Nebraska born and bred Navy SEAL Calvin “Coop” Cooper, after his own family has perished in a tornado, is ordered to meet the family of a prominent San Diego psychiatrist. The doctor’s brother is a fallen SEAL medic who died in Grenada. There, Cooper meets Libby Brownlee, the beautiful niece of this fallen hero. Heavily influenced by her father, “We don’t speak military here,” is her comment about the military in general, and the SEAL community in particular.
What starts out as a frosty debate between two people privately dealing with their own personal grief, turns into a passionate affair neither expected. Just as Cooper realizes perhaps Libby is the woman he’s always been looking for, she is snatched out from under him by a psychopathic killer bent on revenge.
Dr. Brownlee is forced to rely on Cooper’s help, along with his buddies in SEAL Team 3. Will Cooper be able to survive the loss of the woman he loves, or will his self sacrifice be enough to keep her safe?
I got this as a freeie, thought it looked like a fun popcorn read. I'm ex-Army and love me some sexy, military romance fluff.
Sigh... I got even less than I expected, and I didn't expect much even with all the 5 stars. I didn't leave a star since I don't believe in rating a book I didn't finish. But this was too funny not to share. I do hope the author continues to write and gets a better editor.
ETA: Apparently, this is one of her earlier books. She may have gotten better. I have no opinion on that since I haven't read any more of her work.
I tried to keep reading, really I did.
Writing Sin #1: All telling, no showing. He did this. He did that. He felt this way. He felt that way. Oh, hey your entire family is dead. We don't get to see it. We just get to see his melt down, sort of. But since we've just met Coop, who cares that he's family's dead. Meh. We never met them either.
Writing Sin #2: Grammar, grammar, grammar, GRAMMAR!!! By the first chapter, second page I'd read this soda-spewer."Coop rolled over and placed his palms behind his head, disentangling the sweaty sheet from his long six-foot-four-inch legs."
Wait. What? I'm not sure which part is freaking me out more. The fact that it's implied that his hands (which are behind his head and also should be clasped not placed but that's nitpicking) are also disentangling the sheet from his legs, or that apparently his LEGS are 6'4". Holy shit those are some long ass legs!
Plus there's some misplaced punctuation and whatnot... But that's small potatoes compared to the above line.
Writing Sin #3: Boring, boring, boring protagonist. And a little gross. Four chapters in and I should give a crap about Cooper, a member of SEAL team 3. I mean, the poor guy has just lost his entire family. Meh. Don't care cause I don't know him. I don't know him because I've only been told about him, not shown him doing much that reveals his character.
Except that he thinks about sex a lot, including during his family's funeral. Ewwww... I know guys think about sex a lot, but COME ON! This does not make me like your protag. He actually ogles his old high school girlfriend's boobs while in the church. During the memorial! Then he fantasizes about how they used to have sex. And she notices and flirts. Double ewwww! I'm no prude or bible-thumper, but if I'd just lost my ENTIRE FREAKING FAMILY INCLUDING THE DAMN DOG I wouldn't be thinking about sex. I know my husband would agree with me on this. He's the sensitive one in our family.
So Coop has major issues. Icky ones.
----
When I got to this line in reference to the female protag... "Her dad was gardening near the front steps of their peach-colored estate.... Well, I just couldn't anymore.
After I was able to breathe normally and cleaned up the spewed soda, I thought WTH? Peach-colored estate? Did the lawn-guys spray paint the landscaping in a fit of low-pay-induced rage? Or perhaps she means "estate with peach-colored stucco" or "peach-colored stucco estate"
Funny how one word changes the entire meaning.

I enjoy escapism, but it has to be good escapism. It may not have a few good men--er--lines, but it did give me a few good laughs.
The premise when I read the blurb sounded good but for the life of me, I just could not get into this book. It started off with promise but it just went downhill from there. I'm sure it works for some but it went off on so many different forks that I wasn't sure if she was setting it up to have more story with each of these other lines or not. The way this was done just didn't make sense and I had no interest in all the backstory of characters that had nothing to do with the main story. I would have liked to have seen more action but you don't get the main deal of the story until the very last. This could have been a great story but there was no depth and I was eventually skimming the pages to get to the end. The action that was in the book was just too vague. Lots of alluding to things and just not enough detail when it mattered. This is the second book by this author that I have read and thank goodness it was free or I never would have read it. Safe to say that I will not be reading another.
