A dark romance between two unlikely male characters. The recent death of Tarro's wife was not only sudden, it was inconvenient. Being forced to mourn for a woman he never truly enjoyed, he accepts an offer for company that only ends up leading to more trouble. With a reputation for being able to ruin anything, he starts to wonder if he's ruining his new house guest, or perhaps himself.
This is a fantasy based gay romance novel intended only for adult enjoyment.
S. K. Hart is the worst person in the world. When she isn’t fighting the forces of good and thwarting plans to improve humanity, she enjoys watching horror movies and building tiny obnoxious things with tiny obnoxious parts. Her New England compound is guarded by a slobbery jump-monster disguised as a dog and a suspicious quantity of wooden giraffes.
As Overlord to two young, almost equally wicked minions, she has mastered the art of ‘sick burns’ and ‘finger guns.’ Her maniacal laughter can often be heard following allegations of mental torment inflicted upon small humans in the form of ‘homework’ and ‘chores.’ For seventeen years, her ongoing and unrepentant enjoyment of her spouse has sickened even the most wholesome of prudes.
Overlord Hart spends her days fantasizing about controversial things and the most entertaining ways to present them to others. She greatly enjoys sharing her written creations and has been known to take requests and challenges, sometimes against her will. If an idea is difficult enough, she attempts it.
Anyone looking to contact S. Kaeli Hart can find her on her blog, Facebook, or Goodreads, where she posts all updates on all current and future projects.
A beautiful widower in a matriarchy society fight for survival over an evul stepmother and a shady past. Very intriguing story. Only drawback is that the main character had a change of personality in the end and I didn't feel the submissive thing worked. It ended the story in discontent instead of triumph. Definitely recommended though.
Good fantasy reading, more than I have expected. Craziness of females, that looked more like behaviour of frustrated males, feels somehow exaggerated. On the other hand MC (male) behaved sometimes as a permanently hormonal female, but still, it could be exactly, as was intended by author. Attempt on darkness is only half success, so 3 out of 5.
Before I even read the first page of this novel it had two important things going for it. I secretly love m/m stories and I am a closet manga addict, so the very yaoi-ish cover attracted me immediately. I am thrilled to say that it lived up to my expectations, exceeded them even. I read 90% of it with a ridiculous silly grin on my face, teared up more than once, had to get myself a quick glass of ice water and return to it again and again (whew), then eventually had to admit that the whole thing made my heart hurt. Tarro's life isn't an easy one to face. It is definitely cringeworthy. But every painful, horrible thing that happens in this book is made up for in the wonderful character that is Nerin. *swoon* Yes, he and Tarro have turned me into a sad little fangirl.
The book is told in first person, from the POV of Tarro. I'm not generally a fan of first person narratives, in fact I kind of hate them. But I have to admit I enjoyed it here. Tarro had such a fantastically sarcastic and jaded tone/voice that it was a pleasure to read. I also liked his blatant honesty, especially about himself and his own proclivities.
I read a lot. I write a lot of reviews. But I rarely rave. I rarely give unadulterated praise. But I am officially declaring myself an S. Hart fan. If you enjoy yaoi or M/M romances (and honestly I would only recommend this if you do) this is one worth picking up.
This yaoi(m/m) novel was very good. In fact, reading m/m has been my secret for years, but this novel was so good, I deemed it necessary to write a review.
Tarro lives in a matriarchy. Tarro is a widower. He was 'trained' to be a devoted husband to his late wife. They never loved one another. Later on in the story, you find out the circumstances that surround her death. Everywhere but his house, he puts on the perfect act of an active mourner, though truth be told he is happy that his wife is gone. His late wife and his mother-in-law are very aggressive, manipulative, abusive women.
He feels like he is stuck in a prison. He also truly believes, because of his past, that he does not deserve to be loved or any real friends. Though, he finds out that is not the case.
One of his mother's colleagues has a son who is of 'marrying' age and asks Tarro for his assistance(since Tarro is seen as a perfect devotee, even after the death of his late wife).
In comes the 'boy' he would help assist to help find a wife, Nerin. Nerin tosses Tarro's life upside down. This dark romance, Nerin and Tarro help each other come to terms of not just themselves as an individual, but each other. There is smut involved this novel. I feel this has a good plot and it has a good ending, that I feel you won't feel disappointed in it.
The male lead knows how to dance his way through the wicked world of females who insist on everything is theirs. Not even my own words can summarize the smooth fluidity of the story from a widower who hates everything to sex, fighting, blood, and ulterior motives. I loved everything about the book from the characters to the intense interactions between them. I couldn't stop reading it. S. Hart is talented and deserves more acknowledgment! Do not let books pass you because you do not like the plot. Give it a try. If you like fantasy, it is perfect. If you like sexy characters, you will love it. S. Hart makes so many characters come to life you will love and hate, but I could relate to them all. Enjoy!!
I absolutely loved The Disassembled Life of Duncan Cole by this author, so I had very high hopes for this book. But sadly, I was disappointed. I just couldn't really get into the writing style and I couldn't really connect to the MC. On top of that, this was badly in need of a proper editor. The middle part was pretty good and I couldn't put it down, but the beginning and end just didn't work for me. So only 3 stars from me.
I really enjoyed this book, all of it,the plot, the protagonist, the atmosphere, because they are original, exciting, lovely. In this matriarchal society, men were destinated to be husbands. Tarro, the protagonist is widower of bad wife and son in law of crazy woman. His life is miserable till when to met Nesir , a young man who gives him the force to fight for himself and his sons. I have apreciated the description of complex personality of Tarro and the intelligent solution for his problems.
OMG! I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. I still can't decide if Nerin or Tarro is my favorite character, because they both had really qualities. I loved both of them. I can't pick just one thing that I liked about it, because I loved everything. It had me laughing so hard at some points and had me nearly crying towards the end of the book. This book was wonderful.
While reading I was very frustrated, because I never once saw the MC as male (except sex). In my mind I saw a woman bought from slavery and living with abusive husband and uber abusive father in law. I really tried, but everyone just...acted like another sex... and that kind of soured the book for me :I .
Frankly I'm surprised by how low some of the ratings were for this. I felt the characters were wonderful, the story very well-written, the plot intriguing... There were also PLENTY of hot scenes flawlessly mixed in. This was an enjoyable read throughout, and I hope to read more from the author.
