Rate this book
A simple and often humorous 10-step guide to overcoming your weaknesses-your "Buts"-to achieve the career and personal relationships you want.

Imagine a workplace where every employee is aware of the things they do-or fail to-that prevent them from being more productive and valuable. Imagine a company where everyone speaks openly and honestly about their weaknesses and are committed to strengthening and overcoming them. Imagine an environment where colleagues help each other become more efficient and less disruptive by speaking the truth about what detracts from the team's effort and objectives. Imagine a place where the firm's most talented employees know exactly what they need to do to attain a leadership position. This is no fantasy workplace, it can be your business if you listen to Joseph Azelby and Robert Azelby.

Kiss Your BUT Goodbye will help all professionals find their individual BUT-whether it's a lack of skills, a distracting behavior, or a personality quirk that interferes with achieving success. Using road-tested techniques, Kiss Your BUT Goodbye helps you examine your BUT, understand it, manage it, cover it, and most importantly, shrink it. It also enables managers to help their people discover personal weaknesses and learn how to deliver direct, honest feedback.

Finding your BUT can be tough medicine, but Joe and Bob Azelby deliver it with a tasty spoonful of sugar. Get ready for success . . . get ready to Kiss Your BUT Goodbye.

Many of the BUTs are sort of obvious, or even extreme ("Joe is so smart, BUT he's evil" -- okay, I'm paraphrasing), and solutions are equally disappointing ("Ask yourself why you're being evil, then stop being evil"). Makes for a decent list of potential weaknesses to talk about in interviews, but I can't say I related to many of them -- and I am nowhere near perfect.

I finish the book within two weeks, I just can't put down the book because it almost felt like the Azelbys' brothers are speaking and tell me off to my face. Like hey, listen, "Here's your but! Sit down and finish this before you start to whine at work!"
Whether you are working in a corporate world (there's dozen of situation examples that you can resonate to!) or not, after reading this book, you will definitely want to sit down at a corner to think hard on what's your real BUT that stopping you from achieving your potentials.
Once you have done all that (be honest with yourself! you have too... cos no one is watching, it's just the Alzerbys' brothers words and you) you will realise, how much time have you wasted at work, whining over things that have solutions and not even worth to sulk about. Most of the time, it could be others (depend on how we perceived the situation) that is uncontrollable, but MOSTLY IT IS ABOUT MYSELF (AND YOU TOO) and it is something controllable and changeable! This book not just helping you to identify your BUT, create awareness around to slap your BUT but also make you realise how high or low your EQ is in dealing with a crucial situation (ie. the blockers between you now and better you in future). I would use this book as a reference cos the scenario examples are something that you will usually experience on a day to day basis (at work or personal)

Short and to the point. Great book to read if you’re questioning people’s perspective of you or if you’re in a slump professionally and personally. Makes you take a look inward without all the nonsense some books incorporate.

This was a nice book to read for motivation to change. It does a good job of being no nonsense while sharing good examples of why individuals should get rid of the "but" in the way of success.

A practical examination of the all-too-common ways that people shoot themselves in the foot in their own professional lives, along with an exhortation to turn that train around. All the examples of "good work, but(s)..." ultimately fall under the umbrella of lack of awareness of one's own weaknesses. (Because, if one were aware, one could change the behavior pattern.) The reader is guided toward identifying the one or two biggest personal shortcomings that are holding them back. These are the flaws no one else is likely to tell them about, unless they take the initiative to ask a trusted compatriot for that targeted, hard-to-hear feedback. The authors present an entertaining and compelling case: Go ahead and ask for it!

A fun and light hearted read about really irritating things everyone does in the office. You'll identify many quirky, frustrating, and downright infuriating habits belonging to your coworkers and more importantly yourself! Highly recommended. It will certainly make you laugh and hopefully make you think.

I enjoyed the straightforward approach. This book has insight, however for the already introspective this might not seem like new advice. This is would be a good review to make sure that you're not listed in any of these but categories. I love the way he states things with a nice humorous tone, like but slaps. He also uses popular tv and cultural examples so there is no doubt what he means.

Kiss Your BUT Good-Bye had some pretty insightful and practical tips to provide. However, it really did feel like an 8-year-old who learned a new word. So many "butt" puns. My goodness. It was a good way of keeping you engaged for what would otherwise be dry material. My eyes got a good workout from rolling so often.

Insightful, but it's mainly a lot of common sense stuff. It would be nice for management to read and reflect upon this, but I doubt they'd actually change. The book is very short and practically repeats itself all over again in the appendix area.

It was fun to read the thumbnail sketches of different BUTS and match them up with people around my office - until I matched my own! This is a great book. It got me thinking about getting ahead in my career without being a dull, heavy book. These guys know what they're talking about.

A quick read, mostly made up of examples to get you thinking about your own weaknesses. I'm glad I read this to get me thinking about where I need to make improvements, but there isn't a whole lot of depth here. Which is the point - the book is exactly what it promises to be.

Good thought provoking read. Common sense that is not always common. The length of the book was perfect.

I can't say that I learned anything new, but high marks for keeping me engaged all the way through despite that. I listened to the audio on this one, so the puns were especially punny.