Fallen SEAL Legacy is the second installment of the SEAL Brotherhood series. In it, yu will meet Calvin and Libby. I will admit this book was a bit better than the first one and it also had a side of creepy element to it.
So these two main characters have something in common: being hurt. Whether it's a family death or two.. or finding out you put your trust in the wrong person. They've got it. Calvin just had his whole world flipped upside down. An unexpected tornado wiped out his family and all he has left from home is his dog. Then there's Libby who is trying to get her masters but ends up being molested by her mentor.
These two were cute and you could definitely hear the chemistry in this book. However, I will forever cringe when I hear the word nob. It's a step up from mound I guess.. but still cringing. Forever cringing.
Besides all of that, there's some creepy guy lurking around in Libby's life. I liked the twists and turns shoved my way - mostly because it got me away from the word nob, but it was good. Overall, I liked the ending as much as I could and I even dove into the next book.
Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I am a SEAL book groupie. I just love these Alpha Heroes and the women who win their hearts. The romance between Coop and Libby really burns up the pages as the sex scenes overwhelm both the romance and the suspense in this book.
Coop is one big hormone when he is in the US. He lives his life for the SEALs and sex until he is notified that his entire family has died in a tornado in Nebraska. This send him into a short period of introspection. His Chief send him to pay a visit to the family of a SEAL who died in Grenada to try to get him outside himself. The meeting is a disaster but the daughter sparks something in Coop.
Libby has come home after almost being raped by her masters program advisor. She finds her father distracted and is concerned. When Coop shows up Libby's father is rude and not receptive. Libby seeks out Coop and the two end up having sex. There is a crazy who is sending threats to Libby's family and Coop is concerned and more than sexually attracted to Libby. 3 1/2-Stars
My first love has never been contemporary romance, but as an author who continues to excel and reach new heights with each story she writes, Sharon Hamilton definitely has turned me into a dedicated reader of her SEAL Brotherhood. In Fallen SEAL Legacy we take an emotional journey with Calvin “Coop” Cooper who is a giant with rugged good looks and boyish charm and has the ladies clamouring for his attention. Coop has just experienced a personal tragedy that has left him questioning where he belongs, but one thing he knows for sure is that he isn’t looking for a happily ever after, as SEALs just aren’t cut out to be the forever type of guy. But when Coop is presented with a task by his superior to prove that he is ready to return to active duty, he doesn’t expect to meet the fiery and opinionated Libby Brownlee. Libby is going through her own emotional turmoil and has returned home to heal and consider her options for the future, and that future does not include a huge, arrogant, hunky Navy SEAL. Sparks fly as these opposites attract, and in the midst of their sizzling passion their resolve will be tested by not only Libby’s less than impressed father, Coop’s continued confusion about his feelings and a psychopath waiting in the wings for his opportunity to strike. If you loved the first book and two novellas in the SEAL Brotherhood, you will definitely love Coop!!
I'm trying to come out of my box, read a few things I might not have otherwise chosen- which translates to..I tried a romance novel thinking I ought to read something different. This one was a freebie, it was about a guy from Nebraska, a military guy, fairly hot from the cover and descriptions of Coop--okay, I was in.
I ought to have been crying in my soup. The premise of the book is Seal Team 6 member Calvin "Coop" Cooper has just lost his entire family in a storm in Nebraska while he was deployed. As a healing mechanism, his team leader requires him to connect with a family, a psychiatrist who lost his Seal brother a number of years previous. Upon meeting the family, Coop connects with the psychiatrist's daughter, Libbie, who has recently returned from college after dropping out as a result of a traumatic episode of sexual harassment at the hands of her mentor. Sparks fly and let the healing romance begin. It sounds really good.
