - angst, love, romance. I cried and laughed thoughout this book. Story of Clay and Riley who started as childhood friends. I don't want to spoil the story for other readers - a decision made by Clays parents made me angry and frustrated but then as I a parent would I have made the same decision - I think maybe I would have; a less fulfilling life is better than no life at all - or is it? Recommend this book great read for a great author.
No dobra. Okay.
No bo serio. Twoja szesnastoletnia córka idzie na randkę z 21-latkiem, a mamusia lata i piszczy jaki on przystojny. NO WTF KURNA.
No i jest jeszcze ta druga część.
Okeh...sebelum saya mulai ngoceh gak jelas, mending saya kasi tau dulu ceritanya kayak gimana. Some spoilers here, so beware.
Thus dimulailah hubungan mereka. Apa konfliknya?
Ketika Riley memilih CLay, Blake pun gak rela. Dia berubah jadi stalker bahkan sampe ke titik dia nekat menculik Riley.
Udah segitu aja ah sinopsisnya. Males kasi cerita lebih panjang #eh
Sama kayak di The Boy Who Sneaks in my Bedroom Window (TBWSimBW), covernya masih keren.
Saying i-love-you is nice and sweet, but overdo it and you'll look like a freak.
Ceritanya pun....gak realistis. Idenya sih lumayan, tentang 2 sahabat yang kemudian saling jatuh cinta. Oh...I know that kind of story very well. Tapi apa Riley dan Clay beneran sahabat? Entahlah. Kadang susah dibedain apa mereka beneran sahabat ato bestfriends with benefit.
Tapi sejak kami kelas 5 SD pun, kami udah gak diizinkan tidur sekamar, apalagi seranjang kecuali mendesak.
- bestfriends tapi hobinya bikin hickey dengan alasan "marking teritorry"? That's weird.
- bestfriend tapi pelukannya sampe rada digendong dan kaki melingkari pinggang cowok? Really weird.
- bestfriend tapi making out to the point of dry hump? Jeez...what's wrong with you two?
Beginner's luck? Maybe....but just too much.
Termasuk ampe nyari apartemen sendiri and bla bla bla. Heu??? 17-18 tahun??? Again...saya tahu itu mungkin. Tapi...too much.
Is this some kind of a soft porn?
So, uhm, I'm going to be really blunt about my review and this will contain spoilers.
This is probably the most badly-written, badly-paced book I have ever read. And I'm not sure if it's because I just downloaded my copy from the internet (edit: Oh, wait. It was published as an ebook. Never mind.) that there were major grammar errors and lack of proper punctuation. And there was censoring, like sex would be spelled as s*x and climax would be spelled like cl*max, which made it really weird since words like shit or bitch weren't. And a lot of scenes were pretty unrealistic making this book a pain to read.
Okay, let's start with the heroine, Riley. She was pretty judgemental. There was one part where there was this girl flirting with Clay and she just immediately assumed she was a skank? Not cool. You just took feminism by the hair and dragged it back into the last century. And this is just pointing out Riley's hypocrisy: she keeps calling every girl who drapes herself on Clay a skank just because they couldn't keep their hands to themselves but the way she acted when she was with Clay was weeeeellll...pretty skanky if you ask me. Okay, Riley was promiscuous as hell. Also, she's another one of those I-transferred-schools-and-suddenly-I'm-the-hottest-thing-on-the-planet-and-have-myriad-of-boys-wanting-to-bone-me-wtf-is-going-on type of heroines. Ugh, gag me.
Clay and Riley's relationship weirded me out a lot. Especially the hickey thing...like, who does that? No, seriously. If you and your friends give each other a hickey on occasion, ring me up. Plus the multiple almost-sex scenes ending in, "let's forget about what happened and stay friends" made me want to grab ther genitals and squeeze out my frustration. Also, the speed in which they turned from best friends to sex craved lovers was too much for me.
Another thing that bugged me was that Riley's parents were a little too...loose on her. Who gives their kid 1000 dollars to gamble? I mean, my mom doesn't even give me money to buy food. God forbid the perfect white characters lack all necessary materials to live a hedonistic lifestyle. The amount of first-world problems in this book...ALSO THAT PART WHERE HER MOM COMMENTED ON RILEY AND CLAY'S MAKE-OUT SESSION WITH "SO HOT" LEFT ME WITH A BIG WTF FACE. LIKE SERIOUSLY????????!!!!
AND THEY GOT MARRIED IN VEGAS AND ACTED LIKE IT WAS NO FUCKING DEAL. Excuse me while I kick myself.
I didn't finish this for multiple reasons: the grammar, Riley, and the fact there that was too much going on AND I HAVEN'T EVEN REACHED HALF OF THE DARN BOOK.
I really enjoyed the overall storyline of this book, it was quite involved and a lot happened over the course of the book. However, there was lot that I intensely disliked about this book as well. Primarily these were:
1. The reader has to suspend their belief quite significantly as the story unfolds, primarily due to the behaviour of the parents. For instance, Riley's parents don't seem to express any concern over their 16 year old daughter going on a date with a 21 year old, even though her date quite rightly points out that they can't have sexual relations because he could get charged with statutory rape. Also, they seem to be quite happy for Riley and her best male friend to have sleepovers in the same bed all the time, even though she at 16 and he at 18 are at a prime age for something more than friendship to be going on.
2. Clay constantly refers to Riley as 'Riley Bear' which became incredibly annoying after a while. Ditto with Blake always referring to her as jailbait because she was younger than he. Neither one of her romantic interest seemed to call her by her real name.
3. The two MC constantly telling the reader how beautiful their boyfriend/girlfriend is... Ok, we get it, they are extremely good looking!
4. The fairly constant stream of girls and even women who hit on Clay or Blake while Riley is out with them, or the constant glares and dirty looks she gets from females when she is seen together with them.... do females really behave this way when they see another girl with a good looking guy? Apparently they do. And
5. The slut shaming.
However, although these facets of the story aggravated the hell out of me, I was thankfully still able to enjoy the overall story. At first it seemed there was going to be an annoying love triangle but it was great to see the story take a surprising turn and go down a completely different path. The relationship that Riley eventually forms with one of the boys Is really quite charming and loving and I really cheered for them to work. The characters also have to face some trials and tribulations over the course of the book and this kept me interested in the story.
Overall, I would say if you feel you can move past the aforementioned annoying parts of the book, this may be a book you could enjoy.
I was provided a free copy of this audible book in exchange for an honest review.
