Brick City is a model builder's festival in book form. What lends special distinction to the models is the way they're constructed. Each is made entirely of LEGO bricks! Known for decades as a favorite children's toy, LEGO bricks have entered the adult model builder's repertoire in recent years. Author and model maker Warren Elsmore presents instructions for neophyte LEGO modelers plus plans for constructing specific buildings and landmarks, along with vivid photos of completed LEGO models. The models represent landmarks from all over the world, and include--
Really clever Lego book showing various icons from around the world (Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, White House, Arc de Triomphe) made from Lego. Includes two posters that pull out as well as building instructions for several of the projects in the book.
I thought that this book was detailed, and explained about how to build different structures of Lego. It also talked about the history of Lego. I learned a lot more about Lego just by reading a book.
Oh, the hours I spent making houses out of my cousins' legos. Given how much my husband likes them, I'm guessing my children would geek out over this books as much as I did.
What a fun book! This is THE Lego book for serious builders. The intro includes information on how to build to-scale, how to use CAD modeling to design your creations, and how to be a better free-styler. The projects pictured in the book range in level of difficulty with instructions for the easier, more doable builds and beautiful artistic images of projects that took hundreds of hours and hundreds of thousands of bricks. My favorite scene was from the London Olympics' opening ceremony, complete with a Lego interpretation of Queen Elizabeth and James Bond parachuting into the stadium! My eight-year old and I really enjoyed perusing the pages together, though we probably won't use the book. I appreciated that there were short histories of most of the buildings, which helped me to know where the real buildings were located and why each one is considered iconic. This would be a great gift for your favorite Lego fanatic!
WOW! It is true you can do so many incredible things with LEGOs, including building global icons, like the Roman Colosseum with gladiators or the Buckingham Palace with your own British royal family. This book Brick City will provide you with the know-how on how to do these things. One downside is that it doesn’t provide all of the pieces for you to build, but maybe you can borrow some from a friend or a neighbor and work together on a project or two or come to our very own LEGO club for kids in kindergarten and up. These creations will definitely impress almost anyone. This book is best for someone that is not a LEGO novice and is up for a challenge.
Ok my inner child has come out again and made a mess with the Lego. This book is fascinating - its a mixture of professional builds some of which are incredible and others where you are given guides and even instructions. The book is very new (I picked my copy up from a discount seller) as it makes reference to the Olympics. If you are a fan of Lego and love to see how creative some people can get and what you can achieve with no instructions just determination and patience then this book is for you. It really does prove Lego is no just for kids
Stunning architectural models of differing sizes, from tiny micro-builds to massive structures taller than an adult human, presented in beautifully framed photographs with solid information and insights from the builders. Wrapped up with two fold-out posters and dotted through with ste-by-step instructions for some of the simpler builds, this is an excellent guide for Lego fans, treating its subject as a worthwhile artform rather than the "yeah, it's dorky, but..." approach that many books of this sort favour. Beautiful builds beautifully presented.
Not so much of a book as it is an excellent reference for Lego builders. The book alternates between large-scale models built by professional Lego builders (with close-up pictures) and smaller-scale models of famous monuments with building instructions. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who's interested in Lego buildings.
PS I borrowed this from my local library but I'm buying my own copy within the next week or two. That's how much I liked it.
LEGO architecture je moje guilty pleasure a tahle kniha je něco pro mě, chtěla bych si umět všechny ty budovy a další blbovinky umět postavit, vím, že je to trochu mimózní, ale postavit si třeba pařížskou kavárnu z lega mi prostě přijde dobrý, a ten Taj Mahal - neuvěřitelný!
LOVED this book. Definitely I'll have to make a few of these models. My only complaint is that this is a global book, and I'd love to have a U.S. version with iconic American monuments, etc., to build, or directions for ALL of the models. :)