Honestly, though, the writing fell flat. The characters didn't develop. I shed no tears over Coop's loss because I never really felt it. I didn't heal with Libbie because she never even dealt with the issue emotionally herself. Evidently the sex with Coop was so great she just sort of "forgot" about her situation.
Hamilton seems to have great ideas for contemporary romance stories. Fans of light, sexy romance novels with lots of details will pick this one up. As for me..I'll be looking for the next great romance novel elsewhere.
Gah. I actually wasted hours of my life finishing this to review it, and it was hell. Bad grammar, disjointed plotline, unbelievable characters...avoid this one.
Coop and Libby have been passing each other for some time. Not connected until his family was killed. Now he has been charged with connecting with a fallen SEAL's family as a way to heal. What he didn't expect was Libby. Their time together was steamy. But her father has a stalker that is out for blood. Cooper's player past has him running scared. But will he get his head and heart together in time to save her from the mad man?
I'd like to first comment on J.D. Hart's narration. While still very good, I was disappointed after having had listened to Accidental SEAL. The voice Cooper has in this book is different from the one he featured in Accidental SEAL. It really bothered me that they were different, especially since I enjoyed the voice he had in Accidental SEAL.
As for the story line, it was enjoyable. Cooper and Libby's romance was sweeter and less tumultuous than Kyle and Christy's. Cooper spends far less time fighting his feelings for Libby and Libby also is far more accepting of hers for Cooper (as opposed to Christy, who struggled with hers for Kyle a bit). Neither Cooper nor Libby went back and forth between hot and cold like Kyle and Christy frequently did. That being said, the story line itself was also something new.
The threat to Libby and her family was much closer and more intimate. One thing that bugged me in respect to this was that, although he turned out not to be the one doing the horrible things, we don't really know what happens to the pedophile doctor. Additionally, with both Accidental SEAL and Fallen SEAL Legacy, the only justice we really see is that of the vigilante variety. We don't find out legal justice is enforced or the outcome of such justice for the criminals. While this isn't a huge thing, it is still something I wish I got to see more of.
This antagonist/situation/threat also didn't seem nearly as dangerous as the threat to the characters in Accidental SEAL. Fallen SEAL Legacy had less action than Accidental SEAL. In the same vein, there wasn't much violence in this book by comparison. While the majority of the book was quite as exciting, Libby's rescue definitely still is.
Having said all of that, I did enjoy this book. The romance between Cooper and Libby is sweet and interspersed with many steamy sex scenes. I also really appreciated the dynamic between Cooper and Dr. Browning (Libby's dad). The tension between the two from the start makes their sit down after the gala that much better. It's then that we find out exactly why Dr. Browning has been treating Cooper with such disdain and Cooper reveals his reason for not drinking to Dr. Browning. It's a touching scene between the two men that completely turns their relationship and the way they see each other around. I found it very gratifying to finally see everybody on the same page in respect to Cooper and his relationship to Libby.
Overall, a good book and one I enjoyed. Despite the threat to Libby and her family, I wouldn't describe any part of the book as dark. This is definitely a lighter read with a HEA ending and no cliffhanger. I definitely plan on continuing the SEAL Brotherhood series with SEAL Under Covers.
I had the pleasure of listening to this book on audio. Here is my review.
"Falling for Sexy Seals!!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why? Yes, absolutely! I have been a fan of Sharon Hamilton for years now and each book is better than the last.
What did you like best about this story? I loved the obvious chemistry between Coop and Libby, which of course they deny.
What does J. D. Hart bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book? I love J.D. narrattions. He brings the story to life in a way in I wouldn't be able to do reading the book on my own.
Any additional comments? The Seal Brotherhood is one of my favorite series. I love Sharon's descriptive writing and how she brings these heroes to life.
