I enjoy reading children’s picture books, but this one missed the mark for me.
The story is very simplistic, which is good for a toddler with a short attention span.
The illustrations were cute, but it is hard for me to imagine a child enjoying the story.
I had a family member who did not catch onto “please and thank you,” although her parents had good manners. I don’t think this book would have helped. The child is now 6yrs old, with siblings who are 4 and 2. They are all very well-mannered. The book may be a great book to read to some children. It is just not a book that I enjoyed.
I downloaded this as a free Amazon Prime.

The story teaches you to say please but not WHY we say please. very cute illustrations but such a tiny book with no real depth.

4* art (bright, bright colours and the expressions on the penguin are charming)
4* message

We worked very hard to get Squirt to say "please" instead of screaming for things, and this book is perfect to help reinforce the message. I think I have the Richard Scarry book for when he is older, but this series is perfect for him now.

This story tells children that they must use their manners to get the things they want and it shows them respect to other people. If they show respect, they will see that they get the same respect back. The strengths of this story is that the theme was helpful to show students that everyone can be nice and how to show manners. The other strength I have about this book is that it is colorful and catches the reader's attention. I didn't see any possible issues in the story. The story catches the children's attention by using colors and using a fluffy animal that kids love. This is good for teachers as well because it gives them a chance to show kids the meaning of respect to other people, not just your mother or father.

The very magic words please and thank you.Proper manner to teach young children how to speak.

Kids would like this book because it shows that momma penguin is teaching the penguin how to treat others kindly and not rude. A polite form of speaking to others while getting the things you need help with.

Great!

My 6 year old did this as a read independently and loved it. She read fluently and quickly caught on the penguins demanding ways and was quick to tell him to use his manners.

Good, very short, my two year old loved it and asked to read it again immediately. Not really a collectible classic sort of book, but a nice addition if you are working on manners and saying “Please”.

PLEASE!

The HELLO GENIUS series is a great set of books for two - five year old children. Each book stars a new creature, helping little ones identify animals. Short and to the point, the stories introduce simple manners and first words. Perfect teaching tools.

Introduction to manners

This is a cute little story to help introduce manners to very young children. The little penguin demands what it wants, but the adult penguin asks him to say please.

This book would be great for teaching younger children how to use their manners and say 'please' to get what they want. Parents could use this book after reading to remind the children of what they need to say when they want something.

“Penguin Says ‘Please’” by Michael Dahl contains illustrations by Oriol Vidal.

A very demanding Penguin learns the polite way to ask for things. The title gives it away and I liked how the back of the book states the book promotes “manners, speaking skills, first words and animal recognition”.

Very good 👍

I would recommend it for toddlers as it has easy building block words which can help the child with spelling and vocabulary and it helps extended their imagination too.😊🙂😀

These books are very helpful for younger students. This book shows students how to use their manners. Penguin starts off by being demanding. The mom or dad teaches him/her how to use "please" and then Penguin gets the things he/she is asking for.

Cute book but short

It’s short, simple, and to the point with cute illustrations but I wasn’t compelled. This book had potential but It just falls short for me.

Short and sweet

Cute. But also very short. However it does get it's point across that kids should say please and use good manners.