It was good but I don't like it that much when an author portrays the hero as addicted to sex and that's what starts the relationship. It was almost every time they got together boom! Sex then he wanted to call it off for awhile when her and her family were in trouble but he just couldn't stay away. I gave 4 stars because he did develope true feelings for her and he along with his SEAL buddies came to the rescue and saved her. That's what made it good. Sometimes there's just too much sex and not enough of actual getting to know the person first. I guess I'm just a little old fashioned and not into the casual sex scene and let it build from there
Yum! I love a 6'5 mama's boy from Nebraska! Although this book was in dire need of editing...BIG TIME...I enjoyed it. Coop and Libby fell for each other rather quickly so you must believe in love at first sight or at least subscribe to the idea for this story to work. I enjoy the adventures of SEALTeam 3 and look forward to another adventure. Maybe Armando or Fredo will get lucky and the women won't be SOOOOO easy! It's like they see a SEAL and their legs fall open...
Sharon Hamilton has done it again! What a great read this second book has been! Great character growth and plot. I would have liked to see some SEAL action in these books but I'm ok with a look into their down time for a change. I really liked how important family was to both main charcters. The romance was HOT and STEAMY!!! I'm looking forward to the next book in this series!
What can I say besides this book is awesome I feel in love with this series when I read them in print Now I am going back and listening to all the audio versions and am falling in love with this series even more
I got this in a boxed set, and didn't feel it was as strong as the others. Too many cliches, very few surprises, and I confess I became more critical when the character mentioned his six foot four inch legs. That's one tall seal!
If you're looking for a book with lots of hot sex scenes then this may be the book for you. Personally, I like characters with a bit more emotional depth than I found in this story. Nonetheless, it's a well-written book, just not my cup of teas shall we say.
This book had grammatical erros and the structure was weak in areas. I did not like the build up and it would fizzle out. It would NEVER climax. Not the story anyhow. I really liked Cooper!
4.5 Stars - This is book 2 in the Seal Brotherhood Series. It is Calvin “Coop” Cooper and Libby Brownlee's story. Cooper is a Navy Seal from Team 3. Originally, a farm boy from Nebraska. Now, a tragedy has just struck his life and he does not know how to deal with any of it...other than to bury it. He is forcefully instructed on a mission that will help him with a Fallen SEAL's family. A family who he discovers blames the Navy for their heartache. There he meets this beautiful outspoken firecracker who's father happens to be the twin of the Fallen Seal. A man that you can tell appears to dislike him from the word "go". Wouldn't you know...he is a psychiatrist, exactly what Coop does not want to have to deal with.
Libby has raced home to get away from a rape attempt by someone who she trusted. A professor she thought of as a mentor. Extremely, disillusioned she returns home. She can tell something is no quite right with her father. Then on top of that the Navy sends an enormous SEAL to her home to do who knows what! He is rather handsome in her eyes. Things intensify rather quickly and she realizes Coop and her are not on the same page. He does not want anyone seriously and she did not think she wanted anyone either, but that does not appear to be the case.
A string of scary events start to happen... starting with the murder of her cat and disturbing letters to her father.
This was a very good story. It not only had a hot passionate romance in it but it also had action and suspense. I only wish it had one more chapter to tie in the parents and fellow SEAL's reaction.
The prequel novella was very promising, but the actual novel fell short for me. What I found extremely annoying, so much so that I ended up rating it 2 stars, was the inconsistency in the characters' feelings. And I'm not talking about the main characters, although there were some inconsistencies there as well and they seemed to jump from one state to another and not remember what they felt a few hours before. I don't want to spoil anything, but one of the characters at one point has a pretty convincing speech in defense of one of the other characters, because they were very good friends, and in the next scene this character is very happy said friend was discovered to be a criminal. All these inconsistencies really annoyed me. Other than that, this book has a looooot of sex. (Also, mildly annoying were the H's thoughts on his ex - kinda ex, they weren't in a serious relationship, but still - comparing the ex to his current love interest and thinking about the ex's attributes and sex drive. Maybe guys do that, I don't know, but I don't like reading so much about it.)
As a fan of this series, I loved this book and was even more engrossed in the storyline as I listened to the audio version. Navy SEAL Coop/Cooper has just lost his family in Nebraska after a devastating tornado. Upon his return, his superior forces him to visit the family of a fallen SEAL. Never expecting to meet lovely Libby Brownlee or encounter the animosity of her father, Dr. Brownlee. A man who still blames the Navy for his brother’s death. But more serious danger is in the horizon as a dead cat, a fire , and trespassing surrounds the Brownlees. Coop is determined to keep Libby safe. She’s starting to invade his heart, something that scares him but also draws him even more to Libby. The plot is filled with suspense, whodunit, hunky good guys (some of the SEALs from book 1 and future books make an appearance), bad guys, and of course, romance. The characters are complex and I especially love that the author gives us a strong female character in Libby. Another engaging story that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
This is the 3rd book I've read in this series. I can only imagine what it would be like to find your entire family and your history completely wiped out by a twister. Ouch. I can only imagine what the hero was feeling and then to get your best buddy running to you when you didn't even think he's still be there would be like Christmas time.
Anyhow, this being said, to try and stick your best bud into a love mobile (as I've taken to calling it) and then being ordered to look up a family of a fallen hero. Wow. When the hero meets the heroine - Wow! However, the heroine's father was another Wow. I didn't like him much at all during any of the book. I do love how the hero lives his little gadgets and toys. That made me smile.
This book has enough to make you smile to make up for the weird father of the heroine which plays a huge part in this book. I give the heroine's mother kudos for staying with the husband because I know I wouldn't have.
Wonderful story of Coop and Libby! Love SEAL Team 3 and all the awesome characters!! Kyle and his team are what dreams are made of! Sacrifice, love and commitment for country, family and community is paramount to each member. Cooper lost his entire family. It wasn't until then that heartwrenching reality was truly realized and life had no guarantees.
Libby was horrified at what it almost cost her when she trusted her mentor. Going home to mom and dad to lick her wounds, placed her on Cooper's radar.
An assignment, a direct order, was meant to help Cooper cope with the loss of his family, brought him into Libby's life. Chemistry for each other was there, but stubormess kept them at arms length.
Libby's family was being threaten by a disturbing individual with Coop becoming a prime suspect.
This is one of many fantastic books by Sharon Hamilton! Enjoy yourself as part of the team!
I really liked this story it started off kinda sad... But it was a pretty action adventure story. I didn't give it all five stars because I am kinda finding the lovemaking a bit boring... I was thinking Coop had a bit of kinkiness about him but then it seemed the sex scenes with his girl were only kinky in that they did it in public places... I don't know I just know I skimmed some of the sex scenes and the parts with the investigation and the surveillance also were kinda slow in coming then too fast over. If you liked how the other deals hung out and worked together in the first story it seemed like they didn't really do as much... The new guy.. I am not really sure why or what he is...either. I am gonna take a break before I read the next book but the series is reasonably ok, so I will return eventually.
When freaky things start happening to Libby she goes home to get a breather, but the creeping things keep happening to her family unbeknownst to them, Cooper looses his entire family in a freak tornado and while home he finds his childhood dog survived the tragedy and brings Bay the 3 legged dog back home and ordere d to visit the family of a fallen Seal, and he meets Libby and their relationship is like a tornado, the freaky things continue and suspect Cooper, God bless Seal's team 3 comes to the rescue and figured out the two sick crazy freaks, love triumphant in the end for Libby and Cooper, can't wait to find out what happens next, thank you, Dana
Navy Seal Calvin "Coop" was from Nebraska and his family still on the same farm for generations.b there was a tornado and it destroyed everyone and everything except his dog that he loved and had for years. When he got back he was ordered to meet the family of another seal that died several years ago. The brother was a psychiatrist and his family. He meets Libby Brown Lee and there is an instant connection. The father wouldn't talk about the brother. There was a stalker was getting very bad and dangerous against the entire family. Coop is determined to protect Libby and get his team to help rescue her when she gets kidnapped
After losing his entire family to a tornado, Coop is assigned to learn more about the family of a fallen hero. Greeted my a gruff welcome, it's made perfectly clear that the eldest surviing family doesn't wan to dig up the past. His daugher Libby, is smitten with Coop, and after a recent tragedy of her own, she could use the disctraction! I'm enjoying this series immensely, as it always keep you guessing and on your toes! I found myself gasping and/or crying at several parts, and can't wait for more!
